I tried to download OsmAnd open maps and somehow my Android 2.1 is stuck in some kind of endless downloading cycle. I get the message that AsmAnd and OsmAmd and 98 more......... and I see the green animated bar. When I try to cancel or stop download service, it just re-activates and adds more downloads. I now have 101 items downloading according to my ntification icon at the top and have no way to shut it down that I can find. I cannot even download an app to back my phone up to save my paid for applications without it getting added an another download.
Please help if you can!! I have tried dissabling the download service, pulling the battery, sym, and memcard. I have even uninstalled all free apps that might be updating. I have switched between 3g and wifi and waited a day for downloads to finish, but no luck. My time is not being burned up so it does not seem to be receiving any data... just and endless download message.
Thanks in advance to any help you can give.
a little more info
If I go into setting/running applications, I can see my download service is stuck in restarting mode. I can end it, but it comes back in same mode and never runs. Process Android.process.media. Does anyone know hor to reset this service?
Have you tried rebooting?

I found this on another board. It seems to have solved the problem
The problem is solved. Need to CLEAR DATA of the Download Manager application.
For a step-by-step solution,
1. Goto Settings -> Manage applications (At the Home Screen press the menu button, the one with four squares and click Settings)
2. By default it will show only downloaded apps, So to list them all Press menu key and select Filter
3. In Select filter options, select All.
4. In the big wierd-named list, click on Download Manager.
5. In the Application Info page of Download Mgr, under Storage, click on the Clear data button
That will stop the download. Thank you uliwoo for pointing me in the right direction. Enjoy!!

I only have one app in my market, it is download-able but none the less its the only thing there. any idears?
Any ideas folks?
So you started doing the Manualnooter 4.5.2 for 1.2
Just continue one with the rest of the steps. Reading further down on the Step-by-step guide you get these instructions.
Market has limited visibility - This is a known tablet issue, not just a NOOKcolor one.

3) Leave the Android Market program running & tap the Home button to go to the desktop.
Replaces 4-6 = Nook Color Tools => All Settings => Manage Applications
4) Tap the Menu button, then select the Settings option in the bottom bar that pops up.
5) Select the Applications option
6) Select the Manage applications option
7) Select the Running TAB to show all running applications.
8) Scroll down the list until you see Market, then select it.
9) Tap on the Clear cache option button
10) Tap on the Force stop option button. DO NOT tap on the Clear data button here under Market, it will break the process I believe!
11) Tap on the Back button to go back to the entire list of running apps.
12) Scroll the app list up until you see the Google Services Framework app & select it.
13) Tap on the Clear data button here first, then tap on the OK button to confirm the action.
13) Tap on the Force close button now.
14) Now tap on the Back button or use the Home button to go back to the main desktop screen.
15) If you have the Market app on your desktop, then tap on it to run it, or open the dockbar applet panel & run Market from there again.
16) You should get an error box that has "Attention", then states that "An error has occurred. Please try again later."
This is good & what seems should happen if all is going well.
17) Now just hold down the On\Off button & then use the shut down menus to shut down the device normally.
18) Now just turn the device back On normally, let it boot to the desktop ... when you get a working Wifi connection, try Market again ... hopefully if all went as it did for me many times, Market should work fully now & show apps that used to be missing!
Thanks, your awesome!

So I followed the instructions to go from ParanoidAndroid to Stock, and I chose to stock to 4.4... now I'm having issues.. strange ones.
1) The Home Key doesn't do anything.
2) The lockscreen is non-existent
3) When I press and hold the power button, all I get is "Power Off".. no other options.
4) I don't get notifications, and when I pull down the notifications menu, none of the functions work (User settings, Date & Time, etc.)
5) If I use the "stock launcher", I continuously get "Launcher has crashed" error, never goes away.
Any help with any of this? I've been trying to fix it for hours.
Thanks in advance, guys..

Make sure it is connected as MTP. Try uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I had a hard time finding the drivers before as I am using 64bit win7. Drivers I found before had some troubles as it was not signed..so I can't use in on 64bit os. If all else fails..use airdroid to transfer your files. Good luck.

Same issues here. I flashed it via fastboot. Used the "flash-all.bat" script, but took out the "-w" option so it wouldn't wipe my data.
I'm having the exact same issues but going from stock 4.3 to 4.4 ota when the notification showed up saying I was good to go. Never been rooted at all.
My opinion on this update
well my opinion on this update is that it seems as though it was rushed and for some reason they didnt include the google experience launcher... like why would you announce and then not release

Google have never announced the Google launcher.
Google have never said they will release the launcher for devices other than the Nexus 5.
Google have never called it Google Experience Launcher.
It doesn't take any effort to make it work on the N4.
Update
Here's an update: One other issue I had was my phone would not work if someone called me. I could call out, but calls to my phone went to voicemail. I decided to put Android 4.3 back on...but then the thing got stuck at the Nexus X screen. I flashed a couple of times, but nothing. The one thing I didn't want to do was lose my data...just a pain. One thing I did while dealing with the 4.4 issues, was copy over my data.
I had to end up re-flashing everything losing my data. I basically used option "D" from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34552123&postcount=1
I would think there is a way to fix the 4.4 problems, however, not having my phone work really wasn't an option. I could deal with the home button, notifications, etc...
Oh...about 10 minutes after I was finally back in 4.3, I get a notification that 4.4 was downloading. A bit later I was able to install using the OTA and it worked! Now I'm on 4.4. I haven't rooted it, and I'm pretty sure I've lost CWM, but after spending 3 hours or so dealing with this...even getting the "red" light at one point, I think I'll call it a day. Just thought I'd update for others.

Im having the exact same issue but I installed the official OTA update. Will probably try flashing like you did. Haven't seen this issue posted anywhere else.
Over the air update also gave same symptoms (and a couple more)
Dear All,
I got the update pushed over the air automatically and clicked to update thinking all was going to be fine
I am having all the symptoms listed, and I can add 2 more for the sake of completeness (and to highlight the annoyance):
1-When clicking on links from Google Now results or any app other than Chrome (I do not have other browsers installed), Chrome gets launched (or switched to), but it reloads the last open tab instead of loading the link.
2-The double finger down swipe to access the profile is not working (and I did not find a way to access it, since clicking on the little profile icon in the empty notification screen I get with the single finger swipe down, also does not work, it does not even click).
For some reason, until I rebooted Email did not work (it kept sitting in "checking" the inbox, but was not able to get messages).
Really bummed that this happened with an updated pushed by Google on my Nexus4. Will try to follow recipes to back-up my data.
I am new to forum/android: is there a direct way to submit feedback to Google team? Does it make sense to try to do so? It would be nice to know what caused the problem and I'd be happy to send debugging input for them.
I guess next time I'll wait on the fence a bit before updating the operating system.
Thanks,
Gabriele
Maybe you guys need to do factory reset after the update. I know it's quite a hassle as all your data will be gone. Just backup whatever things you need and reset it.
Clean install here. Never had any issues and kitkat works great even on dalvik.

Google support solution
Dear arffrhn and all,
I finally managed, after a lot of frustration to talk with Google support (had to go through Google Play Help center, and pursue "apps" help to get to click on a "Call us" button, and they called me to a landline in Europe within 15 seconds).
Once I got transferred to hardware support, Eveline mention how she believed the issue was with some "glitch" during the update... she told me that in many cases a cache partition clear would be enough, but if that did not work, a factory reset should do it.
She guided me through the first process:
Clear cache partition.
1. Hold power button for 2 seconds and select 'Power Off'
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time for about 10 seconds.
3. An image of an Android lying on its back will appear.
4. Press the Volume Down key twice until "Recovery mode" appears on the screen.
5. Press the Power key to restart in "Recovery mode."
6. An image of an Android with a red triangle will appear.
7. While holding down the Power key, tap the Volume Up key.
8. The Android System Recovery screen will appear. Release all keys.
9. Use the Volume keys to scroll to wipe data cache partition and press the Power key to select.
10. The phone will restart.

Unfortunately this was not enough to fix my problem... still same symptoms.
So she offered to help me back-up my data, I had already used AirDroid to back up all the files, apps, pics, videos etc so I preferred to stay on the line and proceed with the factory reset in case that would not work.
Here are the steps:
Factory data reset.
Please note that performing a factory data reset on your device will return your phone or tablet to its original state. I'd recommend backing up and saving any photos, videos, music, or other items you might have stored on your device's local memory. If you have a device with an SD card (for instance, a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition), your media content (photos, music, etc.) stored there will not be deleted.
To perform a factory reset:
Go to Settings > Backup & reset.
- Press Factory data reset
- Press Reset
After you perform the factory reset, you'll need to sign into your device with the same primary Google account you were using before in order to sync your purchased apps and other content.
If you're unable to get to your Settings menu, follow the steps below:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished, select 'Reboot system now.'

I was able to access my Settings menu, so I did not need to follow all the steps, but just do the data/factory reset.
The phone came back up asking usual personalization questions, and it all was fixed... now I have to spend a few hours getting back my apps, data, settings, etc... but my problem was solved without having to re-flash or anything like that.
I filed a feedback about the abysmal situation of the Google Play help center and asked the two support people I spoke with to raise the issue internally... when I selected the natural line of help (device, technical support) after a couple of screens I got to a blank "Select device" screen that was a dead end. I had to go though apps support that only offered phone support... but in the end it worked.
Hope sharing this will help others! Not sure whether I should peek into the Google Experience Laucher eventually... back to work for now!
Cheers,
Gabriele
PS
The steps quoted above were sent by Eveline after our conversation was over, in case I needed to use them again. She mentioned that if I were to have more problems they could look into a potential hardware failure of my almost our of warranty Nexus 4.

Glad to see it works.
This method requires a way to turn your Wifi on and off. I used a Mobile Hotspot from another phone for ease of use.
Begin by setting up the phone. Connect to Wifi when asked.
Agree to the terms and conditions. When it says "Checking Connection" (A few seconds after hitting Accept), disable your WiFi from the source (The hotspot, or unplug your router). If done at the right time, it will tell you 'Could not connect'. If it says anything else, back up, reconnect to WiFi, and try again. The timing isn't difficult. Hit next. Turn your WiFi Hotspot back on (The power), and make sure your phone reconnects automatically.
It should ask for date and time. Skip ahead until you get to the Privacy Policy screen with 3 check boxes (You have to scroll down to see them all). Click on the 'Privacy Policy' link. Scroll down to the block of text. Click and hold on any word. Click Share. CLICK AND HOLD on the button that pops up. Click Force Stop. Pull down the settings menu and scroll over to 'Ultra Power Saving Mode'. Turn it on. Select your language.
Click More, Click settings. WiFi will have been switched off; switch it back on from this menu. Back out and go to Internet. Go to https:// goo . gl/vzoLBx (Won't let me post links, so remove the spaces) and download the file (Quickshortcutmaker).
Exit the Internet. Click More. Click disable Ultra Power Saving. Click 'Emergency Call'. Dial 112. Wait for it to connect. Scroll to the right and select Internet. Search for 'Samsung Galaxy Apps'. Click the first link. Scroll down slightly, in the banner it will say 'Samsung galaxy Apps' and have an icon next to it. Click the icon. This will open the App. Search for 'Maxi Explorer'. Install it. This will require registering with Samsung, create an account if you don't have one.
Once installed, click the 'Play' icon next to Maxi Explorer. Find the file you downloaded (Should either be in 'Storage/Emulated/Download' or 'sdcard/download'). The file will be 'com.sika524.android.quickshortcut'. View, Settings, Turn Unknown Sources on, click OK, Click Open.
Once Opened, search for 'Google Account Manager' Click the drop down arrow next to it. Find the FIRST 'Type Email and Password', click on it. Click 'Try'. On the upper right, hit the 3 dots and select browser. Login with YOUR gmail account. Once you're back at the menu with 'Try', restart your phone.
From here, you should be able to go through the normal process without any issues. Hope this helped, I can provide more information or screenshots later.
Hi everyone,
I know this is quite old but while trying to get past FRP on a Mate 8 I bought recently I ran into a few issues that I thought I would share.
I followed a couple of guides to no avail, I found the information contained within this one to be the most helpful.
The first issue I ran into was not having access to the Assist option on input fields, the options I had were Cut, Copy and Share.
After clicking Share I was given a limited menu of installed applications, but included in the list was Gmail. This opened the app and allowed me to sign into an account (not a Google account though so it had to be Yahoo) I emailed myself a link to Google and was able to open Chrome.
On a side note another way to do this is using the Notes function from the Emergency Call screen. Not recommended obviously.
I used the guide above to download the APKs needed but Chrome didn't allow me access to launch the APKs.
This is where I became stuck for a long time! I tried so much stuff to be able to install those APKs, i tried using file:///sdcard/ but Chrome just tried to download them again.
After much fiddling and cycling through all Share option apps I was back in Gmail, this is where I struck gold. While in Gmail if you go into the account settings you can press the 3dot menu in the upper right corner and choose the option Manage Accounts. This will take you to the full settings menu albeit with some limitations (can't enable Developer Options)
From here it's pretty plain sailing, go down to Advanced Options then into Memory & Storage. Use Storage Cleaner, this will let you either click Storage in the top left or once the scan has finished the option Store Manager will appear at the bottom. This screen gives you two circles that represents Phone storage (left) and Micro SD (right) pressing either circle will take you into File Manager and allow you to install the APKs and you can follow the guide linked above from Step 5 to get around FRP
I hope this helps someone out there.
Step-by-Step
1. Boot phone and get to FRP Gmail input screen.
2. Input any text and Long Hold for options
3. Choose Share and share with Gmail
4. Sign into a Yahoo account and email yourself a link
5. Click link to open Chrome and download APKs from here
6. Use long hold share menu to get back to Gmail
7. Tap 3Line menu on top left, choose Settings
8. 3Dot menu on top right, choose Manage Accounts
9. Advanced Settings then choose Memory & Storage
10. Storage Cleaner then either top left for Storage or bottom for Store Manager
11. Press either of the storage circles, this will open File Manager, navigate to downloaded APKs and install them.
12. Follow THIS GUIDE from Step 5
13. Relax after the longest step by step guide ever???
Hey guys, I will try to find include as much info as I can. I have Google play loaded on the device. I tried to uninstall an app and the icon remained, trying to uninstall it again gives me a pop-up about the app files do not exsist. Ever since then if i install an app from either the play store or the Amazon app store they will not show up on the main screen. The apps are there and I can remove them via settings. I have tried a hard reset as well as reinstalling the initial app that caused the problem. When I do that the app icon works again but no new apps show up still. If I uninstall it again it does the same thing as the first time, the icon stays.
I was hoping there was something running in the background i can clear the data for or something to fix this. I do not know enough about it to tinker around with it. I have some stuff downloaded from Google play that i cannot backup. A factory reset will lose the data on those accounts so I am trying to avoid it.
If you have any suggestions I will gladly try them, thank you in advance for your help
Mine is doing the same today, I've uninstalled it but the icon remains on the screen. I've also tried others that I've installed from Google play, all behave the same.
Are new apps that you install showing up? I cannot get any new app to appear.
