I have just received my second DVP and i updated it....
now every time I try to use it with zune - zune ends up freezing (or it seems like its frozen...maybe it just slows down?) either way there is something wrong and I cannot seem to get it fixed...any ideas? anyone else with similar issues?

that sucks, I have been doing the same...I hope someone comes across with some good insight on this one....It's hard to troubleshoot it also since it gets stuck and task manager even takes a while to end the task sometimes...so I understand how it's a pain to do so....

Couple of thoughts here - have you just added to your media library, or has Zune had time to properly import your media? I noticed this when I first loaded Zune, but after it had some time to inspect my media files and populate my collection, no real problems after that.
Also saw some lagginess the first time I synced my phone.
One last possibility, Zune seems to slow down if I have a bunch of dynamically building sync groups that need to be cleared and rebuilt when I sync my phone.
Just a few ideas and/or observations, hopefully they help.

I tested this today. My Zune synced nice and fast. So I added 4 sync groups, pictures. Not only did it slow way down, but impacted laptop performance. After a couple of tries I erased the media and let it do a very simple sync....speed was back. I have an idea or, but I'll look at them tomorrow . Good call mage .
Next time it happens, check Task Manager to see if ZuneEnc.exe (maybe not that exact name) is using a lot of CPU. It's a process used by Zune to encode videos to the format used by the phone.
I have not tried the recent suggestions, but I would like to say that I have tried the 'Zune Media Collection Reset Tool' and had no luck still with that...
I know when I had my 8gb dvp zune seemed to work fine...but now with my refurb (which is a 16gb) I have these issues....
I also noticed when I use wifi it seems to freeze up my phone...maybe related? idk...maybe the phone just desperately needs a firmware fix? or zune needs a fix? idk?..
I will return to this thread later when I have some more insight or info...
I have Windows 7 64 Bit by the way...
I tried a samsung focus and it works fine...
it seems to be something with my DVP and ZUNE on this computer specifically... I have tried another comp with XP 32 and its fine and now I will try a comp with Vista 32....

Hi,
So here's what I want to do:
I have a folder on my pc with files in it. I want that to sync that with a Cloud storage type system online. Then I want a folder on my Touch Pro 2 to sync with that online folder. Now I know what your thinking and before you flame me with stuff like dropbox, sugarsync, mesh, myphone etc... they can't do that. They sync from pc to online just fine, but then on the tp2 I have to navigate to the web to retrieve files, or with sugarsync there is an app to install and I can load the app and download the files to a folder that way. I don't want to do that. I want a folder to always stay sync'd. I've search all over and can't find that kind of functionality. This would be real handy in a scenario where i need to constantly sync 5 or more phones together with multiple pc's. I don't want to tell the user, ok go to www.getdropbox.com or load this or load that...
I hope I am just missing something and it does exsist.
Live Mesh does exactly what you are talking about. Just leave it running if you need it constantly updated rather than just when you run it. That is the exact purpose of Live Mesh...

Unless i missed something, then it only works that way if your able to install mesh and sign in on your phone. I didnt think they were accepting anymore ppl for testing on mobile devices. I installed it and checked just to see. Without this, your forced to grab files from the web.
I can't get the live mesh program to work on my Sprint Touch Pro 2. It lets me enter my login info and then crashes while logging in. Is there something I'm missing?

No clue about why it would crash. It doesn't matter anyway, you can't use it. It's closed to new people.
Anyone have any thoughts about the actual topic of this thread? There has to be a way... No one needs to do this?!

It's not closed. You just need to activate your mesh account for windows mobile which involves clicking on a specific link. I did it and I got the client installed and working. Works great! But wouldn't want to deviate from the actual topic of this thread...

How would that be deviating? If there is a way to get into Mesh and it's not closed, that would potentially directly solve the original post.

I will report if this works. Thanks!
it definitely worked for me. you'll see that windows mobile becomes an option in your mesh after visiting this link. but getting the program to validate on your device (touch pro 2) is hit or miss. i just had to try it many times and finally it worked. then there is also an issue of the program crashing upon startup that i mentioned above. i've narrowed that down to being related to the memory card. the program will start if i remove the memory card prior to executing it. i can then put the memory card back in while the program is in the login screen and it works. still trying to find a better solution. let me know if you have any luck.

Been playing with it all night. So far it's working flawlessly. No crashes at all. I have a 8gb storage card. It's sync'd to and from 1 other verizon phones, and 4 pc's... It's cool, you take a pic with your phone and voila it's on my wife's phone too, as well as the mobile picture directory at home. Would love to help you get it working too. Have you checked out this forum?

You can also use Remote Touch. It doesn't sync, but it does allow you to transfer files remotely, back and forth from your desktop and your phone. And of course, you get the added benefit of controlling your desktop remotely with your phone.
When I'm in a hurry to leave the office I'll queue a bunch of files in RemoteTouch and have my phone download them while I'm on the road.

Can you tell me the exact phone you have? Is it the Verizon touch pro 2? Maybe it's my brand of memory card? It's definitely good when it's working.
Also, did you have any trouble validating the phone on the mesh? Took me several attempts and it seems other people had the same issue. I have been to the site you linked a little bit but maybe more research is in order.

can you tell me if the live mesh client is running robustly on your touch pro2? i had tons of crashes the last time i messed with this. haven't tried it since. most of the problems i had are documented in this thread.
For the op, there is a Schaps Network plugin, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67564. It may do what you want, too. Not sure. Just making a suggestion.

No, I certainly couldn't say "robustly." It's more like "haphazardly."
I installed WM7 into my HD2, contacted MS, activated marketplace and xbox using the tut. All went mighty smooth thanks to you guys.
Only problem im facing is that FB refuses to stay logged in. I log in once, browse , close it and then when I come back, it says
"facebook passwork is incorrect".
I give the same password, and its all fine for that session. Then i close it, and its back to square 1.
Help please.
I had exactly the same problem!
After re-installing WP7 & doing the activation steps by the book, it seams ok now.

Are you saying installing/unlocking WP7 is not simple??
If yes then you should just stop right now, flog your phone and get a nokia 3310!
its simple allright. but i already installed tons of apps and synced contacts ( which is a badass pain in WM7). But is there any other fix to this ?
My WP7 did the same & re-installing with the same memory card fixed it.
Installing WP7 is a lot easier than Android, unless your apps are on ext4.
Have you been running PC installed xaps? Cus if I install from PC they all get revoked after a short while
m$ are messing me around reg getting a key
Well I'm quite enjoying WP7...but I have a bad problem.
If I send an SMS, it does not actually send until I reboot my phone. I've done a reflash twice but it still happens. I cannot figure it out.
Anyone else had this issue?
I'm going to try one more hard reset, and test it again before doing any customising or installing of apps, see if that works. If not, will have to go back to Android....
EDIT: The problem is with Connection setup. You need to finish all your tweaks with the xboxmod xap file, and then delete custclear.provxml from /Windows if one is still there. THEN run ConnectionSetup again and it should be back to normal
Wierd Issue
No problems here.
Do you have HTC Connection Setup installed?
How did the Hard Reset Go?
Android is not the Solution.
hah, i noticed it about three hours ago too, I just posted the following elsewhere
Going back to android as of twenty minutes ago after two hours testing when it turns out that the connectionsetup process of changing the phones identity to HD7 breaks my txt messaging - welcome back the dreaded 'messages stuck in outbox untill soft reset' problem.
Lost a days work today because i assumed the client hadn't replied, he (and about a dozen other people) all got txts off me at 10.15 this evening after i soft reset.
Ive checked, double checked and tripple checked, sent and recieved about three dozen txts, changed radio, hard reset, and every time, sms works fine, instant send/recieve, but starts getting stuck after the LEO70 to HD7 registry tweak.
Shame cos i was really starting to like it.
(EDIT - downloading and running the market HTCconnection setup doesnt fix it)
As an aside, the connection setup in most androids fails with mine too, though with a different problem, so i suspect the problem may actually be with the htcsetup app, which is the base of the registry tweaking hack. But at least with android i can manually make it work.

Bugger!
I just did a hard reset, and without doing anything else, SMS works fine.
But as you said, this reg tweak is breaking SMS...but why isn't the problem happening with everyone?
Grrrrrrrr
Will investigate more tonight after work...
i just had a thought, but ive removed wp7 now (need it working for teh morning) but heres what ill try next (if i can find teh time to try again from scratch)
flash it, unlock it, then delete the CustClear.provxml file we moved to windows and run the real connection setup from teh market again. it didnt help for me, but i hadn't removed the CustClear.provxml file, so it would have been installed again (perhaps? dunno, but worth thalf an hour to check out, ,, if only i didnt have a real life, , , , hehe)
good luck.

SMS Issues
This is what seems to work for me, after countless days and minutes contemplating throwing my phone because of windows 7, I love it, very simple and straight to the point.
1) go to settings and put in your carriers apn - or connect through wi-fi
2) Log in with your live id from MS.
3) because of the restrictions we can't download from marketplace I could be wrong so use Tom XAP to install apps.
***what i've notice is when i deploy "XBMODDeployer.xap" and "Connection Setup.xap" that is when i started having mms issues where I would have to reset to get text messages that i send out to send. I can still receive texts but it won't send till i reset my phone.***
So my suggestion is to to all the settings to get it working except don't deploy those to XAP mentioned above.
I hope this helps anyone.

We've already found the solution. I'll update my first post.
All you need to do is run connection setup again, after deleting the custclear.provxml from /Windows
Good to know it was that simple. I'll have another play next day off.
So here is my question. Is it even possible to put WP7 on the HD2 with a Mac computer?
I dont have bootcamp because i dont have the disk space, or the windows disk. Nor do i really want to put windows on my computer.
I have been running android for a few months, and I am interested in trying WP7.
How do I go about doing this?
Must I have a windows computer?
use virtual box to install windows XP, the only thing im not 100% sure on is if a forwarded USB port will allow flashing, ive had 32-bit IrDA devices work on a 32-bit guest of a 64 bit host so theres a good chance it will, guess there is only one way to find out, it will either connect or it wont, shouldnt be any issues, unless it doesnt work
Let us know how you get on
oh if your low on disk space just get a 8GB flash drive and dump the virtual machine files on that, it will slow things down somewhat so it might be worth considering having two flash drives, one for the virtual machine one for the WP7 install files, unless of course your able to share a folder from your Mac to your VM
Do you all think it's worth getting rid of android and go to WP7
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
That depends on a couple of things
First and formost, do you have an SD card that will work with WP7, without that the answer is no, even a mostly working card can give you random resets
beyond that you need to conside a couple of other things
Do you want a OS that you can mod the crap out of, install 1000s of apps which may or may not work or do you want an OS that just works, works very quick (with compatible SD card) and less apps but is solid as a rock.
finally do you play multitouch games, if you do dont bother, the HD2 doesnt handle them well, WP7 does, its just our hardware.
its your choice, but all i would say is, IF you have a compatible SD card give it a try for at least a few weeks, really get involved with it, emails, FB, live, exchage, zune etc, if you dont like it after a few weeks then fair doos, most of the folk who slag it dont give it a chance, it is not android, it in not WM, its not iOS, its WP7 an thats what its living up to, nothing else.
read through this thread to give you a hand in seeing if your SD cards will work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171895
there isnt a compatible list but if you run a test on an existing card theres a good chance we can tell before you install it if it will be worth it
When I first got the phone a few months ago i had WP7 on it, so I know the SD card works.
I changed it out for Android, but that was before NoDo or Mango, so i dont even know what improvements are there.
I loved alot of features about it, but it just seemed to be lacking some. I dont know what changes came with Mango or NoDo for it to be worth it.
Battery drain was my biggest issue. With WP7 it seemed like 5 hours and the battery was done.
Since its my primary phone, its alot of work to switch to WP7, and back to android loosing everything in the process. Its a pain to type in all the contacts over and over again.
Just wanted to add one more thing.
99.99% of what I use my phone for is organizational.
With that I mean I use my phone for calendar planning big time.
I currently have my HD2 with android syncing my google calendar to my ical at home and work.
Heres the draw. I wont have my google calendar for much longer, which will leave me with no way to really sync anything from my Mac to my phone.
if there is a solution that WP7 can give me, thats a plus!
Setup a live account, or transfer everything to an exchange account, you shouldnt have to type any contacts, most things can now be transfered quite easily
The calander is pretty good, i use it for my work and personal email, the blue entries are work, orange personal, the To-Do list is really handy.
Nodo brought bugger all, everyone was jumping up an down about the lack of copy and paste so Nodo brought it in, and in all honesty ive maybe used it 3-4 times. Mango will bring a big change, my advice to you is to leave it for a while until a RTM version of mango gets put on our HD2, at the mo its Beta, and Betas always have a bunch of code in it that will slow things down. Hold fire, setup a live account wait for Mango RTM and go for it.
Note that you dont need to change your email address, just use the live account / exchange (pop3) account to bridge your contacts and calanders, it will mean having to sync your live account with your current one, in an ideal world you would use an exchange account or live, that way it just "works" google is actually pretty good too, that can be imported in to it without much hassle as well.
oh the battery should last about a day depending on the state of your battery, i use it a lot and i can just get a day, no more. theres a few tricks you can use to help extend the life.
When is a mango release set? I have a live account. But live can't sync with my ical on my Mac. So it's looking like this may not work for me.

you need a way of exporting it, im not all that clued up on macs but surely they have some way of exporting stuff in to something like a CSV

Sorry guys, I'm new to WP7 and the DVP. I searched and came up with what appeared to be a different language. Let me explain where I'm at. I'm an Android person but needed a new phone and the opportunity arised to try this one so I took it. I like it so far, but I don't really like not being able to drag and drop files. So first I plug in through USB, nothing. Then I read about the ##634# turn on zune mode thing. Did that. Then realized I probably need zune software for music or anything like this.
So I downloaded zune, plugged usb in, at least now it recognizes the drivers. Open zune software, and zune on phone. zune on phone says sync complete right away, thought that was odd. Then zune sw on the PC says no device connected and it needs an update. I click ok for the update and this is where I am stuck now...
"Can't find the media for installation package 'zune WMDU component'. It might be incomplete or corrupt
Anybody know where to go from here? I just want to listen to some music lol.
Update: Now I got it to the point where if I hook the phone up and open up music, it says "sync complete" immediately. Even though it did nothing. Also the zune pc software shows no devices connected but after the "sync complete" message it says zune needs an update. I click ok, then it searches and says I have the latest zune software on my PC.
Is their not a way to just read this thing as a HD so I can just drag and drop music files? I called dell and the lady there was useless.
You can manually drag and drop songs, podcasts etc onto the phone if you prefer. However, this should be done within the Zune software - drop the items from your Zune library onto the phone icon on the bottom left of the screen to do this. (I manually sync songs in this manner. However, I have my podcasts set to update automatically).
p.s. you need to have added your songs etc to Zune before you can sync to your phone.
If your error is not fully resolved, see if the steps in the following article helps:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944938
I don't think I'd be able to do that either. It never says connected in the zune pc software ever. I'm going to try that link right now.
Are you using the beta version of zune?
What OS are you running? all patch and to update? no virus, malware.. etc..
windows update updating more than just windows? it doesn't by defualt. "get updates for other MS products" or something like that should be on you windows update page.

Nope, downloading straight from zune.com Running windows 7 32bit. No virus' or nothing. The update thing, is just zune. Right now, I'm waiting til I get home to try my personal computer. This computer though is 2 weeks old so it shouldn't have any issues and isn't going through a network or anything. And it is updated.
Solved: ok, remember how I said I just got the phone? Well I literally meant about two days lol. I hadn't known that Mango hadn't came out yet. So after Microsoft asks me what version I have, they act strange. Now they were already remotely accessing my desktop so then they ask if I have their devkit. I say nope, and he checks. He asks when I got the phone and how I got the update. I say I had it a few weeks and I got the update ota. Dude even looked in my downloads folder lol. Then he goes, "well I don't know how to tell you this, but I think we accidentally sent you this update prematurely." he apologized. He could tell I had no clue about WP7.
TL;DR
Had mango, didn't know I needed the beta version of Zune. Got it working!
