Anybody else noticed this? I have an unmodified Hero I got straight from Orange and the Market seems to be missing a lot of paid applications, the ones that use copy protection.

Can you give specific examples? Thus far, I've had no issues with paid apps with my Hero - had several on my G1 that I had to download again to my new phone.

Searching the Market for the apps mentioned on the earlier link, I can confirm that I can see some, but not all of them, an a T-Mobile G2.
I also noticed that I hadn't downloaded "DocumentsToGo" back onto my G1 (thought I had!) and when I tried it, I got the "Download Unsuccessful" message.
Regards,
Dave
I'm also missing apps on my T-Mobile G2. Can anyone else out there see the "Jack FM Live" app?
Nope I can't see that app.
The app I am missing is Battle for Mars. I have done the rounds ringing Orange and HTC to try and sort this out. Orange were fairly useless but finally just referred me over to HTC. HTC tried to claim there were different apps for different phones, but the example I gave them was Battle for Mars Lite was available, the paid for version was not available. They are meant to be ringing me back in 3-5 working days !?!! I will try and keep this thread posted. If anyone else has some news or can hassle Orange/HTC as well, I think that can only be a good thing and might push someone into sorting this mess out.
I can't find taskiller full - the free version is there but I want the one which has the full exclusion list. I've been in touch with the developer and he can see it in the market in France, although he thought that it may be due to waiting for google to review his account.
Guess it may actually be a similar problem to this. It's really frustrating because I would love to pay for the full version!
I've just got an unlocked hero that im using on o2. I can see the apps that others cannot, so maybe it's a network problem or related to the 'tinkering' networks like to do to phones before sending them.

That is really annoying - I can only see the free version using wireless or mobile data (standard T-Mobile G2 Touch, no root, not unlocked etc.). I'll let the developer know, it's really unfair that people who want to buy his app can't.
I can now see Taskiller full and Bluex which i havn't been able to see since i bought my hero, i have the Orange version of the phone.
checked earlier in the day and couldn't see taskiller full. I can now... I assume some back-end setting's been changed (whether it was a taskiller-full-specific thing the author did, or something google did centrally, I don't know)
Still can't see it on T-Mobile!

Same problems here, its really annoying. I really want the Bloo facebook app. The new 1.3 version is meant to be good .
Also on the topic of not being able to get stuff on this "open source OS".. WHERE is amazon mp3 uk . Can't take much for amazon/google to just shift the same program to access the uk mp3 store lol.
can confirm bloo 1.3a showing up for me(orange)
the guy who did http://www.cyrket.com/ mentioned apps appeared and disappeared due to sdk version checking. while i assume that isn't the issue here, maybe it's the same kind of thing? the hero's listed capabilities and the app's metadata are incompatible?
(tho why that would change just because it's sold by orange instead of t-mobile I don't know)
Since I manually updated to DI18 protected apps are missing from the market. Is there anyway to fix this besides waiting?
I'm running stock.

Specifically nightringer and pocket blu.

nothin for me either..know of any other protected apps?
I posted about this on the Help section of the Market. They should have it fixed today or tomorrow.

Here is the thread on the Google Help forum. They monitor it pretty well. If everyone comments on the thread it will keep it towards the top of their list and they might fix it faster.

yea I noticed that there are about 3 apps that I can no longer access, although my buddy's captivate has no problem finding them.
This is still a HUGE ****ing problem. What the hell is going on? I've counted 6 apps I've tried to find in the market now but can't...
One of the people in the Google thread was saying they could now reach their desired protected app. Still no joy for me though (trying to download the ESPN Radio app and an app for my bank.) Very frustrating.
The whole marketplace access model seems kind of odd even though I kind of understand why it's there. But it seems there should be a better way to handle it, especially for larger partners/OEMs with a higher volume of updates. I haven't followed it closely enough, but I wonder if WP7's market will handle the process the same way. They've certainly thought through the overall OS update process much better (i.e., putting carrier/OEM software additions into a walled off silo.)
So what must be it...
I've been trying to figure out why I haven't been able to find Paypal or Blackboard Mobile Learn on the market for the last couple of days. I guess those fall under protected apps as well then?

No go for me either, no paypal, fandango, nothing.
This happened with the DI07 update.
Give it few days and you should see those protected app appear.
errrrrr.....this is really annoying...i just want one app and is the only one i can't find...
pure calendar
Seems to be working now (at least, I was able to find the ESPN radio app that wasn't available earlier.)
Yep fixed, I see my missing paid apps now
Working for me too. I hope they coordinate better next time.
Agreed. It's finally fixed.

It's a weird bug
after installing the latest market 2.2.13
it lost all my history of installed Apps
even if i re-install the missing Apps it will show momentarily there until i reboot the phone
Can some body else confirm this issue?
it will show all my purchased Apps as "Purchased" but not "Installed" even when the Purchased Apps are already installed in the system

I don't have that version of the Market yet, but sure sounds like a bug.
I think Titanium Backup (Pro) has a "fix market links" option...maybe running that will fix you back up.
I've got up to date market and 2.3.2... apps are missing in the market, my fave being Clockr (shallow vacuous person that I am)....
It showed up in the market before - it doesn't after the 2.3.2 update. Sound familiar?

Clear Cache from Settings/Applications/Manager apps...?
Maybe a Dalvik-cache wipe also from CWM?
I'm sure you've tried those already, but just in case you haven't...
yup, already tried all of those obvious things
thanks for trying though
anyways that's why i think it's a bug
waiting for the next market update to see how it goes
Market apk
Could you upload that vending.apk with the version 2.2.13 please? I cant find it anywhere!?
I guess I'm not the only one experiencing this. I did an exchange and this one already had the new market installed (build date was 1/10/2011)...
I added my Google info and waited for all my apps to load up like my first three Nexi ... nothing.
Just never bothered to root yet. Oh well..

Clockr Evolution is protected... soz, my mistake, should've been more specific.
But what I was driving at is that since the OS update the market lags until Google fixes something to allow that OS to see protected apps. Suspect 2.2.2 N1 users are having similar problems...

I can confirm this has happened to me too, on 2.3.2 stock, no root. My protected apps are missing from the market, ledgerist and pacman championship. They are already installed, but they are not under "my apps" in the market, so if an update comes I won't be able to see it.
I read somewhere that it takes time after an update for the market to show these apps again, not sure if that's true.

It does, but only because Google is lame in this regard. When the OTA pushes out, update the Market servers to recognize it. Sheesh Google, how hard a concept to get is that?
Guess we'll have to wait it out until they update the device's profile on the market again.
I've just lost all my applications in the market. They are all installed on the device but market shows only 3 apps.
Did you find the solution for this problem?

Yeah, we know. Not there either. Miztaken1312 was kind enough to post the .apk files in the Captivate forum. I assume they're the same for most devices. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773272
anyone know much about the sercurity on the phone?
recently i read about this new free security app called on NQ mobile.
http://www.redmondpie.com/nq-mobile...st-solution-against-malware-viruses-and-more/
i installed it and noticed that it really drains the battery (seems like if toggles apps that aren't even opened into its memory). so it got me thinking .. is it really worth it to install apps like these for anti-virus's, maleware, etc.. ?
did a search and it seems the top three as of March 20th are:
Kaspersky Mobile Security (not free)
Lookout Security & Antivirus (free)
F-Secure Mobile Security (more for parental control)
not too sure where NQ would fit into the picture since the article came out on april 11th.
anyhow anyone with any idea such programs on the android is worth the draw back on power consumption and security risk please comment!
thanks.
IMO I don't think there is an antivirus app out there that would serve its purpose... It's more common sense... There's a good reason why when you try to download non market apps that you have to read that little disclaimer and check the box to allow them to install... Know what the apps do, if it doesn't need a permission or if you dont think it needs a permission then don't install it...

Very good advice. Also, keep really sensetive stuff to a minimum. If you can bank on your computer, do it.
I just flash another ROM every couple of days and get my apps from the market. Lol
i hear ya both..
so basically in, layman's terms, these so called "security" apps dont do squat?
and you should just keep personal and secured stuff off these devices and perhaps use a laptop to access key information (like banking and emails)?
I am not sure what you mean when you refer to some apps as non-market apps. think all the security apps i mentioned are available through the android market (aka Play Store).
Not the security apps. By non-market apps we mean any apk's installed that you get any place but the play store.

No, they do behind the scene stuff. Lookout scans ALL your apps, just to check for anything malicious. Lookout has some kind of backup, but I never use it. When I bought my myTouch, my T-Mobile rep installed about 5 must have apps on my phone, and Lookout was #1 on his list. I've been using it on every ROM I've had. Hope this helps!
EDIT: You can get apks from the internet. Specifically pirated apps. People do not want to pay for the app, so they download it online. But people could have modified that apk and but a virus or who knows what in that apk. So it's best to keep an anti virus app. Lookout scans a new app each time I install/update it.

Cool.. so now the questions is which security app is better.. Lookout or this NQ one.. ill go ahead and try lookout and see how much battery drain i get.
i dont download any apks outside of the market. but i hear there were a few places that had pirated apks but i guess i never trusted them (blackmarket). its not like Cydia for the iOS, where the apps are safely cracked.. atleast i think they are. so with a security app i guess it would alert you if the apk is corrupt - nice.
Thanks again.

I don't get any battery drain with Lookout. Hope you experience the same thing mate.
I used lookout for a little while, but then I realized that I only need it if I'm careless, which I'm not.
SECURITY!!!
Lookout is very good but since I'm rooted Avast free works wonders beyond basics. van allow which apps have internet access etc. must have for me. very nice on batt.
Has anyone ever had, or known anyone who got a virus or anything on a smartphone? Personally I haven't. Therefore I don't use any type of protection, which I probably should.

No, I don't know anyone who ever got malicious SW or any type of virus on Android. For the same reason I never heard of anyone getting a virus on Linux. And for the same reason, I don't have any apps that are made to protect me from things that aren't a threat.

The reason why they don't much is because there not meant for this kind of system... Android unique system is a little well very complex to make a antivirus app or that would find malware... There are so many ways around it...
It's amazing... There's an article I read that explained this...

It all boils down to not downloading crappy, unknown apps, and if downloading - checking their permissions. Trojans hit people who don't understand anything and don't have control over their apps (not that there aren't enough of those). Other threats are virtually non-existent.
