modifying htc ringtone trimmer for vibrant - Android Software Development

hey i was looking around to see if i could get my old ringtone trimmer app that was on my legend to go on my new vibrant.
i found a link on XDA for someone posting the app and proceeded to install it. to my surpise it said install failed after asking around a bit they said it was because of the trimmer being coded for sense and not touchwiz.
any way my question is since im unable to code (ive tried and fail horibbly) i was wondering if someone had the intentions or would take apon the challange to recode this app to use on other platforms
im running 2.2.1 samsung vibrant (i9000) un modded.
the link to the file is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707328
thanks for any help in advance...

I just ordered my 6800! So many Qs

I just ordered the xv6800, an upgrade from my Treo 650. Upon ordering, my research began (about 6 hours ago!)... It is now about 3 AM, and I am due at work in 4 hours. My questions are simple, and I know I am a noob loser, I know, but if someone could guide me to answers, even a simple answer like search words or anything, I would soooo appreciate it!
Questions/Statements:
Heres my experience level:
For my treo to support a 4gb sd card, way back in the day, I had to edit the rom and change the FAT 16 to FAT 32. There was so many guides on how to update the rom, that it was really childs play, even though I was sweating every step. So basically I know nothing, but I have fiddled.
I want to have the iphone skin/mod/theme or a "cube" theme (god I am a newb). Do I have to modify the rom? Are their any guides?
What is Flashing? Is this the same as unlocking? What is unlocking? (Guides?)
Is setting up VOIP way out of my realm? I saw this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
but since it is not an idiot proof step by step, i got discouraged. What are those pictures all about, is it really as easy as just copying the configurations displayed in the screenshots?
I also want to have:
Slide to unlock (iphone function)
X closes the application (i read somewhere this is a 'must have')
MMS
SMS chat thread (like the treo's, also read somewhere this is a must have)
Another major question: Are mods for the sprint mogul, the alltell version of the phone the same as for the xv6800, or are the processes and such all way different (I am under the impression they are the same, but just checking)
I really think these are some of the basic questions that tons of NOOBS want to ask, but are intimidated to ask on such a knowledgable forum. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to making plenty of paypal donations in the future, again and again and again haha, to all you guys (n girls) that can help pimp my ride errrr, phone.

Welcome to XDA!
The first thing you need to do which would help expand your knowledge of the resource here is to read the General & sticky threads that relate to your application. These threads will branch off and direct you into the direction that you will want to take your device.
There is too much information here to be idealy mapped out; reading & bookmarking will become common practice and as topics, phrases and jargon become familiar, so will your speed in finding, installing and customizing...
Hello, i just want to say that it was a good move u made from switchin from 650 to 6800, i did it from 700wx to 6800. i would recommend first to check ur rom version and if it is not the newest rom which is 2.17, u might wanna check the customs roms out there or update it before staring messin with the custom apps because it happened to me, i had an old one and I installed a but of apps n then the new rom came up and it messed me up so i had to do a hard reset.
As for the cube, search keywords like cube, htc touchflo, htc apps, you might also like;
htc touch skins: touch skins
htc home plugin: Lets u mess with the htc home screen
phm reg: for all the manual reg edits and minimal hacks that r not on .cab
hidevista: cool top app with replaces the old START and adds a baterry metter
flashlight: self exp
LED Killer 3.1: to kill that DAMN BLINKIN LIGHT!
pimp backup: lets u back up ur contacts, task, calendar met, sms, mms, etc sprite backup: ($) lets u backup ur whole ppc
oxios hibernate: It helps u realease mem n make it a bit faster
oxios closeapps: Lets u close the apps instead of minimizin them,
TCPMP n Flash Bundle: lets u watch youtube, video.google, n more, fullversion MMS: A must, to send pic mail
PCMcontacts: iphone contacts like
PCMkeyboard: bigger better
threaded sms: self exp,
2slide2unlock: lock app like the iphone.
WkTASK: keeps tabs of open apps next to the START buttom, like windows tabs
total commander: another reg edit soft.
google maps: self exp
UI Tweaker: lets u customize all the colors in the ppc.
All of the above u can find it here in the forums or google search, n the best of all THEY ARE FREE! Enjoy and dont be afraid to ask around, i learned that there are no "stupid questions" if you do some research first instead of just go straight to questions cause u r to lazy to search and read.
Hope this helps.

Verizon doesn't have a 2.17 ROM out. That is only for Sprint. There are custom ROMS for Verizon devices that use some of the 2.17 drivers.

good point, forgot to mention that, the ROM 2.17 is only for sprint, and like blazingwolf said, there are custom ROMs for almost all carriers. Thanks blazingwolf for the missed point..

eagerly waiting for my HD2 have some questions

Hi I sold my telstra touch hd and briefly went to google for a month and had the droid. It was a fair phone and had a great UI and i liked certain things such as google navigation the handcent sms, google voice. However certain deal breakers started to arise, I could not surf the internet and talk on the phone at the same time, there was no sirius radio application, the soft keyboard was terrible, the mms still needed work, i missed copy and paste, i didnt like all the "green" that was everywhere, no decent attractive music player. Anyhow I went promptly back to ATT and ordered the hd2 telstra. I know how to hard spl my phone put in roms etc, my questions are:
1. what is the most commonly used navigation software for winmo or what is the best to use with the hd2? I have been searching but can't seem to pick one, is there a cab around here? is it already bundled with hd2?
2. what roms are being offered that do no include htc messaging? I seem to have only found one. Does anyone know which chefs there are that offer this? i went on htc pedia and it seems like miri and dutty dont offer this removal yet for hd2.
3. is there a voice to text cab available much like google 2.1's voice to text?
4. i want to install facebook panel onto the hd2 and i think i found a thread that tells you how, or does anyone have a tutorial?
5. google just released a web app for iphone for their google voice, has anyone tried this web app on their hd2? or what is the best gv dialer to use at the moment?
6. is pandora now available for hd2?
i think thats it your help is most appreciated, please dont attack me if these are similar questions asked before, i did go over the forum and searched thank yu
is there anyone that can help

You can just remove it yourself. That's what I did.

I don't know if the "Oz" version comes with it but in the UK it comes with a trial version of Co-Pilot as part of the rom although its not that hard to add other apps instead of this...at the moment Igo,Tomtom,GarminXT and Navigon seem to be the most popular add ons (tried them all myself and TT's winning for me so far as I'm pretty familiar with it although I do like the "live" services you get with Garmin )

i read about that however if you remove it you lose the mms functionality and they havent figured out how to put that back, im looking for a rom where the chef got rid of it themselves and its just the pocket outlook sms with mms as well
can anyone else answer my questions?

What do I do with my PPC 6700

I bailed out on my sprint account years ago. I've been able to cruise the wireless net where hot, but what else can I do with the phone.
Is there any hope of reactivation or even selling the unit
Has anyone successfully flashed an android o/s on it ?

I have the same issue with an Alltel version of the HTC Innovation, PPC6700.
Can it be revived anywhere?
Im working on putting the android system on mine and hoping to remove the phone applications and use it as a media player. Im not too sure what else I can use it for.
I am planning to use it as an in-car mp3 player.
For now I will just use the windows 6.5 that is on it.. but it would be nice to get android or a base linux distro working on it. I want it to offer windows networking (samba) so that I can just drag songs on to it from inside my house.
I'm actually a bit excited to put it to good use. I currently just use it for windows phone development (testing).
I too just unearthed two of them & put the tinkerbell 6.5 ROM on both of em. Needed to do some in-building antenna troubleshooting and they worked GREAT! I had wanted to make them little video players for the kiddos, but i'm afraid they'll dial 911. So for now, they sit patiently on my desk.
Do you have any info on the tinkerbell ROM?

[Q] Modifying the Froyo 2.2SE

Hey All,
Not been around for ages since i had my o2xda many moons ago...
Had my hero a while and got the dredded memory leak and thought as im going to reflash is might as well mod and root it..
Runing the froyo 2.2 Se and it runs flaylessly
however theres a few features i miss from the stock 2.1
Smart dial - where you type the persons name in using the key pad and it finds the contact.. what dialer is this and how easy would it be to switch to this..
Facebook contact link - i liked having my contacts linked with their FB accounts.. is this due to the modded FB app on froyo 2.2 or is it a feature removed from the rom / contact app its self
and finally, whats the best way about building my own roms and so forth, i assume there some guides about on the forum but being a htc hero user only i have only been looking in this section
Many thanks

[Q] KinOne mp3 question

Hey guys, I'm a relatively new member to this site and joined recently when I began looking into rooting my Droid Eris. However my girlfriend and myself have been trying to figure out her KinOne and if it's possible to use mp3 files as ringtones or not. I haven't been able to find anything online and I am not too familiar with the phone myself. And is it possible to do anything with the phone without using Zune? I could not find the drivers for the phone online. Any help would be appreciated.

No you can not use mp3's on the phone as ringtones. You can however send ringtones to your phone via e-mail/text message. You NEED the zune software to access any multimedia on the device. You do not need any drivers as they are installed when you install the Zune software. Hope I helped.
Thanks for the reply, that helps quite a bit. I'm still trying to figure out the phone, but to be honest, I'm not a big fan of it. But I guess that would be why it is her's and not mine. Thanks again, though.
