Been using rubix for a while, got my theme and apps how I like, but I really want to try liberty...will a rom manager back up save all my settings, or will I need to start from square one?

Rom manager wont do anything for you in that sense. What you should try is the application mybackup pro. It will save all of your data and apps and then you can just restore it as you please
Or Titanium Backup. There are free and paid versions, the paid lets you keep multiple backups, and 1-touch restores, as well as some other stuff.
You can use rom manager to back up your current set up. The advantange to using RM for this is that you can name the backup before making it as opposed to after (I always forget to rename backups and then don't know what is what). After making a backup w/either rm or bootstrap, you can use tb or mybackup for root users to backup your user apps + data (not system apps). Then flash the new rom, restore your apps, setup the phone and make a backup.
Now you can go between roms by restoring backups and not have to wipe data/cache.

make a nandroid backup of your favorite rubix setup. then do a full wipe/factory reset and flash liberty. restore apps using TB pro and play around with liberty. if you dont like it, wipe, then restore your nandroid. thats what i do.

I have downloaded titanium and understand how to back up apps but I am lost on how to pull them back and restore them once I have done and wipe and flashed a rom. Anyone have some advice on how to do this? I have searched the web and cant seem to find a place that gives a good explanation
When you backup an app or app+data with Titanium Backup it is saved to your SD Card. When you wipe and flash a new rom, if the rom does not have Titanium Backup (most don't have it cooked in) then you need to download it from the market. It will see the backups you have and from the main app screen you will click on Backup/Restore. Then click on the app that you wish to restore and it will bring a pop-up that gives you buttons with actions to choose from. Click Restore and it will ask if you want to restore the App only or app+data. If you choose App+Data, it should restore to the state that it was in when you made the backup, meaning that it should retain your settings.

So outside of doing a batch backup every now and then to keep everything up today I dont have to do anything else but just reload titanium on the new rom

I'm not the type of person to ask for the answer and get the quick way out...I like to try and research, read and read more before asking for help.
Here is the problem:
Before I flashed my phone...I plugged in the usb and copied all folders and files on the SD card to a folder on my pc, just incase.
Then I followed the instruction to install a custom rom...I used Iced Glacier. I rebooted the phone and the Iced rom worked...after checking out the phone, to see what the Iced rom was all about, I realized I didnt use Ti to make a backup of all apps.
Here is the question:
Can I use the folders/files I copied to the pc, to add the apps back to the phone?

Short answer is no...
If you had backup enabled with Google, your apps should auto install when you log into the market. Most of your data will be lost though...
Did you make a nandroid backup of your ROM? If you did, you could now backup your new install, restore your old system backup, use Titanium to backup everything from your old system backup, then switch back to your new install and use Titanium to restore everything...?

What he is asking is did you make a backup of your stock rom before flashing ice-glacier? If so just go back into rom manager and restore your backup. After restoring, personally i prefer my backup root, because it backs up everything texts, bookmarks ect qnd it is one click for that stuff and one click for all your apps with their data instead of clicking once for each app. After doing your backup reflash I-G and redownload my backup root, run it and everything will be there
That's exactly what I meant...
Also, Titanium has a batch option in the menu, so you can one click backup and restore with Titanium also (you have to have the paid version for it to be effective, though)...

I did make a backup before flashing...but here is the problems I'm trying to understand.
From what Im trying to gather about using custom roms, is that it does not install any bloatware.
So, if that is true and I use a app like backup root...will this just install every single app that was on the phone.
Im just trying to wrap my brain around this, sorry if it is very newbish

Depends on your definition of "bloat". Every ROM contains a collection of system applications.
Keep in mind. Nandroid backups are standalone system images. Titanium Backup and MyBackup and all the other Android apps that do backups are individual application backups. They often can do bulk restores, but that is not always desired or necessary.
You will find you will want both types of backup: Nandroid, and application.
You can also selectively backup and restore apps, so you get to chose what stays, and what goes...
Play around with Titanium and My Backup, and see what they are capable of...

I'm updating RoyalGinger 1.6 to 2.0, usually I just wipe and start fresh, but recently I've been playing alot of games and tweaking settings on my phone and would like to back-up my savs/preferences, as well as my alarm clock settings. Is there a way to backup these up so when I flash the newest roms, I don't have to start over? Thank you in advance.

Titanium is awesome, but I find MyBackup Pro easier to use.
Titanium Backup - keep in mind TB doesn't back itself up so keep an apk on your SD to obtain and install after flash

+1 for Titanium Backup..
The app has the ability to create a zip file with the app on it. Make one and sign it using zip signer off of the market. This way you can flash the Titanium Backup zip file after flashing your rom making it possible to restore without adding your google account. This way the market doesnt try redownloading all of your apps.
+1 for MyBackup Pro being easier to use. And +1 for keeping a copy on your SDcard, it's kinda pointless when market just redownloads all your apps anyways...
I use Titanium back up pro just because it's stupid EASY to use. Set a automatic back up @ xx:yy time every day. It automatically backs up. When you want to restore menu > batch > restore missing app & data.

as far as people, who use Titanium backup, wanting to back up applications into a .apk. Super Manager and Absolute System Tools both do this. And both are free.
someone posted also about backing up your apn settings, with some free market app called apn backup or whatever, since some people had trouble remembering what to plug in to the RG2.0 settings there.
im also looking at moving from 1.6 to 2 just like you, but i wish i knew more about this market automatically redownloading all your apps thing. what i did was use mybackup to backup my stock 2.2.1 sms and email settings (plus some apps and data) , and then was able to restore all my sms texts, which was good.
i found that the apps i restored werent then set to update via the market. maybe i should have backed up the market app with data, with mybackuppro to maintain the link between apps and the market?
When I do a backup with RomManager before I flash a new rom does that backup contain all the apps and user data of the apps for when I flash back to it or does it just contain info about the rom and system data?
For example, I take a backup and then clear all system data and cache info before I flash something new. When I go back to the backup file I took with RomManager will it contain all the apps and stuff that I had on my system prior to the data wipe or will I need to restore all the apps individually with Titanium Backup?

Call Logs, SMS, etc. will be lost.
You need to back those up separately if you wanna save them.

Call logs and SMS I really don't care about, none of it matters to me. I am mostly concerned with having to reinstall all the apps or have to reset all of my launcher preferences and screen layouts.
All that stuff will be saved. I guess if Ur using Rom manager u are using clockwork? I backed up with clockwork and all my apps were still there when I went and restored.

If you mean you want to restore apps and data on a new ROM then yes you can use tb I use mybackup root.
No you can't restore them from a backup from ROM manager on another ROM thats a backup of your whole system if you restore a backup from rm you will restore the whole ROM you backed up.
Edit: sorry just got the op yes it will be the same way when you backed it up.

I've been trying out a few ROMs, and have had problems retaining or restoring apps when moving to a new ROM or restoring an old one. I'm using ROM Manager Premium, and MyBackup Pro to backup/restore my apps.
The problems I've had are:
1. Moved from Virtuous G-Lite to MIUI, using ROM Manager to download and install MIUI, and selected the option to backup my existing ROM. Before doing so I also backed up all my apps and data using MyBackup Pro. When I installed MIUI and tried to restore my apps using MyBackup Pro most of the apps failed to restore, saying something like "no market data found" for each app.
2. Restored Virtuous G-Lite from recovery mode, using the backup taken above. Many of the apps were not correctly restored - their app icons were set to the Android Market icon, and when I tried to run them I got "could not launch the requested activity". These were typically non-core apps that I'd downloaded from the market.
When restoring apps using MyBackup Pro I've selected the option to restore apps only (not data), as I'd previously had problems with apps force closing if I restored apps and data.
Can anyone recommend a tried and tested way of restoring apps cleanly after switching ROMs?

Titanium backup is the best app of all. Also when you switched roms, did you do a full wipe on your phone? Because usually backup apps sometimes stores the backups on the phone data so when you wiped the phone is lost all data. Hope this helps

try backing up with titanium backup. its be the best out there.
this is because you wiped your data from ROM manager and not from recovery
best thing to do when youre going to switch to a new ROM is to back up your apps (using either titanium backup or my backup) and then reboot into recovery and from there you factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and battery stats THEN u flash the new ROM
some either use the g2superwipe, or something like that
but doing it this way is the best so you dont have to mess with half ass wipes that cause trouble when u want to restore your apps

I used MIUI and it's My Backup feature but it wasn't as awesome as Titanium Backup. Titanium Backup backs up your app and its associated data. Then when you restore all your apps/data it links everything back to the market so you can receive updates through the market. ROM Manager and Titanium Backup are two must haves for any user who has rooted their Android device and is playing with ROMs.
The apps that wouldn't restore for me with the whole market link thing were "blackmarket" apps. With those making sure you have saved the apk on your cpu or something seems important. I have titanium pro and mybackup pro.

yeah, but the pro version, because with the free one you have to re-install all your apps manually. It takes time when you have 100+ apps
