Hi guys.
It's been a while since I test different ROM, I flash kernels ...
I do not even remember how was working my phone before that !
So yesterday I reflash the official Orange ROM for France, of course in Froyo 2.2, and brace yourself ... With the stock kernel ... My phone has never worked as well !
It's so fast, smooth ... Reminds me of the good times when I got this phone in my hands for the first time
All this to say, think well before flashing a ROM, put yourself in mind that Android 4.xx, or even 2.3.x, are not necessarily done to our little phone. Nothing will be faster for a daily ROM as Froyo ...
I think I would not leave again Froyo
After that you're only master of your phone, these are just opinions

Same for me, I tested all rom for G3 but i'm back to froyo because it very smooth and 2.3 or ics don't have video on HQ in youtube :banghead:

Well don't forget guys that cm7 and ics both are in WiP. So it is obvious that froyo well be better.
So its not correct to compare a complete froyo and an incomplete ics or cm7.
For me froyo wasn't so good because of the crapy touchwiz and no data2sd. I will stick with cm7

Today i came back to JPM from CM7 and the phone is at least 3 times faster...
It's faster...but I miss ICS when I'm on JPU...and I miss JPU when I'm on ICS...I'd like to have a GSII to have touchwizz and ICS

Even though ICS and GB arent complete bt still they are way smooth and better in processing than froyo....think of it as technology...it gets better with every version....n it seems laggy becoz of the fimg drivers and if now when the fimg drivers are completely fixed you can feel that GB is way better than Froyo...I think Almost all features are up and running now...almost......
I know that they are WiP, but i just warn some new users who wants flash those build without reading or follow topics.
It's sure that an official or a final port will be better that Froyo, but keep in mind that our phone just got 256 MB of RAM. Doesn't good for multi-tasking, and GB and ICS are improving in this case.
I hope some day we could have a full port / official GB/ICS, but with this phone, we couldn't enjoy all the possibility of those ROM's, i dont think so, maybe i'm wrong.
PS : Link2SD workin very well with Froyo. I never understand what's the difference of app2SD and data2SD, but i dont care if the app works
I find that 2.2 fairs the same by way of performace in comparison to cm7. But honestly i would prefer cm7 (if it didnt hav the glitches) because of how customisable evrythn is!

Kyrilos v10 is based on cm7 right, do you guys have any experience with that? I've been on Froyo, tried a couple of roms, and my phone's been acting up lately. thinking about flashing to stock. It's easy for me tho, I just need something simple with less battery drain for my girlfriend. She got herself that white g3, but I'm not so inclined to test things on her phone. Scared of bricking it and then what?
Honestly, in my experience you can't brick brick a phone! I mean you really have to try to brick it and even then you have to have a combination of bad moves and bad luck for you to unequivocally brick it!!! That being said, Kyrillos 10 is based on cm7 and I tried it and loved it. The battery does last longer, it does have fantastic speed and usability and with s2e you can save a lot of internal memory without sacrificing speed if you use a good class sd card (6+). The main difference though is how customisable it is in comparison to Froyo. Nonetheless, I flashed back to 9.5 mainly because the video camera didn't work which is a must for me. As I understand it your gf would be interested more in something stable with good battery life. Best bet for g3 is v9.5. And it comes with a very well written, detailed installation guide (if I say so myself) which is about to be updated...
EDIT: Apologies for speaking before having a better overview. I am not going to bore you with details but basically concerning your SD's class it seems that this is not necessarily the deciding factor (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633) and by way of speed tests I researched from other sources on the internet (e.g. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/microsdhc-memory-card-performance,3011-12.html) it seems that the Sandisk SDSQ-8192-AC11M seems to be the overall best buy. I have already contacted a reseller in Germany over e-bay to confirm if he stocks them and if so I will be buying, testing and updating!
Best Rom I've ever experienced is kyrillos' . Recently upgraded it to v10 with CM7. I got my cell now exactly where I wanted it to be ever. Will use it till someone give me a free beer to switch on to something else

Exactly! You're warning people not to flash CM7 after all the hard work Marcellusbe has done and i'm sure there are many more people who completely disagree with you but they aren't 'warning' people not to flash a eclair/froyo/ics ROM are they? Basically, i think it is wrong that you are making other people formulate opinions based on your opinion when they should try every ROM themselves and make their own judgements like you (and I) have done.
Bro, it's just a warn ... Of course, if i have to advice someone for a flash, i'll say CM7 from Marcel' without thinking anything else !
I respect all the job doing from all devs here, but i just warn "new users" cause we can see some post in general section like "Help meeeee, brick my phone ???"
Just wanna clarify it, and make new users read slowly the steps of flashing...
No offense, anywhere
that is exactly the reason why I still make custom froyo roms once CM7 is in beta stage, THEN I'll stick with it!

I have been looking into 2.3 Rom and there are few out there as of today that include gingerbread. I am not sure which is best, what would be recommended by users experience.
I did take a look at the Wiki Page about roms and browsed through the pages.
I would like to get some feedback from you guys that already updated their roms to what would you recommend and pros and cons that you found.
Thank you
Cyanogenmod 7 is the undisputable best. No other ROM will work as flawlessy. A manufacturer could not have written a better ROM. It's perfect in every aspect. If it's your first time messing with ROMs then I would suggest this one because otherwise you will have issues with other ROMs. Besides every function works for CM7. GPS, camera, 4g, etc...

You are telling me that those ROMs work as perfect as CM7? I don't believe it.
Depends on your preference. Sense or aosp? A lot of them still have some bugs but if you search the forums you can find fixes. Just make sure to make a backup before you flash! What may work great for you might not for someone else due to different hardware and what not. Trial and error is the only way!

...WELL! from my experience flashing roms, if you want to flash and roll about your day and not worry then a sense rom like FRESH or Mikfroyo or Sprintlovers is the way to go.
if you like to tinker and update and check in on responses about issues on a daily basis, a AOSP rom like cm7 is the way to go.

Hardly. Marginally. Barely.
Its not drastic. If at all. Only because it is, essentially, CM7 minus some 'system bloat.' Don't believe the night and day hype.

I've exclusively used CM7 for quite some time now...just switched over to evodeck and it's been a flawless experience. CM7 has given me random issues here and there. If someone asked me which one I would recommend between the two? evodeck for sure as of now. You also get 2.3.4 with evodeck instead of 2.3.3 with CM7.
I've been using Misfit's port of Shift Rom and its amazing. Gingerbread with Sense 2.1=WIN!!! lol

woe! ok, ok you special, everything works for you and i know it is for many but you still the minority...so you flashed cm7 and dont care to flash a nightly or mod it? thats the most fascinating part about CM!
dont get me wrong CM is an awesome developer and ROM but thats the price some have to pay for cutting edge ****!
if you read the threads the majority of posts are issues and how to go about fixing them, not just this thing is flawless and doesnt need anymore updates!
if that was the case you would see stable releases once in a blue moon.
im running UD ROM which is a variant of CM7. i got most things operational but get glitches every now and then, but i know my way enough to figure it out so it dont efffect me much... but for someone inquiring about flashing AOSP i was just voicing my opinion and merely stating that if you are the type to get involved and join in to discuss what can help with the advancement of CM and AOSP, as pros and cons as asked by OP...
dickhead!
My aosp daily is Kings out of this world and my daily sense is Evolvedrom shifted. I second JRE77 though. My phone doesn't like certain roms that work great on another phone. Just use RA recovery, have a good working backup, wipe everything and flash away. You'll find one. Half the fun of being rooted is trying a bunch a different roms. Lord knows I have and still do even though I have my daily drivers
If your new to roms I would try CM7 first. I personally prefer myn's stuff because I like sense better.

Hi all,
My phone was on kyrillos ROM 5.5 and recently my wife also bought a SG3 i5800.
Her phone had android 2.1 on it by default, so I could compare the phones side by side.
What I found:
-her phone (android 2.1) "fully installed with apps" was smoother than mine, even when my phone was clocked to 800Mhz "fixed" high performance with fugumod 2.4 beta3.
The smoother behaviour of froyo 2.1 best came out in a game "fruit ninja".
On my froyo 2.2 + kyrillos 5.5 i had choppier graphics when the screen was very full of fruit and lots of sounds and you swiped the screen at the same time.
The android 2.1 though had no issues with this at all, the gameplay was smooth with no difference of busy graphics, sounds and screen swiping (slicing the fruit) at the same time.
As a test I put the latest froyo 2.1 release from samfirmware on my phone, and now I'm enjoying smooth phone also, no overclocking necessary and great battery life too.
ofcourse linpack now shows 3000 again, while it was 9000 before, but in practice the phone is faster....can somebody explain that?
So I will stay on froyo 2.1 for now, how it lasts in time, and maybe later I try a custom ROM again on froyo ...when I am in an experimental mood again.
I didn't use ext4 partitions before the downgrade, so no issues for me regarding filesystems
As a free gift now I can kill some tasks that don't restart themselves automatically.
BTW the camera works great, no crashes in froyo 2.1
When do we see the NEW custom 2.1 ROMS appear ??? )

This is not the 2.1 vs 2.2 issue. This is STOCK vs CUSTOM issue. This is what I'm trying to say all the time, but I get misunderstood.
Try the stock 2.2 vs stock 2.1 an you'll see that 2.2 is indeed better and faster than 2.1. As offensive might this sound, no offense is intended, but custom ROMs slow your phone down, they are broken and poorly done. You may have installed your custom ROM the wrong way or did something wrong while installing, but still, the FACT remains, custom ROMs for SG3 are broken and some tweaks and hacks don't work as intended.

Hahaha your words scream FLAME ME but the fact is that I have to agree. Even the custom themes are buggy (not all but most of them). They seem to be incomplete, the text is somehow misplaced, especially in dialog boxes and the download percentage in notification area is unreadable... I have a theory as to the cause of that... All we see are CUSTOMISED roms and themes. If someone makes something original most of these issues will be resolved I believe. I am no developer nor trying to be smart. I respect the developers and I understand how hard is to make a fully working rom. I thank all of them especially Lestat who imo has the best rom. But the only one TRUE developer has to be marcellusbe. Only he is trying something original. Let's hope he pulls it off.

Ok jazux. Your team too. Listen I don't want anyone to be offended but he (and his team) are the only ones who compile aosp. Something not easy as well as ORIGINAL. If I'm not mistaken all your team does is to port apps and the whole MIUI feeling to Froyo. Correct? but just to let you and everybody else know: the problem is that everyone thinks this is easy and CM7 is hard as,hard but really this is not something that can be done like that MIUI is super hard to port because its designed to run on high-end devices and thus we have to sacrifise some things to get it working on loooooow-end phone. and MIUI is based on android 2.3 wich means our MIUI willl also be based on 2.3
I understand Clarkkov and respect his opinion as user but I don't like to think that way.
You can't ask ROM cookers here to deliver professional ROM like Samfirmware.
EDIT: In fact, when you got your SG3, it has a stock ROM. If you went here to try custom ROM, that would say the original was not good enought for you.
Some month ago, when I bought my SG3, I knew nothing about ROMs and Android. Thanks to ROM Cookers and some advanced users, I learnt a lot while flashing (again and again) ROMs they made.
OK, theses ROMs could be buggy, could made your phone slower ... but they also brings to you some stuffs that are not in the stock ROMs. If it's buggy or badly done, users should give feedbacks to the developpers to help them and solve theses issues.
Android is complex and usefull infos are hard to find sometimes .... I say bravo to ROM cooker to achieve a working ROM, even if it has some issues, because it's not an easy task espcially if you are not a programmer and know nothing about linux/android.

I think clarkkov has a problem or two with some of the developers. How wud u feel if i say the stock theme was much better than the theme u ported? That is what happens when u try to criticise the custom rom developers. they are much better than u, atleast they are trying to get something better for the users.

what is happening here ?
Hi guys,
My intention was to inform you with my experiences on android 2.1 and certainly not starting a heavy discussion about custom ROMs and criticism about ROM cookers/designers.
I think the guys who make custom ROMS are great, enabling features that normally are not available in stock ROMS.
Only thing is that my end-user experience with android 2.1 is very good, smooth gaming and no camera issues anymore.
So.... as i wrote earlier.... would there be a "challenge" to make custom roms based on froyo 2.1 ?? Maybe a poll is an option to find out
Br.
Michel
Im also on Kyrillios 5.7 and my phone is a lot faster than with 2.1 .... try to flash some different versions of 2.2 or flash one version twice to see if it becoms better. stock or modded
Just to make some things clear to you:
You say froyo 2.1, but it is android 2.1 eclair OR android 2.2 froyo. Froyo 2.1 is wrong
@remygo
Hi,
I would maybe switch to froyo 2.2 when the game called "fruit ninja" runs smooth even with busy graphics and sound and slicing. Can you confirm it is smooth also on kyrillos 5.7?
Br. Michel
after reading the first post i seriously wanted to give eclair another chance.. which i already did once but the devil didn't let me be in peace as i had downgraded. but i was wanting to give it another go.., but i tried I5800XWJPI from samfirmware which is a may release for Europe comes up with a different language.
i was very impressed with the speed improvement as well the the new market and new maps were built into it which is the first two apps i checked for version coz i loved the new market app.
gps locks in seconds so i took some tips mentioned by clarkkov to optimize the sg3.
i will see how the battery life goes with this one. phone is still not rooted nor OC'd no custom kernels yet..
great
Well i found fruit ninja 1.3.3 on 4shared, incl. Zen mode!
This version looks much better on my apollo sg3.
The stuttering i saw before on froyo was already solved by loading eclair 2.1 but now it also looks much sharper.
Thanks for this advice. It really helped me.

Well not ALL of us.
I came here because I always mod the hell out of EVERY device I own. (Playstation, Wii, smartphones, windows, etc...)
But getting back to the op... there were lots of things I liked better about my 2.1 (starting with the keyboard and the wallpapers mine came with.) But other than the fact that 2.2 runs seems to run Angry Birds a bit slower... I've been cool with it and haven't had any of the camera problems and other problems people have had.
this may be outdated/unnecessary but i figured that i'd share / hope others would share too
im still skeptical about moving on to ICS for the vibrant just bc i need a phone that works 100% correctly all the time... so im still on froyo.
currently running bionix fishman mod final2 w/ bali-x @ 1.2ghz
essentially froyo tweaked in many ways w/ the appwidgetpicker
along with the miui camera, s.gps2 for gps fix, setcpu, and bln
is anyone else flashing any additional necessary files when they flash their roms??

Fishman is good. My needs are different. I need a Rom that is atleast 2.2.1. So the capacitive buttons dont blind me on each screen press. I'd recommend ultimate rom or biwinning with the sense or sgs2 theme. I also use Bali undervolt kernel. If you haven't already test out the modems for your area. For instance for me its KB1.

I was on ICS Passion and 100% functionality is a stretch. Browsing through the thread reveals that damn near everyone else has problems too. I have issue with these devs that claim everything works when it's clearly a lie.
I'm using Fishman's 2.2 rom right now. No need to flash any other files for my needs. So far it's been pretty good.

i agree... im still on the fence of flashing an ICS rom but i think ill wait another couple of weeks bc im in no hurry to move on from a 100% functional rom
personally i think the miui camera is essential and am not sure why more people dont flash it over their roms. i use that & the stock hd recorder for a better camera experience
i also went back to a 2.2 rom...TARD...can yall post the links to the extras...i would love to try that s.gps fix...think what it was...

couldn't find the thread but... here it is

just flash through cwm. (be my first thanks if you would please )
CM9's 16B is so functional that I put it on my Dad's phone, and he says it's running much better than it did before on Bionix. The only issue he and I have been having is the GPS, which never has worked from the beginning for us anyways, and very minor things (like the menu for toggle widgets is called lockscreens or something).
ICS is pretty awesome. You may want to give it a shot... I recommend the Icy Glitch kernel to go with CM9.
Is the official GB available for this yet?

No, I'll be amazed if it ever is since the vibrant is close to 2 years old.

when you say never worked, do you mean it as GPS ideally should? or even to the low standards of how the vibrant's GPS is supposed to work?
personally since everything works 100% as best as it possibly can right now on my vibrant with bionix fishman mod without a hardware gps fix, i'm very reluctant to move onto ICS if the GPS wont even lock within around 30 secs or so like i can get it to do with froyo especially if it is something i need eventually
minor things like menu names i can definitely deal with, but if froyo's GPS works better overall compared to an ICS rom, i see absolutely no reason to make the switch with this phone. if i need ICS that badly, i will get a new phone

agreed on that point... i would money down that an official GB release will never happen for the vibrant.
hi all
whats the best, smoothest, ICS rom for the A500 ?
I'm after the best stock ICS experience, no fancy addon etc.
I want speed !!!!
I want smoothness !!!
go to the dev section , what your asking is for 2 totally different things but you want a stock , go to icyliscious!
Even better, go to the Dev forum and do a search on your question. It's asked at least twice a day and you should find an answer.

Well, then, you will want to wait till an official ICS is released.
If you bother to read, you will see, they are "leaked" versions. AKA Beta.
But if you want some advice, and you want the least amount of issues, well, Icylecious. So far, his seems to be somewhat trouble free.
If you want some extra eye candy, and tons of scripts that does who knows what, well, you can try Flexreeper. Some folks like it.
But don't come crying back when your CWM Recovery gets fubarred, along with the backup images.
It's all Beta, and anything can happen,
my advice would be that if you really have to ask . You really should wait for Acer to push the OTA. not knowing your background / flashing and tech abilities.
But i would totally agree with MOSCOW .
Nothing personal if you are experienced in flashing and can handle a disaster. flash them all and see what you like best..
GOOD LUCK..

Sorry to tell but Icylecious is a little outdated , not compaired to 0.014 , 0.022 but compaired to 1.031.00 got some good improvements like better touch screen response in games like shadow gun is now working (where with previous leaks it wasn't)and better camera.
Tons of scripts ?
Not only extra eye-candy , ring , development settings , extra widgets , tweaked kernel , etc ...................
Some like it ? 232207 hits is not some.
Oh and it's flexreaper .
I havent used icyliscious ,I just know KJ and his stuff is usally stable , and if you dont know what your doing he can show you exactly what to do to flash , now with that said ,I have been using Civatos flexreaper since he opened the leaked rom ,never had a failure , glitches ,sure its a leaked rom ,so you really dont know what your gonna get, but it sure is fast! Also running Amon Ra , never haver had a problem there either ,Ive gone back to HC twice , no problems , but I'll stick with flex for now!
The best advice is to go over to the dev section and READ!! Read everything and if you want to try something , most of the guys cooking roms will help ya (if they have the time)!

WOW . Im a few versions behind. Been slacking with spring cleaning and yard work.I will catch up this weekend .
I use Thor ICS 144 as his is the only ROM that actually make my GPS work.
my gps is working ,but I must admit its not its not anything I really care about ,my acer is basically for fun and testing stuff , I got so many other gadgets its just hard to keep up , but the a500 is the funnest!
anything wrong with Taboonay? i flashed it a couple of days ago, and its running awesome - aside from SOD, which seems to have been fixed by flashing the sod-fix going around, its been flawless.
I've been using Flexreeper and I really like it. So far stable too.
I tried the Taboonay and couldn't get the GPS to work even the patch. Other than that it was fast and smooth. Moving on to Lightspeed 4.4.
I just got my a500 from ebay and need to root it first (Its 3.2 stock at he moment) but think I will be going down the flexreaper root.

After SOD fix update the stock camera effect doesn't seem to work anymore, FCes everytime I try to turn them on.
I've Been using flexreaper v11 for a week now.. It's very smooth and stable. Backcamera turned to Rainbows, but it dont REALLY care because i don't use it anyways.
I'm running Thor's icsrom v158. Absolutely love it as it sticks to the stock android with customizations. No Acer ring, no bloatware just android.

Same here. I just flashed to the R12.5 release and that is really smooth and everything works. Mind you, it isn't 'stock', but there are a lot of optional things to make it either themed or unthemed

Dear fcmugen, I don't think there's anything stock in a CM9 ROM with tweaked framework and a custom overclockable kernel. So it's faaaaar from "stock" Android
FLEXREAPER-ICS-4.0.3 R12.5
good
Hello XDA,
First! Sorry, just had to get that out of the way.
I just purchased a used MyTouch 4G and I'm browsing through some roms. I know people here generally hate the "Omg wut rom iz de best!!?" threads, so I am going to be a bit more specific.
I've tried several several of the roms here and I cant say that I've really found what I'm looking for. A lot of the roms are basically alpha, slow, eat battery, or are generally incomplete. So I ask: What is the most developed, stable, complete, and polished MyTouch 4G jelly rom?
What do you use?
Thanks
If you get a jelly bean rom that was updated within the last month, you'll be fine, i could make that shameless pitch for SuperGalaxy
Essentially, all the roms released have their own bugs, if you want something that's complete, use AOSPX
I try most of the JB roms (if not all) and there is not a single one without a bug. The common bug for ICS and JB is the screen flicking. All of them have kernel problems. CM104.2.1 like to freeze( in addition to screen flicking). The others have camera problems or wi-fi (hot spot, tethering). Some report too much battery use. You just have to try and see with one have the least bugs. Some MyTouch 4g did not had the screen problem. It is a puzzle. Just go for it and try.
good luck finding a fully stable and fully working ICS+ ROM for the MyTouch 4G...i suggest you go to Gingerbread, most stable there. if you like Sense, i'd suggest Android Revolution HD .
but if you absolutely insist on ICS+, then i suggest MyTouchUX, the original and first ROM based on the Galaxy S III until them PermaBricks decided to copy us hahahhahaha

Well I have to up my post count so I will contribute that ViperTouch has been good on battery and stable for me the past 2 or 3 weeks and I usually stick to CM 7.2 kang ... not a sense guy but impressed. Tried some of the others mentioned and I think you would be happy with those as well depending on wants.

Gotta up my post count, too so here it goes... Coderz's v133 1st, then Cnote's v12 with the updated 61 or 62 kernal 2nd. Cnote's v13 seems a bit laggy to me. Awesome, saranhai & 0.0 have done great work too, but I haven't seen any new roms from them in a while. They might have moved on. Those are the most stable I've tried, but I apparently have the good screen.
