I am not sure why there are no forums for the Blackberry Playbook when there are forums for the Flyer and 10.1 Samsung tab when both of these are not out yet like the Playbook.
Anyway, would you still hang on to the Galaxy Tab instead of getting the newer devices such as the Flyer or the Playbook?
I will probably get another 7" tab but I am not sure which one to get. My wife will probably inherit the SGT to put it in her purse.
The pre-lim review for the Playbook is out:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/13/blackberry-playbook-review/
...not a bad device in my opinion.
I'm keeping the Tab. But if I were to replace it, is probably get the Flyer.
I've always been a fan of Sense UI (unlike nearly everyone else ) and it just looks amazing. Especially the newer features they've put into it.

I'm also a big fan of Sense UI and Sense 3.0 looks very nice on the HTC Sensation promo videos...
I'm quite happy with my Galaxy Tab but if I were to change it anytime soon it would definitely be for the Flyer. The Flyer resembles my HTC Legend in its look and feel and I think the Legend is a masterclass of design with its aluminium unibody and the colour combination of the case, screen etc
From what I've heard, the Flyer's battery life is a good deal less than the 7" Tabs - that would be a deal breaker for me!

Dave
I will buy the Flyer if Gingerbread will suck on GT lol
Btw, i love the Flyer pen, would have it for my GT.

We mainly get the 7" tab for the size and portability.
Here is the break down:
Galaxy Tab:
Dimensions: 190.1 x 120.5 x 12 mm
Weight: 380 gram
------------------
Blackberry Playbook:
Dimensions: 193 x 130 x 10 mm
Weight: 400 gram
-------------------
HTC Flyer
Dimensions: 195.4 x 122 x 13.2 mm
Weight: 420 gram
So the SGT is actually the smallest in size (in terms of width) which is the best device to put in a jacket pocket. The other 2 devices (especially the Playbook) may be too big to put in the pocket.
Remember, you have to take into account of the case that go with the device so it would bulk it up a little bit when putting it in the pocket.

Completely agree. Have you seen HTCs promo video for the Flyer? You can sync literally everything with the calendar, use the stylus to highlight text on documents, record office/meetings with the audio recorder, write notes as it records. Its genius.

True, but that's the case with most HTC phones. My Desire would last about 8-12 hours with high usage. But I'm never away from a plug for that long, so carrying a spare charger with me isn't too big of a problem.

The trouble is, they are only quoting 4 hours for video playback, whereas I can generally get at least 6 from my Tab.

I am still sticking to SGT. I can't see much improvemense on those two to justify buying the new tab. Only other tab I would buy is SGT 8.9 if reviews are good

Absolutely brilliant
The HTC Flyer Videos really impressed me.
it would be the perfect improved galaxy tab for me.
BUT although the pen is really nice and so on and so forth, the main reason I would buy this tab is to take notes at school,
off course cellphones and so on are forbidden, so I couldnt use it in anyway.
The streamed gaming is no good for me either, because it would use data when im onfoot.
So for me for double the price for the htc flyer wouldnt pay out.
But I can imagine if your a student or something, it would be simply awesome, then I would also buy it.
I have always been impressed with pen input, but whenever I tried it out in real life, for instance using a Windows tablet for handwritten notes in Onenote, I did not continue using it in the end. A screenful of stylus-written text is hard to read and use, completely different from a piece of paper with handwritten text. Not sure why. It simply does not work for me.
And highlighting of text I can do with my finger in Repligo Reader for PDFs, in MoonReader for other ebooks.
Unless people report a compellingly different user experience with using a pen on Android, I'll stay with my smaller, lighter, cheaper Tab!
There's not much of a difference between the tab and the flyer. Ill probably wait for something more groundbreaking, than the flyer. I can't see myself using the stylus anyway.
I would replace it with the Galaxy tab 8.9 if ever, if it runs Samsung's Exynos. I also consider the Flyer as another alternative, but I don't see myself using that stylus because I have a dismal penmanship and I can't draw. Moreover, I just like Exinos.
However, I might also consider the BlackBerry Playbook. If that happens, then I would loose my only Android machine since I own two BlackBerries (not counting my pass phones).

I am using my Galaxy Tab as a phone replacement. Am quite happy with it and don't think I will replace it soon.
HTC Flyer is a good contender because of it's size. If I can use the flyer for Phone calls and sms, i think this will be my next gadget..
As i said in the flyer fourm (this was re would you buy the flyer)
Won't be buying due to the fact that I already have a galaxy tab (Big Mistake!!) Although the design and ui of the flyer look good, along with the fact that htc are good with updates, and a lot of people I have talked too like the pen. Not sure about the onlive myself due to the fact that you have to use a onlive controller (what are you meant to do with the tablet if the controller is in both hands?)

Well I have the SGT and while I do like it, I will probably end up purchasing the playbook, reason being while I do enjoy the SGT and I am a huge fan of HTC products I think the playbook is built more for business with an after thought for entertainment. My mind might be changed if the flyer can do everything the playbook does. Now thats not to be said if I dont find a decent deal I wont get a flyer also but for useability for work and school the playbook offers more options out of the box.

moto xoom or any good honeycomb tablet, it can't $1000 because it has to compete with the ipad 2.
I currently have the Viewsonic G Tablet. Tegra2, front facing cam and lots of great developers making roms for it. The one drawback is the LCD screen which has a narrow viewing angle. I'm looking for the same hardware with an upgraded screen. Most announcements at CES centered on cpu and screen size so I need to wait for better info on the screen. I already own an iPad and the screens are really good, it's just all the other limitations that drove me away from it. The other thing that Apple does really well is battery life, I never even thought about the iPad battery, it was good for days and even a week on a charge. So my short list of requirements: Tegra2, FF cam, 10" IPS screen and good battery life.
I have the same requirements when I'm looking. I would even take a 7in tablet if it had the right specs. Right now I'm just waiting on more info about the G-Slate, hope that turns out to be a good one.
I really want more info on the 10 inch toshiba tablet. That is the one that caught my interest.

The Xoom looks great but in a few months there's going to be a flurry of other devices that will be able to do 100% of what the Xoom can do. It only looks as good as it does because it's the only one with honeycomb "partially" working on it. The LG G Slate could be just as good, or who knows, maybe HTC will enter the tablet game. I would say Samsung but right now I'm not talking to them. They don't know how to treat paying customers.
The most innovative showing right now is the NotionInk Adam. It's hardware is almost identical to the Xoom, and it has that awesome Pixel Qi display (google this). It's shipping with 2.3 but the company promises a honeycomb update once the source is out. It has 2 full USB ports for peripherals or usb storage, a full HDMI port, 10 inch awesome screen, tegra 2, 1GB DDR2, 8GB onboard storage + MicroSD, Wifi or 3G models, camera that swivels 180 degrees, nice speakers, solid rubber rounded grip (have to see it to know what i'm talking about).
The reason I like this one so much is because it looks like they actually tried to make something new, where everyone else just had a knee jerk reaction to the ipads success and rushed to make an ipad clone.
The current gen iPad should still be at the top of most lists, because it's still really that good. And just wait until ver2.0 is released. We're in for some great geeky stuff.

I went to CES as press and saw probably at least 100+ tablets. Toshiba, Asus, and Visio had some nice ones. There were a few others such as Marvell, but hands down without a doubt the Moto Xoom killed it. My editor and I had a hands on interview with them on the Atrix and Xoom and have to say they absolutely nailed it. I have a Notion Ink Adam on order and cant wait for that, but the Xoom will probably be in my arsenal when it drops.
If your interested. Here is a quick hands on review at our site. I of course am taping and taking pics but I had plenty of time to actually check it out. Let me know if you have any questions about it, I might be able to share more from a hands on.

That was a nice read on your site.
Xoom got best in show not for nothing it will be amazing if they price it right and refrain from blur it with Motoblur and company.
One of the UK websites quotes the price at 719 quid, but as everyone said, they will have to do the competitive pricing to attract the customers from iPad2.
The Xoom is only going to be the best Android tablet until the 2nd honeycomb tablet comes out. I used to hate apple, but it's going to take more than a honeycomb video to sway me from getting that over the iPad2. Apple nailed it the first time, I can't imagine they couldn't nail it a second time.

People should really read more about Notion Ink - Adam's specs and review the custom software on it (Eden). I have been following them since last year's CES event and am actually surprised not seeing everybody (I mean eveeeeerybody) drool over it. It easily beats every other tablet.

I think the original has been left behind, no mention of updates for it ?
Wonder if the new 3G models will have phone thats the one thing about the current tab that sets it apart.
The current 7" fits in my coat pocket perfect, so 8.9" and 10.1" are not of interest to me.
If nothing else, hopefully they'll release later 7" Tabs that are thinner.
Then again, if there was an extended battery option for these larger tabs to get a bigger back case but another 6 hours, I'd probably be fine with the extra size/weight too.
All about choice, and we're certainly getting it.
(but yeah, I totally prefer the existing size, the best Tablet to have is the one with you, and I can't imaging lugging a 10" tablet around with me as easily as the 7" models)
They both interest me and good potential upgrades over my current tab !! I'd pick it up without any hesitation - although I'd prefer a stock honeycomb UI over the TouchWiz crap :\
I wished they make another 7", although google doesn't like honeycomb running on anything smaller than an 8" screen. Best part about my tab is putting it in my back pocket.

+1, the acer iconia A100/A101 and i think the MeMo from Asus are both running honneycomb aswell.
After they have left behind the original model so early (I bought mine only 2-3 months ago!!!), I won't ever look again at any Samsung tablet, so I don't care too much what they showed yesterday.
Is not the fact that we won't have Honeycomb (officialy, I'm quite sure that the developers will get it fully working, because the device is totally capable). Is the fact that it seems that they forgot they ever had an original Galaxy Tab. They don't even say that support will be discontinued, although we all know it.
At least Apple says "ok guys, you had support for your 3G for two years, is time to move up if you want further upgrades". Samsung throws a device to the market and then they change their mind and say "to hell with early adopters".
I will keep my original Tab until I feel I need a change (because it's working fine and it does what I need). But when the need for a new device comes, I will surely look out of Samsung catalogue, no matter what they offer. Let it be Xoom2 or iPad3 or whatever, but they will not "cheat" me again.

How do you *know* they've left the original Tab behind?
Last rumour I heard Samsung said that we would get an update to at least Gingerbread.
Regards,

Bought it one week ago knowing that the future support will be uncertain. But, as I've read these days, the Gingerbread seems to be a sure bet for the first Tab.
Someone from Samsung was asked about this in MWC in Barcelona. This is the translation
There will ever be Honeycomb for Galaxy Tab?
No. The 7" Galaxy Tab does not comply with the necesary specs to run Honeycomb. The problem is related to the resolution and not the size, as many says.
Click to collapse
As we all have seen, some developers made it to run already, so the resolution is not an issue.
The new tabs look really nice to me although I'm happy with the Gtab & don't need anything bigger. Knowing Samsung the hardware like the screen will be very nice & we have XDA for the software side. Not sure why they insist on touchwiz although it doesn't look too bad as far as skins go. Would be a shame if using an alternative launcher lost the cool new features of honeycomb like the status menu & new notification bar.
Overall I think we'll soon have a clear leader in the tab market that's android based. Apple really need something special with iOS 5 to compete.

Tab 7" won't be abandoned, because it's at the limit of being mobile, but also not too small like phones. I usually bring my tab when I'm jogging, see how far I already run and then while drinking coffee, using it for browsing or swyping. It is the perfect size. I can't imagine bringing 9 or 10 while I'm jogging or anything else outside office or house without attracting too much attention and it fits my back pocket or my suite just fine! For phone or messaging I have my bb 9780 for massive and fast texting without worrying it's gonna break soon as I use it pretty rough.
I can imagine tab 7"with dual core, amoled display for 30% more battery life, 4g, thinner design, more lightweight, matured android os, more apps, better camera, more battery life, it would be perfect!
if that not going to happen, I'm jumping to playbook.
Hey all,
Figured I'd pass on my opinions of these devices, and since I finally chose the TF, I figured I'd get the least flames posting here - lol. Looooong time gadget geek/hacker going way back to the Palm Pilot days. If it was a tech gadget, and particularly if it was internet capable, I probably owned one. My current phones are a HTC Desire Z (w/ NAM AT&T 3G) running CM7, and an iPhone 4 jailbroken.
Over the past couple of months I've owned (or still own) the Xoom, iPad 2, TF101 (w/dock) and GTab 10.1. I still own all but the Xoom, and here's a few of my thoughts on all of them and why I'll be keeping the TF.
Xoom - Well built, sturdy, and nice design. Lousy screen (comparitively) and lack of promised features like LTE and the SD Card werre a bummer, but my biggest reason for selling that one was the screen, and seeming lack of "responsiveness" from Moto on the device. Plus I knew cooler devices were coming soon.
iPad 2 - Not yet Jailbroken (grrr) but it's still a suprisingly good media consumption device as is. I go the 32GB AT&T model, and have used it for a couple of trips as a laptop replacement. It'll be cooler when I can JB it, but since I have a fiarly big investment in iOS software, I'll probably keep it a while. Not real impressed with it's Safari performance, considering all the hub-bub about how fast it is. But it does do games great, is slick and trouble free, and nice sized with a great (smart-cover) solution.
Galaxy Tab 10.1 - I got this one on Sunday, so I haven't given it a whole lot of time. It's a beautiful, "Apple like" device from a design perspective. Also the screen while very saturated, is very nice, light weight and thinness also gets it lots of oooohs and aaawwwws from everybody. I hate that Samsung doesn't allow direct mounting of the internal storage, and we're forced to use that awful KIES software. I've just been using Drobbox and all my music is in the Google cloud. This one would have been my second choice if I didn't already have (and love) the...
Transformer 101- now this one is my keeper. A lot has to do wth the dock - I'm an "ultraportable" laptop fan (current Lenovo x220) so I like smaller laptops, and man this thing makes a damn good laptop substitute with tablet caapabilities. The screen is gorgeous, the responsiveness of the OS is equal to or better than the other Androids, and even beats iPad when Safari is sucking wind. I love the quick controls in the browser (missing in the Tab) and that it feels like there's a really robust community developing for this device. I'm not rooted on any of these yet, and actually pretty content like that. Therre's a few things I'd do with root (and anti ad hosts file for one!) but for the most part I'm ok with them as is. When I start to get bored I'll probably root this too.
I sold the Xoom about a month aftr I bought it, I'll keep the iPad (partly for the fun things to try like iOS 5 and it's great for kids to play games on) but the Tab is going back to BB (restocking fee be damned.
I just really like the versatility of the TF w/dock. I have it paired with a small BT mouse and it's like a pretty full featured laptop, that goes into Tablet mode at the flick of a switch. Still on the hunt for the slimmest folio case for it that allows it to be propped up for typing, but the kybd dock does that for now.
Hope these tips help some people interested in any of these, remember their just mmy opinions and everybody has different needs and required attributes that may differ from mine. Either way their all fun.
If anybody has any question about my experiences, fire away, love to chat gadget talk abou the cool toys.

Good Post. Thanks.

I quite agree with you.
From all these devices i tried the iPad 2 and the ASUS transformer.
Im already acquainted with iOS and although its simple and intuitive it's kind of boring. im quite into personalizing my device which the iOs wont really allow.
The bigger and wide screen on the transformer is really nice, and although build-wise it may seems "cheaper" then the iPad (everything that is not shiny-aluminum-ultra-appleish is cheap nowdays) its a comfortable device to hold in the hand.
Price-wise the transformer costs less, + the keyboard dock which increases battery life and also allows you to use it as a netbook.
Performance seems to be almost identical on both A5 and the Tegra 2. BUT the transformer is overclockable, therefore you can squeeze some more juice out of it.
I didnt use the other two, but by reviews i understood that the xooms screen is washed out and not all that great, and the lack of a MicroSD on all of the three (xoom,iPad,GT10.1) is meh-ish.

Yeah, you could be right. I'm just so happy with the flexibility of the TF that for now (and for now could be 1-3 months lol) it's the one I'm choosing. IAs I stressed, this is just my humble opinion, hope everybody is happy with their respective choices.
glad to see that are still people who can choose between products without trashing another.
i'm stlll not sure if i'll send my tf back. i do like the versatility it has but seeing that i am keeping my gt 10.1 it's really hard to justify keeping it.
I don't think the keyboard dock can be stressed enough, and I wish I saw more advertising from Asus around the tremendous increase in productivity it provides. It's really not "just" an external keyboard or dock. It really does turn the TF into a completely different class of machine.
That said, I'll admit that if it weren't for the dock, I'd probably opt for the GT 10.1. I don't really use the microSD card I have in my TF right now, and I doubt I'll ever use HDMI. So if choosing between the two on the screen, size and weight alone, I'd probably lean toward the GT. However, man, the keyboard dock makes me want to stick with the TF no matter what else might be out there. As someone who needs to be able to write long-form stuff anywhere, I can't think of a better device than the TF...

i'd have to suppose the lack of advertising is one major factor for the price of the tablet. moto, apple, samsung all have commercials yet i've not seen one asus commercial, not even for their laptops.
To each his own I guess. I played with them all as well including the acer and viewsonic and kept the wifi Xoom. I really wanted to like the Asus because of price but it was just as bulky as my xoom and had serious build quality issues. The Asus screen was great, the quality around the screen, not so much. Enjoy your new toy dude. Aint technology fun
The only one I haven't played with is the tab 10.1, I secretly want one but Samsung and I have bad history.

Ok, I'm a little late to the game... but if anyone buys one of these tablets second hand.... like I just did, then here goes nothing: I bought a Motorola XOOM wifi (32gb) and an Asus TF101 (16gb) (and I nearly bought a Galaxy Tab 1 and an iPad Gen. 1). It's my first tablet; I haven't yet figured out what I'm gonna do with it, but there ya go.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 1: I passed on the Sammy because it did not have an SD card slot.
iPad Gen. 1: I passed on the iPad because.... well, it's an iPad. About as useful as a maxi-pad to me. I was put off by the closed system. It means far less choices for free or hard-to-get apps (of the kind I might need), and limited storage with no SD card options. It wouldn't do, even for a kid's tablet. (Despite the fact I have an iPhone....).
Asus Transformer Eee Pad TF101: I really wish they would have stuck to one name, and left it at that. What was the original name? The "Asus Transormer Mario Consuela Maria Concito Esperanto Gonzalez Eeee Pad TF-101"?
Motorola Xoom: Anyway, it came down to Asus and the Xoom. And boy, I had a hard time deciding. So hard, I spent 3 days of my life testing these two tablets, up, down, backwards and forwards. I ended up settling on the Xoom, but first, the Asus....
The Asus has a gorgeous screen, compared to the Xoom. The TF101 is sharper, more clarity, brighter, blacks and whites are more darker and brighter, respectively. Better contrast and angle viewing, and reading books is less of a strain with a more muted white for the background.
THe sound of the Asus however, is like slamming a suitcase lid down on twelve kittens while Freddy Krueger scratches his name out on the chalkboard. It's the ridiculous choice of stuffing really tiny speakers so they can fire out both sides of the unit. Even EQ'ing the thing with Viper4FX could not hide the tinny shortcomings of the speaker sound. Which also had a tendency to break up at louder volumes (its particularly keen to distorting around 500hz). Connected to a stereo though, was quite another matter.
Though much less bass, richness and body, the Asus resolved timbre better than the Xoom on music program material, output through a stereo via headphone jacks. However, I still preferred the sound of the XOoms (yes, "Xooms" as in I had TWO Xooms to compare), because the Asus was causing some degree of stress through its sound and picture, as compared with the calmer energy of the Xooms.
The construction of the Asus was nice in parts (ie. color, back design, aluminum frame)... but the superb construction, design, looks, case and smaller size of the Xooms is what pushed me toward the Motorola choice. I have not seen any tablet as well built as the Xoom. The Xoom has a timeless design and hough it is heavy on the wrist if you have to hold it up, it just feels nicer in the hand than the ultra-wide Transformer; which appears more dated due to its size and design. The really nice charging dock and 32gb internal (vs 16gb of Asus) also helped me accept the inferior colors and viewing angle of the Xoom. I also liked the nice design of the various white & green charging LEDs, around the screen of the Xoom - the Asus has none of that. I was not enamored by the fact that Asus required special prorpietary data cables, where the Xoom uses microUSB. What also pushed me toward the Xoom was the mediocre camera in the Asus. No flash and grainy photos (though it let in an unusual amount of light, despite or because of no flash... but it was too much light, and washed out detail at times). The Xoom 5mp camera was excellent... perhaps better than that on my iPhone. I like the idea of snapping pictures on a tablet, because of the large viewfinder.
I'm kind of a stickler when it comes to design. On pure performance and lightness of weight, the Asus wins. But you might not feel like a winner, trying to listen to vidoes and music on those tinny built in speakers for extended periods of time.
My wife has a Samsung Tab 4, and comparing it with the Asus, I don't find the Tab 4 any much better in any way, and in some ways, not as a good (it has a cheaper build, for example).
Okay, I posted a very similar thread in the Epic 4G section. I don't often come to this forum.
It seems to me that looking at all of the new releases, with the possible exception of the Motorola Droid series (although it seems the Droid Razr is getting more hype than the Droid 3 did, so it may not even count as a flagship), is the era of flagship physical keyboard phones dead?
Noteworthy to me is the fact that other than the Desire Z (and the Desire HD was arguably the flagship of its time, although IMO the Z was a better phone), there have been no new keyboard flagship phones from HTC or Samsung or most of the smaller makers.
What do you think is the future of keyboard phones?
So far all of them seem to be decidedly mid-range devices, not phones that set the bar, so to speak.
G3. Can't have a google dev phone without a keyboard yet.

Samsungs Captivate Glide looks very promising
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/14/samsung-captivate-glide-and-doubletime-hands-on/
but for now just in the US..
I was a Keyboard Smartphoner from the beginning, but now, I think on the bigger screens its more easier to type fast on a virtual keyboard.
Maybe my next Phone is no more equipped with a hardware keyboard.
first fact for this is the wight and the design.. 180g and 15mm is not so "smart"

I wish it would be more "mainstream", have a 720p screen and LTE support. I'll stick with my Desire Z for now.
i don't get the race to the flattest phone in the world, i would say give some extra fat for all those extremely flatty things and slap bigger battery in them.
Desire Z feels like a phone, i like the way its think, not too thick, and im fine whit the weight, people can't carry 200 grams whit em anymore?
There's Droid 4 coming, 5row qwerty, looks promising, hope they include atleast 1,2Ghz cpu. But at this moment i don't think im going to change to a new phone within a year. Ill hope HTC comes up whit 5 row G3.

I'm not too big on super thin either -idk what's with this trend.
So far mostly mid-range phones - Glide is a midrange; the Galaxy Note or HTC Rezound are more like top-end.
I personally prefer something a little thicker and heavier in my hands ;D
Jokes aside, the heaviness of the phone gives me the feel of a better build quality, as opposed to the cheap feel of the S II, which my gf has. So light it weighs next to nothing...
feels like the wind can just blow it away...
Yes i hate thin light phones! I want a brick phone damn it! Give me a big screen a good keyboard (im thinking G1 style but full width) and a nice thick heavy battery that will last all day. Oh and i want one of them fancy induction chargers built into the case. And a nice creditcard chip thingy.

OMG that would rock my socks. I wonder, is there maybe a proper sized BT keyboard and a case?
Check Adapt ADK-100 Micro Keyboard (Amazon ASIN B003ZWGEW8) saying it's exactly the size of an iPhone 4. this is a comparison with the HD2: images.mobilityminded.com/2010/07/IMG_4444.jpg

My opinion is riding a subway, bus etc. Qwerty wins. Physical buttons will always be superior and more versatile/precise.
I do think phones are crafted by trends, had the G2 originally been launched with a tighter spring, this phone would have sold like crazy.
Although I'm happy with my phone as I think its funny when I catch people looking at my phone wondering which one it is or why my screen is green.

You seem to have missed the HTC DOUBLESHOT:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones...px?cell-phone=T-Mobile-myTouch-4G-Slide-Black
I moved from the Desire to the Desire Z.
To me, a thin keyboard-less phone like the Desire is like an Aston Martin with a 1 litre engine in it. It may look nice but, it's missing the grunt to really get things done (functionality wise rather than cpu!).
With the Desire Z, I can snap open the keyboard and get far more screen real estate without having to have a software keyboard popping up. I can also do common tasks like copying and pasting faster and easily switch apps with shortcuts. I can pretty much touch type on my phone now, while walking for example without looking down.
Of course, we all know this, I just wish the public would realise the advantages of having a keyboard and then manufacturers would make more of an effort. Maybe if we all lectured friends, we can force a tipping point!

Well and at&t at that. Ugh.
The Glide has already been out in Canada for a couple weeks or so. Although Rogers is just as bad as AT&T probably.
Well, you got me there. Me and my brother enjoy the feel of keyboards on our phones. My G2 came across an lcd problem and my sister got me a G2x, good phone but couldn't enjoy the LG,since I'm an htc guy. Sold it,got a sidekick 4G, didn't like the way samsung made it. Sold that, bought a new LCD, fixed my G2. At the end of the day, I'm a Qwerty keyboard HTC guy. As for my bro, a HTC mytouch guy, he loves the Mytouch Slide 4G. We both came from a G1. I'm praying for the G3. *fingers crossed*

What I'm hoping for in the next year:
1.2 ghz dual core minimum
5 inch screen (4.5 inch minimum)
Qwerty 3-4 row I don't care
Hdmi out
Not samsung (wii controller won't work)
Must have decent battery life, most liekly ill be buying another fat mugen lol
preferred htc but its not really a big deal to me
Don't care about thick or thin
Honestly the desire z handles everything but the screen size and hdmi out want my n64 on the big screen! I'm hoping for gamecube/dreamcast emulators in the next years. These overclocked dual cores can easily handle it.

You couldn't PAY me to use a phone with a 5" screen. Screen ***ABSOLUTELY MUST*** be UNDER 4". Any bigger than that and it isn't a phone -- its a tablet, and no, I'm not interested in holding a tablet up to my head to make a phone call.

Apple today, as you may know by now, unveiled It's new tablet, the 'iPad Air'.
The price of it STARTS at $499 for the 16gb version while the Note 10.1 starts at $550 (or $499 if you buy from Amazon). However, the microSD slot makes up for it being able to insert additional memory if needed. With all this being said, I'm not a tablet-tech junkie but...doesn't the Note 10.1 have the superior hardware along with the stylus? I'm having trouble understanding some of the reviews because they dock points off the Note 10.1 due to the pricing while the iPad Air will receive accolades for it.
I don't own the Note 10.1 (yet) because I was waiting for the new iPad reveal (which was today) and also the upcoming Nexus 10 before I make a decision. What are your thoughts on this?

As a long time iPhone and iPad user (before recently switching back to Android with the Note 3 and 2014 Note 10.1), I can honestly say that there are four reasons Apple is still the better talked-about of the two:
1. Apple uses better materials (aluminum, glass, etc.)
2. The marriage of its software and hardware is seamless (very little to no lag or crashes)
3. The polished, superior quality of its apps (compare GoodNotes with ezPDF and you’ll see what I mean)
4. “Apple” is a status symbol, a declaration of success.
I went ahead and bought the Note 10.1 as soon as it came out, and with my 45-day return policy at Best Buy, I decided to pay close attention to the releases from Apple and Google, as you are doing.
As I used my 10.1 more and more, though, I decided that I most likely wouldn’t be swayed. The thing that most convinced me was the S-Pen along with LectureNotes. I write notes during meetings A LOT, and I have never experienced a more accurate and fluid experience as I have with this tablet. I tried about 20 different styli and about 50 different apps on the iPad, and nothing comes close to the diminutive S-Pen. It’s fantastic.
So today my wife is thrilled with the announcement of the iPad Air, but I’m just “meh”. I suspect it will be the same with the Nexus 10. Neither of those have the S-Pen, plain and simple.
If the iPad and/or Nexus 10 came out with a digitizer or ability to use the S-Pen to its full potential, then I’d have to take a second look.

I think it depends on what you are using it for. The 2014 Note 10.1 is far superior for movie watching, drawing and note taking. The iPad (new or old) covers most everything else. Android gives you freedom as opposed to iOS higher quality (mostly) rigid solutions. If you have the money get one of each.
With the lower weight (and smaller size of the iPad mini 2) the remaining arguments to go for a Note are centered around the S-Pen, it's superior screen and (much more) freedom of (poorer) choice.
I note 10.1 has been the most productive tablet I've owned. And I've owned a ton. Even last year's model with its crappy screen resolution got more use than my nexus 10.

This point is apparently not so true anymore since theres many reports of ios7 not playing well with iPads
Beats it in size
10.1 to 9.7
Beats it in ram
3GB to 1GB or 2GB
Beats it in resolution and PPI
2560x1600:299PPI to 2048 x 1536:264PPI
Beats it in camera
8MP; 2MP Rear to 5MP; 1.2MP Rear
A7 specs are dodgy to get a hold of but I'm sure the processor beats it as well.
People are sheeple. If you are going to put up money, you may as well get something that will last you. Very rarely have I purchased something that feels damn near futuristic in nature, like I've made a leap into the near future to use it. This tablet gave me that feeling and continues to do so.

A7 is dual core 1.3ghz, but its not all about the cores and ghz, they optimized it well.
The iOS app ecosystem is always considered by consumers and reviewers as part of the device. Mutually inclusive. This is the key reason for the perceptive advantage for the ipad.

I'd be the first to agree as there is synergy there and the developers can code to the specs rather than the crapshoot of Android devices. However, everything I throw at this tablet, it handles like a champ.
The ipad mini with the high res display is going to be the premium tablet market share eater.
ios 7 works fine with the iPad, but needs all the bling turned off. Just like Android. I like the 2014, but still seems $50 too high for them.

That's what I don't understand though. Android is no longer subservient to iOS. At the very least, it's on equal footing. There is more ram in our tablet, a faster processor, a bigger screen, a better front and rear camera, not to mention the $25 on Google Play and the $50 on the Samsung Store and it's only $50 more. In comparison to what their competitors are doing, we got a great deal from Samsung.

Well I think the point is, we are not in the PC world. I think that specs are less and less important. That's why Apple doesn't even release most of their stats. Its all about optimization. I bought a 10.1 2014 from Best Buy to try out and so far my results have been both good and somewhat iffy. I have definitely seen some of the lag and stutter. I use my tablets for a lot of PDF reading and markup. This tablet doesn't seem to handle it very well. I think the issue is the super high resolution of the screen. I had the same problem with the Nexus 10 when I bought it earlier this year.
I love Android and I would never switch, but I do have to say that I get slightly jealous when I go to Best Buy and try out PDF handling on the iPad and it is butter smooth... Why can't we have that? I have used all sorts of programs to display PDF's on the various tablets I have had, ezPDF has been the best all around thus far but when zooming and turning pages it just starts to chug...
I plan to stick with the 2014 because it does so many other things really well. I just wish that Samsung and Google could get on a better road together where they optimize the crap out of Android to run better on hardware. I hate Touchwhiz with the rest of them, but if they did this there would be much less of an issue. Just a thought.

This is really my only issue as well. I had high hopes for iAnnotate on Android, but it stinks.
ezPDF Pro is the best on Android (Mantano Premium gets good grades although I have yet to try it), but it's still not up to my standards.
The S-Pen, with LectureNotes, is hard to beat, though.

Interesting, I haven't got around to trying Lecture Notes on the 2014, I tried it on my old 10.1 and it worked pretty good. I ended up really liking Papyus. However, that is another thing I am annoyed about on the 2014... Papyrus is UNUSABLE. There is so much lag when I write on the screen it is ridiculous. Not sure if Papyrus just needs to be updated to better work with the new hardware or what, but that was pretty disappointing.

Who cares what Apple says? I don't. I mean, they come up to the podium with a holier than thou attitude, and act like they are some kind of God and you need to obey their gospel or you are a lesser person, I really can't stand their arrogance. Now, does Apple make good stuff? For the most part, yeah. Is it any better than anything else out there? No.
You have to remember that tech journalists and bloggers need something to write about. They need to draw people to their site in order to get advertising revenue.
The smartphone and tablet world is less and less about a direct comparison of specifications between devices and more and more about gravitating towards your preferred ecosystem. That is a personal choice.
In the Midwest it is not unusual to find people sitting around in a coffee shop seriously debating between the merits of a ford versus chevy pickup truck. I say, who cares? Drive the one that you like.
The same can be said about electronics. If you don't feed the controversy machine then there isn't a controversy. Buy the device that you like and to those that criticize you for your choice tell them to go pound sand.
The iPad is a beautiful piece of tech, in particular the new one. But it's got the same shortcomings. Jailed ecosystem, no digitizer, and what really kills it, iTunes.
Once it's jailbroken, I MIGHT consider buying it, but that's only if my 10.1 starts crapping out like the Transformer Prime or something.
