So are you satisfied with you Arc? I am coming from an X10, so this is a huge improvement. Everything is extremely fast. Whats your say?
properly awesome.. I seem to be having none of the problems some other owners are reporting..

I had a N1 for a year and now this Arc, I am verry happy specially because it will get rooted in no time and get lot of roms
I'm 3+ year android user and love to see how it developed. the arc has the best screen and camera on a phone that i used.
I am in love with it I cam also from X10 (X10 was my first Android)
Arc is exctly what I wanted to have and settle for a year or more.
All of the features, great camera and design.
SE looks devoted to upgrades and cooperation with Google so...
Very good phone. Reminds me happy X1 times.
Still using X1 which was my best phone ever =) Apart from the classical Nokia 7110
But I already ordered my Arc and I am so looking forward to test my first Android =)
I'm more than satisfied with my arc.
My first phone was an Ericsson GH337 back in 95-96, and since then I've had plenty of motorolas, SE's, Nokias, a few HTC's (WM) and last my X10.
All my phones have had some niggling issue, but so far this thing is leaving me with nothing to complain about. I expected a lot, but it's actually better than I expected.
The call volume/quality and external speaker are outstanding. Phone runs smooth as butter with no lag so far. Screen is brilliant. It's THIN and BEAUTIFUL
My GF also got one, and is amazed how much better it is than her iphone. She's 100% converted to android now
Actually the only thing missing for me is email integration into timescape.
Comming from a Sony Ericsson Satio i am very very happy. The touchscreen is very sensitive and the phone works at the speed i touch it.
Videos play instantly where on the satio i had the green buffering circle.
Emulators and games work better and angry birds is excellent compared to the java satio version.
The only nuisance is the Auto screen lock which means i have to enter my pattern lock each time the screen blanks out.
The Arc kicks the lamas ass!!
Now that I've been able to get rid of the crap that Orange pre-installed on the phone, I'm very happy with it.
When I first got it, the battery life was really bad, but now that I've conditioned the battery, it is preforming much better.
I would recommend it to anyone, although I would tell them to go somewhere like Phones4U or Carphone Warehouse to get one without any of the operator's software.

Same with any phone though.
I'd say I'm satisfied but not completely so.
Yes it's a good handset and I like it but it's not perfect.
Unfortunately the poll doesn't seem to cater for people in my situation...
I have a galaxy s as well as an arc, both are excellent phones, I know this is going to sound crazy but I prefer touchwiz to sony UX. Im really missing the toggles on notifications shade, the smart keypad, swiping to call contacts and swype.
But the arc on the other hand is probably the best looking phone evar! great screen, amazing camera and is super fast. So back to the question, am i satisfied. Hell yeah!
I like it but it can be extremely laggy at times. I expected better really but its still better than my desire i guess

Can be installed separately.
As for the rest of it, I'm not familiar enough with the Galaxy S to be able to advise how to duplicate such functionality.
the satisfaction is relative
satisfied :
+bravia trample all others
+fast charging time (bout 60-70mins to 100%)
+sound output quality (using head/earphone)
+smoothness
+design
disappointment :
-divx playback (my worst disappointment)
-stock widgets
-some software bugs
-goddamn media transfer mode (disconnected or not responding after some time)
relative :
±camera (ip4 details are better, but if under low light owns)
±battery life (sometime drained fast, sometime slowly drained)
±auto-brightness
±glossy finish (looks elegant, but fingerprint magnet)
but bout 99% ppl who saw me using arc had those 'wow' face
even my boss who is timid said, "holy **** man, it's so cool"

I'm still on the fence because of those things as well.
There's actually a fix for all those (widgetsoid, dialer one, cyanogenmod) but of course it would have been nice if we have those out of the box.
Nonetheless, Arc is light year ahead of all other phones in terms of beauty!
whats everyones average free memory during normal use? Im trying to figure out if this lag is due to my widgets as my defy did very similar with the same setup but I put it down to being a slower phone.
Does anyone else have lag?
my arcs going back tuesday, mobiles.co have no replacements and have no idea when theyre guna get some more in, ive 3 issues, when in a call the speaker crackles/pops like, second is my camera keeps going to a black screen and cant do anything till i reboot, 3rd is i get some pretty bad lag, id like to thing ive just a dodgey unit, but theyve no replacements so ive to cancel/return it, and either wait till they get more in or get it elswhere, other than that i love the phone

after X1...i feel little apprehensive to buy another sony ericsson phone..the way they ditched their customers..i kinda feel betrayed..the phone feels like crap now...outdated OS...laggy interface, finger- unfriendly.
X panels was a joke
- how useful is timescape/mediascape?
now saw the forum..and X10 also has sufficient amount of bugs compared to other Android phones...infact much more than any other high end android phone
it is a cool phone..looks classy..good to show off.
-but does it perform decently as a phone?...will i have problems making phone calls & texting?
-and will rooting come on X10? ...coz i want a phone i can customize later..and not a phone which becomes dinosaur like X1

I believe you answered your own question
I'll be honest,
I was fortunate enough to have an HTC Desire for 2 weeks before I got the X10...
I sold the desire because I was under the impression that the only things I didn't like about the X10 were to do with Android 2.1 which would be sorted in the update.
After playing with the X10 I'm starting to miss the Desire - the camera seemed to be better with crisper images (surprising?! YEP!!) but again, I'm hoping this will all change with updates, so I'm kind of relying on SE to sort all this out with updates.
I do like the X10, don't get me wrong, BUT I think I will like it even more assuming that I'm right that the updates will sort out the issues.
You are right to be apprehensive. I jumped on this a soon as it was released in the UK. Even though their was a lot of controversy about the specs I bought this.
I also knew the Desire was about to be released to at around the same time.

MediaScape is very pretty indeed but i still find myself using the stock music app from time to time for the best functionality.
With Mediascape I have noticed that it does take a few button presses to get to where you want to go. This is down to both the menu structure and the fact on my current firmware the app doesn't always respond to my key presses. I have also found that the pics that i have tagged regularly revert back to their untagged state. The ability to create playlists using Mscape on the device is also lacking.
I tried setting Timescape as my homescreen but it suffered from serious slow down on launch. The app draw was also affected so I reverted back to the stock android's 3 homescreens and the phone was lightening quick again.

In short NO. as phone it is hit a miss. The In-Call Volume is far too quiet and and turned up to max volume on 1.6 you get background interference.
In addition to this there are no initiate call\ end call hard keys sometime feels like there too many options/button presses to make and receive calls.
It works but I feel that it's not as intuative as HTC's own design.
Texting.. Again out of the box texting can be quite a task as the SE keyboard doesnt always recognise key presses. However this can be narrowed down to specific keys when it happens.
You can overcome this though by installing the HTC keyboard or by using Better keyboard from the market.
One more thing to note with text is that TimeScape offers full conversation history with images too and it all looks very tidy. However when you want to respond to message you are taken into what looks like different app that looks less impressive. On the plus side the sms app works in landscape.
On the Plus side, the screen is glorious, browsing is a joy, the OS although not 2.1 is still a joy to use (Comparing to my old Hero on 1.5).
Google maps with Nav and the Camera are also great.
I can't say im completely satisfied with the X10 and on occasion I have been tempted to swap for a Desire. However I have this foolish hope that SE will come good and make this device what it was designed to be. I'm sure you will have heard about the planned updates.

I think Root will come eventually but at the moment this device isn't as popular as other android handsets because of SE's past record. It's also evident that alot of people are tempted by the x10, but are not sure wether to make the commitment.
HTC is the safe choice (tried and tested) and I thats why they get root first.
don't do my mistake x10 is shi*ty htc rules ,i regretdd leaving my hd2 ,i will threw the x10 into garbage and return my hd2 to be my main device ,or buy a desire . the x10 feels to be a prerelease prototype device ,very un usable

Right... Very unusable and you threw it in the garbage and then returned to WinMo..
Something tells me theres a fair bit of bull**** floating around.
Infact, coming from the HD2 to the X10, the HD2 is much more unusable than the X10. The X10 is FAR FAR more responsive than any WinMo device

I agree, I came from HD2 to Desire ( for 3 weeks), and now to X10
Desire was a great phone , but lacked that wow factor, was a little bit too boring in design ( personal choice of course)
Reason I want back to the X10 was the screen size, I found the Desire too small.
When we get 2.1 or 2.2 on this phone, it will be the best around, so we need to pray for root as soon as possible. But as usual, in 3 months, there will be something newer out there.
I want to tell you my story : I had the same experience with SE X1 so I was looking for another choice, first thing I decided NO MORE WM , X1 was my first and last windows mobile . I read about Android but never try, I was looking on the net, reading reviews and previews , I found out that the Desire would be the best, but its design was boring not like the fascinating X10.
X10 is the first SE Android experience because of that there might be some bugs, but now after one month using it I can tell you two words GO AHEAD .... that exactly the device which I was looking for, changing from X1 to X10 is like from hell to heaven .
I think a lot of great things will come soon : X10 will be rooted then it will get Android 2.1 (in Q4 2010)
P.S: as an Arabic user I am suffering that the device doesn't support my language, but it's still my favorite

No, that's not true. There's always an over representation of people who have problems on forums! And to tell you the truth, I have no problems at all with my phone. Bug free and lightning fast with the latest update. Mind you that I never use Timescape or Mediascape, but that's me! And the Desire has bugs too.
Hmmm didnt you started a similar thread before?
If you i had given you my opinion there. In short x10 is not a bad phone. If your expectation is high then you're likey to get dissapointed. Desire is a better option. But not the best looking phone imo.
And dont let timescape and medisca
pe affect your decision they are hardly useful
You are right. We cannot habe arabic without rooting so. It is one of biggest problems I had faced

Why is the Desire a better option? Because it has Android 2.1? Or is it because it displays gray colors as pink? Or maybe because it is unusable in the sun? Or maybe its the poor reception it receives or crappy pictures it takes? The desire has plenty of negatives that people are writing about all over the place, but it's still a GREAT phone. For my money I prefer the X10, some people will prefer the Desire, and that's fine, but my expectations were extremely high with the X10 and it has met every one of them, it's a fantastic phone.

Agreed, i had my x10 for a day and its been excellent.
I've had a few niggles with the phone, but nothing major.. I love it, such a great bit of kit.. fast, responsive, clear picture, generally very good ui.. have persevered with Mediascape and quite like it now.. just occasionally use the default mail app to make playlist (which irritatingly can't do in mediascape.. )
managing to get a full day out of the battery now too, and that's with quite a bit of use..
so.. onto OS/ firmware - They've already released a couple of minor build changes.. and another bigger one coming out in the next week or so.. then Android 2.1 (probably not 2.2 or later) in Q4 this year.. I'm not bothered about MT, but then I'm not a big gamer.... all things considered though. A1.6 is pretty damned good anyway.. (my missus has a HTC legend which is great.. but I still prefer my X10..!!
I too came from an X1 to an X10, and couldn't be happier. Even with the X1 modded with an HTC interface, this phone is so much more enjoyable to use. Such a smooth and responsive user experience compared to that one.
My friend has a Desire btw, and on the same network, on the same physical spot, my X10 has better signal reception and higher download speeds. Plus, for some reason the X10 both starts and shuts down WAY faster. So the Desire isn't all that much more desireable in my experience.

Sorry for being blunt, i was actually reading this thread on the phone and couldnt type long.
Our hesitating friend here is looking for something that he/she can show off. No doubt both phones are good looking physically and GUI wise. And the X10 suit my taste more.
However you have to admit the animation on the phone is just questionable. There are noticeable minor lags. The most obvious is when you hold your thumb on the home screen to change wallpapers, the window jerks open. Such a simple animation and yet it cant be done nicely on a 1ghz cpu. Hence I dare to say the desire does a better job at this. The animations are so fluid its almost on par with the iphone. You might say i'm being picky, i admit that, thats prob because my expectation was even more higher than yours.
Look nocturnal, both phones have good and bad points, it all depends on what features both phones offer matter to you most, and what are the bad points you can ignore. I'm a pessimist, I like my things by accepting their cons. Im also a X1 user as I mentioned in your earlier thread. Upgrading from that piece of junk to X10 is definitely a huge leap. I maybe complaining about the smallest details i can find on X10, but that does not mean Im not happy with the phone. I know iphone is the only phone(according to my experience) that can do the most fluid GUI, (HTC second) but can i live with no-multitasking, apple being a control freak etc etc? No
I'd give X10 a 8/10, X1 a 2/10.
Pass
I have only purchased SE phones for the past seven years. My last three were the p900a, p910i, and currently I own the x1i. Prior to SE I only purchased Motorola. When the X10 came out I decided to purchase but also wanted to wait to see want x10 owners were saying. I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for enough positives to go ahead a take the x10 plunge. I have learned the hard way that SE gets great hardware out there and is slow to get the software side up and running appropriately, but that is not a deal breaker by itself.
After waiting for several issues to be resolved before purchasing and reading the volume of issues, I have finally decided to give the x10 a pass all together. No, I will wait for the issues facing the x10 to be worked out in the next SE. Like maybe the GX1! That will be sweet when/if it arrives to market.
The reason I have decided to wait: Unlike the p900, p910, and x1, the x10's issues are too involved with the reasons I would buy this ppc.
1) I prefer a hard keyboard and the with the issues facing the on-screen keyboard, the rest of the phone would really have to be superstar to over come this issue for me. Not a deal breaker by itself.
2) Timescape lags, contact photo not clean, issues with google email and facebook functionality, plus doesn't sync'n well and, lack of thoughtfulness with the controls.
3) Battery life is not optimised for the X10's performance. Not a deal breaker
4) Flash 10.1 not released yet and it is not yet known what issues will arise with working on the X10. Current flash players isn't really a proper flash player and video hangs at 50% complete. Issue for me
5) Running 1.6 and given SE track record the phone will get one up date to possibly the 2.1 in NOVEMBER. And, after that x10 owners will be on their own. Plus spring will be the launch of SE's next product. For me this is the biggest issue.
6) Suspicious that the screen protector that is included and shipped attached is really covering up a more serious issue with the actual screen itself. I do not see this as SE being thoughtful. Other wise why not just put it in the box and let the user decide? Some markets even got two screen protectors. One attached and second one to attach at a later time. It smells an awful lot like a screen manufacturing problem to me. Time will tell. But still an issue for me.
These are just a few off the top of my head. None are really deal breakers by themselves, and I know some will be addressed in June with an update and the others will be fixed in November. But why so long? Way too long if SE expects to keep me as a continued long term customers who always buys their flagship products. I also know that some will never be fixed. I would rather wait for the X20 with it's improvements and fixes to the issues facing the X10. Because I know there will not be enough changes to justify trading up from the X10 to the X20 should I buy now. I made that mistake with jumping from the p900 to the p910.
Here is what I would like to see SE and Google under the same roof. This would truly be an international success story. Ericsson's connectivity, Sony's ground breaking portable hardware, Googles OS, and purchase a forth company (purely software) to bring the apps into the 21st century. SE needs to buy a major software developer right now. SE's issues are always related to software and it that take too frick'n long to fix, if they get fixed at all. And, if you decide to get the fix yourself you void your warranty and can't get auto updates any more. Insane!
So unless something seriously ground breaking happens with this X10 I will hold on to my X1 a bit longer.

you said it all
fm1776, none of those are issues to me especially no. 2 which I completely disagree with, no. 3 is also not the case with my phone, and the Android 1.6 being upgraded late this year ignores the fact that SE allows you to do the same and more that any Nexus 2.1 phone can do. Certainly a hard keyboard, if that is what you require, makes the x10 not the right phone for you. I am kind of shocked that you had the x1 but have passed on the x10 though, it is night and day between these phones, a lightyear leap, really.
the X10 reminds me a lot of the PS3. when the PS3 came out, it was dissed left and right. fans lost faith.
look what happened now? PS3 is killing it. and it too had to get firmware updates. and after some major updates, it was rockin'
i feel almost the same about the X10 as i did when i purchased a PS3 and my friends clowned me for it. now, it's not a laughing matter.
X10 IS getting 2.1 and that is a fact (for now) and i think if SE gives us what we want, it will be a win-win sooner or later.
so far the phone is a let down for me personally.
i don't hate it. patience and time will tell about how i feel about the phone when it's all said and done.
but as a phone, it doesn't do the 'phone' particularly well at this stage. low call volumes, along with a vibration that you can't really feel and a battery life that you can not really depend on is something really bugs me.
Hi everyone
Have recently moved to the x10i, previously owned the desire. Have been looking around the forums as well as google for some answers but could not find them. Would appreciate if you could help:
1. Reject call with sms - any app for this (or maybe I missed it in the settings)?
2. Turn to mute functionality - do I need an app for this in x10? if yes, recommend one pls
3. Contact groups - group sms, email needed for the google contact groups I have
Thats it for now. Thanks!
Guys, with so many android users, and so many of you xperia users, surely someone would know ?? Would greatly appreciate any help...would not have asked for it if I had found anything by searching..
for the second one why not just use the silent mode?
settings - sounds then turn on silent mode.
Or just use one of the many shortcut widgets in the market place to toggle it between silent, vibrate and full sound.
THere is a quick settings widget built into the phone that does this too.

If you're not already using Handcent SMS then go install it immediately, it's by far one of the best apps on the market. It will allow you to send group sms.
gmail allows you to make contact groups which I would think allow you to send group emails. The stock Dialer app on the X10 doesn't have contact groups, but I believe there are better paid for apps on the market for that kind of functionality, do some more searching because I know it's been discussed someone on XDA I just can't remember where.
Question for you: How do you like the X10 compared to the Desire? I'm debating about making the switch :S
FYI try posting questions like these in the apps section, you'll probably get a better/quicker response.
Hey, thanks for the responses
To answer your queries rvictorg:
1. Voicemail is not an option for me here, so reject with sms is what I am looking for
2. yep, (indesisiv, thanks for the tip but I need to have the option of getting the phone to ring and just mute it without looking if I am talking in a meeting if a call comes in)
3. Handcent sms is great but I find a few issues with it - after getting a number of sms in the phone, it slows down..not to mention it takes up quite a bit of memory. I have used it for quite a while, am not sure whether I want to revert back to it
To answer your question about desire versus x10i, lemme tell you first that I have had the luxury and misfortune to have used almost all the class A handsets from all the major manufacturers and OS platforms. I will be posting a full review very soon on the forum, but lemme give you a heads up that might be shocking to quite a few - I prefer the x10 by a big margin...why? a few spoilers:
1. Battery life on both the phones is almost the same with the latest firmwares - so all the talk of desire being better are crap in real world use. In fact, on my use (moderate) I found the x10 to be way better
2. I am sick and tired of the measly evolutionary changes in HTC sense since the Hero. And anyway, you can always root and get whatever UI or home replacement you want. I am sticking with x10 timescape since I find it not too bad and gels in nicely with the phone experience and is NOT slow, just relatively slower compared to sense which you probably wont notice in every day use.
3. The screen on the x10 is wayyy better than desire, and auto brightness setting on the x10 are far more intelligent. not to mention bigger size.
4. The physical design of the x10 takes my breath away - nuff said.
5. Some people complain about the speaker volume being low on the x10 - relatively, yes it is; actually, there are worse phones on the market. and it works well enough for you to use it, unless you have lost some ('quite a bit') of your hearing. And, you can chose some tones (if you must) that are louder than the others...so its almost a non-issue.
Practically, there is little to no difference between the phones when it comes to real world use, no matter how heavy a user you may be. The UIs can be customized, and the lower memory (RAM) and no multitouch in hardware seem to be the only 2 gripes, which are not dealbreakers (think about it, how many times apart from zoom have u ACTUALLY used multitouch!? as for the RAM, there is a thread on this forum that proves android is just as fast whether the ram is 256 or 512 MB..). BUT, the choice comes down to - screen quality and size, phone design, battery life. The x10 takes the cake by a big big margin in my opinion here. And do not forget the touch screen calibration issues HTC phones have been facing since the switch to AMOLED - its a serious issue, one that has cost me a lot of hassle on both the Hero (even it was not amoled) and the nexus one.
Hope this helps. This is one effin' darn good device, dont let whiners tell you otherwise.
I think that pressing the volume buttons on the side mutes the ring.. (seems to remember accidentally doing that a couple of times taking it out of it's case..)!..
Haven't come across anything which sends a text on a rejected call....
Haven't had any problems at all with handscent.. I've got tonnes of texts and mine runs fine..(??)..
Have to agree that since the last couple of updates the phone runs really well and the battery life is good for 3 days on light usage.. bloody brilliant!
Man you just made my day better by that quick review.
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
cool, thanks for that quick review too, definitely helps me out! It's very interesting to hear your opinion especially coming from a great device like the Desire and your experience with others. Any thoughts on Samsung Galaxy?? lol
I only have a few gripes with the X10, and almost all of them are software related. I'm just keeping faith that the devs can crack the bootloader so we can start flashing custom roms and possibly get Froyo running on this beauty. I'm getting a little more antsy with all these new devices launching and now their respective Froyo updates this past week, makes me really question SE's commitment to their devices and customers.
Timescape looks cool and...well that's about it. It has loads of potential imho, but it's missing way too much functionality to make it even remotely practical. I honestly have not used it once in the past 2 months which is really sad because it was a major selling feature of this phone.
Mediascape is actually pretty awesome...other than the fact it doesn't have a widget...or an equalizer...or the ability to create playlists...but other than that I think it's fantastic and honestly the best media experience I've seen on Android to date.
I really hope Sony Ericsson does more than basically change the digits 1.6 to 2.1 I'd love to see 2.2! more SE widgets for EVERYTHING (I think I have a widget fetish) 720p video, photos with flash, an increase in call volume (I can hear it, but it really does need improvement) then I'd be totally satisfied.
I just hate knowing that this gorgeous piece of hardware isn't reaching it's full potential, I really want to love the X10 but I don't yet...that really, is where my resentment comes from.
And good luck with your 3 questions, for 1) I just noticed an app in the Market called SMART SMS by Smart Apps LLC, it's $0.99 and appears to be able to reject calls and send a customized sms to the caller, hope that helps
give chomp sms a try...see if it works for you..
ring to mute..as someone said above, the volume keys should work fine..

Recently bought 2 Galaxy S and a Desire, maybe Im gonna try do a video test soon. From my point of view, first touch to the Galaxy S doesnt feel good. Why? Because the Galaxy S feels cheapy in the hands, its way too light and absolutely doesnt feel solid. Imo its even not as good as the Desire one... The back cover is really thin, when u push it in the middle, it bends. The overall design looks more like a toy and a cheaper version of iPhone 2G, especially when the screen is off. One thing really let me down is the phone bezel around the screen, its higher than the screen itself, a really strange thing for a full capacitive touchscreen, even when I put a screen protector on, the screen is still lower than the bezel.
About the Super AMOLED screen that everyone is curious about, when u turn the brightness all the way up on galaxy and x10, the x10 seems to be much brighter in web browser... a really weird thing, the colors on Galaxy S tends to be hotter, its more yellowish and reddish, but defenitely the screen on X10 is brighter and more eyecatching, eventhough the default homescreen of Galaxy S loos very attracted, from here I really love the X10 screen. Last thing, if u put too many widgets on the homescreen, the Galaxy S will suffer some lags in animation, a real down point. Testing page loading in some heavy pages such as Goal.com, PremierLeague.com or GameSpot.com in default web browser, the Desire usually comes first with around 2-3s ahead of Galaxy S and the X10 is the last with just 1s behind Galaxy S (X10 running OS1.6)
The only thing I can see Galaxy S is better is the GPU, its a lot better than Desire and a bit better than X10 in some 3 D heavy graphic games in term of FPS and also help webpage scrolling a bit smoother than Desire and X10 (note that the X10 is running OS 1.6). Thats all I can say for now
PS: As umaronly said about the light sensor for auto brightness, I agree with him the sensor on X10 works a lot better than the other 2, in some low light conditions, X10 turn the screen down very low and seems to be more sensitive in changing environment than the other 2, same condition but the other 2 seems to be brighter, which affects battery life a lot

Thanks for the app suggestion people, will surely try them out soon.
Am pleased to see you liked the feedback from my mini-review, am hoping for a good response from the detailed one. As for comparison with Galaxy S (which I have also tried), it is definitely not as solid and fluid as the other 2 sets. Leads me to blame the Samsung UI touchwiz (if you turn it off i.e. use a replacement home UI it works much better).
BUT, looking at the overall experience of the phones and physical design, I am still inclined towards x10...it is way more attractive in its entire package compared to the other two, unless you are only or mostly into 3D gaming. Also, 2 words on AMOLED and Super AMOLED screens - stay...away!! If you read up on the technology behind amoled and TFT LCD you will notice the inherent advantages of using LCD tech..pundits will try and convince you about the marginally better (12% or so on average) power consumption on AMOLED, but in real world use, if software is well tuned and auto-brightness works well, you can NOT tell the difference, other than the gorgeous display itself on LCD. In fact, in my tests the xperia x10 outlasts the other handsets on battery life even with the bigger screen (and of course bigger battery, but that is something you ought to expect from all smartphones!!)
Also, lemme tell you a bit of good news (don't ask me the source please). x10 will have an update to 2.2 later in the year as well, and apparently the thing flies on the 2.2 ROM even on the very early build, where SE engineers are tweaking the social integration much tighter into the OS (think: fb pics sync with contacts ), plus the added benefit of installing apps on memory card allows RAM to be free for phone UI. It flies, and kicks the @$$ off of other smartphones...stay tuned!

Just got a little aroused there
Please vote and post why you like your x10
And if you could have any phone right now other than x10 what would it be?
I own a Sensuous Black Xperia X10i and its one of the best phones out there. Though it has Android 1.6, it offers everything i want. It looks cool, works well, i get a good battery life. Am very satisfied with the phone
Yes,
Because I bought it! It has the design factor I am looking for, its android and its white and its Sony + its a perfect size, not too big like HD2 and not too small like iphone. It fits in hand really nicely. Since I like tech, I wished it had the most updated android as well but I will wait.
VERY happy with my X10!!! I sold my Nexus One running 2.2 for it. Never once did I look back and say "damn, why did I do that". Although the X10 is only running 1.6 it does a damn good job at it. The phone is sexy as hell, far better looking than alot of others out there imo anyway...and when 2.1 hits its gonna be SWEET!!!!
ps. I was all hyped about 2.2 when I had my nexus, when I got it ota I was very disapointed! all the hype for absolutly NO difference in my opinion....a couple extra useless options and did not notice any speed difference...so with the X10 just dropping 2.1 im totally cool with it.
No I am not happy with the Xperia x10 (I have the black one)
It looks cool as all hell, and has a nice display, but these problems are quite upsetting:
1. So sign of multi touch ever (Its important to me, dont care is anyone else cares or not)
2. I can hear people fine, though a bit quiet, but other can't hear me sometimes.
3. Typing on it is hard.
4. Screen collects fingerprints and does not have an oil resistant coating.
I find the phone runs fast, smooth. And I love the camera, but I can't put up with these issues.
Hope that someone accepts my offer to trade me either an iphone 3gs or 4

Typing on any touchscreen is a bit of a challenge with a full QWERTY keyboard - but withAndroid (even 1.6 ) you can install a plethora of other input options (ie. Swype, which is faster and easiter than anything ever.)
Oh, yeah, and I love my x10.

Yup was totally disappointed with the N1 the X10 is much better IMO. All the hype with 2.2 is overblown. On the N1 I didn't see the dramatic speed improvements. I don't even know what Google was thinking releasing Activesync support in the half broken state they did, at least in terms of corp. email support. I am curious to see how much faster the X10 will be with 2.1 on it.

Yeah I installed the HTC keyboard and it was better. I honestly think that the lack of MT is causing me issues. I can type with my wives iphone 3GS no problem and I think its because I am a very fast texter, hell I text faster than I type! I think I end up hitting multiple keys with the x10 causing the errors.

I can't say I was disappointed with the N1...but I sure was unhappy about froyo. While the N1 is without a doubt an awesome phone I love my X10 that much more. I can honestly say I don't want any other phone out there right now.

No.
Bought it when the multi-touch announcement came about, was on the fence until that. Was later greeted by the fact that it lacks it from a hardware standpoint, after spending my $600. Thought it was alright, could live without it. Grew more and more annoyed with laggy software, and then the straw that broke the camel's back was that I started having random restarts.
My phone is now un-usable if there is a sim card inside (will restart on boot), and is waiting to be shipped out to SE for repair.
What phone would I get if I had the option? Probably the EVO 4G or the Iphone 4.
NO
i got SE X10 white
i admit its sexy as hell
but
1- in call volume is very low , i barely can hear people when im walkin in the streets
2- lack of MT
3- low amount of RAM unlinke nexus
4- it lags alot of times
YES.
I bought the phone the day it came out and it set me back bought 700$. Coming from an iPhone that wasn't jailbroken before ios having an x10 was a whole new view on freedom. It was first laggy at first, but after debrand, rooting, new software, etc. I'm starting to like this phone a lot. Only lags on lock screen.
Browsing is great on the huge screen and typing on the horizontal keyboard isn't awkward like the iPhone. Tactile feedback is great too. The only thing ill probably ***** about is no multitouch. Can't play fps games like on iPhone. But its only games.
Writing reports on the phone in documents to go is great too.

Like the phone so much. I learn something new everyday. White has a killer looks. One guy who owns a 3GS told me after playing with my phone for your few minutes and after I shown him the demo movie that was on the phone, that he's going to buy one. Android Market is great, whatever you want your phone to do, there's an application in the Market that will make it happen...
I have the Sensuous Black too, and love it!
It's a Sony Ericsson, it's touch-screen, it's Android & it's a beautiful piece of equipment, and even if it wasn't getting an O.S upgrade would have still bought it. 1.6 gives me everything I need, so the upgrade is going to be nothing more than a bonus for me.
Yup, love mine with exception of bluetooth not working with my car kit. 9/10

I'm not voting because I don't even know if I'm happy with my x10. Being my first Android phone, I can say that I'm having fun playing around with it, and its non-iPhone-like looks allows it to stand out from the crowd. Somehow, I'm having regrets on buying it, but I think I would probably still feel some regrets if I had gotten a Nexus One or Galaxy S (btw Galaxy S was available to me at $0, as was the X10). I guess I'm just not ready for the Android platform, as I still feel that it's much easier to make phone calls on a Symbian(Nokia) phone. Also, the lack of Ovi Maps and PuTTy on my new phone leaves much to be desired. Connectbot just doesn't cut it, as lots of page switching is required when using it with Full Keyboard. Not exactly the kind of hassle a VIM user would expect.
My other gripes with the X10 are probably the common ones mentioned throughout the X10 community, like the outdated OS, MT, yada yada. Still, I'd give anything to own an Android phone which doesn't look like the iPhone.
Edit: Hah, this is funny. About 30 minutes after I posted this message, I received an update notification about Connectbot. Turns out the new update allows me to send Ctrl and Esc without having to use Full Keyboard, so I'm all good with VIM now
i voted no because i got the phone the first month it was relased. so i just used it for one month and the phone died :'( from april till now trying to find a solution :'( wish it comes back to life some day... now im really thinking about getting an x10min pro and move on with my life right now just using the crazy wild x1
Hells yeah.
Absolutely no problems with the phone. Tons of great features!

Where did you get it from?
EDIT: Just bumped one of your posts.
Maybe.
Why?
Because at the moment I don't have Wi Fi or a data plan, so I don't know the full features of the phone. I'm in a new country before school has started, so no contacts because I haven't made friends yet. So really, there is not much use for me except listening to a few songs and watching podcasts.
I personally like Apple's iTunes store to get applications and to easily transfer media to your device. There is no such online store for Android. It makes my life harder because you are forced to use an internet connection on your phone to get apps.
It also sucks that you can't make your computer internet connection (wired) into a wireless one for your phone to use. You can do the reverse, tethering, but no reverse-tethering.
Plus the battery life is concerning me. I'm forced to uninstall applications that I may use later on for a better battery life. My iPod touch has better battery life than the SE Xperia X10.
I'll just have to see after I get my Wi Fi working. At the moment I rarely even use my phone. Hopefully it turns into a miracle.
Let's try this for a change, instead whining about features you wish we had, let's talk about things we like about our beloved x10's.
I love the design, the screen and the camera. I'm glad we don't have multitouch, yes its good for emulator and games, but I hate silly multitouch gestures. I enjoy being able to use my phone with one hand.
Please share you're positive experiences and features you like.
Oh and for the love of god, nobody use this thread to bash the x10 there is already too many treads about crap.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Good idea, lets keep this thread positive.
My favourite things about the X10 are:
1. The screen. It's bright, I can use it even in direct sunlight, it has a decent resolution with a "proper" aspect ratio of 16:9 and even with the "low" colour depth it works perfectly fine for watching videos, looking at photos I've taken and surfing the web.
2. The design. I have the black model and as far as I'm concerned it's the best looking phone out there. It has a nice B&O feel to it, it's pretty discrete and the minimal level of decoration isn't flashy or anything.
3. It feels solid. Compared to other phones I've owned or used for extended periods time I'd rank this in the top 5 when it comes to how it feels. The iPhone 3GS comes in at first place of course and in second place I'd put the HTC Diamond, it's built like a tank. After that it's a very close race between the X10 and the Blackstone but the X10 barely wins by not having any loose parts and proper buttons.
The X10 camera is the best i have ever used and i have taken more photos with this phone than any other
Best phone i ever had.
Best design arround, and as i see it only a new SE phone will take the crown.
Build quality: i read some were that it has the worst build quality, but we have a X10 ran over by a bus and still working, and one gone swimming for half an hour and still working. This has to mean something.
Screen is great.Big and bright.
Battery is also great. 2 days.
About the update it comes when it comes.
So all i can say that i am happy with my X10.

Wish the frame rate was quicker but same here. I find myself actually taking pictures with it! Can't say I really used the camera as much on any other phone I owned before this.
I have even taken a few with the X10 that have become amongst my favorite photos.
I agree with all the previous comments but I have to add one that will probably make some people gasp! lol
I actually like and use MediaScape. I like the (for lack of a proper term) "infinity functions" that link to Youtube videos and the ability to update or add album art directly on the phone. The ability to use all my existing playlists via MediaGo is also a great feature as I have a ZuneHD and now I can use the same playlists on both devices.
I am also very impressed with the battery life (since going back to the AT&T R2CA016 ROM). The original ROM was a little sluggish at times but since I rooted and removed the AT&T bloatware, the performance has been outstanding. Everything works smoothly and quickly. I also re-enabled the non-market apps by following the Captivate guide and adjusting it for the location of the settings.db on the X10.
I really prefer the physical keys over the soft buttons on most of the newer devices as well.
This phone does everything I need and most of what I want so I am extremely happy that I returned a Captivate and replaced it with the X10.
Best looking touch screen phone ever. If I have to take the form of non living creature, I want to be white X10s charger ;-)

This is by far the best looking phone i have ever owned, im a very happy with my X10. the lack of 2.1 is no reason to sell it, a month isnt that long to wait really.
Cracking camera imo
Fastest phone ive owned, not saying much since my last phone was a nokia 5800 Xpress music
all in all, happy with it, also i get satisfaction knowing im on a 2 year contract and the phone seems rather indestructible, run over by a bus and left in water for half an hour.
If a bluetooth fix came out i wouldnt give a monkeys to eclair, frozen yoghurt or spotted **** lol

As stated before, the design of this phone looks simply amazing, and the fact that it doesn't look like an iPhone (I'm looking at you Galaxy S) is a plus.
The touch response is great, and the screen itself looks wonderful, I always have the brightness jacked up fully just for this very reason.
One of the main reasons I bought this phone was simply for the fact that its specs more than doubled some aspects of my last phone (HTC Touch Diamond), and it shows. This phone is fast! I've never owned anything like this, having something so small that can run something that looks as good as Need For Speed: Shift is a great improvement over what I'm used to.
The build quality seems pretty solid, but I never really have any accidents with tech anyways.
And the camera, the camera is great! As said by someone else, I find myself taking more pictures with this than any other phone I've owned before.
Oh yeah, and the 3.5mm headphone jack is also great for me, I use it most of the time to stream internet radio in my car.
Also, once you dig your fingers into the framework and get rid of some of that monotonous blue, you can really have a nice looking ui on your hands (not that it looks HORRIBLE when it's stock)
That's it for now, I'm enjoying it!

How do u guys get need for speed to work? Ive downloaded the droidx 99mb rip from the droidx xda forum, but even after a clean flash it still says free up space on your device? Any tips?

I returned an HTC Aria in favor of the X10, and even though the delay of the 2.1 update is frustrating, I am very happy with my purchase. The X10 is much more solid-feeling phone, with better battery life. I also think Sony Ericsson has a much better solution for managing media than HTC. Superior sound quality and a better camera than either my Aria or my iPhone as well.

Well i have no experience with android and after many years of being a palm freak i switched to iphone 2 years ago. It has done the job well and it was only when an offer came up in our newspaper that i decided to order the X10 for my daughters birthday on contract. My work has just upped my handset to the iphone 4 and after playing with the x10 for 2 days now and hearing an update is coming too then i am seriously considering giving my daughter the iphone 4 and keeping the x10 . It is like having an updated palm back . The screen is Brill , market store is tops and the customisation it offers hours of fun .... widgets are cool ... camera is best ive used
Im One happy X10 user

how do you manage to keep ur battery running two days :O plenty of people have said that but no one tellin me how. i just about manage to run it for half a day lol but other than that and the in call volume and updates i love the phone, best phone ive ever owned
Well, for me, what I like about it is because it's an Android, which is a competitor of the uPhone, and has more growing potentials than a Windows or Symbian phone.
Wanted to try out Nexus One, but as a multimedia fanatic, I read reviews that the music players are not really that satisfactory. So Rachael was an ideal choice since Sony has the upper hand when it comes to walkman-related stuff.
As for HTC, it's only natural to wanna try one, since there are alot of satisfied users out there, but the phones' designs were not as nice as Rachael's. (They even added a 'chin' to the Desire, which wasn't present on Nexus One)
So, yeah... Basically I only go for the beauty and the multimedia functions. OS versions are not really a big deal for me. True, I went gaga over the sight of Live Wallpapers, but then I can live without it. =D
The thing I like about Mediascape it the way the images were animated when they appear and disappear.

Hmm I guess there's no really a 'true way' about this, but I guess sucky battery life happens to new phones...
We all have experienced gradual stability of power drainage as time goes by. It's either the phone has grown accustomed to the battery, or vice versa, or that we have slowly become aware of how to avoid it?
Mine used to have it's power drop to 50% or more within 5 hours, without using it, and now it just drops like what? 3-10% by end day?
Give your phone some time. It will get better =)
I like it because its SE Design, only compnay which knows hardware design. I like it since its white color phone and because its running Android.
Dropping my iPhone 4 for it.
I basically wrote a list of things I do most on my phone.

Things I don't do:
Use barely ANY of the apps I get from app store
Play games

Prob would of gone for galaxy s2 but it's almost as costly as my iPhone.
Had htc desire before And it put me off htc - not keen on build q and as with most Chinese/Korean stuff a lot of software bits were unfinished. And am I the only person who didn't like sense ui?
Had Nokia n8 - phenomenal camera and good display of what can be achieved with smaller CPU but sw was limited no doubt about it. Considered getting one in anticipation of belle release but ultimately I'd be climbing onboard a sinking ship.
Arc is cheap, it looks good, great cam, great pic facilities and Sony UI seems like only a minimal intrusion on the OS.
Ultimately if you peel back the design of the galaxy s2 and the arc the main diff is in ram and CPU but not so much it would make or break the Arc.
Arc seems very underrated in my opinion.
It arrives 2moro maybe I'll change my opinion but I hope not because on paper it seems to tick every box for me.
Thanks for listening.
Great choice. To be honest i upgraded from the arc to arc s within a month. Purely down the fact i liked the white colour. You are right, though the device can be improved abit, it is under rated. On the contrary the iphone overrated. I had a play around with it for a week. I liked it but not as much as the arc/s. I have taken amazing pictures, sound is awesome. Battery life is for me great. 12+ hours with medium to heavy usage and all ive done is root and remove bloatware...implement v6 supercharger for extra smoothness. Ive also got link2sd but you said you dont use a lot of apps but id still recommended as with android apps you might get carried away
Hope this helps for reassurance that youve made the right choice

It does help thank you.
iPhone is overrated and now I'm outside of that apple/iOS frame of mind it's quite obvious to me.
The antenna issue is a pain in the balls (I know I should get a bumper) especially since I'm in a fringe signal area.
Ability to share (or rather not so) media is a big kneecapping of design
Lack of 'real' customisation - even just to set a custom ringtone eg.
Looking at it objectively it (iPhone ethos) completely goes against what I look for in a phone yet I was sucked in.
Make no mistake, i can be positive about it - it's a joy to behold (though IS starting to look its age)
It's fast, it DOES work in the way it's intended, iTunes store integration on the phone for me as a music lover is brilliant. It's gallery capabilties are generally pretty good. Email functionality for purely email is great.
But it isn't for me.
Lock screen notifications on iphone are very good.. and it does do what it does very well.. but the Arc does almost all of it just as well.. and many other things much better too!
I couldn't go back to iphone either.
Check out my 50 things the Arc S can do, the iPhone 4s can't thread...

Arc S is a great phone and very underrated. Root, remove bloatware, install a few cheap or even free apps ..... and voila ...... an absolutely cracking phone at half the price of thu iphone.
Happy days
Got it, love it but sending it back.
Out of the box (literally) it started randomly rebooting. I thought it was first time start up procedure but it contines, in fact typing this whilst it's sat in standby next to me and it's just rebooted on its own.
Formatted SD, reset factory setts 3 times, took SD out and tried diff sim but just reboots randomly, sometimes at 30 secs of use sometimes two minutes - no pattern.
Getting a replacement, not deterred as def seems HW fault.
Minimal time Ive been able to use it and it seems great
Can't get it collected till Monday tho will continue to update once replaced.
Cheers.
The arc is VERY underrated. I had never heard of it until I started looking for a phone with a great camera. I live in the USA though, which is why I had never heard of it before (good to see Sony finally bringing high end xperia phones to the USA now though).
My previous phone was a galaxy nexus. Only thing good about it is ics. The camera, speaker, etc are absolutely terrible and caused me to go look for a new phone, which led me to the arc.
Honestly? The arc s blows away the nexus in every single hardware category. I can't believe how great the camera and speaker are on this phone. And the screen is the best I've ever seen outdoors. It even looks better than the nexus super amoled HD screen.
I'm also surprised at how light the Sony skin is in comparison to other manufacturer skins. It actually improves gingerbread. Can't wait to see it with ics.
All I know is I'm sticking to Sony phones now. And yes, I've also owned iPhones (3 of them) and will never go back after switching to Android.
