I was just wondering, but does HTC perform truly extensive tests to ensure that the problem with a device in present? The reason I ask this is because even on stock winmo, my HD2 suffers from random reboots, sometimes it may take almost 3 hours, sometimes 30 minutes. I am sure this is not rom or battery pin related.
I suspect that they will do as few tests as possible for them to find a fault or decide there is no fault.
When I RMA anything I always include a full explanation of what, how and when it fails and how to recreate it if possible - it normaly works
That is what I was afraid of. I do not want HTC testing it for 5 minutes and decide there was no random reboot.
just got my hd2 back from them yesterday not only did they replace my screen they fixed my camera and outer case for no extra charge, 120 cheaper then insurance and less hoops to jump through , although after you recieve email that says they got your phone call them dont wait for call back wouldve saved me 5 days still all said and done 2 weeks 120 and almost a brand new phone hope this helps
Was your touchscreen dead? I am supposing that that is a easy test for HTC. But trying to a find random reboot?
If I had to guess, I'd say that their process is something like this....
Check for obvious hardware fault...
If found, fix it or send out a refurb
If it's not a hardware issue, check SPL...... If its stock, reflash. If it's not, send it back.

I'm very disappointed, I'm having problems again with my htc hd. At first it blocked and it wouldn't want to turn on. I sent it back twice under warranty with the same problem and in the end they replaced the motherboard.
I thought that now that practicly i have a new phone i won't have any problems with it. But surprise! The display just got crazy. When i touch the screen in a spot it activates in a completely different spot. It's the same thing on the entire screen. Check out the video.
Anybody had this problem? Oh, by the way the phone didn't managed to fall from somewhere, or get hit by something or anything else.
PS: Next step: htc snap. No touch, no worries. I hope so.

Could be that your screen alignment is not setup properly. Have you tried setting this up?
had EXACTLY the same issue. left my touch for an hour and when I cam back to it it was like that.
I sent it back to HTC and the first time they cancelled my warrenty because it had "illegal" software on it. I had Hardspl on there, nothing else.so when got it back I returned it to its origanol configuration and sent it back again. Its interesting you got a new motherboard in yours as they claimed that was the fault in mine and told me it was BER (beyond economical repair)
I am not going to accept their bull%$$^ and if it comes back again without repair i shall resend it again & again (cost me nothing) until either Carphone Warehouse replace it under warranty or HTC fix it under warranty. My phone was less tha 2 months old and NEVER been dropped or mishandled. It was in pristine condition

If you have removed everything illegal from phone, i.e. returned phone to original SPL and rom and then returned phone under warranty, they are obliged to fix it or send a replacement under warranty as your phone is only 2 months old. If they fail to comply I would threaten them with Standards agencies and Watchdog.
Let me know how you get on.

Couple ways:
1. Manual way by navigating to Start > Settings > System > Screen
2. By performing a hard reset. After you have performed a hard reset and rebooted device you should be prompted with a setup screen allowing you to align screen and then enter date/time.
Have you tried performing a hard reset?

I just did. Unfortunatelly the problem hasn't been fixed. The display isn't working good at all.
I guess i have nothing to do but to send it back under warranty again.

After your hard reset were you not able to screen align?
I had the same issue. Without any impact or misuse the screen started becoming misaligned. Re-aligning the screen would only work for a short time before it again went crazy - it gradually got worse until the phone was completely unusable.
It turned out to be hardware fault with the touch overlay. I sent it back and HTC repaired it under warranty.
Having searched a lot around the web, I think this is a fairly common fault.
The tricky part was doing anything with the phone when the screen doesn't work. e.g. removing the "illegal" software - hardspl and the cooked ROM. In the end I used some software called "EveryWAN remote support". This is free software that lets you operate the phone through your PC. You could try using this to get to the align screen. Good luck.

Update:
I sent it back again via CPW and they put a note on my file that although the software may have been "illegal" there is no way it could have caused the fault to the phone, I also restored it back to the origonal configuration so they could see it was a fault on the phone itself and not software.
Well, to cut a long story short HTC have accepted responsibilty and givenme an exchange unit and reintated my warranty so I am happy as Larry.
All I can say id dont give up on getting satidfaction out of HTC. in my opinion they have a duty of care to us as customers even if we put "illegal" software on our phone.

ABOUT THE SCREEN PROBLEM:
judging by the problem you have it might be that some of your digitizer wires arent working (broken or not having a proper contact) -- if the problem started immediately after you got your HD back from service, - then it might be that the guys there broke a wire of digitizer or didnt attach the wires to its connector-- Digitizer has 4 wires who connect to device (if only 3 or less wires work-- incorrect screen response and no way to align it) .... (sory for the english but I dont know all the names of the stuff i wish to mention )
I suggest you to take it to service and explain them the problem and say that it might be the wires of digitizer , because of the last service!
Good Luck!
oh and HTC Snap aint worth it- HD is best!!! you just had a bad model, which is one of thousands(you may consider yourself as a chosen one )
My display just stopped working. Completely. They changed the whole front part at warranty and now it works way faster while browsing it. It took 15 days to replace the part. Unfortunately I have other issues with the phone but I don't want to be off topic here.

I RMA mine due to black screen. After they returned the darn phone (after changing the bezel and motherboard - you would think it is as good as a new phone), Wifi and Bluetooth does not work. Gonna stick right beside the router or bluetooth set to detect...

Thanks, forgot that one
I have this problem, it was just this week - christmas day onwards. It's random as to the problem being there.
Bought the HD from mobiles.co.uk without cancelling the insurance.
it will always work again for a short period if I manage to get to the align screen config.
I'm running the stock rom (never flashed)
I have done some TF3D changes. (background, icons, etc.)
It can randomly decide to work again, and then randomly not work.
found out the volumer control and tap screen shortcut to the align screen config, so that should help me get it back quicker.
It's like the lower down the screen I tap, the further away it is from what actually sows on the screen. the call home back end buttons dont work when it is not aligned.
I'm in the UK and the date of the insurance letter is 15th June 2009 on an 18 month contract with O2
What should I do?
It happens more often now, and is getting annoying.
it can end up lower down the screen to now be out either above or below it
I really need help with it.
I ended up ringing the landline phone, and possibly (almost certainly) waking up people in the house struggling to turn it off.
A solution is needed pronto.
It can go wrong within seconds of doing the alignment thing

Sorry, it's my first, I have a problem with my HTC Touch HD LCD, I used it as modem but suddenly it's off and I have no Picture in my Display, the Machine is Okey I think, I have tried this morning, it can receive a phone in...
anyone know what i should do with it?
Thanks
Been using mine for a couple of weeks, but just now the touch screen has been acting up. Sometimes it responds sluggishly and sometimes not at all.
At first I thought it was one of my apps running in the background, but even after a soft-reset, the touch screen still doesn't work. Can't even enter the PIN to my sim card.
Found that if I gave the screen a few solid taps here and there, the screen would start working again.
This happen to anyone else?
I've got the same issue. I can't find any reliable way of getting the screen to respond apart from to get someone to call me and then after some bashing on the screen it starts working again. I've even updated to the latest ROM in the hope it would cure the problem - but it didn't. I contacted HTC support they offered to repair the device...

Yep, that happened to me plus the screen started jittering with some weird actions. I sold the device and ordered a new one, to be delivered dec.19.

I've contacted Handtec about the issue, my phone's just marginally inside their 28 day replacement policy so hopefully I can get a new one out of them.
I tried a hard-reset before, didn't fix it. And I've found that if I place my entire palm over the screen and give it a bit of a squeeze then that restores life to the screen for hours or days at a time

Sounds like the connectors under the screen came loose, either because it was dropped or just shouldn't have passed QA. Definitely a candidate for repair/replacement.
By the way, if this happened even after 28 days you would still be covered by warranty...no matter what some dodgy resellers say

Oh of course, but the regular warranty process is to repair the phone. Being so new, I'd want a replacement.
For what it's worth, I posted a message asking about this same fault a couple of weeks ago but with no replies. I emailed HTC and they said it was probably a hardware fault and to either send it to them for repair or contact my supplier (O2). I spoke to O2 and they suggested that it might be because my SIM card is a few years old and suggested trying a new one. I thought this was worth a go so they sent me a new card but the screen still becomes unresponsive and the fault also survives a reset. In fairness to O2, they are now sending me a replacement unit which should arrive on Monday.

I sent my back and the first time it came back and worked for a week and then stopped working completely. I sent it back a second time, they paid for shipping and ordered a new screen and replaced the old. Nice thing, I bought the phone used and the warranty was still intact.
I turned on my phone last night, pressed the camera icon in the list of programs and it disappeared and hasn't come back since?????
Then went to the picture and movie tab and pressed the camera tab (both for taking picture and movie) and nothing happens, no camera launches.
I've had the phone sitting in the cupboard for days and it's cold where I live so I wonder if it's possible that the camera hardware has frozen and the icon disappears because the system cannot detect working hardware?
I don't know but my phone is out of warranty and I am worried.
Would flashing a new ROM help do you think?
normally your phone should not be out of warranty yet, since htc offers a 24 months warranty.
and if the camera worked with your rom before, changing the rom should not be necessary, but maybe a radio/rilphone upgrade would help or a hard reset.
Thanks for the reply
I've emailed the local distributor of my phone (bad reputation for replies) who paralell import it from singapore so I might be out of luck.
Done several hard resets and also warmed the phone up to see if the camera hardware was maybe stuck from the cold but no luck.
Tried to burn a new rom (The EnergyRom looked good) and the software keeps complaining that it lost communication with the phone so I can't even do that. Tried 10 times already.
So, I guess I have to wait for the supplier but they said the warranty is only one year.
afaik htc generally offers a 2 year warranty, so they are probably the ones, you'd want to contact about that issue, but before actually sending it to them, make sure to flash back the stock rom, radio and spl.
As I said above, I tried burning a new rom but the software keeps complaining that it loses communication with the phone so I've given up.
Thanks for the suggestions though.
I absolutely agree with Chef_Tony.
You've tried enough to exclude everything. It must be a hardware issue.
I think you can check the production date via the sn below the batt. I would just go ahead with HTC and call them, and NOT your local dealer.
You can also open a ticket online but from my experience that is a waste of time since they will start asking stuff to do and email them again.
HTC provides 24 months of warranty in most areas and the sn will be enough for them to decide if it is warranty or not.
Also do not mention the custom roms as that will void your warranty, even if the issue was there on the stock rom!
So go back to everything stock, everything that you need is in the sticky on the rom page, and give HTC a call.
The ROM is a stock one. I mentioned in my above post that when I tried to burn a new one that the phone lost comms so I never could get a new rom on to test if the camera would come back so I am still stock.
HTC mentioned all the same things you guys did.
Spoke to my supplier, looks like I have to send this back. Damnation!!!!!
Okay, made a few mistakes about trying a new rom but under severe pressure since my father died so I can't comprehend much at the moment.
Will try all the steps later when I am less distressed.
Sellers have gone, phone is worse.
Just to update people, this post can be locked now.
Blue Fly Mobile are gone, nobody can find them. They told me to send the phone back for repairs and when I was just about to, they turned up missing.
Web site is gone, no contact anywhere and I read in many forums about their bad rep.
Camera still gone. Battery may last a day if that. Phone randomly cuts of calls when I make them or when people make them to me.
Looks like I will be waiting for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 when it hits OZ as it's better for my eyes.
Now, how to convince my wife that I absolutely need it???
Hi everyone! Unfortunately, my run with my T-Mobile G2 appears to be nearing it's end.. I've had this phone since November of last year, so fortunately for me, I'm still within the 1-yr warranty. I couldn't find a legit answer on the forum so far so hopefully someone will have the information I need to know now.
Lately, my phone has been getting crazy. Sometimes it would start pressing random things by itself. Apps would start by itself, things would type by itself, etc, etc. Then, at times certain areas of my screen wouldn't work at all, most noticeably the "y," "b," and "h" on my keyboards. And this doesn't matter whether I'm using the stock Gingerbread keyboard or Swype.
To answer any questions, yes I am rooted and I have been running CM 7.0.2. I tried to flash 7.0.3 to see if that would correct my issue but it didn't. I also tried to reset the phone via Privacy within the Android UI and via Recovery, both with no avail.
My question to y'all is how can I fix this if at all? If this problem is not fixable, can someone provide me with the MOST SIMPLE guide as to how to unroot and restore my original T-Mobile stock ROM if necessary for me to send it to claim warranty.. Finally, if I resorted to claiming warranty, does anyone know if T-Mobile will be sending me a refurb G2 or a new one or a completely different one?? Thanks ... This is EXTREMELY UNFORTUNATE.
it happens to me plenty. keep the scroll pad on the side from changing angles in direct light or it goes nuts. if theres any water on the screen at all touch commands work funny. its errors in the optical touchpad and cpacitive screen technology, not the;phone itself.
edit: im stock if youre wondering
It happens even in the dark though. I think its problem with the screen.
Any word on this? the same thing is happening to my phone.
Hui,
I was also having this problem for some time and was reallythinking of replacing the phone until I finally got rid of this last week. To start with I think this is a software issue but I'm still not sure what sw is causing this. n order to fix it I had to install the rom again from scratch and did not restore anything from google. Because independent from whatever ROM I installed the issue appeared soon after I set up the phone. So if you wnt to give it try, do a clean ROM install or factory reset to your phone and then while setting up your device uncheck the option to backup and restore settings to your google account. I know that setting up everything manually does not sound great but it's better than the crazy touch screen.
Digitizer issues
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Digitizer issues, T-Mobile just replaced my original release date G2 because of it.
They will send you a refurbished model and you have to send yours back in within 7 days or they bill you $400 I believe.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I had serious digitizer issues last month and thought for sure that my G2 was finished. Come to find out I had gotten some oil on my phone, probably from answering a text or phone call while eating at work. I took it out of its case and completely cleaned it with a cloth dampened with peroxide...not soaked just damp, and now my phone is back to normal. Give that a try and rule that out first before you replace the digitizer or phone. Make sure you clean the inside and outside of the case/skin if you have one too.
I finally figured mine out. I guess the digitizer is really really sensitive to moisture. I usually take my phone into the bathroom with me when I shower in the morning, once I stopped doing that and gave the phone some time to dry out (in a dessicant container, but rice would work just as well) my screen is back to normal. I guess the steam from the shower was enough to bring up some bugs.
I am asking this because I have my YP2 for 2 months now and it´s already the second time I have to send it in for repair...
The first issue was a clear hardware defect - I left it on the kitchen table around 4 weeks after my purchase with the e-ink on top, and when I returned later during the evening, the clock was ~90 minutes behind, did not move, and the device was not reacting to anything. I´ve tried the 10 seconds reboot thing on the on/off switch (a few days earlier I managed to get me into a software loop while fiddling with the stupid multi-user mode of Android 5... and the hotline guy gave me the idea for a reset with this 10 second thingy) and nothing happened... I had to send the device in.
10 days later it came back, "new mainboard" with a new IMEI, from the outside it was still the same (even my sticker was on).
Then a few days ago, only 2 weeks after the return, my camera did not switch on. Standard Android failure message. Then I realised that if I press the two screens a bit together _sometimes_ the camera comes back, from time to time with a dizzy, blurry picture, sometimes with a strange split screen (upper half of the picture down, lower half up) and sometimes just snow. And then again most of the time the Android failure message and no pic at all.
So the phone is going back to the service AGAIN... Seriously, I have never had any kinda bad luck like this with any other phone in my last 20 years before! Of course the whole setup/install procedure has to be done again (and since I am using the phone professionally, with that amount of files and apps and widgets that takes at least 3-4 hours - although I am starting to develop a sort of routine here... ) and so on.
In conclusion - because in some other topics some of you already mentioned RMA issues... - my question would be: How reliable is YP2 in your experience? Does it make sense to keep using mine, or should I sell it as quickly as, and with the smallest possible loss possible on ebay and return to more satisfactory models? I mean, I LOVE my secondary e-ink screen and things I can do with (and thanks to) it! This makes my decision even harder, since the other contestants with double screens have next to NO software support on their devices for a proper use of the e-ink, at least compared to Yota who really invested into that as well...
Sounds like you've been cleaning out Yota's monday models for everyone.
Personally, I've had mine for 6 months now and only run into some software related problems. Yota has said that they are working on bringing Android 5.1 for yotaphone 2. Hardware has been working flawlessly.
You should create a full backup of your phone before sending it in. Then when you get it back just restore it and you're up and running within minutes.
If you keep running into problems but appreciate the epd, you could sell your yp2, get some cheap replacement phone for 6-12 months and then buy yotaphone 3.
Well, in the first case when the phone completely froze there was no way backing it up
I considered doing so however the last time before I sent it in for the camera issue, but specifically _because_ of all these Hardware-issues I wouldn´t want to mess with the rooting option - and without root, there is only so much you can backup...
Still, my K9- and Nova launcher settings were done within seconds, as were the messages and call logs and google-related stuff. For the rest... well, as I said, I´m starting developing a routine Hopefully it is worth the effort and once it comes back now, it will do it´s job like ALL my previous phones did. Otherwise I will sell it and return to Samsung and never touch a Yota again...

To create a full backup, you don't need to root, but you will need to unlock the bootloader. Basically you would first unlock the bootloader, then boot (not flash) into a custom recovery, create your backup, transfer it to your computer, and you would be done. The only thing that would have changed and detectable afterwards would be the unlocked bootloader. However, I don't think that they would turn down your hardware related RMA because of that. That is not a verified assumption though.
Edit: It would seem that some manufacturers might turn down the RMA for unlocked bootloader, and some might not. Yota has not made their stance clear on this.
