I recently changed my sim card and have noticed that my battery seems to drain more even on custom roms which claim to have great battery. It is killing me inside to not be able to overcome this. Please Help!!!

yup did using app and without
Battery draining did happen to me too. To get rid of this,
1.Odin back to JFD
2.Flash back the custom rom
3.Charge it to 100%(if its switched off, use CWM to wipe battery stats, if its on use the battery calibration app)
4.Let the battery drain itself out
5.Then charge it again and use it as you normally do.
The battery should not be draining as much as before just after step 3.
From experience, coz my battery drained like 1% per 5mins maybe coz of flashing many roms, but works fine now.

ok So how do I fix this? My daily habits havent changed so there shouldnt be an increased usage. And I have data turned off most of the time.
Get juice defender and set it up for data when sleeping. It will help. Just get it from the toxic baby rom. Open the zip on your computer and extract the app, put on sd and install. Not flashable

As I've noticed people ate flooding the threads with battery issues
I thought some tips might help
1. Wipe battery stats once and only doing it when switching between liberated and cm6, don't do it everytime u flash over a newer version of the rom
2. Use minimal brightness and do not use auto, although it may seem like it helps it doesn't, someone told me this and explained basically using the sensor wastes more batter than it saves
3. Use minimal data and get into the habit of shutting it off right after your done or set it on 2g for those who need the notifications, yes it might take a few seconds more to download but its better than the phone being dead
4. Don't let the phone completely die its bad for the battery, I've got into the habit to charge it every night even if it is full and its shown improvement
5. Leave the thing alone!!! If you need the phone don't play games, or anything else that drains it

To contribute: Lithium batteries are most definitely temperature sensitive. When possible, take it out of your pocket, bag, etc. The hotter it is, the more it drains.

^ that is a very important thing as Lithium Ion batteries do not react well to being deep cycled. It is actually recommended that you charge at no less than 35% to prevent the battery " memory" from retaining half charge and reporting full. Almost all new lithium ion batteries are manufactured with a microchip attached to a PCB. This maintains battery function and also allows your phone to report what the current charge, temp, and health of your battery is.

How do we set Aria to 2g ? I want to turn off 3G however not finding any option. Battery life is terrible with Aria.
if you are on stock/liberated use the dialer to put in *#*#4636#*#* (speed is neccesary)>>phone info>>prefered newtwork type>>gsm only
cm6 has a toggle in the network settings/power manager
I've seen a couple posts, in other forums, that a task killer will hurt battery life more than improve it. Is this true? If so, why?
Also, I wiped battery stats more than I should've. Did that do permanent damage or will it fix itself over time?

some programs you cant kill so it makes the cpu jump to 100% which drains the battery
i personally find out which programs pop back up and put them on a ignore list to make it drain less
it isnt permanent it will fix over time just charge it fully and dont let it go past 15% and it should improve over time
If your in a 3g saturated area the 3g will contantly swap towers even with screen off, when i first got my phone i could sit and watch the battery level drop about 1% every 10 seconds to get around this open phones dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#* and under phone status select gsm only you use same method to swap back to WCDMA prefered for 3g if you need to use wifi tether or need high speed but this was like a whole new phone for me battery wise. will be neet if there is an app that enables 3g for like browser or maps or something like that and then swapps back to edge when not using something that would need it. if there is already one out there lemme know i could use it.

edit: nevermind i just read that it is not possible to over charge a batty but it is bad to leave it charging for more than 24 hours because it will over heat and can cause internal damage to battery and to phone

Interesting. I was wondering about this the other, thinking that perhaps my battery life has gotten worse since I put the phone in a silicone case. Is that perhaps holding heat in/creating overheating and battery drainage?

Yes I have done the CWR wiping and such. I am doing the same things I did before on DL30 but now battery isn't even lasting a day....in fact sometimes I have to put it on the charger now after only 8 hours. Mind you...I am not really doing anything that intensive. Maybe a few calls, some texting...some browsing and that's it. On DL30 I could easily go all day and still have 3/4 charge...now it's draining horribly even after wiping the stats.
Go into CWR and select the advanced option and then wipe battery stats. That could help. Also, letting your battery completely drain and then fully charging before wiping the stats could help also.

If you're using theme, remove it by flashing a new ROM. I've heard that helps with battery life, so I'm trying it out myself to see if that's really the case.
Try using a program called juicedefender from market. I found it helps my battery.
No themes being used...just the stock eb01.

There are some reports of the GPS never really turning off using eb01. If the Gps is enabled in the drop down, disable it and report back after your next charge cycle. Obviously you can enable it when you need it, but remember to disable it after you finish.
This is possibly a kernel bug, so it may not be fixed until the next update.

I don't believe batterystats.bin works that way. It's a file that is automatically generated by the Android system so just putting someone else's file on your phone isn't going to give you great battery life.
The file is in /data/system. Check again and if it's not there and you are not plugged into power then you may have an issue. Reboot and see if it shows up and if not try odin back to stock and flashing CM7 again.
Also the app Battery Calibration is very good calibration program.

i'm using battery calibration now, but still the same, other android phones forums got the batterystats.bin file just replaced and their battery life just get better
One thing that was mentioned in the CM7 vibrant threads was to manually delete battstats.bin because it seemed cwm wouldn't actually delete it sometimes.
Using either terminal emulator (em /data/system/battstats.bin) or root explorer, delete the file.
Also, turn off data when your don't need it or aren't using it, use wifi when you can (uses less power).
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The correct process is to fully charge your battery, wipe the stats file, then use the phone normally (without plugging it in or otherwise charging it) until Android shuts itself down.
Basically Android needs to start with a blank slate and see what your battery life looks like with normal usage, otherwise your meter will always be incorrect, it will jump around unpredictably, and will probably auto-shutdown at the wrong times. Keep in mind that your phone is essentially a small PC; you want a clean shutdown if possible, instead of the battery-equivalent of just yanking the power plug.
As others have said, you shouldn't use someone else's files, and unfortunately you really shouldn't ever swap in other batteries as they will perform differently. The battery profile also tracks information about application power consumption, which is why you should use your phone normally -- and the stats should get slightly more accurate over time.

That was a post by a Google engineer. It also has a long conversation involving other engineers.
Short summary of the page in points:
batterystats.bin does not store data about the battery itself.
batterystats.bin's only purpose is in settings>about phone>battery use
batterystats.bin gets renewed each time you charge your battery.
Calibration does not exist. It is a myth.
The best way is to charge to 100% , root explorer, data/,system/,batterystatsbin and delete it and reboot. It will create a fresh bin shortly after boot.Drain it about 2-3% and charge fully
I have been running bionix with bail uv and I'm getting a day and a half with heavy web and talk for 3 months without one freeze.

I rooted my phone as of yesterday, I charged it all night and when I took it off today the battery went from completely full to dead withint 3 hours of no use. I did not use the phone at all.
Any ideas?
If you just rooted your phone, you should not have battery drain... Try to temporarily disable root (with Voodo OTA RootKeeper for exemple)
Use better battery stats to nail down which app is causing the drain
Did you try wiping your battery stats in CWM - advanced?
There's also an app, Battery Calibration, on the Play Store that may help with that.
Not uncommon to get weird battery readings after changing rom's or rooting.

This is soooo strange. Not a normal behavior!! Before you root your phone, how the battery lifes goes??? Are you in a stock or modified ROM? Wich kernel are you using?
I faced this issue a couple weeks ago. Android S.O was the culprit and it was driving me crazy. I was using a custom ROM (RemICS-UX). I solved the problem returning to stock and erasing everything, then i reflashed the ROM and the kernel, in my case Devil3 0.79. If you want to give it a try!!
After that my batterys life is pretty fine, during at least 2 days!
Feel free to ask anything you want! Cheers mate
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Go through a couple more full charge cycles, if android os usage isn't very high then, it should be fine.
Edit: on second thought, draining the battery without use in 3 hours is extreme, and would suggest that the CPU is running at max speed all the time. If it doesn't solve itself or improve a lot after a few more charge cycles, reflash everything.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
Did you just root your phone or did you flash another ROM? Some ROMs have horrible battery life.
The stock battery usage monitor (Settings>Battery) should be enough to tell you what ate your battery. If it's a particular app you're running, try disabling that and see if it improves. If the usage is mostly "Android System", "Mobile standby", or something like that, then you have a tougher problem. The free app CPU spy will let you know if something is keeping your CPU usage high. Better battery stats is pretty cheap and will give you much more specific information.
+1s for BetterBatteryStats and waiting a few charge cycles before judging/debugging your battery drain, especially if you changed your kernel to root or flashed a rom.
I find that after flashing a new rom or kernel my phone, the battery level shown in recovery mode is higher than in the rom's settings, for a couple days. (You can see batt level in semaphore's recovery). I once dud a lazy search about this and found nothing, but I figure that's what is meant about waiting a few cycles gir your battery to calibrate.

There's no such thing as "calibrating your battery". It's a myth. Wiping your battery stats file doesn't do anything other than reset the tracking of what's using power. It doesn't magically fix your battery meter. Flashing a new ROM doesn't leave left over data, again a myth.
Battery life is never consistent after flashing because your ROM needs to "settle" for a day or two first and during that time your ram and cpu usage are all over the place.
The rest is a placebo effect.

Currently I'm experiencing a huge battery drain too. I used both tools which where mentioned here in this thread and when the drain occours, CPU spy reports that my SGS didnt go in deep sleep at all with turned off display, it was at least at 100mhz all the time! I attached 2 logs from better battery stats and it seems like the NotificationService is causing it?
I'm using JW6 PDA JW4 Modem and JVC CSC in combination with the MNGB 0.5.8 Kernel.
Definitely, now you got to find out what is causing it!

Yes, I noticed that WIFI kills the battery life too. That probably because, it constantly scans to try to find and connect to a hot spot of TWCWIFI. I have to make sure to turn off the WIFI after use.
Hmmmm. There are a number of rooted apps that will kill unnecessary apps from sucking the life oitta your battery.
Use Greenify. Its a pretty cool app that deff helps out.
Obviously make sure Power Saving Mode is on. Make sure to turn off anything youre not using.
ALSO. Something many people don't know...Whenever I get a new phone and or battery. I make sure..and this is important...I charge the battery ALL the way up without messing with it. Then when its good and juiced up. Use the battery normally. But use it ALL the way til your phone dies. Literally. Then...charge it ALL the way back up.
Repeat these steps a good 3-4 times. Batteries have memory in them. If you charge up a new battery to say 75% and take it off and let it drain..then charge it back up. It'll think that 75% is 100%. Thats why its crucial to do those steps a good handful of times.
I guess you can also set your brightness level to auto. Get a cleanup app. Clean Master is a good one. It even boosts memory too by clearing up random files.
I tried greenify but like as we speak, I'm on the charger with WiFi on and the battery is still draining....like is my phone screwed up?

Yes, you should. I am always amused that people will take a perfectly good device, modify it completely, and then wonder why they are having issues. ODIN back to stock rooted and don't fix what's not broken. Needless to say, I have no battery drain issues with my device. On my old S3, I used to do what you do, including running kernels by the same devs you mentioned. What I found was that I would spend hours backing up, flashing, restoring, configuring, etc, and I would be left with a device that ran like crap with piss-poor battery life. Nothing custom lasted more than 48 hours on my old S3 and nothing custom has even been flashed to my S4. No need for it.
I do notice that sometimes I get more WiFi battery drain than even on LTE. That has to do with the signal strength of the WiFi vs LTE. A weak wifi signal will drain your battery more than normal, that goes for any device.
Give us some screenshots brotha so we can help diagnose the problem.
