I'm an Android Developer from South Africa and only now we got this technology that is 'Mobile TV'. Some phones support the DVB-H Directly, but for those that don't there is a device that receives the DVB-H and then relays a different signal over wifi for PCs running windows and there is also an app already for iPhone running iOS to connect to this device.
Is there any way to have a similar app for Android ? How would I interpret the signal over the wifi from the device (called Drifta here in South Africa)?
I want to see if it is possible if I can develop my own app for this device or if someone else already did.
This may or may not help you:

You would basically have to know about the data being sent out. What format the packets are in, etc...
Any news on this? Did you manage to get it right?

There is a free android app for verizon fios that allows dvr programming... but there is also one called 'fios mobile remote' that allows actual control of the tv while watching it, and throwing pictures from your phone to the tv screen at any time.
I love FiOS, and have had it since it came here. Controlling my TV with my Android phone would be great.
Can someone tell me how to spoof this app or unlock it or something? There is mysteriously zero info on an update for the app to include DI, and it's not a Motorola thing because the HTC Imagio can do the same thing for WM.
I didn't even know this app existed, and couldn't find it on the market. Does Verizon make this as well, or is it from a third party developer?
yes. i doubt verizon developed the app, but they released it. It's called "Fios Mobile Remote", and I found and even downloaded it from the Market. search verizon. Anyways it gives a pop up that says this application is exclusive the the MotoDroid.
However... Windows Mobile has the same app, and it's for the HTC Imagio.
I want this app to work. I know it can, its not exclusive to one hardware maker or another. It uses Wifi to communicate. And it's one of those things that when someone goes hey what kind of phone do you have? The Incredible? Isn't an IPhone better?
And I say nope. Can an Iphone do this? change channel. Or this? Throw a pic up.
i vote for a att uverse application. though i know unlikely on a verizon phone. would be hella cool. since i get my uverse complimentary with my rent check.
Hi all mates. We all know that Android is linux based. So its possible to make this platform more powerful by making thus app for android. Its not all about hacking stuff. Its for learning purpose also. So i hope that someone also thought about that usefull utility. So lets talk about the ideas of porting Aircrack-ng to our loving android devices.
Cheers.

You should make sure if your wireless adapter supports promisc/monitor mode.
Yea even tho the m701 has atheros 6000 it can't ****, And its rf_mon btw.

I tried Aircrack-ng on the HD2 via ubuntu port. Installed fine however monitor mode cant be started
That's more likely because we don't have the proper drivers to get into monitor mode, let alone promisc.
why not go ahead only with phones having otg ? connect a compatible card
so now that the news is all over the place, is there any way to tell if this spyware is installed on the galaxy s or any of it's roms?
As i read about i noticed the remark about it eating battery and cpu performance so i think it should be studied. I can't imagine nobody cares ...
I think only htc devices do that.

I heard this could be on any Android, RIM or Nokia phones.
In case that some members do not know what it's about then please see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T17XQI_AYNo
Think about it this way, all the informations collected will then be sold to the highest bidder to promote products or to find new products based on peoples habits or needs, that is, of course, in the best case scenarios.
It's all about money...again and again! But...it logs and sends all data of your input and that includes passwords and so on and all of that is un-encrypted, so this is getting really getting out of hands and will make a big 'boom' soon.
In the Netherlands the software is illegal and therefore not present on any phone!

I'm running teamhacksung's ICS build, no CarrierIQ detected. Run TrevE's CarrierIQ test app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17612559&postcount=110
The software most likely will not be in phones outside of the US or carrier-free phones.
Can anyone sum up what's going on for me?
That spyware is only on USA phones.
I am on Vodafone Netherlands. They say it is free of this spyware. But they said the same about the spyware that blogs WA
In the Netherlands it is forbidden by law. But providers and Law thats like fire and water whahaha
Download app and try yourself.
Vodafone uk has confirmed its not on there firmware
Checks have been made using the app on other Networks and there all clear in the UK
And as in other countrys we have a Data protection Act which prevents this
Now one thing is missing is Stock Roms is this on them if so there straight from Manufactures and not Networks there so called stock roms will have it
So if you don't want to root Flashing a Manufactures Stock Rom should clear this
If its on Stock Then the Manufactures want a Bashing
I read an article that said it showed up on android on
settings -> applications -> manage applications -> ALL
as IQRD
I searched the forums but couldn't find much, has anyone used or seen an application/driver?

I have a HDTV USB tuner on my desktop PC running Windows 7. I use Splashtop to connect to my PC and then can watch TV. Not sure if this is the setup you're looking for.
I was hoping for a way that wouldn't require WiFi.

That is interesting... I'm curious how this would actually work though. If I understand right (in the US anyway), cables transmit digital encrypted signals nowadays, and require a special receiver. I don't know exactly how much TV is really broadcasted in airwaves anymore.
Regardless, such a device is likely to work fine in the N10, especially if it's shown working on a N7.

This is an OTA (Over the air) receiver so cable transmissions and encryption is not involved. You could not attach a Cable company's coax to this device. Around the world HD over the air transmissions are still alive and well but the number of receivable channels vary greatly along with transmission standards (e.g. ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-T2, ...).
Here is the manufacturers web page for this device: http://www.elgato.com/en/eyetv/eyetv-micro
The good news is that Nexus 10 compatibility is mentioned but it would appear OTA transmissions in North America are not supported.
"EyeTV Micro works in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Austria, Poland, Spain, Switzerland as well as any country that broadcasts standard definition MPEG-2 or MPEG-4/H.264 video. High definition channels, encrypted programs and/or DVB-T2 broadcasts are not supported."
There maybe a North American variant of this device but I did not find it. Also the Amazon web page did not have any technical details that I could find.
In general any "Rabbit-Ears" antenna configuration's ability to receive a signal will vary day-to-day and with the weather. Just ask anyone trying to receive an OTA transmission inside a condo/building.
As for working with the N10, they claim it works with a Stock ROM, but your experience may vary with your favourite custom ROM. I have an Ethernet Adapter which works great with a Stock ROM but is hit and miss with various custom ROMs.
You might want to try this if you have a TV tuner installed on your PC
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwyLDEsImNvbS5rZXlpdGVjaC5pbnN0YXR2LmxpdGUiXQ..
It lets you stream live tv from your pc to your device over wifi or mobile connection (will need to set up static ip or use a service like dyndns)
I use a TV tuner called HDHomeRun PRIME. It's a triple tuner that uses a cable card and plugs into your router. The company makes an android app and you can watch TV on your tablet over Wifi.
It's extremely easy to setup.

My father-in-law is beginning to show signs of Alzheimer's. Can these Android 4.4 or 5.1 smartwatches be tracked remotely with GPS using something like the Android Device Manager website's "locate my phone" feature?
Thanks
Why to do that and instead you are no using a more advanced application at his mobile?

Due to his disease, he has already lost two mobile phones. We think he'd be less likely to lose a smartwatch.
Then I would propose any smartwatch with builtin GPS, sim enabled, with Android Os (not Android wear) and Cerberus app, for advanced tracking.

Does such a watch exist for the US GSM (Tmobile/At&T) market other than may be Omate Rise ?
Thanks.

Oh, yes
I searched this weekend and it turns out there are quite a few!
Here's a whole Google+ community dedicated to them:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/118329295257118922433/communities/109827242607524552712
I had already asked in that G+ group but did not get any response yet. Think many of these watches don't have the 3G band required for US GSM networks and apparently 2G is going to be turned off per the sticky post. ZGPAX S99 works on AT&T per a post here. Plus it looks like with anything other that basic phone calls (like leaving GPS on) battery won't last much long. I hope I am wrong about all these. Have been looking for a Android/Android Wear watch for a similar use case but don't know anything other than Omate rise (bad track record, expensive) and the LG urbane (verizon, expensive, need plan). Would love to find something that works that can take a 3g sim.

I'm pinning my hopes on the upcoming Finow X1 Plus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQBPmHpC2GQ
But I'll first need to read some convincing reviews before biting!
If the purpose for getting a smartwatch is solely for safety/tracking, there are dedicated devices made for that purpose. I've seen them for kids, but I'm pretty sure they exist for seniors and medically related purposes also.

Thanks, but for some reason although there are many such watches for kids, there are very few for the elderly. Also, many of them rely on expensive US-based subscriptions and charge extra for other countries. The thing that I like about these full Android watches is that they're way cheaper and you can simply use a regular SIM card with cheap pre-paid service anywhere in the world. *Assuming the battery life and GPS are decent*, which is yet to be seen
Don't expect GPS-enabled watches to last for more than 1 day, without charging.
