i recently purchased HTC HD2 phone that comes with windows mobile 6.5.
I don't have a problem with it but some friends praised Android. I tried froyo on my sd card but it didn't work very well. it crashed and didn't load properly. Then someone told me that i've to remove windows mobile and install android fresh.
Can anyone suggest if android runs well on htc hd2? will i be able to use camera, phone, wifi, data, gps with android? But primarily it should work like any phone out there, after all its a phone.
Go to the HD2 Android Dev forum. There should be AmeriCanDroid.
That's a good stable build that I'm using.
SD base.
As far as I remember, AmeriCanDroid is for US T-Mobile users. If you use european version then I would suggest trying ROMs by Rafdroid (it's of course only my suggestion, but his ROMs are most stable for me.)
go to android NAND development and search for the stickies. there is a link which show a lot of android builds.
you can choose by yourself what kind of android you prefer (sense builds, stock froyo, gingerbread etc.) just give it a try
I´m personally on typhoons cm7 which runs really great.
but do i have to remove my existing windows mobile on my htc hd2?
will i be able to sync all my contacts, text messages with android?
Android works with google, so you can put the contacts in your gmail and it will sync with android on the telephone. Text messages wont work as far as I know
Just like the other people say, take a look in the android nand section and read the sticky's, they tell you everything you need to know.
I'm on the HyperDroid and works great
read thist thread, it will help you to decide.
ps: mods, this thread should be stick. its very helpfull to noods and more advanced users

Actually, they post US and ex-US builds each time a new build is released. Many ex-US users post there, but far too many US and ex-US ask the same tired questions over and over. Read the FAQ, and enjoy a good build.
id go for this thread HERE, which should help you get started.

Me too. It is stable and has low battery usage.
Development is in progress, the remaining issues should be fixed soon.

I followed the steps provided at thread provided by gizmolisa2006.
After step 3 was done, which was to install MAGLDR 1.13 and it flashed (if thats the correct word) ROM to 2.00.000.0 by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe.
after that i pressed the power key and it doesn't go into bootloader or the magldr menu doesn't come up. i did what it said in that video as well. but no luck.
now my hd2 is stuck on white background with pink "Stick Together" logo.
Can anyone please help?
Did you flash HSPL first?

my bad, i was suppossed to install 2.08.hspl instead of 3.03.
its working fine now.
I installed gingerbread i guess.

i suggest hyperdroidgbx cm7 v1.0.3 runs great super fast and stable as all hell for me...only froze on me once so far and it was while i was streaming videos using flash...
great build
The most important thing is to get proficient at flashing your hd2 so that you can try out a few builds. Once you get hspl and magloader on your phone, I recommend coredroid simply because the instructions for getting clockwork recovery on your phone and installing coredroid are laid out fairly clear in a file with the download. From there you can try flashing other builds if coredroid doesn't suit your needs. I'm currently using hyperdroid and it's great for me.
Hi
Newbie here... I've searched for this Q & A but ' haven't found anyone with this exact problem...
I've just bought an used but barely used HTC HD2 with WM6.5 from a friend of mine.
I wanted to have both Android and WM, so i did install RAFDROID HD 4.2 on my sd. Everything went smooth on the installation, but now i wanted that Android as my default OS. Every time i turn on my HD2, it loads automatically WM. Tried to install [APP] RunDroid-dual boot to Android [SD] or WM6, and even when i select Android as default, it will load WM first...
Anyone can help me?
Thanks
António

Can you help me, giving me a tip on how i do that? (it is mandatory that i maintain WM intact on the phone memory)
well if you want nand android than your WM will be gone.
but you can always reflash it back to WM later.
if you do not want WM to be gone you should maybe try a different bootloader

I recently got an HD2 phone that is running a rom from DFT and it seems to be horrible. phone is constantly freezing and having to be reset, im always dropping service, cant sent MMS messages, Internet is overly slow and my touch doesnt want to work nor does the phone like to go into landscape mode.
with that being said, what is the best rom for me to install and will someone please help me with a sort of step by step how to for noobs?
thank you in advance
I'm using typhoon cyanogen 7. Very stable, fast, great build. If your current build is flashed via dft, all you need is to flash clockwork to install android zip from sd card.

funny thing is me reading isnt helping any, due to the fact idk what ANY of these means anyways, id just like to get my phone running better then it is now. I found the rom i want to install though
if the rom has magldr/clk in the name, put the rom zip on your sd card. Find the clockwork mod download and flash it using usb flasher mode in magldr, you can then go to ad recovery in magldr, install zip from sd card, let it install and you should be good.

someone on the car forums im on suggested this for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
would the steps be the same?
That is a build meant to run from the sd card. If magldr is already flashed you should look into nand roms. The installation of the sd rom is very different than the nand rom.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
i hate using sd roms, they are so damn slow..
well.. upgrading hd2 to android from windows mobile is pretty much easy..
1) flash hspl to version 2.08
2) flash radio to >2.15
3) install magldr
4) install clockworkmode recovery
5) install rom
6) enjoy
if you wanna try another rom, just do steps 5 through 6 and 6 again
maybe a few wipe data/cache/dalvik when you get stuck..
either way.. dont rush installing new builds.. first you snoop around this forum for people reporting bugs and stuff that don't work.. and wait for a stable release
btw, i use boyppc v26 build myself.. a bit buggy, but - i like to try out new systems as they appear..
6 in hd2 on android
Flashing radio is optional. I use the 2.10. radio and all is well. I tried 2.15 and everything was extremely slow, data drops, no market downloads, the whole deal was very frustrating. Tried 2.12 and things were fine but it seems that 2.10 is one of the more stable radios that I have used.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
see now the radio thing i dont understand. i also dont know if i have clockwork recovery mode on mine, is there a way to check? <-- dumb question prolly.
i guess what i want is for my phone as close to normal as possible, because rite now im ready to ditch this phone for something that is unrooted. half the time i cant even use it, sending texts is near impossible on the thing, and im constantly dropping calls and service.
since i cant seem to wrap my head around what rom would be good for solving these problems for a noob, could one of you give me the link to what you feel would fulfill my wants?
thanks for takin the time to help

Well then I dont really know what to suggest.
The only way you are going to be able to do any of this is if you read and learn. There is pretty staright forward guides ouy there, If you can follow them then you should probably just sell the HD2 and get a Desire HD or an iPhone.
If you think you need to post those type of comments here, maybe you should look at other areas of your life because it's obvious you are very angry/weak.

dont disagree with u, TheATHEiST often sounds like an angry little man (no offence intended), but the point being made is still valid,

Windows is gone yes, You installed MAGLDR which wipes windows allowing you to put Android on the nand in its place.
It says HTC Desire because that is the build you have installed on your device.
If you are new to all this I would highly recommend taking the time to go read some guides etc and learn all the info you need is there waiting for you. There is also a HD2 Toolkit in the NAND forum in sticky topic.
I'm a fan of HTC Sense. Sorry for confusing you, I'm new to this whole flashing thing. I've looked many times trying to find any kind of rom to download with no luck.

You need to go into the HD2 Android NAND Developmet section.
If you like sense roms you should try this one..

Are you asking if you can run to roms at the sometime similar to how a SD build works or are you asking if you can put a different new nand Rom on your phone because you would like to try out other roms?
Also if you look under hd2-android-nand you will find a list of roms you can download to your SD card to flash.

You´d have to store the RUU.exe file directly on your SD card, then extract it, and finally save the ROM image file as "leoimg.nbh". If this does work with any Windows Mobile compression/decompression software, I never tried.
Or, if you do have HSPL on your phone, maybe it will work with any custom ROM, directly stored onto your SD card.

Why on earth would he want to do that?? That is to flash Windows Mobile.
Hes asking about Android roms, Hes basically asking if he can download a CWM zip file via his phone and then flash that without need for PC.
@ OP
Yes you can do this but ONLY if your system partition that you currently have is compatible with teh rom you intend to flash. For example some roms need say 150MB partition, If you try and flash one that has more it wont work.
What you would o if you have compatible partition is..
Download CWM zip rom
Power off phone (do not reboot it can corrupt SD on HD2 Android)
Power on phone
Hold power until MAGLDR menu displays choices
Choose AD Recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Advanced>Wipe Dalvik Cache
Install zip from sdcard>Choose zip
Yes by far TheATHEiST instructions are the way 2 go. i might point out its worth keeping maybe the top 2 ROMs you like best on your SD if you have the space that is. this will allow you 2 go between ROMs on the fly.
Awesome!! That's the answer I've been looking for. Thanks so much!!!

Hello everybody.
I am new to the board - well, to posting at least. I have been browsing for information for a while and with thanks to threads here, managed to root my hd2 successfully, but a few things are still not working for me properly, so I have a few questions
---
1. I had to ring a company earlier today, which was an automated service and upon them requesting I click a certain number to be redirected to where I wanted, I clicked and it had no impact on the call - they just said they did not recognize a request and continued to repeat the question.
So, does anybody know the setting I need to change to fix this?
---
2. I am in the UK and on my old phone, a blackberry (Don't worry, I have seen the light now!) I could get decent connection, even when not in an WiFi area, therefore using 3G. With the HD2 however, even by changing the radio settings in the *#*#4636#*#* I am never able to get a decent signal outside of a WiFi zone.
I am using the Radio from these forums. The Leo one with the exe being named RUU_CUSTOM. I will try and find it later.
Is the problem with the radio and I need a UK specific one? I have tried GSM (all variations) from the menu stated, which is out local frequency I believe, but with no success.
Or am I missing something else?
---
3. My Android ROM was made for a NEXUS ONE (The gingerbread one), so could this be causing the problems above?
I had to use this one because I could not find another one which would work using CWM.
I tried numerous and after installing, it would not load due to "Kernal Load Error" - so I had to settle on this one.
My partner is American and has an HD2 also, but her's is the American model, and she has no problem installing the mass of the ROM's available around these boards. Could the fact my model is the UK one, make any difference? I would not assume so, but it seems there is a difference somewhere.
Does anyone know the reason for these points?
I thank you all in advance for any help you provide.
-Luke
Radio 2.15.50.14 is the recommended radio for using Android. I'm not too sure about the UK, but I've used my American HD2 on both Tmobile and FarEasTone [ Taiwanese carrier] without any problems, so it *should* work for you too.
The Nexus One build is one of the best Stock Gingerbread ROMs available for the HD2. That shouldn't be the problem. I'm guessing the problem is you might be using the wrong radio. I recommend flashing back to stock WM 6.5 and starting fresh.
Also, there's tons of ROMs available for CWM! However, as you have the UK model, I suggest staying away from a Sense ROM, as they require an ext4 on your sdcard for your model, and that's always been laggy for me. Try MIUI, CM7, or stick with the Nexus build is my suggestion.
Hello EB, and thank you for your reply.

I just looked at my phone and the ROM I am using is GRJ90 (NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.9 NAND), which I agree, works well other than these couple flaws, which are not necessarily related to the rom.

I did try the CM7 ROM (TyphooN_CM7_v3.7.0-cLK), but that came up with the kernal issue too. I did try a fair few more, but they all did the same until I come to the nexus, so I stuck with it.
May have to take your advice and start the process over again. *yikes*
Oh, okay, radio shouldn't be the problem then.
Do you have MADGLR or cLK bootloader installed? If you have MADGLR, than that may be the reason why that particular CM7 ROM isn't working, as you tried out the cLK version.

Dang it! I did not even notice that, but given I have only rooted one phone, surely I can be forgiven for this slip?
Thanks a bunch. Now I will go try another because you are right, I am using MADGLR.
Thanks again
You may want to look into hd2 toolkit. It makes task29, fashing and installing magldr, clk, and recovery extremly easy. I've had problems with the typhoon cm7 and would not recommend it. Try doing a task 29 and try clk instead of magldr. Clk uses ppp and magldr uses rmnet. Rmnet is haveing trouble but ppp is good. Try a more up to date gingerbread edition for clk and I think that will solve your problems.
The main difference between HD2 UK and American is the amount of internal storage. UK has 512 where Americn has 1024
