With JPM, Kies wouldnt update to JP2.... So i took it to service center with JPM inside, asked them to flash JP2 and they did it....
Kies flashing failed
I was trying to upgrade using kies and the flashing stuck mid way and my phone wont boot now. I tried multiple times to flash using the firmware emergency recovery built in kies but it gets stuck at the same point always (39%).
Any one faced this problem? I am downloading odin files and will try. Let me know if I shouldnt try with odin and rather take the phone to the service center.
flashing with Idiot Kies is very problematic specially if you have win 7 on your pc....I just flashed with Odin...its the better way...
Thanks to all Friends who helped me

downloaded the ota update but now my phone is stuck on the samsung vibrant screen but i can hear the tmoblie jingle. my phone is rooted and my comp doesnt recognize my phone can anyone help???
Go to the bible under development section . You will need to use odin to get your phone back up and running . All file are posted there . You need the drivers for your computer to recognize the phone .
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I downloaded all the files so how do i install the drivers on to my comp?
There should be an exe file select the correct ones for your computer . If you have a 64 bit os use the x64 , if you have a 32 bit os use the x86 . Then run the correct exe file . It will install the drivers .
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
okay so i install the driver and started odin, stopped at <ID:0/005> cache.rfs removed the phone, removed the battery, went into dl mode, plug the phone back in to reflash it but odin wont let me push the start button. been reading other post saying that i had to delete s1_odin_20100512.pit file but where do i find that file?
The pit file isnt need unless you want to erase your data . If want to use it it can be found in the development section . In the bible directory then click mirror .
Does com4 ever appear in odin? Also try running odin as administrator .
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Mine did that, but only after I tried to do a clockwork recovery to go back to before I did the JI6 update via Odin. It didn't work, so I flashed back to stock, rooted, installed ROM manager and then did my clockwork recovery. Man I love both of those apps.

follow directions from this thread, very easy to fix this, had the same thing.
I have talked to many people that had issues applying the OTA update. Here are the steps to get your phone back to stock and apply the update.
As always, I'm not responsible for anything. yadda yadda.
First, download multiupload.com/NMPX3KMWRS
This contains Odin, the Samsung Drivers, stock odin rom, updated odin rom, pit file.
If you don't want to lose your settings, etc. you can skip to the second part. If your phone still doesn't work than start from the top.
-PART 1-
Step 1.) Make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed for your phone. If you are on 64bit then choose 64, if you are on 32 choose 32. You may already have the drivers installed and it will tell you after you try to install them.
Step 2.) Power your phone off
Step 3.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 4.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 5.) To ensure your phone is back to stock, in odin you will want to check the repartition button. ONLY CHECK IT WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING BACK TO STOCK. Leave the other check boxes the way they are.
Step 6.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 7.) Click the PDA button and select Original.tar and then click Start
It should go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Below are the steps to update it to the latest release.
Close Odin and power your phone off.
-PART 2-
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 3.) Leave all check boxes the way they are. Do NOT check the repartition box.
Step 4.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 5.) Click the PDA button and select T959UVJI6.tar and then click Start
It will go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Congrats, you are on the latest update!

I take no credit for any of this work. I have added it all to one post to help make life a little easier for those who are wanting help in getting rid of any need of waiting for T-Mobile to release any firmware again. Credits will be added to all post at the bottom of the respective page. This TUT will also work with other networks.
If you have 3 Button Download mode you can jump to page 2.
Post 1: 3 Button Download Mode.
Post 2: Upgrade to Froyo.
Post 3: Rooting and lag fix.
Post 4: De-Branding.
3 Button Download.
I have run out of time to add this today i will finish off tomorrow. For now follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821698
Upgrade to Froyo.
PRELIMINARY NOTE:
[WARNING!] Do Not flash Any ROM (firmware) until you can get the 3 buttons DOWNLOAD MODE working, even with this Kies trick.
If you want to test the 3 buttons download mode then notice that you can switch back to normal mode by pulling the battery out and then back in. At the next boot the phone will be back in normal mode.
LAGFIX USERS:
[WARNING!] Remember to disable lagfix before to update.
This will avoid filesystem errors that may occurs at the boot of the new flashed firmware.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download latest Kies Registry Patcher, tool is attachment. Note: It require Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or later version.
2) Update Kies to 1.5.3.10103.102.
3) Launch Kies Registry Patcher; If you patched the dll in the past with an older version of the patcher then be sure to launch new release as administrator since it have to revert the dll to the original version as the patch isn't needed anymore (Right click on application > Run as Administrator).
4) Launch Kies and connect your phone; Wait for Kies to recognize it properly.
5) You have 2 possibilities now:
5a) Drop down the combo-box "Spoof Product Code as" and select the wanted one. It should automatically fill the "Spoof Software Revision as" textbox with the needed data necessary to find your update.
This feature was added in order to give all the opportunity to use the needed product code. (Special thanks to MCOGW that shared with me his database of product codes/sw revisions).
The label above will be completed with the country related to the chosen product code.
5b) From patcher select:
File > Load Backup
Open the backup that you want to use (e.g. kies-backup-XEU.xml if you want to spoof your phone as XEU, or if your phone is XEU yet and you want to flash it again).
6) From patcher answer "YES" in order to apply the registry update.
7) From Kies you can now update as normal.
Remeber that this patch will remain ACTIVE until you set "Enable Spoof" field to False!
It's not a problem but ater you update the phone it's suggested to put that value to false so the patch become inactive.

De-branding.
To truly de-brand you need to get rid of the branded product code and have the correct CSC. Follow the steps below.
[WARNING] Make a full backup of your \efs folder just in case you go wrong or any errors occur.
You will need to be rooted and have the root explorer app installed from the market.
Copy your \efs folder to your pc and open nv_data.bin with note pad, Search for TMU and replace with XEU. If you can not find TMU try KOR. Save the file and and copy it back to your \efs folder on your handset. Delete the nv-data.md5 file off the handset and reboot. repeat steps with the nv_data.bak file.
Once completed change your CSC to XEU by typing *#272*(yourimei)# and click on XEU.
Now when Samsung release a new update you will get it straight away.
Sorry if I have missed any people in the credits. Please post with name and post number if poeple need to be added.

I'm rather new to all this and before I attempt to update my T-Mobile Galaxy S using the described 5(a) option, I would appreciate some advice, please.
I understand the instructions right up to the end of para 5(a) but at this point there is no "yes" button to click. However, there is a "Read Registry" button. Presumably I click this and will then be asked the click a "Yes" button to proceed with the update.
What then happens? What should I expect to see on the PC and on my phone?
Some step-by-step instructions would be much appreciated to boost my confidence!
P.S. I've already checked that I have the three-button system restore active on my phone.
Ain't done no root because I wil be ****ed if it bricks and I don't know no way of rooting without restore mode.

I've been running 2.2 on my T-Mobile UK Galaxy S for some time, but have never used or even installed Kies. I just installed the relevant USB drivers, then flashed a ROM I've downloaded from mirrors linked here with Odin3 (I've always had download mode working properly). Currently I'm using JPO with SpeedMod Kernel K10H, which provides root.

I've done a branded Orange and Vodafone by flashing XXJPO via ODIN.
It's very hard to totally brick your phone with ODIN, but there can be complications.
Before you do anything, make sure you have working 3br and download mode. If you don't have it, I don't recommened using Kies or ODIN.

Flashing with odin will not allow u to update with kies when the next release is issued as your product will stay the same and your software versions will be wrong so you will need to use odin again. Plus if odin is used wrong it can brick you phone

Nope, if you flash a full ROM via ODIN, including the CSC, it'll work fine. It'll even work on kies (although i don't know why anyone would want to do that )

Hi All,
Just bought an I900 running 2.1-u1
Baseband I9000XXJPK
What's the best way to get 2.2/2.2.1 on this?
Bit confused by the galaxy, seems a bit more messy with topics etc compared to the Desire HD (Also have)
Thanks,
Luke.
Download and install Kies 2. Run and plug in phone. it will tell you if your phones region has an update. You should at least get 2.2 at a guess.
Nope, it says this device isn't upgradeable atm, or something similar, which I find odd. But it wont.
Looking at the O2 website (I assume that is who you are with) the shop states their version of the SGS has only got Android 2.1 so it looks like it has not been updated by them yet. The support section shows several makes but not Samsung. I suggest you contact their customer support for a clearer picture. There are ways of updating but they invalidate your warranty and guarantee. If the phone is under 7 days old you could always take it back (I would) and choose a different network. Also by Flashing other firmware onto the phone you would lose any O2 applications/settings and may possibly make it unusable if the flash goes wrong or if the phone does not have a recovery mode.
Not with 02 on this one. Phone is unlocked and a de branded variant. No carrier. Currently using Orange Sim.
Can you try typing *#1234# in the dialler and posting the result.
Pda: I9000xxjf3
phone: I9000xxjpk
csc: I9000oxajf3
Which version of Kies did you install? The one from the provided disc? If so, open up Kies and check for updates to the software. I hear Samsung is no longer rolling out updates through versions of Kies under v2.
Once you have Kies on v2, you should be able to get Froyo 2.2.1.
Here is the offical Kies 2.0 download link
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/d...KDXEU&prd_mdl_name=GT-I9000&srchword=Galaxy+S
Click on the firmware update tab and the download tab is in there.
I have the latest off the site. Not even used the disc.
This seems very odd!
EDIT: Just checked. Deffo over v2!
There are suggestions in another thread that Samsung may be getting ready to roll out a new upgrade. If this is correct then I suppose it is possible that 2.2 and 2.2.1 have been removed in readiness?
Try loading "Samsung firmware" from the Android market. Run it and see if that says there is an update available for you.
I do understand that you bought this device from a guy, that is because the old XXJF3 firmware do come with the XXJF3 modem not XXJPK which is much later modem. Kies will not update the device until the Phone/CSC/Modem do match, means XXJF3/OXAJF3/XXJPK is seen as wrong by Kies, the right combination is XXJF3/OXAJF3/XXJF3.
You can only use Odin to make this right in one of three ways:
1: Flash the right Modem on your device to get the right combination and let Kies upgrade your device to XXJPY.
2: Flash the full XXJPM which is the 2.2 froyo and let Kies upgrade your device to XXJPY.
3: Flash XXJPY directly.
Ofcourse you can use CWM to flash a full ROM too but that will be too complicated for you at the moment.
Please explain the Clockwork Mod update.
And I should be ok. Fully customised a HTC Hero, T-Mobile G2, Orange San Francisco, T-Mobile Pulse and also my current Desire HD, so should be able to work it out ...
Thanks.
Also, any links to the right bit I need, can't find xxjf3 for the phone anywhere, I'll flash all 3 if I can find them, with the right .pit too ...
1: Root the phone if it's not rooted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2: Download/install busyox from market and run it, install in the device.
3: Download/install Rom Manager from market, install recovery 2.5.1.2
4: Download the deodexed XXJPY/OXAJPY/XXJPY firmware, extract and copy the extracted zip file to the internal SD-Card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
5: Reboot to recovery from Roma Manager menu, choose "install/run update.zip", the device will reboot, choose "install/run update.zip" again and you will be in CWM, choose "install zip from SD-card", brows to it and install the ROM you have downloaded.
6: Reboot when done.

No pit is needed to flash using Odin, unless you need to re-partition.
To flash the Modem only using Odin:
Download this archive, double-click to extract, power down the phone, remove Sim and external SD-card if any: http://www.multiupload.com/8CWVVOSP9H
1: Don't start Odin yet, hold the Volume Down key and the Menu Key then press and hold the Power Key till you see a yellow triangle with the word "Downloading", connect to the PC and let the drivers be installed, disconnect when done.
2: Start Odin and load the MODEM_I9000XXJF3 tar file as Phone, no pit, no re-partition.
3: Do the same again as in point 2 to enter Download mode, if your device is still in Download mode then press and hold all the three keys until the screen flicker, and the phone re-enters Download mode, don't try to connect the phone before doing that, the device will not flash and you will get an error.!
4: When re-entered Download mode, connect the phone and hit start, the flash will take a few seconds, the phone will reboot and here you have flashed the modem only.
Good luck
Ramad, changing the modem did the trick. Just updating to JPY. See what that's like, then might give Darkys ROM a bash. Seems to be the best ROM available?
Bah trying to do this properly, the download through KEIS has failed twice and once timed out. I'll do this manually I think. Is JPY the best one? Or one of the 2011 releases?
Thanks.

The error with the emergency recovery is easy to bypass, when the ROM is downloaded and Kies shows that error, choose the emergency option that Kies offers, disconnect the phone and don't close Kies, re-enter Download mode on the device and connect to kies again, it will download the ROM again and flash the device.
Regarding costume ROMS, I don't use any so I don't know much about them, I suggest that you try the stock ROM before trying any costume ROM.
There's no emergency recovery ... It's literally KEIS trying to download the new updates from Samsungs servers. It's soooo slow and fails constantly.
HI

Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from above and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron
Should look like this screenshot
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg
If the package has 3 files it should look like this:
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended
Will I loose all my data and programs?
let me be the first to thank you
i am coming from iphone4 so all these terms and apps are new to me, and while i can use the search function a lot of times it takes several pages of read-thru to piece together what you have put in 1 concise post
btw i love the SG2 and android platform, steve jobs can toss my salad
If you flash any 2.3.3 you don't seem to loose any data... but yeah updating to 2.3.4 you do loose data and programs.
I didn't have many programs, but market restored most of them from me, and good to backup first.
Also kies gives me that I can't update firmware maybe cause its the latest one and it don't recognise the firmware.
Please be aware this is a leaked version, so if you want you could wait for the official one, I so far had no problems whatsoever
Just one noob question, SII being my first android phone, i assume that in order not to lose warranty you still have to use USB jig to reset rom counter if something bad happens, right ?

Sorry I have no clue about that But I guess you could always flash the carrier branded firmware from INTRATECH's posts.. links in my first post as well.
I guess it only applies if you root your phone (I could be wrong).

If you are using stock kernel there is no counting in custom binary,so no problem with your warranty. You can check your counter if you go to download mode.By the way usb jig is always usefull.

Is it possible to use another CSC from older stock releases together with this? ie, flashing this, and then after that flashing the multi CSC "MultiCSC OXXKF1" for instance? The reason im asking is that ppl have reported this rom to not include the nordic keyboard's for swype etc, and thats sort of a gamebreaker for me.

tanx so much!!!..i`m downloading...keep it up bro
There is one thing I don't understand how to do. Before I flash my firmware with the new 2.3.4 version, I would like to take a copy of my existing firmware from my phone first and save it to my PC. So that I have the option of putting my phone back to how it was if for some reason I want to revert my phone. I understand that I would need to buy a jig to reset the update counter.
So is it possible to save my existing firmware to my PC first?
I did try looking at the download page but there were so many different countries and carrier versions that I found it confusing. I am stock KF3 uk unbranded O2 still running 2.3.3
Thanks
Thank you tfn. Great instructions, I am loving the new update.
Odin is the saviour tool for all Samsung devices. The method for flashing by Odin differs from device to device.
This thread will give step by step instructions on how to flash a stock rom from Odin on the GT-I9070/p :
A. Download Odin tools from here : http://d-h.st/3zJ
Pass : shaaan
B. Download the stock rom from www.samfirmware.com
Setting up Odin :
1. Make sure you have installed the necessary drivers for this device. The drivers can be installed from within KIES or seperately. (I will upload the drivers shortly).
2. Run Odin as administrator.
3. Setting up the files is divided in two types depending on the firmware type :
a. If the firmware is a multi package file, put the files in the corresponding sections.
ie. CSC file in CSC section, PDA file in PDA section.
b. If the firmware is a single package, add the single file in the PDA section.
4. Now that Odin is setup, put the phone in download mode. To do that, power off the phone and press 'home+power+volume down' buttons together. Keep the buttons pressed till Download mide appears.
5. Now that Odin and the phone are setup, connect the phone to the device. Odin will detect the device and show something like 'com port (1)'
6. Flash the device.
7. The flash will take 5 minutes for a full flash on average.
8. When the flashing is complete, DO NOT remove the device until Odin shows ' PASS '.
9. The device will reboot. Remove the device, go to recovery mode and do a factory/data reset.
That's it. Happy flashing peeps..!!
Awesome guide mate - messing around with our device without Odin is risky !
This should be sticky. A lot of people is asking how to revert to original FW, or similiar questions that is connected to reverting. And it is almost at the end of forum, and thay cant see it.
I pmed the mods to do it. But they won't budge..
Please pm them..
Nice guide!!!
And adding images would be a nice option.
And plz add a point which tells which buttons to press like
"Re-Partition" ,"Auto Reboot","F.Reset Time" ,"Flash Lock"......

From what I was able to find in other guides it is ONLY 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' to be checked.
All others to be unchecked.
There are some posts not to bother with that .pit file that is inside Odin .zip file.
Odin package from sammobile got 2 .pit files for 8GB - GT-I9070_EUR_XX_8G and GT-I9070_EUR_XX_8G_20111220_KL6 and one for 16GB
(at least paired with XEO region XXLD1) not only that one we got in link form 1st post.
I was also able to find some info that if you use .pit check also 'Re-Partition'.
Now I am curious about if It would be good idea for me to actually Re-Partition my phone - bought it used (not new) and my PC detects only 4GB of internal SD. Will it increase custom binary counter? (so far it is at 0 and I would rather keep it that way)
Is it going to fix that issue so I will be able to use all 8GB (minus system partition)?
If so how to use it and what .pit file to take?
.pit only, re-partition only and run it once, then single-package as PDA with reboot and F. Reset on another flash run?
Or maybe all at once?
BTW you guys ROCK.

It is normal to have 4GB on internall SD. The rest of it goes to system partition, application partition and RAM I think...

googled a bit more and found it out too :crying:
BTW - both of those 8GB .pit files are identical (according to 'comp' tool in windows) so there is no reason to use re-partition - other than sth went totally wrong and you are trying to recover from brick or sth serious as this .pit file is already on your device.
Just flashed unbranded stock for XEO region - original one was branded.
NOTE to anyone who is still thinking about safety of this method:
After initial reboot - when it was reconfiguring in recovery mode - or however you will call it (just before odin should say 'pass' - still in that little font screen) windows started to reinstall usb drivers - odin log in bottom corner said 'disconnected' and even then my newly flashed ROM is working as it should. I would rather keep it connected till Odin confirms all went as intended but in case of similar issue - do not get heart attack

nope it can also be used to flash custom Roms and kernels though flashing custom kernels via odin will increase your bin counter !
Hello guys...
How are you? I´m new on the i9070 threads!!! I´ve had others phones before, like SG2, xperia sola, live with walkman... so, i need the password to descompress odin... i search on thread but i don´t found it...
SORRY I found the password... shaaan
Of what I understand, can I test an unlimited number of stock firmware and the binary counter remain 0?
If I flash an unbranded firmware can I use SIM cards from other providers?
Now my phone is branded and I can not use SIM cards from other providers.
Thanks.
