I for the life of me cant figure out why my camera is completely dead! I have FULLY wiped all caches, everything under 'WIPE' via AMONS and even formatted my SD card as well as trying an alternate SD card(both 8GB--C6speed)--never had a problem w either card on ANY ROM...ALL OF A SUDDEN the past 2days my camera goes to a FULL BLACK SCREEN,when pressing the CAMERA icon. Occasionally the taskbar will remain uptop but will timeout when screen display shutsoff. Now if i launch CAMERA via DESIRE ROM(KING),ill get the notice about clicking trackball to resume camera but as soon as i click it,the message dissapears and the screen will go back to black screen again...and repeat. I SWEAR i have DONE MULTIPLE COMPLETE WIPES AND REFORMATS so im left to believe its THE HARDWARE itself! CAN ANYBODY PLEASE LEND ME A HAND IF the similar problemhas occured...On the Nandroid backups that ive restored from FULLY FUNCTIONING bkups,if i launch NEXUS TORCH it will say CANNOT ACCESS LED---this is THE ONLY info besides the "camera wake message"mentioned earlier that i can provide. Thanks in advance and pleas edont flame for NOT being in Q&A bc this is more of a DEV related restore question.
**oh and BTW--I DID TRY TO INSTALL the DESIRE R2 cam fix and does nothing. I tried it when all was working fine early in the week and it did nothing to help FLASH timing for me,so i NAN restored back to prior state and CAMERA continued working until about THURSDAY night--regardless--PHONE is in OUT OF BOX STATE--MINUS UNLOCKED and it STILL doesnt work!---PEACE and Happy Mothers Day to any Mothers out there in XDA world!

1. you may have a broken camera, try a stock rom
2. your caps lock button is definitely broken

1. i should have known you were from Philly and cant read--I TRIED STOCK ROM
2. CAPS is to put highlights on key terms so idiots dont read over the fact that I DID TRY STOCK ROM---see how that helps?
3. Thanks for your informative responses---any suggestions from CAPTAIN OBVIOUS how to get service on a ROOTED device without being charged full price on the phone?? Ahhh--thought not!--So i tried here to see if anyone else had similar situation. AGAIN-thanks for your help as well SERIAL TOON--geez
If it's a hardware failure they won't charge you.
I think it will help if you go through Google Cust service first...they will end up redirecting you to HTC repair. Provide all truthful information on your issue, proving that you have done some legitimate trouble shooting and they will realize that it is a hardware issue, not the ROM flashing or bootloader unlocking that caused the problem. Someone else on the xda forums had a rooted phone with bluetooth problem and was able to send to HTC for repair for free...with a 4 day turnaround!
Good luck!

I didnt intend to sound rude,im just a little pissed right now..I Only ask bc i already had an issue in January days after receipt of phone. Issue was solved by sending me a new battery bc other was causing random shutdowns (ive since forwarded this info to another XDAmember that had exact same issue and they give him replacement phone at 1st but issue continued to occur--i told him about my story after he posted his problem, he contacted them this weekend and confirmed with me today that a new battery was on the way..see my public IM's for info). Anyway, when i was dealing with the battery issue they said they would definately NOT be able to fix under warranty bc the phone is rooted and unlocked. I can attest to the few people on here that said theyve been successful in such cases, but either way,IVE ALREADY STATED that i tried the DESIRE R2 camera kernal to see if that helps,so im not going to be dishonest and tell them i havent tried anything other than custom roms. Again..positive suggestions or similar experiences with warranty info would be appreciated....trollers looking for a funny post or to degrade people can eat one!

Thanks JOSH, ill look into it tommorrow--as i stated tho--i feel im being dishonest for trying the DESIRE R2 cam and saying that they should cover it---uninformed people will assume THAT couldve caused it,even though i used phone afterwards for a few days w no side effects
Hey Milton, like others have mentioned in here might want to try flash back to stock and seeing if the problem persists. If it does then your looking at a hardware problem and you should contact HTC/google for repair.
Yea...i was thinking that from get go--(hardware prob). Im on cheesy STOCK ROM right now and have been for cpl hrs...but its obvious its gotta be hardware...NOW comes the crappy part of trying to explain it to HTC when attempting to get an RMA!--Yee Haa!
MOD PLEASE CLOSE OR DELETE---THANKS!

Okay,,,this is weird!!..My TORCH hadnt been working at all either, the whole time ive had the camera problem. Now ,the torch will work for ONE TURN ON, then if i launch CAMERA, the cam still doesnt work. i have to HOME and HOME only to get back to home screen..BACK ARROW does nothing except vibrate, indicating touch response. If i then re-launch TORCH, it doesnt work....!??SOMETHING is ODD--and im split whether its hardware- or some sorta SYSTEM file that stays stuck even after all STOCK FLASHES and everything!--again,reminder..the LED TORCH hadnt worked up until this point--unit has NEVER been dropped, slid out of pocket from 1foot high onto superthick carpet,so i doubt its a loose internal cable...Hmmm...

That seriously hurts my eyes to look at. Try using proper punctuation and grammar. It's very simple and still gets your point across.
As for your phone. Call Google which will probably have you call HTC. People have gotten their rooted devices fixed for free if it's a genuine hardware problem and nothing caused from the rooting process.

I was thinking the exact same thing, don't know where he must have learned how to type. Then you criticize people from Philly, or whatever its called somewhere, for not knowing how to read. I would say mirror that advice and learn how to type.. type properly.
Torch will work until camera app is used then it wont work again until i reboot. After reboot, torch will work ONLY on regular/lower setting. MAX brightness will not work. Toggle back to LOW setting and torch will work again. Im going to try what DOUG suggested bc that is the only thing i havent tried yet...but the way torch and camera are acting up and requiring reboots keeps me willing to try software tricks first...WHAT ties the TORCH's HI setting to the camera app adn yet keeps the LOW setting seperate!??..ill try the TORCH dev real quick for some insight on how the two work hand in hand. Thanks for anyone using their time to help instead of criticize. Sorry for mocking ones ability to read but i was quite [email protected] time bc i lost a major function on my phone. My apologies to all

I wasnt the one asking questions about something mentioned in the OP (uh oh i used caps--oh geesh-someones gonna be saaad now!)and numerous pages before. Im sorry i dont spend all my life on forums to know that only words approved for caps are indeed CAPITALIZED. Petty little boy-and by the way, i was trying to stress your good advice by typing your name in caps so people would credit you with the help-Sorry to have taken your precious time sir. Good day.
Hi,
I have recently purchased my HD2 and its been a couple of months now since I'm utilizing it. Barely exploring my phone features, it hangs 20 times in view of the following encountered predicaments :-
1) Receiving 2 simultaneous SMS
2) Receiving an MMS
3) Pressing on any of the keys on the phone whenever receiving an SMS
Well, the list goes on and on. So, in resolving this issue, SIS (Malaysia) had agreed to change a new phone for me. And so they did. Tested it on the spot and everything was working fine, but just after a few days later, the problem reoccur itself again. This time, the entire phone hangs up. No keys can be activated, neither the phone can be turned on.
Firstly, its a brand new phone, so this kinda problem should not arise. Secondly, its no doubt troublesome to flip the back cover and press the tiny red button to perform a soft reset. Why in the darn first place the soft reset button isn't placed outside ? (just liky my old TYTN II)
So I have read a couple of forums with regards to this matter and came upon two conclusions in the end. One, the Manila.exe is the main culprit towards the hanging of the device and two, the HTC Sense application program has a flaw in between. Well, there's a temporary workaround though (that is if you do not want to flip the back cover over and over again), which is to leave the phone idle for 48 hours, let the battery drain itself off and then recharge back the phone again.
48 hours is a long time to wait though, and as a professional worker in my line of work, I really do not have that much of an ample time to linger around waiting for it to run out of juice. I'm totally very much dissapointed with the purchasement of the HTC HD2 as not only the technicians at the SIS (Malaysia) could not get to reproduce my predicaments, they cant even get to solve the hanging issue which I'd reckon, that's what I've been spending most of my time on my new phone (rather than to explore what is has to offer)
Is there a work around to the HTC Sense / Manila.exe problem ? Other suggestions would be to turn off the HTC Sense, but you know what ? Turning off the HTC Sense will be something like buying an Aston and driving it at 40kpmh all the way till the south of France !!! The phone's interface will be dull, and not to mentioned, it will be more a less pictured like my old TYTN II
I do not really have such problems for the HTC TYTN II though, not even one hang moment. Please XDA developers / experts, I'm indeed begging for a solution in resolving this reoccuring problem that somehow not only it will tarnish the brand HTC, it will also loose faith of the end consumers in the market.
why don't you ask SIS to change the phone again?
Just want to say one thing ... "Stock ROM's Suck" , hate to be that blunt but the stock ROMs they put on this beautiful hardware just seem to be time bombs, waiting to explode when you get them home ...
Should flash that sucker!!
To dan138zig
Well, that was my last resort to them, in order to solve it once and for all. I've been travelling to SIS to and fro for 4 times and yet the problem is still left unresolved. They've even tested it in their environment and it works fine (for the 1st two visits). But somehow, they manage to simulate the issue and they replaced the chipboard.
Now, replacing the chipboard was to the previous original phone, though even after the replacement, it still didnt solve the problem. So ding dong here and there, and after several "consultations" with their higher level managment, they agreed to change a new phone for me, off the hook (not undergoing formal procedures, whereby I'll have to wait for another two weeks)
So, getting a brand new phone I'd reckon my miseries will be resolved, but then the hanging problem reoccur itself today again. It seems that the HTC Sense is the main culprit though, after reading a few forums off the Net. And for a "premanent" solution (that is if HTC does not come out with any ROM / fixes / enchancements), I've gotta turn off the HTC Sense feature.
Well, buying a phone that cost 2K plus had already put a large damage in my wallet, now having to face this consequences after the purchasement is a real icing on the cake. What do you think ? If you're in my shoes, what would you do ?

I totally couldnt agree with you more. In my view, they should just have throw the Win OS away and put in the Andriod version of it. Its always windows version mobile phones that are giving the most headache to me when it comes to utilizing it.

Have you tried getting a new SIM? Sounds like the problem only happens when its talking to the network, and as you've had 2 handsets, i'd give a SIM change a go.
On the plus side........... at least you get 48hrs battery life.......
Not much use though if your phone doesnt work I suppose.....

Well, my SIM's working perfectly fine though, it does not give me any form of problem with my old TYTN II neither with other HTC devices I've checked with a few friends of mine. I do really suspect its the Sense that's the real culprit in the hanging of the device. Just really hope that they clear up this predicament with a new release of the ROM

haha, forty eight hours of baterry life ? well, I wouldn't bet on it. Have tried using it extensively and even before it reaches sunset, the battery is out. And guess what ? It's a brand new battery.
The phone's terrific, but sadly, the battery isnt. Its just like you are viewing a beautiful girl from bottom up till the next and the next thing you know it, viewing her face just makes you wanna vomit over and over again
So that's how I could sum up the HD2 as a whole. Most comparison commentators out there did place the HD2 side by side with the IPhone 3Gs. Both eventually also will end up running out of juice in 48 hours when you're performing your day to day call basis

The HTC Support and Releases still does not solve the problem, mate. Its something that HTC R&D as well as the QA team needs to sit down and extensively test the entire device from bottoms up till all forms of problem is resolved thereafter.

hmm, well you did not get what I meant, but that is ok .. I meant the version of the roms suck .. I like WinMo, personally I think Android with is BigBrother Back door is just as bad as the Iphone ...
So basically i Started Installing roms for like 4 months now, i started the rooting process using this guy's "Mackster248" method, witch was the gfree shown here: youtube.com/watch?v=c4B4y0CQUDo[/url]. I never tried anything more complicated than this aside from installing the genius button with required the need to use button shortcut app.
I've tried a few roms like VU 1.29. and a Vdoubleshoot one witch i hated. I loved vu 1.29.0 but i felt something was missing, so i tried the DARKSIDE Runny v2.1.0 first but found out that the voice recognition in the genius did not work, so i updated to 2.2.0. witch did work with the easy genius fix....Sooo I Loved it & decided to stay with it for good regardless of the ffc issue. So after reinstalling all my apps again i noticed that my power button would not lock and turn off the screen, I thought it was the button cause i had a problem with it being hard and sticking, so on the lock screen i "pulled the battery" yes after now reading in some forums I'm seeing that's a Big NO NO!
After trying to power on i get a Black screen of death where the black light turns on when pressing on the home screen only when the charger is plugged in so yes i am aware that I'm bricked but my question is why? This also happened to my friends "UNROOTED" mytouch 4g, when he was downloading something from the market the froze on him so i pulled the battery out and upon rebooting it was stuck on a line of androids. When sent to HTC they said it was the emmc chip.
So a some questions i have are, 1: Do these phone brick regardless of rooted or not? 2nd: Is pulling the battery out really so dangerous? if so what to do in my 2 scenarios? After i realized my phone was bricked i was thinking i should of used clockward mod before turning it off, but would that had made a difference? Ohh well i already know that HTC repairs rooted phones based on whats been posted in these forums so I'm not worried and i have already my shipped my phone...hopefully it wont take too long to replace that eMMc. Thanks for reading me out!
Maybe change the title of your thread... Your phone was bricked because you installed the Rom...

1. I have yet to hear of a non-rooted phone bricking because of the bad eMMc chip, only after you root it does the chip start acting funny. could have been a possibility that you had the bad eMMc, did you check to see before taking the plunge and rooting your phone?(guessing not lol )
2. pulling the battery isnt as dangerous as everyone says it is. its only dangerous if you pull it while trying to flash the stock PD15IMG to return to stock, or during the phones booting process where its loading everything up. Ive pulled my battery plenty of times, but never in those situations.
Maybe hope
Out of curiosity are you able to get into the bootloader to run fastboot at all by holding down the power and the down volume on your phone? If so you could probably flash clockworkmod onto your phone again through fastboot and reflash a new rom.
If you're able to do this you could save your phone

DING DING DING we have ourselves a winner.
[OP] are you able to get into the bootloader or recovery?
I remember when I first started rooting my phone it would be titles like this that would scare me away form certain roms. Which is a good and bad thing. Although I would generalize the title a little. Like " dam i messed up installing a sense rom" this way it's a little more inviting to open minded people that want to help and less offending to people that put in time for tutorials and development

Wrong. To hear this (or actually, to see this), you only need to go to the eMMC thread in General section, and look at the poll. You'll see enough failed non-rooted "bad" eMMCs, and you'll also see some "good" eMMC chips fail, even non-rooted. If you were reading the forum for the last 1/2 year, you'd hear more than enough of stock phones dying with failed eMMC. You can just try searching and reading the threads.
Moreover, you're wrong about the dangers of battery pull too. The danger isn't only when you're writing to sensitive partitions. It's a bit complicated, but I'll try to explain:
When the power is turned off, it doesn't go out at once - it takes a bit of time, several microseconds, maybe less, maybe more, depends on the capacitance of the supply path. During that time the electronic circuits still act, but with gradually diminishing voltage.
Circuits are built to function reliably in certain voltage range. The thing is that under that range, they don't stop functioning immediately - there is a range where they still function, but unreliably. Signals can receive erroneous values that aren't determined by the logic.
During that unreliable functionality period, a sequence of signals might happen that will cause overwriting one of the system partitions in the eMMC - since the logic doesn't function reliably, it can happen. If the phone is currently writing to eMMC (which might easily happen - programs read and write data when they run), you only need a couple of bits to fail in the bus address and write protection mechanism. The probability is very low and there are protections against that, but still, they aren't 100%.
If it happens, the phone is dead.
To add to that, there could be physical effects on eMMC chip from uncontrolled voltage drop.
So, this is why there's a recommendation to avoid pulling the battery, and using it only when really necessary.

Wi-Fi Calling using Darkside Runny 2.2
Does anyone know how I can resolved my wifi calling issue using this ROM? I've tried about 10 ROMS on my MT4G, and found this to be the nicest. But when I'm on wifi, any calls I make or receive, the person on the other end says they can barely hear me. I can hear them just fine, but they can't. This is also true at multiple hotspots, ie. Starbucks, friends home, etc.
When I flash different ROM, this feature works just fine.

Hey Folks!
I finally managed to get the Cyanogenmod 7.2 and GAPPS installed on my SD card and I want to thank one and all for their assistance. It has been running pretty well for the past week, well enough that my grandkids have managed to get me started with the Angry Birds game. I gotta watch myself playing it cause the time goes by real quick like and chores get missed. I've been reading the posts here and the answers everyone gave me when I was having trouble with my Nook. A few things have happened and I have a couple of questions about a few other.
1. Most of the time the Nook boots into Cyanogenmod with no problems, but about one out of every 6 or so times it just hangs up on boot. It tells you it is starting but just stays there, when this happens it may happen two or threee time in a row, is this common? Is there a fix I can try?
2. There seems to be some applications for a phone on Cyanogenmod, can I remove these? Is there even a way to remove them? I just wanted to kind of clean things up a bit, should I even be attempting this?
3. What applications do you more experienced users feel are a necessity for a new user to have on the Nook? Are there any applications on the Nook that a noob really shouldn't mess around with? Is there any recommended reading about using android that anyone can recommend?
From the dust bowl that used to be known as the Missouri Ozarks,
GrampaBear
1. That only happens to me on my first boot after updating my ROM, and only since I installed to internal (emmc).
2. Yeah, there's a camera app too and several other useless things. No, you shouldn't get rid of it. Some apps and Google stuff won't run if you do.
3. I have found that Android Assistant is a good noob alternative to Titanium Backup. TiBu can really let you screw things up. Android Assistant isn't as powerful but it does let you back up your apps.
For a noob learning to use power apps I have found it is best to have a particular goal in mind. If you just go looking for things to fiddle with the thing you'll learn is how to reinstall your ROM and apps.
If you don't have a dropbox account, get one. It will make your life easier and give you a place to store backups.

What part are you from? My dad grew up in Kissee Mills and Forsythe. I have cousins in Branson.
Most apps are noob friendly by design... just don't mess around with overclocking/voltage tweaking apps such as nook tweaks and setcpu unless you know what you are doing. That's the only way I can think of of how someone could permanently brick their nook. ;P
Edit: Technically, you can get rid of the phone app by a process called freezing/blocking. You can do so with gemini app manager, BUT I wouldn't just freeze things willy-nilly. Some apps, like contact storage, are required for gapps to run; though I've successfully frozen the camera and phone app without any adverse side effects. To freeze, press the menu button, go to more, then click expert mode. Then navigate to the apps you want to freeze (camera and phone), hold your finger down on them, and it will bring up a menu with an option to freeze the app. If, for whatever reason in the future, want to have this app back, you can do so by navigating to the app in expert mode, hold for the menu and unfreeze it and the app will function as normal.
Edit 2: A fix you might want to try for the boot problem would be to wipe dalvik cache. If you are using clockwork mod recovery, boot into it through recovery mode, go to advanced, and select wipe dalvik cache. Then reboot and see if the problem is gone.
Edit 3. For apps you might want to install, here's a list of apps I use:
Dolphin Browser HD- Best internet browser imo, though you might want to disable dolphin sonar to prevent it from bothering you.
Poweramp/DoubleTwist + Air Sync: These are both music players. The difference between the two is that poweramp is more manual+cheaper and gives more input options while DoubleTwist is more automatic. I personally use Poweramp because it gives you the option to play flac lossless music files, but it requires you to manually copy music files to your sd card from your computer or download them from Google play. On the other hand, DoubleTwist is more expensive, but when paired with airsync, it gives you an option to install a program on to your computer that allows you to automatically sync wirelessly as well as plugged in. It also is compatible with iTunes.
Doubletwist Alarm: Best alarm I found. Simple to use, works, can calibrate to sleep cycles, etc.
B&N Nook App: For reading books from your nook library!
Battery Monitor Widget: Allows you to closely monitor your battery as well as see if your battery is drawing more power than the charger is inputting.
Swype Beta keyboard: A very fast keyboard that allows you to swipe between letters to input words. Also, free! Google it, it's not on the app store yet since its still in beta. The website will give you instructions on how to download. What I'm using right now to type this post!
HD widgets: Very nice aesthetically pleasing widgets that tell time, weather, etc.
That's all I can think of now but I might add more later.
Best of luck,

Hey! All!
Leapinlar, I'm a bit north of Kissee Mills, I'm northwest of Durbin, south of H highway in Wright county. I was born in St. Louis, but mostly raised in northern Missouri and southern Iowa. My father worked as a supervisor for the railroad and we moved quite a bit for his work. I bought my property here back in 1961. It was somewhat isolated and had been clear cut by loggers and was pretty barren. I spent 6 years replanting and cleaning it up and put in a small dam on my creek for a pond. Built my home, garage, barn, tool shed, and workshop from 63 to 69. This became our permanent residence in 65. We raised 3 boys and 2 girls here and spend a happy 46 years living here until my wife passed. Will probably move to the city when I hit 80 or so, starting to get a bit difficult takin care of the place.
irisclara and Hephaestus - Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try.

Nope! Just an ordinary two story farm house. It does have a wrap around front porch though and a big screened back porch. I was a regular reader of Mother Earth News back in the 70s and early 80s, guess that would make me a hippie in your reasoning. I just liked the neat projects and ideas they always had in it. Built a "Hobbit" house back in "76" for the kids and as a place for guests during hunting season. It was domed shaped but it was earth sheltered instead of out on the open; just an experiment to see if I could do it and make it work. Also built my wife a little "elf" cabin in 1987 I suspended on two - inch and a half cables over a stream that runs from a spring on the farm. It was a get away place where she could relax and write her poetry and paint. She was an extremely good artist really, especially for a farm girl with no proper training. She sold quite a few paintings at art events around Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas.Put quite a bit of money into her savings for the kids schooling. I was, I am really proud of her. I built the cabin for her after her first bout with cancer. A heavy wind storm last summer blew an old Ash tree down on it, and crushed the cabin, but the support cables still held even after 24 years.
Well, l need to stop about this, not the place for it. This is about hacking Nooks and makin them work. Sorry to get off track folks.

DizzyDen, Thank you for your offer. May have to take you up on it some time. I'm really trying hard to muddle through this and learn it. Keeps the old brain workin and I enjoy lickin a problem. Hardest part is finding out what folks are talking about sometimes with caches and such. I kinda like to know what something does and why it does it before I mess it up.
I do have another question about power usage. I've noticed that I can power down the Nook after using it and I'm assuming that it should be totally off, but I've noticed that the battery can read half full when I shut down but later ( 8 or 10 hours) when I try to turn it back on it will be dead. I then have to recharge it to use it again. I understand or maybe misunderstand that the battery will only take so many charge cycles and I dont want to run through those cycles willy nilly since the battery isn't user replaceable and it would leave my Nook a paper weight. How do I find out what is using the power when the Nook is supposedly off? I've done some searching through settings and don't see or I'm missing seeing the setting I need to stop this.
Also how do I shut down the Sonar in Dolphin? It's a royal pain and I don't want to install google voice. Hepheastus_ said it could be disabled but I don't see a setting to do so. Being old as dirt and half blind I'm probably not seeing the setting.
GPB... one thing to note... just pressing the power button only shuts the screen down... to truly power it off... hold the power button in for several seconds... you can select power off from the menu that comes up... or simply keep holding it in and the nook will truly power off.
Can't help with the dolphin sonar question... haven't used dolphin in a while... but can re-install it if you don't get it figured out.
DizzyDen, I shut the Nook all the way down with the menu. I put a full charge on it last night and shut it all the way down at 10 pm. I turned it on this morning at 7 am and checked the battery icon and it shows about 2/3 discharged. Don't know what would be causing the battery drain or if the battery drain is only in Cyanogenmod. I am going to pull the SD card out, charge the battery up and then shut it down in the regular Nook andriod. I will let it set for 9 hours and then check it to see if the battery is down. This way I figure I will find out if it is a general problem with my Nook or if it is Cyanogenmod generated.
I'm feeling a bit foolish at the moment. I just discovered that the Q & A forum wasn't the only one with folks asking questions about the Nook. There are a couple of others that I completely bypassed. The old brain sure has been asleep on that.
I don't know how some of this stuff happens. A couple of months ago a user was complaining that even though he completely powered everything off via the menu and the charging cable was disconnected, it would wake itself up in the middle of the night. I would not think that was possible, but he swore it was happening. Maybe there is some circuit inside the nook that stays on even though it is supposed to be off. I don't know how one tests for that.
GB, experiment for us. Instead of shutting down with the menu, hard power off and see if that makes a difference. Hard powering off is holding the power button for a long time until the screen goes black.

As both an suggestion to your OP #3 question and the power use issue, I found that it's pretty easy to get confused as to whether the Nook has entered "deep sleep", i.e. you press the power button and the screen animates into a single white line and goes black, or it actually shuts down. I use these apps to both preserve the mechanical integrity of the hardware button and to make sure I get what I want.
Quick Shutdown (Just shuts down)
or this
Quick Boot (Gives you configurable shutdown/reboot options).
leapinlar,
I charged up the Nook to make sure the battery had a full charge. I powered up Cyanogen and gave it a bit for everything to settle down, I then did a hard shutdown as you said. I powered on the Nook this morning after letting it sit for 10 hours and it still has a full charge on the battery. Does this indicate something isn't turning off or all of the way off during a normal shutdown?
GB, for some reason your software is not really turning it off. I recommend getting one of those software apps like the ones shumash recommended above. I personally use Nook Color Power Button Donate by Otis. There is a free version, but it only puts it to sleep. The donate version (I think it was 99¢) lets you configure several things, including making full power off the default. Like shumash said, it saves wear and tear on your physical button and works very quickly with one tap. And it was made specifically for the Color.
Another thing, something is running in the background while it is sleeping. I suspect it is you leaving the wifi on during sleep. Most people don't need that. Go to settings, wireless, wifi settings, then hit menu for advanced. There is a setting to configure how wifi behaves with sleep. Set it to 'when screen turns off'. This makes wifi sleep when the rest of the system is sleeping. That should reduce battery consumption when sleeping.
Will give the wireless setting a try tonight. I'm probably going to have to put my Nook up for a bit. Summer veggies are ready for harvest and I'm getting a mite behind. Thank you all for your help.
Haven't had a chance to try anything else with the Nook; my almost 15 year old ( in Oct. ) grandson has sort of hijacked my Nook. He's down here to help me for a bit and the second the work is done and he's cleaned up he grabs the Nook and is on Angry Birds. Guess grandpa's not as interesting and fun as he once was. May trade some produce and meat for a Nook Tablet for him so I can get my Nook Color back.
Is there an age limit for members here on the forum? My grandson has been reading the forum and has become somewhat attached to my Nook. He's already made his own Cyanomod 7 SD card and is using it in the Nook. He makes it do more wiz bang things than I was able. He's almost 15 and pretty doggone smart and has questions about CM7. Can he post them here with an account of his own? He's going to be heading back home to Colorado soon and looks like he will have the Nook with him.
Stupid thing is that I can do everything to it aside from getting it to boot all the way to work! I tried reflashing OEM roms and I tried custom roms. They all work just fine and it just won't boot all the way. I can turn it on and off, use format option, download mode and magldr. I keep my sim out and memory card. Before this all happened I always used OEM OS. Last thing I did was check my bank account, close the browser and click the power button to turn it into sleep mode. Few weeks ago I did have an issue with it for a day. It kept turning on and off constantly boot to random points. Mostly to the AT&T screen. It would boot all the way rarely and I got it to stay on a couple times for about 10 mins to copy all my stuff from it. Is it possibly something to do with the hardware being a POS and Just crapping out for no reason because cell phones are poorly made expensive bricks?
I've seen this issue across the forum several times. Unfortunately, just one case seemed to "return" to life, without understanding the reasons behind the "lapse".
What I can suggest you can do (and feel free to disagree) is get in touch with Cottula (creator of MAGLDR) and see if you can help you. You can send him the phone, maybe he can analyze it and get something out of it.
GL, mate, and if you find a solution, I'm sure other folks here would be glad to hear it.
Ahhh ok thats what I figured. I browsed a bit, but most of what I saw is people couldn't do anything. I didn't see anyone saying they could do as much as what I can do with it. I'll try your advice and see if maybe he could help. I took apart the phone to see if maybe someone came loose, though I saw nothing. Clean as a whistle. What I think maybe happen is it burnt up finally. I notice at times it would run extremely hot, mostly when I'm talking on it for more then an hour.
Well, for your sake I hope it's not burned out (hardware issue). I hope it has some software component that's screwed and that has a chance of being investigated and maybe fixed.
Also, the getting hot while talking/browsing for periods more than 30 min it's a known issue. It's however supposed to be quite warm, but not actually really hot, if you know what I mean. It it however possible that exposing the phone to higher temperatures to cause hardware issues.
In any case, I wish you good luck. Who knows?
I gave AT&T a call to see what they could do. The software warranty is 6 months past and she wasn't able to override anything that much passed over. Though I was able to get my 2 years wavered and get a early upgrade. So I got myself a Xperia Ion. I'm happy I don't have to put up with a flip phone for another 4 months. lol
I tried working on my focus a bit more playing with zune and other programs I found. Though I don't see it coming back to life trying all the different ROMs. I would think to make it work again is to re-flash the actual phone bios itself. Just like a computer starting it still uses DOS then loads the OS. I don't know how a phone works to much, but I'd assume same process. Something to do with the root-root of the phone telling it to be stupid and not boot properly.
Another note, where is the best place to sell this to get some money out of it? Screen and other pieces of its hardware are 100%. Should I try ebaying it?
I had a similar issue, last thing i did was removing the SD card before re-flashing the MGLDR and custom ROM
