That's because you're replying from the inside of the conversation. You must delete from the ouside. I mean, open the msgs conversations, where you see all the contacts you've been chatting with, then hold touch from there and select to delect.

Calls DON'T "send directly to voicemail" with JFv1.51

I'm not sure if this is because of Cupcake, or JF's mod of it. But it did begin after I updated to CRB43.
To recap: Each contact page, at the very bottom, has a checkbox saying "Incoming calls: Send calls directly to voicemail". Useful for people calling about "extended vehicle warranties" and their ilk. I know it worked before, because I put at least 20 numbers in that contact, and it made all those calls go straight to voicemail -- no ringer, no vibration.
But after I applied the new firmware, it won't send them to voicemail, not immediately. It vibrates, it rings normally, and /then/ goes to voicemail, just like a regular missed call. I tried to uncheck, then recheck the box, to no avail.
Is this a known problem? Where might I report this if it's a suspected bug?
I've noticed that as well after moving to JFv1.51.
this happened to me after re-checking i believe it is working...

I was trying to uncheck and check, then save (all on the same edit). What I've tried now, and hope works, is...
Edit contact
Uncheck item
Save
Edit contact again
Check item
Save again
Something else I just noticed: I seem to have lost audible touchtones on the dialpad, too. Could it be the Lucid loudness change I made? JF? 1.5 itself? Who knows.
Sending calls to voicemail: Fixed
Edit contact
Uncheck "Send directly to voicemail"
Save contact
Edit contact again
Check voicemail box again
Save once again

This does appear to solve the problem. To be clear, you can't just toggle the box off and on and leave -- you must follow the sequence above.

I'll diagnose the new "loss of audible DTMFs" in a new post.

People tab

I have tried to find if this has been answered elsewhere so I apologise if I have missed it.
Got my HD2 this morning and the first thing I did was update the firmware to 1.48.
Synced with Outlook and it has my contacts. Tried to put my wife on the People tab as a favourite. My previous phone would have stored her and I would have had to select her work or mobile number after selecting her picture on the tab. However, I see I have to choose which number when I add her as a favourite. That's OK - so I select her mobile number. I then try and add her again with her work number as a separate favourite but that deletes her first entry. It looks like you can only have one favourite per contact even if they have more than one number. Surely that can't be right? I don't want to have to create separate contacts for every number for my favourite people!
Have I missed something?
TIA

Choose which number you're most likely to call - once the contact is added as a favourite, if you tap the name (as opposed to the picture) it will bring an "action" screen listing call mobile, call work, call home, send message, send email etc depending on what info is available for that contact
Thanks for the help, Isadora. That's good as it means I can have more favourite people. The only disappointent is that it is a little more difficult to hit the name instead of the picture if you're walking fast or something like that. But thanks again anyway.

If you add "View Contact Card" then the default action for that contact is to bring up the action list where you can call them, text them, email them etc..
It's a bit more like the original people style that was exhibited in TouchFlo.

When you select which contact you wish to add to the grid on People tab a seperate window will be displayed ^ the phone numbers & the option to add contact card will be there. Good luck!
Great! That's just what I needed. Now why can't a 310 page userguide tell you that?
Thanks

Contacts Problem in Messaging

Am facing a strange problem with my new Nexus, In Messaging when am trying to compose a message, In TO option it doesn,t show nay name and not even show any names from contacts, For Example, in my Contacts there is a nmae JOHN, but When in Messaging TO Option when i Type J it soesn,t show any contacts started from J, Everytime i have to add the Mobile Number there or Send SMS via Contacts.
Help me regarding this
Unless you memorized the person's area code + number, the name will not appear when you composed regular texts. I have found the fastest way to compose texts is to scroll through the contacts, click the name, and then select the green message smiley. Adds a few seconds of time onto the composition, but you get faster with it when you're used to scrolling through your contacts.

That's not true. I type the first letter of the name and they show up. I know what your problem is too.
You need to edit your contacts and add the number as "Mobile". I assume right now you have them set as "Home" which is the default. Your phone doesn't display "Home" numbers when you're texting.

It was my understanding you had to type two letters to get the auto-suggest to pop up, not just one. Try "JO"...

You can type one or two. His problem is that he has their phone numbers set to "Home" instead of "Mobile".

Seriously, I've always (had a G1 since launch as well) had to type two letters before the suggestions came up, I'm actually testing this right now. Going through each letter of the alphabet, and nothing comes up with just one letter inputted. If your phone does it with one, I'd like to know how!

Oh well I guess you're right. I guess I've never stopped at one letter =P
But either way I know what he's talking about. My wifes number got changed to "Home" a while ago and it would NOT display her name in the TO field. I went to edit her contact and found that it said "Home" so I changed it to "Mobile" and it fixed it.
Speak of the devil. It just did it again and I just fixed it lol.

Managing Multiple Contact Instances

I'm interested in how you all are managing multiple instances of each contact? When I go to send a text message, sometimes I'll have three instances of the same phone number, an email or two, and sometimes other numbers through in as well (work, cell #2, etc.). It could be that I'm missing a critical option to turn off these multiple instances, but I'm sure I'm not alone is this.
So, how are you managing multiple instances of the same contact?
Any suggestions?

You should have the ability to link them to one contact. At the top of the contact card there is a link icon, click it and you should have options to link all of the same contacts together.

Yeah, they're all linked, but I think maybe my issue is that they become un-linked when I go to send a text message. So, I have to scroll through each instance of each person. I should have been more specific in my first post.
Issue solved by switching to Handcent. Hoping my MMS works now.
Sad that the stock messaging app shows you all of the phone numbers listed for a person. Luckily I only have about 25 people in this address book so it doesn't get too confusing. I am thankful they at least put "Mobile" in to distinuish different types of number I would be lost!

Incoming call text back feature

For the life of me, I can't find where to edit the responses without actually editing it when I'm receiving a call. Does anyone know where to find the list of responses for this so I can add a few? TIA
settings --> call settings -->All Calls -->> Reject Call With Message
You can add a message and edit/delete message by hitting the menu button.

Google Voice has the option to mark numbers as spam, so when I have to use my phone to call people I don't necessarily want to be able to call me back I use it and if there is a problem google Voice eliminates it. I don't give out my t-mobile number because then people will bother me.
Fortunately the person who i rejected with a text was not bright and asked who was texting. I apologized and said "Sarah", they said they didn't know a Sarah and I said oh, sorry wrong number... Then I called them back from GV later that night.
