Hi,
Sorry about the vague/noob question, but it's not my phone, so, please, bear with me.
I'm thinking about buying this phone for my mother and I'd like to know what's the status of development for the X10. Specifically:
1) Are there froyo running custom roms available for this phone? If not, is there any perspective of there being one or an official 2.2 update?
2) Is the official eclair update easy to install?
3) What are, currently, the biggest flaws of the phone and what's the perspective on them being fixed?
Thanks a lot for your help!

1. Yes there are froyo roms but they are not official. There will be no 2.2 rom officially but there will be a 2.3.3 rom officially.
2. The official eclair update is pretty darn easy to install just search the development section.
3. The biggest flaw is probably the low incall speaker volume. It may be fixed to a degree but seems to be hardware limited as well.

If you don't mind a follow up, how stable are the 2.2 custom roms?
Also, since you fine folks have been able to crack the x10 bootloader, wouldn't custom kernels take care of the low incall volume problem?
Thanks a lot, if you need any help regarding the Samsung Captivate, feel free to PM me.
Most of them r very stable. I run the one in my signature all day everyday since everything is working well pretty much. If u need help installing one. Take a look at all the guides first then ask us here for help. There r plenty of howtos. I hope this helps.

As for the call volume it would seem that it could be improved once we get a good kernal going. So far from the reports though, it seems that it can be louder but at the cost of some distortion.
Since its not for you, I would recommend wolfbreaks 2.2 as it is probably the most widely used and supported if you're gonna go 2.2. If 2.1 is sufficient then at least that's se official. And like I said 2.3.3 is coming officially probably around June/July.

Thanks a lot, everyone.
I actually have some experience flashing custom roms and kernels on my Captivate, so it shouldn't be too steep a learning curve.

As you all may know I've been away from the developing scene for a couple months now. I had a lot of things to take care of and I just really couldn't find the time to work on any projects...Well the good new is IM BACK! I have a couple tricks up my sleeve as usual,so stay updated for the release of my next project. To everybody who supported me once before and continues to support my work I want to say thank you.

Curious how did u get 7.5kbps?
It'll be a pleasure, CaNNoN Complete Eclair was first custom ROM I ever flashed . I'm waiting for your next releases! Maybe a ROM based on 2.2.1 OTA with more locales, locking launcher in memory, apps2ext, busybox and root? It would be ideal piece of software for G1.
please tell me this is still happening
I feel like the Aria is slow with developments. NOT COMPLAINING, I love liberated and CM6 (awesome, btw) but when do you think new ROMS are going to come out?

New ROMS based on what??? We have HTC Sense ROMs for Eclair 2.1 and Froyo 2.2 and AOSP CM 6.1. What else are you looking?
Personally I hate visiting the other device forums because everybody and their brother has 'cooked' up another ROM (mostly just new themes or added favorite apps). IMO who has time to stiff through all the various ROMs and threads? I find it much easier to review 3 different ROM threads and try to help others than to try and go through 10 or 15 threads and seeing messages such as 'well this worked on this ROM but it doesn't on that ROM, why not?'
OK, I'll get off my soap box now...
I agree. Plenty of good variety in the ROMs we have.

There's nothing wrong with that actually. Sometimes it's a good thing because there are more people developing towards something greater. We have 1 or 2 guys doing all this work. There are some pretty badass ROMs for the more popular phones out there. If we had more people developing and cooking, we'd no doubt have something better than what we have even now.
Screw those giant phones.
But a little more ROMS would be cool, we just need more people with the Aria.
It's not a bad phone...hah.

Not too sure, as I have only had the Aria and used the two ROMS.
it's not a bad thing that we may only have 3 roms, but they are actually good quality roms, not just thrown together, and they are constantly being updated, but it would be kool if they had more help with them. Although i wish they had some people creating or porting themes, if i knew how i would, if anybody wanna help me learn, i wouldn't mind contributing by making themes for the aria, cause i kno i'm not the only one wishing they could have a theme to try out

I recently rooted and installed CM6.1.0RC2, and only thing I'd say it's missing is Flash Lite compared to Sense. Wish there was a way to get Flash Lite on CM, sadly not possible. Still loving CM though. Might test Sense again when there's an official Froyo update from AT&T and attn1 has taken out all the bloatware.

That's right folks- get your supercharged Froyo sense goodness now with the newer kernel source released by HTC for the HTC legend. Everything works as far as I know, except for the built in wifi hotspot app for which we have replaced with the working Wireless Tether app thanks to the work of shakerhero. Final thanks go to attn1 and jznomoney for their hard work on the CM kernel, ladios for bundling up the kernel, trackpad wake fix, and wireless tether in a single, proper package.

Hi, not long had my DHD but it came with Stock Firmware from Orange so I successfully installed 1.32.405.6 which is all good so far!
I now want to upgrade to gingerbread 2.3 which looks good from what I've seen on youtube! Just want to know if there is an upgrade guide online anywhere? Also will I be able to downgrade to 1.32.405.6 in the future if I don't like it?
I also noticed that a few of the 2.3 roms have a few glitches with certain things not working on the phone. Is there a stable release where everything works properly as it should?
I prefer to wait for HTC to release a 2.3 version. I am sure the usual suspects will do a great job optimizing it.

Hello there,
i just want to know that is it possible to downgrade to froyo if i need to due to some operator related issues?
Looking forward to your kind reply.
Thanks in advance.
There are rumours about Android 2.4. Google is going to do an Android Event on Feb 2nd.
I think they will announce 2.4 officially & I think HTC is busy with updating the HTC Sense to this version of Android.
But who knows, let's hope HTC won't give up with updating our beloved Desire HD
now that would be nice.. Looking forward for it.
still stuck with the 2.2.... still not getting 2.2.1, so i'm getting little worried..

Yep. I was able to flash the leedroid froyo rom after just to see if i could. But for restoring froyo backups i think you need to reflash CWM 2.5 (because you will then be using CWM 3.0.0.5 to flash gingerbread).
Is it really needed to take half a year to get a damn update? If we eventually get 2.3 when will we get the next one, after 2 years?
The mobile manufacturers are really doing a bad job with their updates, and we need to put some pressure on them.

it's just something you have to live with, once you've got the phone they lose interest in you and try and attract new paying suckers customers, if you want the latest and greatest go with the custom ROM's i.e cm 7 which tend to be at the head of the field

And what do you consider a 'good' job? Diverting all resources to updating the DHD? What about the Desire? Or the Hero? Or all the other phones? Or maybe you think that because you bought a DHD, that's the only phone that must get updates? And what about developing new ones, so the company doesn't fall behind the competition? 2011 will see boom of tablets, dual-core CPUs and whoever knows what. According to your logic HTC should make one phone and dedicate to supporting it for years. It might work for Apple, but that's because no one but them makes IOS devices, so they don't have the same competition, as all Android manufacturers face from each other. HTC are doing the best there is regarding the updates. If you feel that's not good enough, you can always try a community ROM, HTCs devices are the first that get them anyway.

Just been to that link and saw this written in one of the posts
Here is a litte guide for using fastboot:
First of all you need the newest Android-SDK. You get this here
After installation (or extracting for Mac/Linux) copy fastboot into the "tools"-folder. You get this here
Your phone needs Engineering HBoot, have a look here
Now download CMW 3.0.0.5 into your tools-folder.
Now reboot your phone into the Bootloader, plug in USB and on your PC switch to Terminal/Command. Change into the tools-folder.
In terminal type:
fastboot-mac flash recovery ace-cwm-3.0.0.5.img
and press enter.
(If your using windows it's just fastboot and on linux it's fastboot-linux.
You can flash a radio by copying a radio.img into the tools-folder and type
fastboot-mac flash radio radio.img

Yeah sure, but why do you really need 2.3 what is really as much better?
They should make better Apps and better Engines for Games first before they make all these versions.
Ok I really disappointed in the Xperia x10 development section.
The only usable Roms are based on 2.1. Now these roms are fantastic. Really do the job well and I would class them as fully operational.
Now the other threads based on 2.2,2.3,MIUI etc are indeed under development. Some excellent work going on and if the 3 Musketeers could only project manage then Im sure a full working rom would be achieved.
So really Im wondering why XDA does not have a full working rom section that allows noobs like myself to go to to download knowing its a fully tested working rom?
Now before the fanboys jump all over me I would state that I am a donator to worthwhile causes and development but seriously the roms released so far can in no way be advertised as stable enough for daily use. It is a phone after all....eg. In one prominent thread today a developer is congratulated for releasing a rom that cannot make a telephone call.......Yesterday one was congratulated for an update that doesnt allow the phone to even switch on!
I do notice in the majority of other areas of XDA there are plenty of full working roms for other devices. Im fully aware that SE's security on this device has so far made it impossible to cook a newer version of android without using old parts.
So perhaps the x10 forum sections do indeed need an area for full working roms. Id presume the developers would also like this so they can transfer there work to it when completed and in return be suitable rewarded for there efforts.
Your thoughts?
I'm releasing a gingerbread rom today with everything working! Oh hai jk guise nothing works lulz
On a serious note, free x10 has been great to me..only issue is camcorder, but it is otherwise perfect

Thanks for your reply. I did indeed try this ROM but I was getting way to many errors in my day to day use for it to be considered stable for daily use. I was also not keen on the support from developer. I believe he has been MIA now for a considerable time....
I do fully understand though that without that developer I would not have been able to do the majority of things I have done to my phone....Hopefully this ROM will one day be Fully working and can be classified as such...
Weird I have not had a single issue... I use my phone a lot too.
I've been using wolfbreaks 2.2.1 CM6.1.3 for about ten days and it's stable. No stock videocam but flash & apps2sd more than make up for it. Very quick and aesthetically pleasing.

Again tried and far from stable! Perhaps though that is where the issues arise....One mans stable is another mans manic!
My version of stable is a ROM that allows me to use all my hardware functions and reports no errors.....Just like stock....
Ever think maybe it's you? I've been keeping up with the free x10 thread and most people don't report errors other than the camcorder..
non working camera and videocam is a deal breaker for me, therefore still sticking with official.

No I am experienced enough thanks to this site to dowload the rom and install. If you cant see the other reports of errors in that thread then perhaps it is me and I need my eyes tested....

Anyhow going slightly off topic when really the point is too see if anyone else thinks a section for fully working roms would be helpful?

I think it's a great idea, but it will be difficult because of the word "fully worked/stable" (what for one person is stable is not for another)
Sure you could put that section in but don't expect to see a single rom that is 2.2+ in there. I realistically as much as i hope I'm wrong don't expect to ever see one in there. This phone is pretty much at the end of it's run now and the bootloader is still locked with no intention from SE to unlock it due to certain copyrighted materials and the such. Sad but a fact i think we all need to start facing.
I almost think we're at the point where there is very little more that can be done other than variations of the same roms already available.
Please do not take this as a shot at the devs as i have much respect for the work they do and without them my phone wouldn't be half what it is today. But in my opinion its time to stop wishing and hoping for things that just aren't in the cards with this particular piece of hardware.
did you come here just to complain? atleast they are making something and wasting thier time for us stop moaning and if your unhappy then dont flash the roms otherwise be happy with what you get.

The FreeX10 (beta4) is still 2.2.1 (I'm using it as we speak, very stable, I can't complain). The only 2.3 ROM I've seen discussed for the SE Xperia x10 is Cyanogen CM7.0 RC1 v005 Gingerbread 2.3.3, which --based on current thread discussion, I haven't tried it myself-- appears to be very unstable at this time.
If there's another 2.3 ROM for the X10 circulating the forums, I haven't seen it. Then again, I haven't really looked through the entire thread.
great
I like what this was supposed to become but not what it s actually.
I'm also a new x10 user, I come from htc desire (z). and I was happy to see that it was far more easy to root the x10i and remove the root when the phone has to go for reparation.
It was not my intention to come and play with different roms, but deu to a wrong installation of a theme I had to instal a custom rom. Now, I like the stock X10 interface. so I'm looking for roms who runs better as the stock rom but look more or less the same...
any suggestions?

Not true. I don't have those issues, and neither does Eternity, Blue Sparks, etc.
I think this is a good idea, but in practice would fail. There are FAR too few "fully functional" ROMs to warrant a separate forum. Maybe we should just start using [STABLE] tags or something.
There would seriously be like 5 legit posts in that forum, and then it would get filled up with crap till it's unusable.
for u, i think the stock rom and the JIT mod will do it for u if u like the stock rom =)
Hi guys.
It's been a while since I test different ROM, I flash kernels ...
I do not even remember how was working my phone before that !
So yesterday I reflash the official Orange ROM for France, of course in Froyo 2.2, and brace yourself ... With the stock kernel ... My phone has never worked as well !
It's so fast, smooth ... Reminds me of the good times when I got this phone in my hands for the first time
All this to say, think well before flashing a ROM, put yourself in mind that Android 4.xx, or even 2.3.x, are not necessarily done to our little phone. Nothing will be faster for a daily ROM as Froyo ...
I think I would not leave again Froyo
After that you're only master of your phone, these are just opinions
* A story of someone who has tested all the ROMs available here ... *
Same for me, I tested all rom for G3 but i'm back to froyo because it very smooth and 2.3 or ics don't have video on HQ in youtube :banghead:

Well don't forget guys that cm7 and ics both are in WiP. So it is obvious that froyo well be better.
So its not correct to compare a complete froyo and an incomplete ics or cm7.
For me froyo wasn't so good because of the crapy touchwiz and no data2sd. I will stick with cm7

Today i came back to JPM from CM7 and the phone is at least 3 times faster...
It's faster...but I miss ICS when I'm on JPU...and I miss JPU when I'm on ICS...I'd like to have a GSII to have touchwizz and ICS

Even though ICS and GB arent complete bt still they are way smooth and better in processing than froyo....think of it as technology...it gets better with every version....n it seems laggy becoz of the fimg drivers and if now when the fimg drivers are completely fixed you can feel that GB is way better than Froyo...I think Almost all features are up and running now...almost......
I know that they are WiP, but i just warn some new users who wants flash those build without reading or follow topics.
It's sure that an official or a final port will be better that Froyo, but keep in mind that our phone just got 256 MB of RAM. Doesn't good for multi-tasking, and GB and ICS are improving in this case.
I hope some day we could have a full port / official GB/ICS, but with this phone, we couldn't enjoy all the possibility of those ROM's, i dont think so, maybe i'm wrong.
PS : Link2SD workin very well with Froyo. I never understand what's the difference of app2SD and data2SD, but i dont care if the app works
I find that 2.2 fairs the same by way of performace in comparison to cm7. But honestly i would prefer cm7 (if it didnt hav the glitches) because of how customisable evrythn is!

Kyrilos v10 is based on cm7 right, do you guys have any experience with that? I've been on Froyo, tried a couple of roms, and my phone's been acting up lately. thinking about flashing to stock. It's easy for me tho, I just need something simple with less battery drain for my girlfriend. She got herself that white g3, but I'm not so inclined to test things on her phone. Scared of bricking it and then what?
Honestly, in my experience you can't brick brick a phone! I mean you really have to try to brick it and even then you have to have a combination of bad moves and bad luck for you to unequivocally brick it!!! That being said, Kyrillos 10 is based on cm7 and I tried it and loved it. The battery does last longer, it does have fantastic speed and usability and with s2e you can save a lot of internal memory without sacrificing speed if you use a good class sd card (6+). The main difference though is how customisable it is in comparison to Froyo. Nonetheless, I flashed back to 9.5 mainly because the video camera didn't work which is a must for me. As I understand it your gf would be interested more in something stable with good battery life. Best bet for g3 is v9.5. And it comes with a very well written, detailed installation guide (if I say so myself) which is about to be updated...
EDIT: Apologies for speaking before having a better overview. I am not going to bore you with details but basically concerning your SD's class it seems that this is not necessarily the deciding factor (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633) and by way of speed tests I researched from other sources on the internet (e.g. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/microsdhc-memory-card-performance,3011-12.html) it seems that the Sandisk SDSQ-8192-AC11M seems to be the overall best buy. I have already contacted a reseller in Germany over e-bay to confirm if he stocks them and if so I will be buying, testing and updating!
Best Rom I've ever experienced is kyrillos' . Recently upgraded it to v10 with CM7. I got my cell now exactly where I wanted it to be ever. Will use it till someone give me a free beer to switch on to something else

Exactly! You're warning people not to flash CM7 after all the hard work Marcellusbe has done and i'm sure there are many more people who completely disagree with you but they aren't 'warning' people not to flash a eclair/froyo/ics ROM are they? Basically, i think it is wrong that you are making other people formulate opinions based on your opinion when they should try every ROM themselves and make their own judgements like you (and I) have done.
Bro, it's just a warn ... Of course, if i have to advice someone for a flash, i'll say CM7 from Marcel' without thinking anything else !
I respect all the job doing from all devs here, but i just warn "new users" cause we can see some post in general section like "Help meeeee, brick my phone ???"
Just wanna clarify it, and make new users read slowly the steps of flashing...
No offense, anywhere
that is exactly the reason why I still make custom froyo roms once CM7 is in beta stage, THEN I'll stick with it!
