No solution for you just letting you know I have had the same problem it stutters for a second then continued :-/
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk

Same here. It stops for a second or two. Then it continue recording.
But not all the time.

i have the same problem here

I was recording a clip about 3-4 mins into recording it hanged and continued then hanged again this time fatally as I had to force close the camera app. however i did not lose the footage ....

Same here but with no freeze. I have ever record for 12 minutes.

Is this unsolved promblem??

Could it be sdcard related maybe??
Sent from my X10a using XDA App

I had this issue to but it solved it by itself. what i think is ram related not SD i have a class6 SD card. now i kill often all apps and have no lag anymore. i think this is why HC put more ram in the phones and why nexus s doesn't record 720p.
ps: when it lagged the sound was off on the playback.

when i record, it has a momentary glitch after about 5 seconds, for about half a second then carries on recording, happens every time.

Yes I can also confirm that after recording a 720p film I get 2-3 short stutters on playback. Going to try again with auto focus and sound turned off.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App

I have similar problem too. 38s video recording seems fine, but I couldn't do playback. Then when I try to force-playback the video, it went silent after 10 seconds mark.

I have the same video recording glitch problem too..

Only got a slight pause when there was a lot of motion in the clip. If the subjects were stationary without much background movement, there's no stuttering while recording.

hi.. I am part of a uk test lab that SE have set up.. I have raised this issue with them and I'm awaiting a response.. might be a week or two though as it goes via their products director. commodoor - your point about memory makes sense..the app probably needs tweaking to reserve more memory when it starts, or when HD video recording is activated.

Woww it seems to work.. with image stablizer off in video mode, no glitch or any problem with video recording Thanks General Grant

Nope... even after turning off image stabilizer, still doesn't work.. What works is if I restart the phone. After using it for about half hour with some applications running, the problem comes on again. It's pretty consistent.

Tried to do 50s video with IS off. The problem gone
Tried it with 5min+ recording. No problem either.
I guess the problem is really the IS feature.

Yep still getting stutters in recording with IS off. Have tried changing focus settings but nothing seems to work. Have also updated to the latest. 184 build.

Video at 720p ???

I have taken 3 videos of duration between 1 to 3 minutes. I kept the setting at 720p recording in my DHD stock Rom. The thing i realized after transfering them to my laptop is that all 3 videos have a very minute pause of recording in between. It occurs like 3-4 times in a video of 1.30 minute. Are you people facing this problem? I checked my memory card of 8GB is still 30% free and there are not more apps running in background.
Is there any solution to get smooth video recordings or is it a bug in DHD ?
Normally your SD card need formatting
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Not exactly sure what you mean...
But there is an issue with 1.32, where video randomly skips a few seconds, which was supposed to be fixed in 1.72 firmware.
I did see suggestions about reformating for SD card or using a task killer before you shoot. Check if you're still on 1.32.
I don't have much experience as I didn't do much recording before updating to 1.72. Your best bet is to install a custom ROM if you don't have a update avalible yet. Or wait for the gingerbread update, which should be coming in a few weeks, sound and video recording is improved alot in gingerbread.
If you are talking about software number,it is 1.83 .
I dont know where exactly i can find the firmware no.
I got this s/w no in settings>about phone>software information.
Is it the correct place to look for the firmware?
About formatting my memory card, is there any software to backup and restore the image of memory card?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yes, the video randomly skips a few seconds.... thats the true explanation. My brother took the same video with his experia ACE, and the video quality was better than DHD. There was much light and the video was brighter as well, compared with my DHD's video.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yes you're looking at the right place.
You don't need any backup software, just copy everything for the SD card to a folder on your PC, format it, and copy back, easy .
Note that HTC phones aren't exactly known for their cameras. And it's not a suprise that the video on the SE may be higher quality.
There is a great thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875230&highlight=camera+guide
that explains the DHD camera and fixes alot of the issues. It's worth a read.
The main point is to set sharpness to -2 (helps the quality), and adjust the exposure if video lags (low light).
If you were recording outside, maybe setting the exposure higher might help brightness (The problems is that setting too high will resoult in lag if there is not enough light availible.
Funny enough, I tried recording a video now and saw skipping (with 1.82). Exiting the Camera app and using a task killer to kill everything running in the background solved the issue. Search the android market for a "task killer" and download it, and use it before recording.
I hope that will solve your issue.

I just put in a Brand New,unused 1 GB memory card, and took a video. I realized that the Video was normal, and there was no skipping, so now i plan to FORMAT my 8GB memory card and then going to take a video and post the result here.

Poor video recording :(

I really love the phone and especially its photo capabilities.
Yet the video lags while recording are really bad.
Here a random unedited testvideo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbXSOsVaE0
At the end theres no sound which probably results from the freezing where no sound is recorded.
Therefore the video is longer than the recorded sound.
I just checked and firmware is up to date, battery was full & taskkiller emptied RAM before recording.
Hope there is a fix incoming

there is a known bug in the video recording of the arc, check some other threads on here. It has been reported to S.E so hopefully they will release a patch to solve the problem.

Well, with stabilization on you get distortion as the frame moves, but it's hardly noticeable. Beats a jerky video.

It destroys the image with to much compression. Usually ends up with a more blurry pic.
But im speaking from the Xperia X10, not the Arc. But I could only assume its the same as of now.
ive just replaced the memory card on my arc to a 16gb kingston class 4.....seems marginally better with regards to video stutter...need to run a few more tests first though.

Yeah that a **** video dude..I ve got the same problem..The video lags a lot..I dont know whether there is a solution..hopefully a 3rd party app??
My mum told me to record my little brother's rehearsal for the regional artistic cycling tournament (he got silver btw ) cuz she was at work .The vid lagged so badly, also with the 5 sec freezing and some random 1 sec freezing. The whole performance is only about 10 min. I tried with and without image stabilization and some other settings as I was desperate to get it recording. In the end I asked my brother to do it again and used the milestone(Droid) from the coach to record it.
I have the fragments of the recording on my arc if anyones interested
Not that I care much of the performance as its his first year, but my mum was angry and laughing at my phone.
Bottom line: Awesome cam but useless videorecording.
Sony should come up with something..Video recording is ****.. :S

Taking a picture while recording video not available

I can't seem to take a picture while recording a video.
This is what my camera interface looks like while i'm recording a video.

I'm hoping it's just something to do with the camera settings but i could be wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's weird. Have you changed any settings?
Mine worked fine out the box, and I haven't fiddled with anything yet. When I start recording, a small camera button appears above the video recording button...
I just fiddled with settings a bit and Anti-shake was the problem.
It has to be off to be able to take a snapshot while recording a video.
Thanks for your time guys.
WHAT?!? thats awful! as I saw antishake during video is must have option...why they did such a stupid think...so the "take picture during video recording" is function only on 50%... you will have shaky video but also photos! and widescreen instead of normal...bravo Samsung another trumph!!! why are they so stupid as Im reading this forum a couple of weeks I thing that they made every function only to 50%...why I sell my SGS2.
What other functions are only working for 50 % ?

Thanks for your input guys but if check back a couple of posts you'll see that the problem was Anti-Shake, if it's activated in the video recording settings then the option to take a picture while recording a video dissapears.
Unless you're saying that you have the option to take a picture while recording video with Anti-Shake turned ON ?

Video recording issues...

Anyone having issues with video recording?
Its virtually useless to make a decent recording. The phone either can't focus or forgets to focus whilst recording. There's no way to focus either.
Feels like this 4.2 is a beta. That's if this phones problems are related to JB.
I have problems when taking pictures. After the first 4 or 5 it wont take no more. It just keeps the flash on and it keeps focusing over and over until i restart the camera.

The camera overheating issue

Hello all,
Feel like im having no luck with my phones. had a load of HTC One M8 all with problems.
Now im on my second Z2, first with that gap issue but this second one can only record full HD video for 7 mins on my test
So should I send it back? I tested this out by using google camera from play store and noticed the camera still running at 17 mins so would this mean softeware??

That doesn't seem right. Have you tried 4K recording? Just curious to know how long your 4K videos would be before the overheat warning.
I just tested 4K recording just now, I got to 14:45 then got an overheat warning but the video saved. The phone wasn't even hot, it was just warm.
I think you should replace your phone, hope you have better luck with your new phone.
I think it may be a software issue also. I just tried recording a 4k video and my camera shut off at 4 minutes, the temperature right after the shutdown was 40 degrees C according to GSM battery monitor. I let the phone cool down to ambient temperatures and did some regular recording. I reached 17 minutes before manually shutting it down myself and the temperature was 40 degrees as well. My phone has gotten hotter than that while doing other things and it seemed fine. My guess is that the software is being too aggressive in trying to keep the phone cool during 4k recordings
I only got 4mins 30 seconds recording 4k then it shut down this is the reply from sony.
Dear Brian,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We are sorry to hear of the issues you have been experiencing with recording using 4K video on your Sony Xperia Z2.
Sony Mobile is aware of some users encountering issues when shooting 4K video for extended periods.
4K capture is an advanced and professional video recording experience and shooting movies at this resolution can make significant demands on your phone's processor, memory and battery life.
Therefore for the best experience, we recommend you install a high capacity SD card (Xperia Z2 can take a card up to 64GB) and shoot 4K video in short bursts of no longer than a few minutes at a time.
We hope this information is of some assistance.

The key point is they say "Sony Mobile is aware of some users encountering issues when shooting 4K video for extended periods."
so if its only some users does that mean us that are suffering the problem have a faulty phone
1.14 minutes in my view isn't an extended period, recording my children for just over a minute then the phone shuts off in my opinion isn't acceptable.
Going back tomorrow but sounds to me this is happening on nearly every Z2 i havent tried 4K but will now.. But the fact that im getting only 7 mins on 1080p recording doesnt sound good...
This must be Sony software triggering a safety measure but its not needed as other camera apps work fine

Could be a combination of both, I will do more 4k recordings when my screen protector arrives and see if the videos will last close to the same time as my first try.
Another test on 1080p 60fps gave me a camera shut down at 2 half mins :0 this is simpley shocking stuff on Sonys behalf..

So the way I look at this, is under the Sales of Goods act in the UK, as Sony are advertising this as a 4k camcorder phone, given the current issue, its not of merchantable quality. I will stick with the Z2 for another 4 months (I love the phone in all other respects), in the hope they can rectify the issue by firmware and/or by a hardware revision and a unit swap. If neither of these materialise, I request a full refund and move to whatever is the best phone on the market at that time. I'm in a similar position with the Z2 tablet and its touchscreen response problem.

If the hardware isn't up to the job yet, the feature should probably be disabled. A bit late now of course, but Sony must have done sufficient testing and been aware of the overheating issue before it was unveiled at MWC?
I do think that Sony will be working hard to fix the problem in software, so there's perhaps still hope (does the Note 3 get that hot when recording 4K for example?) but otherwise I think this problem isn't going to go away and sooner or later some of the big websites, Watchdog (a consumer programme in the UK for those that aren't from here) and so on will go to town on them.
