[Q] is my phone fudged? - HD2 General

I think my phone might be fudged. I have been running android fine for the last few weeks until it crashed, I removed the battery to reset but the phone wouldn’t turn back on. However I could boot to the tri-color screen so I tried putting windows 6.5 back on the phone, the installation finished but the phone still wouldn’t boot the OS. I can still get the tri-color screen and have tried re-installing the radio/magdlr but they stick on 0%. Also my battery at best probably has 20-30% of juice left (it won’t charge either).
Anyone know what the cause of the problem is and if there is a way it can be fixed?
thanks in advance!

Try doing a Task29 then flash a compatible Radio then flash MAGLDR.. and lets see what happens

You will need to charge your battery. If it dies during a flash then you will have an even bigger problem to sort out.
If its less than 50% this is probably why its sticking at 0%.
Is your HSPL still intact and which radio are you using?

lower than 50% doesn't really matter from the bootloader, only RUU.
It sounds like hardware problem, or something fishy going on in NAND, I'd do task29 followed by ROM/Radio

thanks for the responses. I still have hspl, I manged to successfully install task 29 after that I tried flashing a windows 6.5 rom, once again phone won't start up after 100% all i can do is get to the 4 colored screen.
is there anything else I can try? considering my battery must be really low and I have no way of charging it.

If you got 100% when you flashed the Windows Mobile ROM and your HD2 rebooted itself, then you sucessfuly flashed the ROM.
Did it boot up to the bootloader or the first splash screen (Stick Together or white HTC screen depending on which HD2 you have)?
If it booted to the first splashscreen it could be the processor having troubles or possible bad blocked incthe NAND memory.
If it boots straight to bootloader then you have a bad NAND memory.

It doesn't reboot to either screen, it simply turns off after the rom is finished installing and doesn't start back up again. The only thing I can do is press volume down and red button to boot the 4 colored screen. When I press the power button all that happens is the phone sometimes makes a tiny vibration.

Yeah sounds like you probably have a internal problem with hardware. But it might could because software related issue, but I highly doubt it. The only software problem you could have that I can think of is a problem with your SPL or HSPL which ever one you have, but you should have HSPL cause you where running Android.

If you are asking if a currupt splash screen could cause your issue, I would have to say it could be possible, but I do not know enough to say for sure, sorry. You can put this to a test though and flash another splash screen, but the ROM should have flashed a splash screen. Maybe the splash screen it flashed was currupted or had a bad flash. Go to this link to get a splash screen and learn how to flash one.

I've said this a lot in other threads, but create a gold card SD. This will allow you to flash ALL the necessary components from the SD card. Then report back with your experience...

T-Mobile Not Booting to windows

Hello Masters,
I have a T-mobile unit and it seems its not booting into windows but sometimes it does. I had to remove the battery every now and then.
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.09 HSPL 8G
I'm not sure what caused this. I installed the Energy ROM and the TMOUS version. It started when i felt the phone was hanging up. The camera was even slowing down at first then goes back to normal. Has anyone ever experienced this?
thanks.. hoping to get some advice
Task 29 and reinstall everything. It might be not loaded on their properly. Search for task 29.

I'm not sure if we have the same problem but does yours get stuck on the "Stick Together" screen also? Because that's been happening to me for the past week and it's really starting to frustrate me to the verge of tears. I have to do more than 10 battery pulls almost every day.
i'm having the same issue, only ive got to do several battery pulls just to get the thing to start once. after its up and running it works fine unless i plug it in to charge or usb to try to add something to the card then the thing just freezes and im back to the battery game

+1, all of you should try rebooting without the SD card in the phone.
Before you (re)flash a rom though, check your battery pins too, to make sure none of them are bent.

[Q] Screen digitizer failed trying to revert to stock

First off I did search until I went blue. I'm having the digitizer failure problem with my HD2 which has HSPL3 and a stripped down winmo 6.5 rom. I Have been running android from the SD card.
The main problem is the phone is stuck in "boot as disk" mode when plugged into my USB port and I can't use the screen to put it in "active sync" mode. Is there another way around this so I can put the stock SPL and rom on? I know I must be missing something easy.
Boot in bootloader: power off, and then after powering back on keep the volume down button pressed. You can flash stock WinMo from there.

Thanks! This is really strange though. The screen is now responding after not working at all for two weeks. Any chance somthing was stuck under the volume button and around the screen?
I doubt it. There's being quite some doubt about these digitizer failures though, whether they are really hardware problems or just software. I have always been a believer of the first, but recent stories have made me doubt that. It's probably a mixture of both, so if at some point the digitizer stops working again in WinMo, get it fixed while you're still under warranty.
ok, I still plan on sending back in. I bought it 6 months ago, found a winmo and android roms that worked and never messed with it again.
So I'm guessing I just flash the stock rom it came with from the SD card then take off HPSL?
I'm actually not sure how to completely remove all XDA-traces, but I bet there's plenty of guides on that in the WinMo section!
Thanks again. Right when my digitizer went out it seemed like 5 more OS options opened up Win phone 7, boot straight into android etc.
I got the phone into active sync while the screen worked for about 2 seconds. Everything should be cake from here.
Thanks for your help.

Stuck in Splash Screen

My frigin HD2 keeps freezing on me on the splash screen. How do I fix this? I'm running windows 6.5 and I can't seem to get past the splash screen. It's mocking me. Someone please help before I smash this thing.
flashed anything recently? do you get RGD info, small red txt, bottom left on splashscreen?
This is my fathers phone and I haven't flashed anything for him since I flashed the energy rom stable version. I get to the small red text and then it freezes and nothing happens.
try the factory reset, switch off - press the up and down volume keys together and hold them in - press the power button release the buttons when you get the white screen read and follow the instructions

Thank you for the advice. I've tried this and I still get stuck with the opening splash screen. Anyone else?
Try booting the HD2 without te sim card or the SD card in, bit do it ome at a time so you can see of the sim card of SD card might be giving you a problem.
If no joy with that option, then put the HD2 in a sealable plastic bag and then in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes then try to bootx it. If it boots then the device is more than likely experiencing hardware problems. So if the HD2 is still umder warranty flash the stock ROM and SPL back to the HD2 and send it in for repair or ecxhange.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, it seemed to be a hardware problem. I sent it back to HTC and they repaired it for a small fee. Now I seem to be having problem with it reading sim cards so I'm not really too sure whats going on with that.

kutos for not starting a new thread! (btw what you describe for your android is called nand.)
my suggestion: start over. flash back to WM, then reinstall android on nand. takes ~15 minutes and will give you a clean start. otherwise, who knows what happened. or at the mininum, reflash your rom. or flash a new rom. but i like the WM option as you can see if is hardware or software as the culprit.
however, reboots can also be to bent battery pins.

Tried and checked that battery pins too! But actually it was the hard reset that baffles me. It takes like a second only, and it restarts. But when it do restarts it is like i did not do a hard reset. I like the advise you gave me, but the problem is i only had this phone for a little than 2 weeks. I cant even flash this coz it is stuck on bootscreen, I cant follow even tutorials on you tube coz it doesn't show that it was messed up like mine before they started flashing it. It's like a "Where do i begin Love Story song lol!!
I tried to contact the person who sold me this phone at ebay but he wont respond.
So what choices do i have here, i dont know how to flash with the current situation of my phone. Am even thinking of mailing this to anyone and giving me a dual boot then and just freakin pay and spend more over this phone. I dont have a choice.....
Any more suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.
hard reset ,nothin changed
i think we are talking about a couple of different things here (maybe).
when i say hard reset i mean - boot into bootloader (3 colored screen) - reboot holding volume key down - and via usb or sdcard flash back to windows mobile. have you done that? can you get to bootloader?
sucks you're having issues...
Yeah i can go to the 3 colored screen. That is actually the first i see before the "white screen"... can you teach me how to do that kind of hard reset??
I dont have WinMo anymore... the guy that sold me this phone put Android as the main OS.

doing a hard reset when magldr/android is installed is pointless, because it doesnt reset anything, (or i think ive seen it said that it hard resets magldr, the effect is the same, , , nothing happens) which is why it only took a few seconds.

@ the op, since you didn't put the rom on your phone, i would flash back to stock (aka back to windows mobile) and get rid of android. then put back android. see what happens.
read this thread, #5 to be exact to get back to windows mobile:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
this will get rid of android, save your hspl which will make putting android back on easy. however, if the problem exists in wm, is out of my knowledge, and is not seemingly software and more likely hardware. but if samsamuel thinks different, he knows a ton, and has helped me out of many a pickle. cheers.
K bro. Thanks!! +1 thanks for you!!!!
@samsamuel am talking about the white screen wherein you will hard reset ( holding volume up/down and red key). Oh well. I just talked to the person whom i bought the phone he will just put back original rom and i might just have a dual boot. Hope this will be much better. Thanks guys!!
Learn from our mistakes.... this will be sticky for me!!!
guess samsamuel is the man!!!
well glad you will have a solution. but just so you know - dual boot means one of two things - WM on your phone and android on the SD card or WindowsPhone7 on your phone and android on your SD card. No "real" dual boot per se.
honestly, i would try to look at putting on your preferred rom. good luck!
You mean dual boot isn't good? Is that more of a disadvantage rather than an advantage. Or will a noob like me [email protected]##ed this phone again and will be in more trouble?
Not saying good or bad. Rather dual boot means android is on your SD card. Very easy to get this going. Wont hurt your system. Just being informative.
I prefer nand android but that is my preference. If you will never use windows mobile and only android I would forget dual....but is all about preference. Cheers.

[Q] [HELP] Cannot enter bootloader, can still boot android

So, I cannot seem to get into bootloader on an HD2. This isn't my phone and I did not perform the original flash, so I'm not quite as familiar with the HD2 toolchain.
The problem is simple, I cannot load into the tri color bootloader. I haven't ever been able to, so I don't have anything to trace to what apparently removed it.
I still can however use MAGLDR to boot android from NAND and flash android roms etc.
The trouble is this phone needs to be shipped to HTC for repair and I need to restore to stock, but I cannot reach boot loader to use any tools or flash any stock roms etc. I saw something on the JTAG restore product but I thought wasn't ideal if still under warranty.
Pretty desperate here since the warranty period ends real soon. thanks for any help!
Just to make sure....In order to reach the boot loader screen, you need to turn off the phone and then hold the volume down button and power button until the boot loader screen pops up. Just making sure you did this!
yeah, been trying that to no avail
Can still get to MAGDLR real easy though.
thanks

Out of curiosity, are any of your buttons not working?
most are working just fine. Only weird this is the red hang up\power button brings up the shut down menu on a single press from time to time once inside android. I believe it to be caused the original issue (random boot lock ups that take anywhere from 2 min to boot android or 25 min, or doesn't at all before battery dies) but this phone has been so flaky its been impossible at times to reproduce results.

HI,
My reply was not relevant.
Sorry I could not help.
If I am reading right this sounds like a similar issue which I had. I went from my car which had really cold A/C and then went to my room which was really hot. There was condensation on the phone and did not think much of it. My buttons started either acting strange or not working. First I tried putting the phone in some rice as rice tends to attract water molecules. This did not work. I then sprayed windex with the phone off and batter, sdcard, simcard out and then wiped down the phone put it in the rice for about an hour or 2. After I did this a few times my buttons started working normal again. No more safe mode and all my buttons work.
Either that or your volume down button is just not working. In which case I don't believe there is any other way to enter the bootloader. If you can connect through microsoft activesync you may be able to restore the original windows 6.5 that way.
Only thing is the vol down button works fine once boot in android. Power button is only weird one and its only acting up depending on the moon phase apparently.

Ok so I was searching for some links on using active sync to flash but any guide I find also is using HSPL to do the flash which is not apparently present on the device. Would you happen to have any links on performing a flash via active sync that doesn't involve any sort of SPL?
Thanks a bunch
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
HSPL is what is used to flash any rom that is not an original from tmobile. SPL is the original that would have come onto the phone and locks the phone from installing any roms except tmobile. With the hspl program you need to be able to boot into boot loader. I have tried windows mobile device center which is what is used in windows 7 instead of active sync but it does not connect. I am afraid that you are stuck unless you can get into boot loader somehow. The only way I know is to hold the volume down button as soon as you power the phone on.

I'm sending mine back to HTC
FINALLY!
All I did was...wait. I took the battery out for a couple hours, and tried again and bam it came up! I tried for like two days before this. I then followed the standard LEOIMG.nbh to the sd card and it restored win mobile and SPL just fine.
I guess it sounds crazy but just take the battery out for a while or overnight perhaps. I really didn't do anything so that's all I have to offer.
I think this HD2 has an overheating issue or something because it starts to act up once on after a while (power button...boot problems as described above).

[Q] HD2 Tuto flashing = Black screen but .. ?

Hello,
This night, i have flashed my HD2 with Android using this tutorial :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
Everything was Ok. I followed the tutorial, finally i flashed the device.
My phone started with new Android system, i setup my Wifi connections, operator config....
Suddenly when i pushed the power button, my screen becames black.
Now when i remove the battery and power on the HD2. I can hear the sound of "HTC Quielty brillant" 's screen, a sound when Android looks to start. Finally my ativity LED turn Green (Stay green). The screen stay black. But the button and the backlight works fine. If i try to power on with Volume down, my screen still stay black to but i can't hear sounds of HTC (It looks like boot is working but no diplay :l )
So there is my question :
Do you think my HD2 is bricked ? I don't think cause i can hear sounds but in your opinion ?
Maybe it's my screen which is broken ? But exactly when i used my Android ROM for the 1st time ! Strange ?! :l
Maybe it's a way to fix it ? I missed something ?!
Please help me My Chrismas presents was HD2, clothes, clothes, clothes .... If I bricked my new smartphone ... I d'ont' care about clothes :S
It might be a hardware problem, it is a known problem that HD2s have their screen cables under the power button. So it might be that.
But 1 question: when you say the backlight is working, do you mean that the screen is light up, but with black color, nothing showing? - in this case, your hardware is OK. If so, then you should try getting into bootloader and install another different ROM.
Or you mean only that the buttons are lit up? In that case I'd say that the hardware is the problem.
In that case you'll have to return it for warranty... But you'll have to get the stick ROM on it back again... Thats gonna be another problem.
Lots of problems, sorry to hear that...
Thank you for your help
This is the video of what happens when i turn it ON. lol

It looks to be this case.
But when i boot my phone with Vol.Down pressed.

Is it possible that the way i flashed the phone is making that the screen don't work ? (With the version on Radio or something about flashing ?!)

Ok, from what I see, it must be software problem, because there is backlight after turn on, so the screen works.
now, have you flashed clk or magldr?
If clk, then try after turning on the phone holding the home button. That should start the clockwork mod recovery. Maybe it will start.
However, you should try connecting the phone to your computer and seeing if the PC loads the phone?
If so, you should download hd2 toolkit (search for it) and run task29 on it (that will erase the nand memory completely).
Then flash the bootloader again, then continue with ROM installation as before.
Hopefully after task29 it should start working.
But 1 warning! After task29, you must install bootloader immediately, BEFORE disconnecting the phone or restarting it. If you don't, you'll brick your phone. Bootloader must be installed before restarting/ rebooting the phone.
I'm no expert in all this, I recommend to do a lot of reading before attempting all this.
Good luck mate!
Thats not right, you can flash everytime after you used task 29, you just need HSPL.
Also the phone restarts by itself after using task 29...

I hoped someone would correct me i dont use task 29 from hd2 toolkit often, i'm on clk, so everything done through cwm.
Finally I tried what you recommend. To make a Task29. And it looks to work but my screen still stay black... I think there is a problem with the data connection between the phone and the screen... the connector must be badly connected or a little bit destroyed something like this... :l
What do you think about this ?
Thanks for your help. Sorry for the time between my answers.
I have written a clk guide that will make this process much easier for you. I'm on my phone and the YouTube video isn't working. I will update this post more once I watch video.
But as of right now it sounds like you need a new rom
Edit:
I've read more, and somethings wrong with your screen. Your screen can be broken and the back light still work. In fact, it sounds like everything works fine except the screen. I think you need to flash back to windows mobile and send it in for a warranty repair.
