Since I did not found any official bug topic for this handset, I will
start one.
Here are some finding with build 3.0.A.2.184
1. Roaming detection fails
Handset indicates that it's roaming when connected to home
network (FI Saunalahti)
2. PIN code input UI layout not corrent on landscape mode
Start handset with gamepad open and wait until PIN code input to launch.
Anybody else having these issues?
.181
I'm on .181 and i don't have any of those problems.
My correction key is at the input line and havn't been asked about roaming since i got the phone.
It could be that with roaming it just means using data. You have an option somewhere for no roaming, national roaming or international roaming.

It's on
But, what he describes, it's "roaming" even when he it's connected to carrier network. Mine doesn't do that.
I have full signal, so maybe it's because of poor signal?
Im on build 3.0.A.2.181 and don't have any problems with the phone.
The only gripe i have is with my network provider.
I come from England and used to be with Orange on my old phone, i always had full signal where i work and a data connection.
On my Xperia Play i went with Vodafone and quite frequently lose signal, and rarely get a data connection at work.
Outside of work it is fine, but at work it is meh.
As far as the build software goes though, i havn't had any bad issues i've noticed at all. Not one.
the signal is definately worse on my xperia play than on my x10, i kind of have the death grip like the iphone 4 had.
Got to agree with the signal woes here.
I swear my old Hero would've found a signal in the middle of the frackin' amazon.
My play drops signal when I sneeze.
Maybe my poor signal is with my handset and not my network provider then. Hmmmmmmmzzzz.............

Hi All,
Done a quick search on this and can't find anything relevent, but i apologise if a thread already exists.
Really a question for those in the UK on the t-mobile network. Have any of you attempted to sign up for the orange 2g roaming service yet? I signed up, recieved the confirmation text, replied to it, and received the final confirmation. However, I'm not sure it's working. The signal seems no stronger, and i still drop in my house.
Obviously i'm posting this in the android section because i'm running android myself and am wondering whether anyone in the same boat has managed to get roaming to work. Should the fact that we're on a non-official OS running off the sd card make a difference?
Oh and for completeness, i'm running shubcraft 1.5 rmnet.
Cheers fellas!
I'm quite happily flip flopping between Orange while at work and T-Mobile for everything else...
works like a charm for me though you do have to stick the phone into Airplane mode after selecting the different provider for the data to work ...

Many thanks for the reply Jezwick. So, just for clarity, you're manually selecting each provider as and when required? Because i can do that, i think. When i select orange though, whilst it registers with the network fine, i get a little "R" above the signal bar (any ideas what that means?) And the speed appears to be limited to Edge. Orange have a very strong signal round here, so i figure i should be getting GPRS really.
It's the auto-switching i'm not totally sure is working really. Is there any explicit indicator that it's flipping on it's own? Or do you just observe a generally better 2g signal, rather than say, a very weak 3g one? Round the house, my phone is still trying to make do with 1 or zero bars of 3g. I would have hoped it would flip over to orange more or less all the time under those circumstances. Nothing to stop me manually selecting it i guess though...

The R is indeed for roaming that's the way it works if your not on your 'own' network.. The 'flipped' service will currently only work at GRPS speeds at the moment but should be 3G by the new year
I have noticed mine flipping automatically but only once or twice in the last few weeks but only when I get NO signal from the current service.

Understood - thanks for the info Just done some reading and apparently EDGE is faster than basic GPRS. For some reason, i'd always assumed the reverse. Looks like the best option is just to have it always on orange whilst at home and use wifi for data (which i do anyway to compensate for the poor signal). Cheers!
So I've been using this Omnia 7 for a while now. Fantastic phone. I bought it from a dealer in the UK and have been using it in Canada.
The phone works great with my carrier, but it drops signal every few minutes and refuses to get it back for a while. It's on the latest version of Mango Zune finds. If I leave it sitting in a spot, it gets full 3G+, is blazing fast, sends and receives texts instantly. But if I'm on the move, it's constantly dropping signal.
Anyone have any idea how I could fix this? It's becoming really annoying.
I know it's not the phone's hardware - I sent in the previous one because I thought it might be, and I had the exact same issue.
don't know what frequency your carrier uses but on att in US it doesn't support all the bands.. it's usually good for me though but some areas I have to disable 3g and I get better and consistent signal on edge. needs to be unlocked use samsung tools to enable 3g toggle
My carrier supports tri-band HSPA (900/1900/2100) and GSM. I regularly get 3G+ or full-strength 3G around the city - however, it seems that if I move around it drops signal right away.
For the 3G toggle, do I have to do a Chevron unlock? Or is there a simpler way?
I've had this problem for a long time and there simply doesn't appear to be a fix.
Oh, man. That really saddens me. I love this phone, and it's perfect when it works!

yes you need chevron unlock to install the xap, it will add the toggle to your "cellular" settings menu

It's bizarre, truly. My city isn't that big, and my provider has a pretty good network. There are moments where I'm on the road and I have blazing-fast 3G+, then the next second no signal at all, repeat. I know it's not the carrier, because my old phone (using the same SIM) had no such issues, and I know it's not the hardware, because this is the second Omnia to do this. Gah!
I'm wary of Chevron unlock because everything already sort-of works, and I already have a Data toggle... I don't want to make it work less, especially because I have no idea what firmware I would restore to if I mess up.

Manitoba Telecom Services in Canada. I checked, and they have the exact same network type as T-Mobile Germany, which is where this phone originally came from. It should work fine but it doesn't!
strange issues, sorry but i believed you were from Europe, anyway the phone should automatically switch to E (dge) when it's not covered by 3G+, at least this is what happens to me, but i'm on different carrier

I think it's just low signal strength - it's typically out of reception in buildings, tunnels or basements, even though my old phone had reception there.
I live in London, I am on T-Mobile, with a T-Mobile branded handset which i chevronned to Mango.
I have lots of signal problems, which I posted about previouslty.
Would love some help - generally my signal either gets stuck on GPRS, or zero. I rarely see 3G in places I used to get full 3G+

For those on T-Mobile UK Network, could you share your thoughts about the data roaming between T-Mobile - Orange 3G network?
Does it work for you, does it boosts speeds?
In my case it defaults to T-Mobile Orange, although this is a correct selection signal-wise, as I've got 3-4 bars of 3G+ (2-3 bars with 'vanilla' T-Mobile), I guess Orange speeds are **** in my area, resulting to 700/40 Kbps down/up best case scenario (40 Kbps, that's kilobit per second, or 5 KB/sec). Worst case scenario is ping time-outs, because the upload speed is so slow that even the initial command is difficult to be transmitted. Sites with pictures is almost a no go, the same applies to traffic intensive apps, e.g. maps.
When I force T-Mobile via Settings (manual Network selection, data roaming set to off) speeds go up, to acceptable 1700/300 Kbps. But after a couple of minutes, the network changes to T-Mobile Orange.
I called cc to deactivate data roaming (international), just in case it deactivates domestic one, but to no avail. No one in T-Mobile knows if I can opt-out of domestic data roaming and give me foolish instructions ''remove your battery, remove SIM card, reboot phone blah blah blah****''
Any experiences? Does 3G roaming work for you?
Hi, its kinda hard for me to tell as I normally have quite bad signal and its really annoying. I had issues with WiFi and 3G conflicting and I thought it was the 3G but since I updated to mi7ROM I havent had this problem - so not sure pal
I'm on Orange UK and opted into this ages ago. As far as I can tell it's a load of rubbish and doesn't work properly.
In my flat I get low GPRS with Orange. If i force it to T-Mobile I get full 3G. However the roaming defaults to Orange and so I'm stuck with GPRS and poor reception.
In addition the Omnia can't seem to handle switching between networks properly resulting in data connection problems where it will lose it altogether.
I have noticed that the T-Mobile 3G speed seems higher than the Orange 3G speed too.
i can only echo Freypal, thats the exact same as my situation. great idea, but it doesnt seem to have been implemented properly.

As a t-mob customer i too find that the auto switch to orange results in my data falling over, requiring me to go into flight mode so that it will auto reselect the t-mob network.
I did ask to be opted out but the t-mob CS recommended that I be patient. They are aware that there are problems but hope to have them sorted soon(ish)
I'm having exactly the same experience as the original poster. I took the phone into the shop and a staffmember agreed that the Orange-TMobile 3G is not working yet and they are getting a lot of complaints. I spoke to customer services but they say you cannot opt out and they are working to resolve the problems...but they would not give a timeframe when pushed ("days, weeks or months?").
I think its worth starting an Ofcom complaint.

T-Mobile has implemented signal sharing with Orange. In theory this should enhance coverage--particularly 3G coverage--for T-Mobile customers.
The reality is that this signal sharing is not working properly. T-Mobile customers' phones are constantly getting stuck on Orange transmitters even when there is good T-Mobile reception available. This can mean customers have barely 1 bar of low-speed 2G ("G") Orange signal even when there is strong T-Mobile 3G signal available in the area.
T-Mobile say they have activated "smart signal sharing" which should prevent the above from occurring. However, this has failed to fix the problem.
T-Mobile say customers can't opt out of the new scheme. It needs to take notice that for many of its customers the signal sharing scheme is counter-productive and *reduces* the quality of the service they are getting.
Please sign this petition so that T-Mobile/OFCOM realize the extent of this problem.

Hi everybody, I've been using CM10.1 build of July 3rd since it came out, with overall good satisfaction.
One major issue bothers me and I would like to get rid of it: when I enter a bad 3G reception area, my Defy+ disconnects from the 3g network, and it stays disconnected even if I move back to a good reception site, because it prompts for the SIM PIN and obviously I'm not watching the screen every second.
I dont think this is normal. It should retain the PIN entered at power-on, and restore 3G connectivity as network becomes available again.
I'm on italian TRE network operator, which has commercial agreements with competitors in order to fall back to nationwide roaming in areas where it is not present. Also, it only operates 3G frequencies, while when in roaming the phone should lock into 3G and 2G as well. Maybe this piece of information can help you in helping me.
I'm on mixed GSM/WCDA mixed mode (WCDMA preferred).
I tried to search in other thread but couldn't narrow down an exact asnwer, most of the topics I read dealt with RIL BUG (?).
Thanks

What build are you on?
Problem has been resolved. See my final post in this thread.
Long time lurker. First time poster.
I am having problems getting 3G data on my new phone.
Last week I activated a new Moto X Pure Edition on the Sprint network via MVNO Ting. The phone appeared to activate just fine. Voice, text, LTE, Wi-Fi, and 1x data are all working without any obvious issues. Phone is pure stock.
3G data is not working. If I set Preferred Network Type to "LTE (recommended)", mobile data works on LTE but if I travel to an area that has not yet been upgraded to LTE, it will not drop back to 3G. Further, if I choose 3G as the Preferred Network Type regardless of whether the phone is connected to an LTE tower or a non-LTE tower, I get no data connection. Same for Global - no 3G connection.
If I choose "1x" as the Preferred Network Type (whether in an LTE area or not) then the phone will establish a data connection. The phone reports this connection as 3G in the status bar but the speed is so unusable that I doubt it can be a 3G connection.
I've done a carrier wipe, updated the device config (profile) and updated the PRL, all several times. Nothing changed. I've also done a factory reset which also did not help. I did not have any issues with my Nexus 5 which the MXPE replaced. I have since reactivated the Nexus 5 with a new number while troubleshooting this problem and it reactivated just fine. No issues at all.
Questions:
1) SignalCheck Pro reports that mobile data is "unregistered" when trying to get 3G data. Is registration of 3G data tied to the SIM card or to the MEID of the phone? Trying to determine if the registration problem lies with the SIM, the phone, or the network.
2) Why would I be able to get a 1x data connection but not 3G?
3) Ting is suggesting network problems may be playing a part but I'm not sure as the problem has persisted through several cities around west Texas and eastern New Mexico and throughout Lubbock TX which has many cell towers. Is there any way this could be a network issue?
4) Is the SIM for the MXPE compatible with my old Nexus 5? I'm wondering if swapping the SIM into my N5 will help to diagnose the problem.
5) Is anyone else with a MXPE having issues with 3G data?
This one is puzzling and I need some help from the gurus. Thanks much.

Bump.
Swapped SIMS with one sent by Ting to verify the problem wasn't with the SIM. Still no 3G.

Update. After two Moto X PE phones, numerous factory resets, much research and testing, there is now a work around to this problem. The problem does not appear to impact any phones on the big 4 networks. It only impacts phones on a Sprint MVNO.
There are now known eHRPD issues with Sprint and their MVNOs. The work around solution is to disable eHRPD. Sprint is working on changes to eHRPD that may resolve the issue permanently. Thanks to Ting for their persistence in helping get to the bottom of this problem.

Final update. Earlier this month Sprint released some changes to the way eHRPD handoffs are handled and that resolved my issue. My Moto X PE now works as it should with no workarounds necessary to get 3G data.

So why not work 3g? Is the problem in cell operator?
^^Sprint had some issues with 3g (ehrpd) on mvno's. It would work if forced to evdo, but not ehrpd. Sprint made some changes to their network so this now works correctly. It was a network side issue.
