I just ordered the xv6800, an upgrade from my Treo 650. Upon ordering, my research began (about 6 hours ago!)... It is now about 3 AM, and I am due at work in 4 hours. My questions are simple, and I know I am a noob loser, I know, but if someone could guide me to answers, even a simple answer like search words or anything, I would soooo appreciate it!
Questions/Statements:
Heres my experience level:
For my treo to support a 4gb sd card, way back in the day, I had to edit the rom and change the FAT 16 to FAT 32. There was so many guides on how to update the rom, that it was really childs play, even though I was sweating every step. So basically I know nothing, but I have fiddled.
I want to have the iphone skin/mod/theme or a "cube" theme (god I am a newb). Do I have to modify the rom? Are their any guides?
What is Flashing? Is this the same as unlocking? What is unlocking? (Guides?)
Is setting up VOIP way out of my realm? I saw this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
but since it is not an idiot proof step by step, i got discouraged. What are those pictures all about, is it really as easy as just copying the configurations displayed in the screenshots?
I also want to have:
Slide to unlock (iphone function)
X closes the application (i read somewhere this is a 'must have')
MMS
SMS chat thread (like the treo's, also read somewhere this is a must have)
Another major question: Are mods for the sprint mogul, the alltell version of the phone the same as for the xv6800, or are the processes and such all way different (I am under the impression they are the same, but just checking)
I really think these are some of the basic questions that tons of NOOBS want to ask, but are intimidated to ask on such a knowledgable forum. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to making plenty of paypal donations in the future, again and again and again haha, to all you guys (n girls) that can help pimp my ride errrr, phone.

Welcome to XDA!
The first thing you need to do which would help expand your knowledge of the resource here is to read the General & sticky threads that relate to your application. These threads will branch off and direct you into the direction that you will want to take your device.
There is too much information here to be idealy mapped out; reading & bookmarking will become common practice and as topics, phrases and jargon become familiar, so will your speed in finding, installing and customizing...
Hello, i just want to say that it was a good move u made from switchin from 650 to 6800, i did it from 700wx to 6800. i would recommend first to check ur rom version and if it is not the newest rom which is 2.17, u might wanna check the customs roms out there or update it before staring messin with the custom apps because it happened to me, i had an old one and I installed a but of apps n then the new rom came up and it messed me up so i had to do a hard reset.
As for the cube, search keywords like cube, htc touchflo, htc apps, you might also like;
htc touch skins: touch skins

LED Killer 3.1: to kill that DAMN BLINKIN LIGHT!
pimp backup: lets u back up ur contacts, task, calendar met, sms, mms, etc sprite backup: ($) lets u backup ur whole ppc
oxios hibernate: It helps u realease mem n make it a bit faster
oxios closeapps: Lets u close the apps instead of minimizin them,

Verizon doesn't have a 2.17 ROM out. That is only for Sprint. There are custom ROMS for Verizon devices that use some of the 2.17 drivers.

good point, forgot to mention that, the ROM 2.17 is only for sprint, and like blazingwolf said, there are custom ROMs for almost all carriers. Thanks blazingwolf for the missed point..

Ok, I have my Wing and im running touch it... its cool but this device is still slow... i have it over clocked and pagepooled... my brother has 8125 and its so much faster and i started to think that it was something wrong with my phone... Is anyone else having this problem? imean i touch the screen and it does not respond in realtime it sometimes takes up to 3 or 4 seconds... when writing messages it takes forever its just got to the point where it is very irritating... is there anything i can do to get my wing up to par where it wont seem sooooo slow?
Im not sure. Im overclocked and have pagepool at 6 and mine runs pretty quick.
Sounds like you may be overclocking it a little too far. Try lowering the OC and see if that helps.
Try installing a new Rom.
My T-mobile Wing used to be EXTREMELY slow with the stock T-mobile Rom on there ... it would always freeze and give me that little round hourglass thing all the time for the dumbest crap ... like checking new SMS msgs...but the moment I installed the PDAVIET v14 rom on there, the difference in speed was instantaneous. Afterwards, I installed batterystatus and overclocked it to 273mhz, and it runs like a charm. Installing the PDAVIET rom was the best thing I ever did, and I don't know how I survived this long without it!
^^^ thanks... how did you ever get v14 to install? i thought there were problems getting it onto the wingand it was missing programs...
My friend helped me do it, so unfortunately I don't have the exact process. From my understanding, you have to get past the CID check in order to install it since it's not an official tmobile rom.
Yeah mine is kinda slow too, do you really recomend installing that Touchflow thing (i dont know much about anything, just got my wing yesterday).

TouchFlo is just a specific application that's originates from the HTC Touch device... but people have ported it over into Rom's built for most htc devices.
Here is a demo of the touchflo, so you can see what it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ8TQ9Rr_7E
The touchflo cube itself is pointless to me ... it's just something that came out to make it 'prettier' and IMO it's just a gimic aimed towards the iPhone. I DO like that you can scroll now without the use of the scrollbars... and I wouldn't be able to live without that now that I have it.
I DO reccommend installing a 3rd party Rom on your phone, and you currently have the option of 2 roms.
There are other roms out there, but you want to make sure you install one that is specifically made for the wing, bc if you don't you're going to run into problems such as, the keys on the keyboard not lining up. The Tmobile wing is the HTC "atlas" which is a variant of the HTC Herald. The keyboard on the Wing (atlas) is different than the one of the herald, so when you start using certain keys/symbols, you get something else.
There are currently 2 3rd party Roms that are made specifically for the Wing , and they are
Touch-IT
and
PDAVIET
I am currently running the PDAVIET v14 rom and you will be surprised as to how much faster your wing will run just by installing a NON tmobile rom.... on top of that, you can overclock your wing with a program called batterystatus which will overclock the processor from the default 201 to whatever you want. Suggestion, Dont' overlock to more than 273-286 or so, bc your wing will crash.... but you can find some posts on this site where users discuss their clocking speeds.

The Touch-IT rom final just got released today, and is available for download here.
Touch-IT for The Wing Full and Lite Ed.
I am actually in the middle of installing this Rom as I am typing, but I have heard really good things about it ... so I am anxious to try it out.
I suggest you take a look at Tyler's guide to Wing Modding.
Newbies Guide to Herald
and also take a look at the Herald WIKI page which may help answer a lot of questions you may have.

Hey Duprade,
Since I ran into a lot of problems bricking/unbricking the last time that I installed a new rom, I don't want to rush through it this time. I am kind of in the middle of the two roms that you said earlier, the touch_it and the pdaviet 14. Could you update us with your experience with both and which one you recommend personally. i am kind of leaning towards the pdaviet since i don't want some programs that come with the touch_it but i would like to hear someone more experiences comments comparing them as well. thanks in advance.... by the way my device is locked does that mean that i can not install the pdaviet v14 i thought the issue was resolved?
Totaly Lost Man! Help!!!!
I am currently running the PDAVIET rom. I was experimenting with the Touch-IT rom, but I am used to the PDAVIET rom and since I use my phone for work and all my work correspondence comes directly to my phone, I have to have it in working order at all times.
I would reccommend that you install both ROMs and test them both out to see which one you like best, because until you try them, you won't know which one YOU will like best.
If you follow the link I posted for the PDAVIIET rom, just follow the directions for the installation that I posted.
The Touch-IT rom installs using the ASERG method, which you can find the directions on installing it when you download the necessary files.
Okay, without flashing a new rom, and having to reinstall all my programs (speaking of that, Sprite backup didn't work for me, different story-comments?)
Is there any way to speed it up? Disable startup processes?
I've had to reset mine about 2-5 times in 48 hours...P I E C E O F C R A P...(not really a POS, just pissing me off)

there has always been probelms with this program, a shame cuz I heard they implemented a new feature allowing you to restore even after switching roms
Is there any way to speed it up? Disable startup processes?
for sure, just navigate to \windows\startup...a simple search of what is in that folder will let you know what you use and what you can delete.

A new favourite tool of mine since having the herald is sktools. I never really used it before but there is an application associated with sktools that allows you to imitate hibernation of the device which will bring your program memory to just below what it was after boot up.
hope that helps....maybe one day i'll even make a vanilla rom (hopefully someone will make one quiker) so that these problems with it becoming slow disappear.
cheers
Now the recent problem I've been having is that when the device slows down, and freezes up, it unfreezes and theres a part of the screen that seems to be "stuck" in every app I use, until I restart...WtF?
EDIT: Oh, and SKTools looks good, but I'm not paying for programs. I'm broke just from buying the Herald
Ok...so i have done quite a bit of reading on this forum for the past couple months. I purchased a Wing from tmobile and absolutly love it. I have since then changed to the touchflo rom and installed the battstatus and it runs like a champ, couldnt ask for more.
hey i'm new to this stuff and i tried installing a new rom but my phone is now bricked i believe, anyway to unbrick it?
That's why you are a real gem of this place. I see you always answer people's questions (many answers could be found by a simple search) promptly and patiently, including mine.
I'm waiting to get a good deal on a 4gb+ memory card, then I will try to install the PDAVIET rom, looks thrilling to me.
Thanks bro!! If you are in the same city as mine (Milwaukee), I'd buy you drinks.

Regarding your Rom, I'd actually suggest trying out ITJE's TouchIT 2.3 over the PDAVIET Rom at this time.

Samsung SCH-i760 ROM
**UPDATE 03/10/08**
I have found some useful tools to help me accomplish this, but still have some things left to find. Any help would be awesome, first I need a way to find what I can remove (useless files that take up space) and most importantly where I should to start to make this work. I'm pretty sure the forums will be closed later today, so if you could email if your able to assist me I would appreciate it!
What do you think?
Hey everybody, I've been browsing this forum numerous times in the past couple of weeks looking to customize my i760 and haven't found much on it for upgrading it's performance. It seems that not many users have this phone, so I'm thinking of creating a ROM for this device.
It will probably take me some time, being this will be my first time creating anything for a PPC.
I'm asking for some help for this:
a) From fellow i760 users to get some input on what might be the best items for the ROM.
b) Also from advanced users on the best way to approach this creation.
All help will be very much appreciated.
I'd like to have some contribution to this forum, seeing how my phone has been completely customized from developers on this site. Big Thanks to all of you out there whos software I am using! You all have done a great job, I appreciate your time and hard work for it.
What are your all's thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance.
Any question you can email me @ jtisr241 @ aim dot com.

I had the i760. I got rid of it because of the lack or roms.
And Your are right there are no roms out there, its not because people dont have it, but its something with the way Samsung makes their roms. It's not as flexible with as the HTC devices.
Thanks for the info, I still have a ton of research to do before I look into the development, I'll keep that in mind hopefully I can find a way around it.

I'm not sure what compatibility the ROM will have, another thing I'm learning.
I would love to see a rom that does not include the d-day and all the get it now and vzw branded software there under WM6.1 with the threaded MMS of 6.1 and the Palm threaded SMS. But, that is just a pipe dream, so I will settle for just a software update.
Thank you for your effort sir.

Thanks, that's what I hear, hopefully once I figure out all the odds and ends to ROM's I can better understand how this is configured.
I second the vote for a rom that does not have the "extra" garbage including that useless picsel browser thing. An end button deactivator (comes in handy to "accidentally" hang up on the wife, but most of the time it's a pain in the ass), a built-in S2U2-like app, built-in touchscreen inteface (ifonz-like I guess). Overclocking.
Overall better memory use, power use, touchscreen use, end deactivator (tried AE, it hated my i760!!)
Update: Oh you know what I'd really like to see - one touch access to contacts, then particular category. The thing I miss most from my cell phone is pressing one button which calls up MY contact list, not the thousands of contact in Outlook. So to recap press a soft key, get the personal contacts list category.
what is the good word?
yea there's def. not a ton of support for the i760; but i've heard that there will be an update to wm6.1 for it so that should satisfy alot of us owners if its true
I hope theres a 6.1 Rom!!
I hear there is and Verizon will have it for download for the i760 on there web site when they finish there part of it.

760 for High speed Internet Bluetooth connection
Hey does anyone have any luck using the 760 as a celluar modem? I am using PDANet to open the profile and I connect without issue but I can only stay connected for a very short time usually less then one minute.
I have also been all over this site and I am looking for a ROM and there does not seem to be much of anything available for this device. Has anyone had any success with the ROM or any update that would let me use this device reliably with my laptop. I am not sure if it is Verizon or a setting on the phone but it is killing me.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Todd
I just ordered a i760 so i can help.
i say no iphone interface, its not that good i dont see why people want to copy it.
Alright, it seems there won't be an update anytime soon from Verizon, so I'll try to get something accomplished here, it seems all I do is work sometimes. Anyways, I'm still messing with apps and plugins to see what I want to build here. As soon as I can figure which I want I'll post the news.
Any suggestions on what should be included?

i760 Rom Dump
@ TheChampJT
I've been watching this thread for a bit now. At the same time I have been digging deep into my i760.
I was finally able to use itsutils (from here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/tools.html ) to run the following commands without errors:
pdocread
pmemmap
pmemdump 0x80000000 0x02000000 rom.nb
That last one gave me a 32Mb file obviously titled "rom.nb". I was feeling all uber l33t until I realized I have no clue what to do now. I am trying to decompile the file I dumped with the perl script that Willem (aka itsme) posted on his RAPI tools site. I am trying to compile the perl script in WinXP, because that's the OS I dumped the rom.nb file with. Should I boot into linux (fedora 8 or Backtrack3beta is all I got) to run the perl script? I haven't tried much of anything with it yet because I just dumped the rom.nb file late last night. However, any advice would be much appreciated.
I think my i760 is CID unlocked, because the first time I tried to run pdocread I got an error that said "Have you CID or application unlocked your device?". When I was able to run pdocread, I assumed I had somehow CID unlocked my device. But I have no way to tell for sure whether its CID unlocked or not. Its not like there's a popup window on the i760 that says "You've CID unlocked you device!!" So that's my second question, how do I know if I CID unlocked my device?
I've been hacking away at this for a solid 12days now Well, more like a month or so. I always peek into my new toy's registry as soon as I get it and make a few changes here and there to see what happens. I've run the Windows Mobile Security Configuration Tool and set my profile's security to "off". I made some changes to the reg entries under the policies entry. I've also done the whole **33284 then set to DM then reboot and set data connection to Modem Through USB, connected my i760 and installed the drivers for the Samsung modem in that mode (they are different from the MCCI drivers and modem set up). As you can probably tell, I operate on a "try a small hack, then see what happens, repeat" basis.
So that's where I'm at right now. Probably TMI for you, or anyone else reading this, but I am trying to put out as much info/knowledge as I can.
Obviously I am willing to help get a working, easy to use, cooked rom. Let me know if you want any of the files I have pulled off my device or any of the tools or dll's that I have found on the web, or any of the print outs I got from the itsutils cmd line tools.

Alqui
You can PM me here at XDA or over at PDAPhoneHome, that is unless you think I'm a total ****tard, then don't PM me anywhere.

I am a new pure user and I am looking to "customize" the phone...
I am completely new to this and I don't even know where to start...
Help?
I'd use the phone for a few days and figure out exactly what you like and don't like about it and then post what you want to change. Customize is a pretty general term but we'll be able to help you if you have specific wants.
BTW, is Dillybar a Dairy Queen treat?
lol - my last name is Dillard... so my friend who LOVES dairy queen nicknamed me dilly bar
Anywho - I have had the pure for a couple weeks... The only thing I absolutely want to keep on the phone is the voice command... I won't be too upset if anything else goes into hiding with a new rom or anything...
I'm fine with it how it is, but I just want to try some different things... The voice command staying is really my only requirement though
is it possible to get adobe flash player on a pure?
I was trying to watch the Disney princess videos on youtube with my daughter this AM and I couldn't install flash... she was disappointed
Bro,
Start first by searching and reading.
There are so many possiblities but it is important that you know what you are doing first.
Read "Flashing for newbies", then read through a few cooked ROM threads and see what the bugs are and what is offered in the ROM.
Mostly, a cooked ROM will be ready with everything you need other than personal tastes.
Also, almost any question you may have has already been asked and answered so search and read.....
On the stock ATT ROM, there is a youtube application built-in, its just hiding. Just go to the file explorer, find the youtube program(should be called you tube) tap and hold, then copy into start menu folder inside windows folder. If not, try the official youtube application, or youtubeplay. As for general customization, just look around in the forum. Check the blackstone and rhodium forums, too.
A really good place to visit is the Development and Hacking forums. Thats where all the application updates, user made programs, and program tweaks reside.
I wouldn't really flash to a custom rom quite yet. Custom roms can sometimes require a little more windows mobile experience. When you are ready to flash custom roms, you'll have to do it in 2 steps initially. The first step is called HardSPL, which only needs to be done once. It unlocks your phone to allow custom roms. Then pick your poison. I would recommend Dutty's roms as they seem pretty clean and straight forward.
Hi all,
Yeeeah, so the Leo was finally announced at the major/best 3G network in Denmark, the worldwide operator "3". And thats awesome, so of course I hit my wallet and cashed out and got the phone yesterday. Brilliant.
Got the phone in my hand, my god, its beautiful and all, its my first PDA phone so I'm very noobish and overwhelmed by everything, but I'm lovin' it so far! Okay, well I started looking around on the big www and came across this fantastic site and now I'm thinking, I wanna get involved with this shizzle and start cooking - or at least start looking at the menu!!
But I realize that I don't know anything about how to do all this, so started looking around in the Leo Wiki, Tips and Tricks sticky and so on but I feel that its all very comprehensive and I simply don't know where to start, and I don't think the (otherwise awesome) guides are as extensive as could, at least not for my understanding. I haven't come across a newb forum/thread where all the very, very basics are introduced/discussed, so I'm thinking: any noobs out there? or post-noobs? who wanna share some of their mighty wisdom and experience with me? (yeah, I want some Leo-friends)
Okay, so I found a few things I wanna try:
From Leo hints and tricks sticky:
7. Get the old Task Manager Back
To be able to really close programs using the X instead of just 'minimizing' the program and leaving it in memory,
install Duttys HTC Task Manager (attached below), restart and the X is back. Also in Settings you can configure its function.
8. Add Task Manager to Home Screen Quick Links
Copy the hidden TaskMgr.exe file from your Windows folder to your Start Menu/Programs folder. Now it's possible to place a shortcut on your Manila today and you can open/close running programs with ease.
So how do I install this dutty cab? I mean I downloaded it, but where do I unpack it, and how do I run it on my phone?
Okay, next thing:
The location on "my today" is wrong, I saw in the tips and tricks that a lot of users had issues with this, but how can that be? There isn't any way to fix it, cause mine is showing that i'm about 15 clicks away from where I really am, but the navigator works fine? :S
3rd thing:
My network only provided me with a 2gb sdhc card, so if I want to tuck in a 16gb baby how will it work because the OS is stored on the sdhc card, or is it only in the ROM?
Another thing, I see the ROM upgrade from the danish HTC website is newer than the one installed on my phone, but do you think that I should upgrade to the 1.6 which is leaked here, or should I start with the HTC official rom from the website?
WARNING: some danish might appear when clicking here (this is the danish HTC ROM link, look at bottom of page)
I have about a zillion other questions, but my mind is empty right now. I really hope that I'm not out of line when posting this topic, and I hope to hear from some friendly HTC lovers Please let me know if this topic is not appropriate and I'll edit/delete it. (yes I did read the RULES)

Welcome and Hello
I`ll take 5 minutes to write a reply seeing as no one else can be bothered.....
Welcome to the forum, you`ll find all you need here, My advise would be to READ READ READ , and if you have any questions SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH, you`ll get flamed if you post something thats been posted before, even though if you do post, it moves from the first 2 pages so fast hence no answers......
16gb sd card will work fine,
Read carefully the goldcard method for updating ROMS and only if you feel confident enough would i recomend it...I`ve flashed 1.61 no issues....

Hi WildL,
I understand the noob feelings. Although this site has a wealth of information, it's not the noob friendliest place.
.cab files are like .exe files for your pc. You don't unpack it anywhere, simply copy/download to your device and run (click on it through file manager) it from where ever you saved it. It will unpack itself and install. Your only option generally is to install directly onto your device or onto your SD card.
Not sure on the location thing as I haven't experienced it.
For your SD card, there is nothing on there you have to worry about. The ROM is stored on the device and the card is simply additional storage. Feel free to shove a new one in there.
As for changing ROMs. As a noob, stick to stock updates for now. You're on the newest device with all the newest features so custom roms won't offer much except little tweaks (but the phone is fast enough already) and additional apps you can just install yourself. Some MAY be more stable but current it's not worth the risk of bricking your device. Read read read and when you feel comfortable and think your ready, then start looking into cooked roms.
Good luck!

I'd recommend you use this instead...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
It means you have the X which you can configure to close apps or minimize them (you can open settings for it by tapping it on the sense ui and going to the wrench). You can also list open apps from the sense ui by clicking it and simply switch to or close anything in the list. Have a play - it's the best all-round solution.

At least your location works! lol
It uses your provider's network to get your location - not GPS. It's always going to be within a mile or 2. Since it's only meant for general info, it doesn't really matter much. I doubt the weather 2 miles down the road is much different than it is where you are

The SD card is purely for storage. You can take it out and the phone will still function properly. This obviously changes if you install software on the card. Unfortunately, the HD2 has a pitiful amount of internal storage memory, so I'd actually recommend using the card to install stuff on. With this in mind, I got myself a 16GB SD card and use that, treating it as if I'll never remove it. I'd obviously recommend this, cos it's what I do

If your phone is pretty new and you've not done much setting up, it's probably the best time to make sure you've got the most up-to-date ROM. If you got the phone from a provider then you can officially only upgrade using ROMs that they supply. If you got it completely SIM free, then you can use the HTC ones that are out there. The current new one (1.61) is actually an official HTC one, so it will be as risk free as flashing a ROM can ever be. It's just not officially released yet. (I believe HTC "leak" their ROMs so that this community can beta test for them, before they release to the general public, but that's just my belief )
Since the phone is still so new though, I don't really think that it makes much difference. The ROM upgrades seem to be doing so little at the minute that you may well not notice any benefits.
Either way, if it's official, you've at least got some comeback if it bricks your new phone!
Basically, this is just a preference. Do what you think feels right. Just bear in mind that a ROM flash means a hard reset, which means setting EVERYTHING up again, from scratch.

Hello guys ,
I bought new HTC HD2 today. I am using symbian all my life and switched to Windows mobile now . I am slowly trying to adopt to it.
I dont understand terms like "Rom" , " Custom Roms" , "Rom update" , .I see them every where ...
Can a hard core WM user help me understand what these terms mean .
Thanks
Davie
First of all a ROM is what the phone runs ie, WM (windows mobile 6.5, 6.5.x)
custom ROM is something a chef on here or other various sites, has taken the ROM and made it better the way they like it and made it available for everyone else to use,
ROM updates are usually put out by the networks for stock ROM's i.e. what came on the phone first, have a read in the ROM section thread to get more knowledge.
and this is a very helpful thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
oh and please just use a normal font it will still be answered lol
Like you I came from a symbian device to an HD2 (about 6 months ago) and the only way to get to grips with it is just by reading through the forums endlessly, the best place to start is the wiki and the sticky threads in the various forums. It might be hard to find what your looking for sometimes but trust me anything you'll ever need to know is on here somewhere.
I think you'll be glad you made the switch.........
Happy reading

Thank u for the quicker response !!! I think its prety much like installing another OS everytime I switch to a new Rom . Pls correct if I am wrong.
Also I believe Stock Rom is what I get with the phone itself when I buy and is it possible for me to switch back to the stock rom from a custom rom. And will i be able to install a stock rom update on the custom rom .
thank u
you can still enjoy a lot your device without paying too much attention to these terms. just play around with it and install apps that you like. there are lots of apps here and in other websites. some of them for free. one of my these websites is www.freewarepocketpc.net. just make sure that the apps you install have the same resolution as your device, i.e. wvga. and as suggested, browse through the forums and you'll learn a lot.
welcome to the wm world!

You basically have 2 flavours, 6.5 which more than likely came as standard (Stock) where the start button is on the top left, and 6.5.x where the start button is on the bottom left where most of the custom ROM's are 6.5.x (not all though). yes you can put a stock ROM back on after custom ROM but you wont lol its that simple you will prob just flash (install a new ROM) to something else like the rest of us, the stock ROM updates are not needed on custom ROM's as there all upto date, and the chefs's(the people who create them) are often updating them.
as joshzzz2001 said you can use that website for all your free apps its a very good site and there is also a mobile app, so you can browse on your cell,
All i will say though is if you do Flash make sure you have read through and understand it all, once you have read it and wanna ask a question to double check people are good enough to help but its the people that dont read and fully understand that will screw up, once you have read its a piece of cake.
I know what you mean, it all seems hellishly complicated if your not used to it. Like the guy above said just start installing things and getting to grips with the basics, if theres one thing I would advise its that you reguarly backup your settings/data.
Get microsoft myphone from the marketplace, there are other more in depth backup apps out there but myphone will do the basics. Its quite likely that once you get hooked on tweaking your phone (and you will) that you might have to hard reset (factory reset). I've lost count of how many times I've had to do this. Mainly due to my own lack of knowledge
Its worth it though.... lol
Edit;
Forgot to mention this, Cookies Home Tab.
Absolutely fantastic app for customising your home screen, a must have for any HD2 if you ask me, well worth looking into!

like what lol? cookies home tab will let you change near enough the whole of the main screen, in the themes and apps section you can get different clocks, wallpapers, etc, you just have to have a look around this leo section mate, may take you a few days to figure it all out but its a great forum and loads of stuff on here, to do anything, if you look through this thread you can see what can be done
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582619
do you have the 1024MB ROM?? use this thread = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
if you have 512MB use this thread = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
if you not sure, slide the slider all the way to the end and scroll down to the bottom and click on about phone then hardware information, and look at flash size that is the ROM size then start reading either thread

I have been trying to figure out what is HSPL , SPL ,SSPL and OSPL
What is the differnce
Could u help me with that ...
Thanks
this is where you will get me lol, right hspl is hard sspl is soft, i think and dont quote me but hspl is only needed once its needed for custom roms, you need hspl or sspl to be able to install a custom tom, what you have to do though is work out which model you have i edited my post look up, once you no thar there is 2 links you will need 1 of them and then it will near enough talk you straight through.
ok just realised the 2 links above i posted if you look at post number 2 in either of them it explains hspl and sspl
u r help ful my friend ...Thank u ..
if your on t mobile in the uk i'd reccomend the rom update thats available on the htc site (if your gonna stick with the stock rom) Its a lot less buggy. If your in the US then ignore this!

All the us version T-mobile devices have 1024MB roms.
SPL (secondry program loader aka the boot loader) is basically the bios of the phone. The SSPL is the soft secondry program loader and the OSPL is the original secondry program loader (ie the stock spl). HSPL is the hard (or hacked) secondry program loader and this is required to install custom roms. There are 2 versions of this (hspl and hspl2) the second is applicable to all devices including tmous devices and is recommended. if you want to use hspl, use the same hspl version as your ospl. The ospl/hspl can be upgraded but i havent done this. There is also another application that may interest to you and that is customruu. This allows you to update the radio firmware for your device to a newer version. This has advantages such as better effiency for the GSM, wifi and bluetooth chips thus extending the battery life.
Most of the cooked roms out there are based on the tmous (T-mobile US) 2.10 and above roms. These are WM 6.5.3 and 6.5.5 based and feature better finger support. They also feature seveal fixes including an updated camera driver to fix the camera flash over exposure problem.
I, personally, prefer to stay with the stock roms and tweak them as i don't take many night photos and speed for me is the main thing. You can do this by runnning through the 2 tweaks sticky threads and with the help of phm registry editor. On the speed front there are (for me atleast) a couplel programs that are must haves. These are, netrippers LCS and chainfires 3D gfx driver. Combined with the performance tweaks these eliminate the lag of the stock UI and go as far as making it very fluid and responsive.
I hope this helps
M3PH
there are three hspl versions, not two.
the tmous (t mobile usa hd2, the one with 1024 rom) has its own variant of hspl2, usually referred to as hspl1024.
you said you were on t mobile but not which tmo. is very important to distinguish between tmous and all the others. if it IS a tmous then you need to be really sure about the pitfalls before you flash.if you have a normal hd2 (512 flash size in settings about phone hardware info) then things couldn't be simpler. hspl 2 then any rom you like.
is handy to have your country flag and carrier logo on in your profile, as that can usually tell us which phone you likely have.
