downloaded the ota update but now my phone is stuck on the samsung vibrant screen but i can hear the tmoblie jingle. my phone is rooted and my comp doesnt recognize my phone can anyone help???
Go to the bible under development section . You will need to use odin to get your phone back up and running . All file are posted there . You need the drivers for your computer to recognize the phone .
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I downloaded all the files so how do i install the drivers on to my comp?
There should be an exe file select the correct ones for your computer . If you have a 64 bit os use the x64 , if you have a 32 bit os use the x86 . Then run the correct exe file . It will install the drivers .
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
okay so i install the driver and started odin, stopped at <ID:0/005> cache.rfs removed the phone, removed the battery, went into dl mode, plug the phone back in to reflash it but odin wont let me push the start button. been reading other post saying that i had to delete s1_odin_20100512.pit file but where do i find that file?
The pit file isnt need unless you want to erase your data . If want to use it it can be found in the development section . In the bible directory then click mirror .
Does com4 ever appear in odin? Also try running odin as administrator .
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Mine did that, but only after I tried to do a clockwork recovery to go back to before I did the JI6 update via Odin. It didn't work, so I flashed back to stock, rooted, installed ROM manager and then did my clockwork recovery. Man I love both of those apps.

Girlfriends phone did the samething.
Download the files in this thread...

Open ODIN select PDA and select the .tar file. PRESS START!
It will go though the process and install it.
Her phone was back online with the new update, and did not lose any data.
Might need the samsung drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
I already had them installed, so I'm not sure if they are required or not.

follow directions from this thread, very easy to fix this, had the same thing.
I have talked to many people that had issues applying the OTA update. Here are the steps to get your phone back to stock and apply the update.
As always, I'm not responsible for anything. yadda yadda.
First, download multiupload.com/NMPX3KMWRS
This contains Odin, the Samsung Drivers, stock odin rom, updated odin rom, pit file.
If you don't want to lose your settings, etc. you can skip to the second part. If your phone still doesn't work than start from the top.
-PART 1-
Step 1.) Make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed for your phone. If you are on 64bit then choose 64, if you are on 32 choose 32. You may already have the drivers installed and it will tell you after you try to install them.
Step 2.) Power your phone off
Step 3.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 4.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 5.) To ensure your phone is back to stock, in odin you will want to check the repartition button. ONLY CHECK IT WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING BACK TO STOCK. Leave the other check boxes the way they are.
Step 6.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 7.) Click the PDA button and select Original.tar and then click Start
It should go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Below are the steps to update it to the latest release.
Close Odin and power your phone off.
-PART 2-
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 3.) Leave all check boxes the way they are. Do NOT check the repartition box.
Step 4.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 5.) Click the PDA button and select T959UVJI6.tar and then click Start
It will go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Congrats, you are on the latest update!

The same thing has happened to my phone, damnit. Not sure why. Is this the only way to fix it? What would happen if I took my phone to a T-Mobile shop?

Well yeah I want it fixed right away. I started downloading as soon I saw the instructions above and I'm still waiting. It's taking FOREVER. Lurking in the back of my mind is the fact that there are probably two or three guys standing around talking about baseball in the T-Mobile shop two blocks away.
it worked!! finally! the reason it didnt work b4 was becuz i was using odin v1.0 instead of odin v1.3. thanks guys for the help
What can I used to extract the .zip files? For some reason my program is telling me it can't open the file as an archive... I hate this feeling of having a broken phone.

Ok. So I just got this phone. I had the iPhone before and Im pretty tech savy. I honestly have no idea about this phone. I rooted it and today I received the Tmobile GPS update. Of course silly me updated it. Now its hung on the opening Vibrant screen. I deleted all data thinking it might restore it completely. That didnt work. So now my phone wont work and I have no clue how to fix it. HELP PLZ!
First of all can you access download mode or recovery? Try pressing both volume buttons and power. And let me know what happens.

It appears your phone is Soft-Bricked. You may need to use ODIN to go back to stock

Sorry, took too long replying, i see you already almost there. If it stays too long at the File Analysis phase then there is probably not communication between your PC and your Phone. Make sure your PC detects your phone and that ODIN shows a port number when your phone is connected. (Any port # will do it) Check your drivers. Also if running Windows 7 Vista, try running ODIN as administrator.
The link to get all the files I need isnt working. GRRR!! This is a pain! Lol.

Not long usually.
It sounds like you are in recovery mode vice download mode my friend. Try this:
First make sure you have all the correct drivers for the phone loaded onto your system.
-Close and reopen Odin.
-Unplug the USB cable and remove the battery.
-Reinsert the battery into the phone.
-Hold down both vol down + vol up and plug in the usb cable (make sure it's plugged into your computer first).
This should get you to a yellow screen that has a andriod sweeping, with "Download Mode" displayed at the bottom.
When you look in Odin you should see a little yellow box with a com port number in the upper left. This means the computer and Odin have found the phone, and that it is now ready for flashing.
Select the stock JFD firware for the PDA option, and the correct 512.pit file for PIT.
Try flashing again. Hopefully you get a bit further this time!
YAY!! It worked!! Ok. Thanks for the help.
Oh should I install the Tmobile GPS fix and root it again? Or will it get stuck again?

No! heh....download Kies Mini (there's a thread in here...like pg 1 or 2) install JI6 from there. It's the official release instead of OTA from T-Mobile.

edit: Here it is...
After tremendous searching and asking for help from members.. I got all these instructions which I am compiling for myself and others who might need it.
Disclaimer: I have tried these instructions as it is and worked fine for me. Now I have GPS lock in <5secs and with a accuracy of 5-10m. Tried it atleast 5-6 times at different times and still seem to work fine, unlike while I was on 2.1 before. Feel free to suggest any modifications or corrections.
Assumptions:
You have used OTA update.zip to go to Froyo and have no GPS at all
You are on windows machine
You have guts to flash back to older firmware and not brick your unit like other did (possibly restored too)
Atleast I am not rooted before or after update. Not sure how thats gonna affect this process.
Files needed (PC only)
DI18 .tar.md5
http://www.multiupload.com/X9AB1U56JV
odin & pit from the wiki link
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/Odin3+v1.61andepic.pit.zip
Step1: ODIN [worked perfectly, had to install samsung drivers]
1. Open odin
2. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold 1 on the keyboard while powering up)
3. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
4. Select the victory_8G_100528.pit on the right in the pit section. Some say pit is needed..some say not needed. I am going to put it in and try first.
5. In the PDA Section you place either the full Stock tar (SPH-D700-****-8Gb-REL.tar around 300mb~) for a full wipe and full return to stock. This is what you downloaded from above multiupload.com link. Its about 255 mb.
6. Hit start. It will do its thing. Doesn't take long you can see the progress bar. If it sits on File Analysis for longer than 30 seconds its not going to happen. See the troubleshoot section below.
7. Device should reboot and should be done.
Step 2: GPS LOCK[ Got instant lock]
Fire up Google Maps app and wait for it to lock your location.
If your GPS doesnt lock after sometime.. try these steps.
In your dialer, type *#1472365#
click "Setup" tab
Then:
Operation Mode: (MSBased)
Back out
Starting Mode: (Cold Start)
Back out
Session Type: (Single Fix)
Back out and reboot your phone.
Step 3: Flash back to DK28 [ not sure why we cant use update.zip as we did before for this process]
1. Download DK28 .tar file here http://www.multiupload.com/C5YEZK3WF7 <== DONT USE THIS, YOU WILL GET MD5 HASH INVALID.
Use this instead http://www.multiupload.com/A4HRBSEB7X
2. Follow the same steps as above in STEP 1 instead use the above file in the PDA section.
Note: There doesnt seem to be a pit file for this flashing. Please let me know if thats accurate.
Note2: I didnt use any pit file for this step, and it worked fine.
NOTE1: The.md5.tar seems to wipe out everything and there is no alternative
NOTE2: Some people have suggested to remove the SD card before running ODIN. I am not 100% sure.
NOTE3: You will need to get samsung drivers if ODIN doesnt recognize the phone. Also ppl are saying samsung cables are crap, so if ODIN doesnt recognize then you may have to swap out the cables.
NOTE4: If you are stuck in the download mode (yellow digging android) and you have NOT started the flashing/odin process yet, just pull the battery out and it will be normal. IF YOU STARTED THE FLASHING/ODIN PROCESS,PULLING MIGHT HOSE YOUR PHONE.
32-bit drivers: http://firon.net/xda/Samsung_Mobile_...00_Epic_4G.zip
64-bit drivers: http://firon.net/xda/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
I ll keep adding as I find more info.. Hope this helps.
Thanks every one for their feedback.
PS: This is almost accurate.. I have followed them as it is and they worked for me.
Update: I followed every step to the T in the above guide and have been able to get back to froyo and gps lock successfully. Tho the first gps lock was only 60m inside the house. I will play around more and post updates.
Update 2: I get a accuracy of about 5-10 m now.
Thanks...this is what I've been waiting for. Problem I've been having is my compter or odin wont recognizes the epic. What should I do...I'm runing Windows 7 64bit
I guess you need to have samsung drivers installed.. its there somewhere in this forum.. I will update the guide.

Like to inform you guys the DK28 is not the official release. Sprint has not corrected the fix for the GPS. http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/52685#
I don't think the way you are going about this has anything to do with the problem. I think the tar file I dl on Friday had a problem as the GPS wasn't the only thing that was bad when flashing to 2.2.1.
So I decided to flash back to DI18 and then flashed the DK28 modem. I then booted into CWM and ran the latest Froyo Quantum rom. After boot my GPS locked on (outside) to within 10-15 feet in < 5 seconds (better than it has since launch day). Inside my apartment it won't lock at all, but the walls here are steel reinforced concrete so I wasn't expecting it to lock on indoors. I will add in the GPS fix (found on the Quantum thread) later tonight and see what happens.
So far the only problem I have noticed with any regularity is a FC of com.android.phone when hanging up on a phone call.

Well I dont know what the hell I did, but through the process of ODINing to di18, losing root, rerooting, GPS still not working, trying the *# thing still not working, then restoring from a nandroid that bootlooped to ODINing to dk28, then restoring again, I now have working GPS. lol
you got to think the information that was posted are for people that are freaking out. running around with there heads cut off like a chicken. best way to inform someone is to give all the facts, and if it does not work once or twice. maybe never. they can come to the relaztion there phone is not broke. maybe you have no clue who comes on the forums to find out information, but i understand your point. I went from many custom roms dk28. Ive had my wifi not work nor my gps was working as expected. got alittle tired of odining my phone, and clock working my phone. to realize there is no confirmed fix. being back to di18 everything working as expected. do not get me wrong dk28 runs much better, but i need all the atributes the phone provides wifi gps etc... Those where the only confirmed problems i have had. great props to the devs

you will get prompt – “the device is ready to use” (if you tried this before and drivers are already installed you may not get the prompt)
open and click start in ODIN DOWNLOADER again (Double check if the settings are same as before) Your phone will now show up connected in Com Port. Also make sure all files required are selected
STEP 5 This the final step
Now Click start in the ODIN and wait for the flash. Do not interrupt the connection at this stage, As your phone is flashing.
After flashing your galaxy 3 i5801 / i500 is complete , your device will reboot.
Please note it may take some some time for the first time boot. Be patient and don’t Panic.

With JPM, Kies wouldnt update to JP2.... So i took it to service center with JPM inside, asked them to flash JP2 and they did it....
Kies flashing failed
I was trying to upgrade using kies and the flashing stuck mid way and my phone wont boot now. I tried multiple times to flash using the firmware emergency recovery built in kies but it gets stuck at the same point always (39%).
Any one faced this problem? I am downloading odin files and will try. Let me know if I shouldnt try with odin and rather take the phone to the service center.
flashing with Idiot Kies is very problematic specially if you have win 7 on your pc....I just flashed with Odin...its the better way...
Thanks to all Friends who helped me
Any comparison JPM vs JP2?

So yesterday when AT&T announced 50% off of smartphones I was pretty dumbfounded since I got a brand new S4 the day before. But the day I got it I rooted it and did all the other stuff. I will return my S4 for a new one but it's impossible for me to unroot. Everything I've done doesn't seem to work. I used Odin but it stops at the "Get PIT for mapping" stage. I tried deleting SuperSU but that didn't work. It made things worse because it said I'm not rooted but I still am. Now I can't even go to recovery. And I can't even connect to Kies. Can anyone help me unroot my device or help me be able to return my device when it's rooted?

I would think the tools section of Kies will have an option that will work. Connection trouble shoot first then emergency recovery. If your phone boots, you should be able to reset it to out of the box state.
If it's still rooted, try triangle away app.
If you go to settings, more, about device, build number, then tap on build number repeatedly it will restore developer options, if it's not shown now. From there you can enable or disable USB debugging. That might help with Odin. Wish I had more answers for ya.
Also try settings, accounts, backup and reset, factory data reset.

Thank you for your answer. I will try it out now. Little more information is that I'm using the Pacman ROM.

Do you know how to enter the download mode? If so then odin should recognize it. I think it's "hold the power button, down volume, and home button" till it instructs you to let got and hit the up volume button. The connect it to the pc for odin.

Yes I'm trying the Odin process. It's working so far except it stops at "Get PIT for mapping..." which is here i.imgur.com/z8fnjRd (add png to the end)
Kies is not recognizing my device after troubleshoot. It is stuck at "Connecting..." which prevents me from emergency firmware recovery.
There are two options that will help me the most:
Connecting to Kies and getting a PIT file for Odin

Is your phone a US AT&T model I337? There is a stock recovery rom in this forum somewhere, it's a zip file when extracted it will have a tar.MD5 file for use with odin. Or maybe you should use the PDA selection in odin, and uncheck the reboot box.

I just don't want anymore problems
Why don't you just call cs and get credit for the difference instead of returning it. You're going to get another s4 anyways.

Yeah I might do that now, but I want to fix everything first then start new.
Everyone I now know what I really want to do. I want to flash the stock ROM. But this is impossible with http://i.imgur.com/z8fnjRd.png "Get PIT for mapping" is stopping me, which is very frustrating.
Just throwing out some ideas. Try a different cable if you got another one. Try plugging into a usb port in back of computer. You could try to re download the file again using a different mirror. Could just be a bad download. Anyways good luck.

So you went to some other random website, followed their instructions and came here for support. Hmm.
Well, though this site is NOT a support site, let's see if we can get you back.
First you didn't 'brick' your phone, yet - if it boots beyond a blinking or solid LED you have a good chance to get it running.
FIRST turn it off completely. Plug it in and let it charge for about an hour. You've got some reading to do anyways..
grab the MK2 .tar from here (the tar.md5 is in the zip, just extract the .tar.md5 and put that one file in the PDA slot of Odin) and flash it via Odin.
It'll reset everything (all partitions and modem etc.)
Grab PC Odin (v3.07 works great) Extract the folder to your desktop.
Open Odin and right-click and 'run as administrator' Select the above mentioned .tar.md5 and put it into the PDA slot. Do NOT check anything other than options then what come up by default - like reparition in Odin or you WILL hose yourslef.
With your phone NOT connected to the PC enter Download Mode - Power On + Volume Down (at the same time) till the 'confirmation window comes up - then select Volume Up to continue to download mode.
NOW plug your phone into the PC via USB and you should see a COM light up in Odin.
Then hit Start and let it flash. till done.
You phone should reboot - you can disconnect it from the PC after Odin finishes.
Then.. WAIT first boot could take 5 to 10 EARTH MINUTES. Walk away, take a piss watch a few plays of the games whatever.
Your phone should then be back to stock MK2.
IF you want to root you can use CF-Autoroot. File and explicit instructions are here in these forums.
But PLEASE spend some time reading through the how-tos and OPs here.
Good luck

Grab Philz here. Read here on how to install via Odin. Read this entire page on how to use it.
I would HIGHLY recommend you spend some time and read through these sections. The OPs of the ROMs have specific recoveries they recommend and more importantly precise directions for wiping and installing their specific ROMs.
Before you install anything just relax, and spend a few days reading. You won't be sorry.
Next time you try rooting make sure you have everything you need instead of trying to do it piece by piece and YouTube videos can help a lot.
