How to i change to other ROM? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Currently using HTC HD 2 Andriod rom running on nand,
Assuming Ive installed andriod with clockwork recovery and etc, and I would like change my ROM to other versions, how can I do it?
Do I need to delete the current Andriod Rom? and how do i do it? thanks!

Go to Clockwork Recovery.
If your coming from another rom (Miui -> CM7, Sense -> Stock, or any of that matter), wipe cache recommended 3 times, advanced -> Dalvik Cache. When your coming from another rom, it's highly recommended to wipe data too.
If your coming from the same rom (CM7 -> CM7) and want to KEEP your data, then simply wiping cache and Dalvik cache is enough.
To flash a new rom, choose "apply zip from sd card" -> "choose zip from sd card" and simply select the .zip file.
You don't need to delete or anything, Clockwork should overwrite it and your cache should be cleared.

I always do a Nandroid backup using backup and restore in CWM and then do a full wipe of all the partitions data, system, boot, cache, and sd-ext. Then I go to advanced in CWM and woe my Delvik cache, then flash my ROM using install zip from sdcard. When my ROM is done I go to backup and restore and select advanced restore and restore my data and my cache from my Nandroid backup then boot my HD2. I never once have had a issue with any new ROM or my information and settings not being there. You do not want to restore boot or system cause boot is the kernel of your ROM and system is the ROM itself. So if you restored them you still havecthe same ROM.

check ROM thread / instructions, there are a lot of information.
sometimes you need to follow exactly as it says.
cheers

I recommend running a Task 29cand then reflashing MAGLDR and then flash CWM using USB Flasher in MAGLDR then flash your ROM using CWM. Make sure to reformat your SD card before booting up your Android. Easiest way of doing this is to stick your SD card in a adaptor and then into a digital camera then format it with the camera as this will take the funky format that WP7 does to it off. Then use a USB card reader to format it using Fat 32.

just flash android using instructions from your ROM thread.
cheers

Is it possible ?

hey guys,
i have one (very important to me) question.
I´m using MIUI ROMs on my HD2 and as you might know every week a newer version is comming out.
Yesterday i created a knew ext3 partition for my current ROM.
Can i flash the new ROM like an update or something else ? So i don´t have to create a new partition and install all apps again ?.... I am using of course MAGLDR and Clockwork Mod....
I would be glad to get an answer to this ...
Thanksss....
As long as it's just a newer version of the same rom, just go into CWM, go to backup/restore, and make a backup. Then flash the new rom, and then in CWM, go into backup/restore again, and do a custom restore, restoring only data and sd-ext.
Then the only difference you will notice is the new rom, not the loss of apps and data.
To update version of same MiUi Rom:
copy the new ZIP file to SD card.
reboot to recovery
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
DON'T WIPE DATA
Flash the new Zip file.
All your apps are there with the new ROM.

[Q] Crashed now stuck on HTC logo

Running MDJ Gingerbread on NAND and stupidly never made a backup.
I think I cleared the Dalvic cache, and was playing a game when it overheated and froze.
Took out the battery and let it cool, and now it won't get past the HTC logo.
First; can I simply reinstall using Romupdate/Rapitool without losing all my data?
I'm not sure if I have Clockwork recovery, or if I can install it.
Magldr 1.13 says no boot options w/AD Recovery.
Is there any way to backup or access my data?
I'm sorry if there is a simple answer somewhere, I've read so many posts that my head hurts.

Hi,
You need CWM to be installed.Check by powering on the phone and holding the power button when it vibrates.
If MAGLDR opens up,go to 8 ad recovery>backup and restore and make a backup.
Then just try to re-install ROM without wiping anything.
If you cannot get to MAGLDR,check this:
http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-...8-how-make-bootable-cwm-recovery-sd-card.html
to make a backup,then try to re-install magldr,cwm,ROM.
Remember,re-installing magldr will wipe all your data,so try backing up first.
Ran CWM from SD card and tried to backup but I don't have cache partitions so the backup was blank. Installing CWM will erase my data. Is there any other way to backup? Can I convert the rom to CWM update.zip and reinstall without losing everything? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905961

I keep trying to run a different rom from SDcard, but they all stick on the HTC logo. I read somewhere that you cannot use SDcard Android with NAND Android. Is this confirmed?
Is there any way to backup using TTY?

Nand Android not booting thru cwm Recovery

Hey,
I tried installing Android using cwm rec., everything goes well, but the android does not boot, it gets stuck on the booting screen, i tried several time, diff roms, still no results, can any one help me if im missing something? :S
make sure you are removing any leftover stuff from a previous rom on the SD card.
So in CWM, before you go to flash the rom, do a 'wipe data/factory reset' which should clear out the ext partition and the .androidsecure (or whatever its called) folder on the FAT32 partition.
I have done that, but it wont work, i've cleared cache too,
Btw how much time does it take on the first boot?
dont know, sorry, i've never used a sense rom, but i've seen posts referring to a good ten minutes or more, depending on the sd card and teh rom being installed, and how much stuff is moved to sd. Some roms just put just the app and dalvik folders there, some put much much more.
If it were me, i recon id be pulling teh battery at 10 mins.
do you have a 1gb partition on your sd card?
is the partition information for the rom correct?
are you using magldr or clk?
I have Tried wit a 2GB and a 1GB partition, I have Magldr 1.13, The Cwm size is also correct, 400mb for a 300mb rom.

You're absolutely sure the ROM you're trying to use is correct for the type of Android bootloader you have? (clk/magldr)
Did you check the MD5 sum of the rom.zip you downloaded? Maybe you got a bad download.
Did you wipe EVERYTHING? (full wipe, then in advanced, wipe dalvik and cache)
What method did you use to partition your sd card?
For now i Have followed the exact instructions from the DHD Desire rom, and it seems to work, I think the problem was wit the CWM recovery, I downloaded it from the Rom's page and it worked.
When I tried installing another Rom, I encountered the same prob, so I installed recovery again and it worked. Do I have to keep changing the recovery every time I put another Rom?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Yeah, some roms require different partition layouts, which are made when you flash CWM recovery.
If you are going from one rom to another and they both require the same partition layout, or if the new rom you're flashing requires a smaller system partition than your current rom, then you won't have to re-flash CWM. In that case, you'd just have to do a full wipe and then flash ur new rom.
The required/recommended CWM partition size is usually somewhere in the first few posts of the thread you download the rom from.

[Q] Update Paranoidandroid from 1.1a to newest version

Is there a way to make an update from V1.1a to the newest version without a full flash? I wish to avoid a reinstallation of all Apps and settings
I installed 1.2 straight over the top of 1.1 and it worked no problem, all apps and data unaffected.
Otherwise, do a cwm backup, then clean install, then cwm - advanced restore - restore data.
So you have copied the V1.2 Zip-File on the SD card and flashed the version with 'AD recovery' in MAGLDR?
I have flashed v1.4a, from v1.1a .
I did this:
Copied the ROM to my SDCARD, Backed up current ROM (Just in case), wiped dalvik cache, installed ROM, fixed permissions ('cause I installed an a2sd script), rebooted into ROM.
(Took about 17 minutes) at first.
just done a 1.2a to 1.4a dirty upgrade, no backup/restore, just straight over the top, no fix permissions, nothing, , no problems (well, not in first 4 hours anyway)

Is that the item 'wipe cache partition' in MAGLDR in AD Recovery?
In cwm choose advanced and you will see wipe dalvik
Yes, i found it, thanks for your help.
Do you think additional work is to do to erase dalvik because i'm using Link2SD? If you display an app in this program the part 'Dex' seems linked to dalvik and has moved for apps which are stored on the sd card.

Yep, they never left the system, there was no wipe,,,phone running fine, on 1.2, downloaded 1.4 using phone, restarted into cwm, ran the flash, rebooted, done. I wasn't even at home, I was on the train.
Admittedly there isn't a huge amount,, maybe 10 apps, and some data, but there was no setting up to do except for the PAD /PAL stuff,, contccts, wallpaper, shortcuts, loclscreen shortcuts, all exactly as it had been 4 minutes before.

have been doing update just flashing over the existing pa, no problem at all. so answer is yes.

Ok, let me clarify a few things for you:
1- I backed up my ROM (Because I was expecting a bootloop, so I did a BU just in case, it's not necessary if you know your ROM's going to boot.)
2- I wiped dalvik/fixed permissions because I use (amarullz d2ext) which requires a clean dalvik & fixing permission, if you don't use that script, you don't need them.
3- Other than that, you can do just like sam, install the update on top of your current rom and you should be good to go.

Is amarullz comparable with Link2SD, then i must do it in the same manner?
I have tried it before a few minutes, but it fails in a bootscreen with the HTC logo. Android doesn't start.
What i have done:
1) Copied the file paranoidandroid_hd2_v1.4a.zip to the SD card,
2) Enter MAGLDR
3) AD Recovery
4) Wipe Dalvik, fix permissions
5) Install Zip from SD card
6) choose Zip from SD card
7) choose the Zip and confirmed it
I have made a backup so i could restore the system and everything is like before.
Fix permissions AFTER installing the rom. There's nothing to fix until then.

Thanks man for this. When i flash new rom, i did these steps:
Task29
Install Magldr
Partition
Wipe all data/factory reset
Wipe partition cache
Wipe Dalvik cache
Flash ROM
Flash update, addons if nessessary (Do i need reboot before do this step?)
Now i know when use wipe dalvik cache.
I read somewhere about task29 many times make the phone "bad blocks". I did it hundred time when flash new ROM
May i flash new ROM without task29 & install madglr, just do from step 3 above?
Thanks all.

[Q] How to remove NAND Rom and keep SD rom

Hi all,
I previously had a NAND install of android working fine on my device, i did test a SD install in parallel for the few last weeks and i'd like to stay with it.
I setup MAGLDR to boot to my SD Android but i would like to clean the NAND install, do you know how i could do this?
The NAND Rom i'd like to remove: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945425
The SD ROM i'd like to keep: http://nexushd2android.tytung.com/nexushd2-gingerbread/v3-3/download
thanks in advance for your answers,
Nuke everything with task29, install magldr, install the rom you want. You should get the same results using CWM and wiping everything from the menu.

I just have one last question about the impact of the wipes from CWM.
I don't understand which rom will be impacted my the "wipe data/factory reset" from CWM, the NAND rom? the SD? both?
Is there a solution only to wipe the NAND rom and not to touch my SD rom?
thank you again for your help,

I don't feel qualified to talk about this, but here's my understanding. CWM will only mess with your phone storage and remove everything there. The SD rom will stay on your SD card (unless you formated or partitioned that too), so as long as you have magldr set to boot from SD it'll boot the rom you want with nand being gone.
All I know is that if I were in your position, I'd wipe everything, both the card and phone, and just put the rom back again on SD. You can't miss with that. Make sure you backup the stuff you want from your card before you format it, should you decide to do so.

The wipe data/factory reset option will wipe the ROM on your NAND and your SD EXT partition but shouldn't affect your SD ROM. If you're worried then just backup your data.img from your SD ROM to your PC before wiping.
