Just curious to see how many people here are choosing to NOT use a case for their new MT4Gs.
Thanks.
I am not using a case

no case here......i tried the slip on that has a kickstand and so far to me that seems to be the best one but i just didnt like the additional bulk it added (however minor).
I'm not, but not by choice...only because there are not cases available yet that I feel are worth the $ or are of acceptable quality & looks for me. The dual layer (silicon + hard shell) from Tmob isn't bad, but it's only available in white & "lavender", neither of which I'd use on my black MT4G.
I'm considering going with a skin or just some cheap silicon case until something better is available. I just dropped it off the table (<3 ft) in my kitchen for the first time this morning and got a tiny nick in the battery door, so something is needed (for me anyway). I was surprised when it dropped from less than 3 ft and the battery door flew off and the battery popped out. I'd expect the door to be more secure than that. Thankfully, nothing else was scratched or damaged.
I'm going to put a gel case on it due to the kind of work that I do. Never had a case on any of my other phones... going to go all out on this one with Zagg screen protector, gel case, car and home docks (when they become available).
No case here!
Don't care for cases much but the accidental drops just makes you wish you had one so I do!
Dont b dumb its a 500 $ phone y wouldnt u use a case unless ur cool with just throwing money around lol
HTC Mytouch 4g S-off Root
No case here but I got accidental insurance
I'm not using one, I don't plan on buying one ever either. I've never used cases for any of my electronics and I've never broken one. Id rather pay for the insurance than have a huge ugly phone that barely fits in my pocket, but its really personal choice. I feel like the mt4g has really good grip with the rubber sides too, doesn't seem like much of a risk to me.

No case here... Only because I don't drop my phones.
No case either.
To me, putting a case on these devices is like picking up a beautiful sexy thin woman then taking her home and putting a fat girl suit on her.
No case... yet. Not sure if I want a case or not. For the time being, I'm using the case that came with my G1 long ago. It actually fits the MT4G perfectly.
No screen protector either. I'm waiting for one that covers the whole front, not just the screen area.

Order the Realook screen protector on Amazon. It covers the entire front area, except for the buttons.
No case for me at the moment. Can't see myself dishing out $20 for a case that doesn't appeal to me. I'm going to wait for Epik to make one. I like thier stuff.
None for me here, just a screen protector from T-Mo

Does the Realook use water or soapy water as the medium? I'm kind of leery about those with water.
Anyone else noticing how bad the plastic battery cover is on this phone? Everytime i hold it creaks. Doesnt make it feel like a quality device. Anyone else in the same boat of do i have a crappy back cover?
Not creaky here...nice tight fit
Mine fits great as well. No issues.
Ive taken the back cover off at least 20 times since the 8th. My phone feels solid, no creaky feel what so ever.
Same as with everyone else, my phone feels and sounds solid. No creaks here.
only if I really try to make it creak.

maybe you cover is not snapped on all the way??
mine is also fine..
Yea i think that im going to get another battery cover. Mine is creaky towards the bottom left. Almost like its not snapping together correctly. The main reason i returned the HTC Surround was for the creaky battery cover. It gave me nightmares because i dealt with a G1 for 2 years with that problem.
never had a creak but i would suggest getting a tight fit cover for the phone. Mine is red and black and the brand is case mate...awesome cover to protect my sweet ass phone!
I've noticed I get some creak in the top left corner above the camera, nothing major though since I never hold the phone by that corner.
I would say it's a faulty cover (return/exchange the phone) or it hasn't seated or snapped into place properly even though it looks like it's in place.
It is plastic and makes the phone super light weight.
I returned mine and got one back in which the cover is perfect.
Also, the screen is a bit brighter (same settings) and the audio sounds a bit better. I also ordered a screen protector and case (smoke plastic) which works great.
The phone is very impressive now.
Hello all, I have had my phone since Nov, but since having it I have had a case on it from eBay, but have seen that paint is wearing off on the edge, anyone else have the same problem?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've only had my phone a few days but I've been looking at cases on ebay after trolling through reviews... Is there any chance the case could have caused the paint to ware off like some kind of chemical reaction form bad materials ect in the case reacting? Or is the wear obviously in a place that's not protected by the case?
Any info on what case you have especially if you think you've found it's not a good case to protect my Desire HD is much appreciated!
Hey, I think its from the case just being on it because its the front next to the screen. It's one I got from eBay for like £2. It a gel case thing.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Without having specific awareness of that case, I can say that it is quite possible for this to happen if you think about the chemicals that are used in such products. This might be the difference of a better quality and hence expensive product vs a cheap Chinese replica (not mean to say that all China products are bad since all of them are manufactured there anyway).
After seeing what happened to my car's console when it came in contact with the liquid car aromatic (melted like butter), I am not excited at all from what you mention here.
Like I say above I think it more to do with the design rather than the chemical reaction as it is only on the corner. I will try get some pics up but will be hard

Not sure whether I should be nervous or not about trying a cheap arse grey TPU case I bought from ebay for around 2bux.
Well its up to you, I take my phone out of it a lot more than I should. I will get some pics as soon as I get the internet at home

There is a slight bit maybe 3mm long right on the bottom right edge of the screen where the aluminium ends and the plastic sim cover begins. Just looks like the paint has been eroded off.
Hopefully won't spread too far too soon.
Can anyone tell me how the tough the glass screen is? Is it gorilla glass? Do you have any scratches on yours?
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/#featured-products
I am looking at the LG Optimus 7 and the Samsung Omnia 7 (16GB version). I would buy an unbranded Sim free version. The O7 definitely has gorilla glass. I don't want to use a screen protector, but the last thing I want is to scratch the screen.
I'm not sure weather it has Gorilla Glass but it's a tough phone. Had it about 4 months now, dropped it several times, keep it in my pocket without a protector. No scratches at all (this includes the screen and the rest of the phone).
I've even dropped it on the dancefloor in clubs and it's been fine.
would love to share your experience.
my omnia 7 seems to scratch far more easily than my hd2 or hd7 ever did.
Scratches magically appear on the bloody thing
If the Phone has even one noticable scratch then it is much harder to sell it on. My iPhone 3G, HTC Desire and HTC HD7 were all pristine. Apple made a big deal about using harder glass from the first iPhone. The HTC Desire and HD7 both have gorilla glass. As do many others.
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/#featured-products
To me build quality is vital. That means metal chassis and toughened glass, no creaks etc. The old Nokias ie 6310i were legendary for lasting for years, requiring no more than possibly a new battery
.
One of the key reasons why Palm failed was because of low quality, cheap Pre build quality.
So it doesnt actually have Gorilla Glass
I agree with the pristine quality. Main reason i sold the HD7 because i didnt feel it was a solid product. It was laggin behind in performance to the omnia 7 as well as build quality. Hate creaks in nokia phones. I left them with N97 and HD7 had the creaks too so i left that too.
It was indirectly confirmed by a Samsung rep to have gorilla glass.
The Samsung Focus is confirmed to have Gorilla Glass
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/get-to-know-the-samsung-focus-with-windows-phone-7
And MobileTechWorld says that the Omnia 7 does, but doesn't offer collaborative proof (but I guess the review has been told)
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/11/23/samsung-omnia-7-hardware-tour/
I emailed Corning a few weeks ago asking about this. They said that they cannot tell me due to privacy agreements with other companies and to ask my phone manufacturer.
I find it hard to believe Samsung would put it on the focus and not the omnia 7.

It is on the Omnia 7. Samsung is not able to provide an official statement since they have an agreement in place with Microsoft.
This agreement enforces the "differentiation" of the different phones that were released by the manufacturers for the wp7 launch. Each manufacturer is allowed to advertise a unique feature of their brand ie. LG DLNA.
I also think it is gorilla glass. I have mine from middle December and no scratches at all. (glass and aluminium back). I dropped it once or twice thought, so I'm very pleased with the build quality =P
Yeah. I've dropped mine a couple of times onto a marble floor and there's not so much as a scratch anywhere.
It's a superbly built phone.
Could do with a rubber coating. Would solve all the dropping.
The phone is as slippery as a fish
I like it the way it is. Slips easily in and out of my pocket. Having a rubberised/high tactile coating would just annoy me
Well it wrecks my head. Have to hold the phone really tight to make sure it doesnt fall out. A bit better now since i got a vynil skin.
But **** that. Never had that issue on HTC phones. They were always much comfier to hold in hand and always provided plenty of tacktile grip but not too much as you said to make it slip out of pockets easily
for me the only so so item of buld quality is the home button made o plastic and having e little of movement if touched.
other than that best Phone ever after iPhone 2G
Well I have a story to tell about my Omnia 7. I dropped it while coming down the stairs on the 4th floor. My heart stopped as I heard it bang along the sides of the walls and hit the ground floor. I went down. The cover, the battery cover, the battery and the phone were spread all over. The gorilla glass has cracks but it has not come off. The phone works as if nothing happened. Only the cracks remain. Its still fully functioning and this incident happened on the 1st week of February (Feb 8th to be precise). I will post pictures of where it fell from the phone itself if anyone is interested. btw, I forced the Nodo update on Saturday and updated successfully on first go. Its a T-mobile UK unlocked.
Its a superbly built phone. Haven't seen anything like it.
I've gotta echo many other people experience here.
I've dropped mine quite a few time, this weekend just gone actually on a dance floor, fell flat on its face hard enough for the batter cover and battery to shoot off.
BUT yet not a single scratch on the screen or casing.
Which is good because like someone said, its a very slippery phone.
Well, I haven't dropped mine, but it has small scratch, that can be seen when the screen is fully cleaned and watching it at light

Couldn't have said it better!
I know is OT but has anybody of you have slightly loose home button that when you just touch it makes the sound of plastic hitting the glass?
I m talking 1/10 of mm here but I just ask
nevertheless have great feedback and response.
thanks.
Hey, a couple of days ago it fell out of my pocket when getting into a landrover (which was quite high up). I had no cases on but i did have a screen protector. It dropped straight onto its side and did a backflip then finishing on its screen, to be honest i am very surprised that the damage is very mild, with only a few chips in the aluminium and no scratches on the screen at all because of the screen protector. After dropping the Dhd i feel i love my phone even more, i dont know why :L. Peace out!
Get a TPU case , it will save your day .

You're DHD is unibody. Its a single piece of aluminium. You'd more likely break your floor than break that thing.

Well , its true the back panel is unibody .. "but there is a limit of tension that it can take after that ..... its history "
So keep your hopes low .... and try not to drop it
I did something similar. I pretty much threw my DHD across the road with it spinning on its screen. Only a tiny mark on the corner of the aluminium. Not a scratch on the glass.
get a case, the HTC one is really good
my mate fainted and fell down the stairs with his DHD in his pocket, it was virtually pristine afterwards
mines over 6 months old now and it's had some major use and it still looks brand new
don't think i'll ever change manufacturer , HTC build quality is fantastic
same here lots of heavy drops and still brand new, not one scratch on the screen, no screen protection, just the HD2 leather cover
the DHD seems immortal
also i don't know if the HTC Sensation is as rigid, the whole thing is completely detachable from the unibody, so similar falls might detach the whole thing
on the other with the DHD not even the plastic covers ever detached, its why its so hard to open i guess which stupid reviewers keep complaining about

I had a real issue with this when I first received my DHD. I couldn't open it. Obviously I was unhappy and thought it was terrible but now I realise that you have to compromise somewhere to have such excellent build quality and general solid-ness.

I actually think the covers are easy to remove once I learned how to. It was very difficult for me at the start, but now its no harder to open up than any other phone. Lesson: RTFM.
The build quality of the DHD is superb. No drops here, but it did survive being keyed accidentally without any marks or scratches.
Actually, even I've had some problems with open the battery cover. The guy from the store I bought it from said that mine was unnaturally stiff. That thing takes me around 15 min to get open.
The sensation is actually more rigid. The Unibody design continues into the battery compartment and is really solid. The cover is merely a design.
