[Q] Is anyone able to extract Swype from Telstra's RUU?

Hi,
First of all is it possible?
If it is, has anyone tried to extract Swype from Telstra's RUU and install it in another Wildfire?
Tried extracting the installer but was unsuccessful.
Thanks in advance
I've tried to extract (and was successful), but when I tried to execute it gave me a FC. I guess it was because libSwypeCore.so was not in the /system/lib folder.
Like busybox in my other thread, every time I tried it gave an error.
Something like:
# ./busybox cp /sdcard/libSwypeCore.so /system/lib/
cp: can't create '/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so': Cannot allocate memory
# cd /system/lib
# cat /sdcard/libSwypeCore.so > libSwypeCore.so
cannot create libSwypeCore.so: not enough memory
# mv /sdcard/libSwypeCore.so /system/lib
failed on '/sdcard/libSwypeCore.so' - Cross-device link
# dd if=/sdcard/libSwypeCore.so of=/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so: cannot open for write: Out of memory
I really need to know how to copy files to the /system folder.

Ok I think I found a way
Just edit the APK and put the libSwypeCore.so in the lib/armeabi folder, zip the files and sign the APK.
It runs nice and no FC I will edit the APK (again) to include the Portuguese language.
Could u please upload it

@ricardoft : Edited the Swype.apk
Put the libSwypeCore.so
Under
Swype.apk
->Lib
---|>armeabi
---------|> libSwypeCore.so
Is this right ? repacked the apk as above attached with the post.
I got "application not installed" as error message
I wonder how to repack it then :|
I am using the 1.54 Version for QVGA , Works fine in Portrait mode , hides some keys in Landscape.
I've been busy with the University but here is the modified APK.
http://rapidshare.com/files/419569794/Swype-signed.apk
MD5: 56338F5EE8D53BE3A22EFE6CB96E1A7C
It still has some issues. One of them is when choose Swype for the Input Method it still crash. Don't know why, but I think it still has something to do with the libSwypeCore.so.
i wouldnt mind doing this as i basically paid for it when i bought the phone...
using a clockwork backup i was able to extract the apk and libSwypeCore.so
butwhen i put the lib in place and installed the apk i just get blue flashing outline of keyboard and no output text...

[Q] No Write access to /etc, /system/etc

Hi guys,
I read that i need to change a line to wpa_supplicant.conf in order to be able to connect to ad-hoc networks.
First of all, my wpa_supplicant.conf file is not in /data (/data is empty), but it is in /etc/wifi/ & system/etc/wifi/
Secondly, i have no write access even though i have flashed with the aufs_overlay_rw patch.
Any input on how i can change my access to be able to save the config file?
Thanks

You can boot into recovery and manually mount system and data and so on there , then either push/pull stuff with adb , or go in there with adb shell and for instance copy the file to sdcard (don't forget to mount it in that case 8)
Id don't know if tha file requires you to chmod or anything though , maybe someone else can help you there.
I had to chmod framework-res.apk on my X10mini. You might have luck if you google it or search all of the subforums here.
Well, thanks to HDCR.Jacob & danne_jo and their hard work on the WildFire v8, ad-hoc support comes with the rom.
I guess that solves my problem

Incorrect keyboard symbols after upgrading radio, hboot and cm7 on g1

I put cm7 onto my g1 but the slide out keyboard has some of the alt keys in the wrong place.
I will try to show you.
If I press
Wer
Sdf
Xcv
I get in return if I press alt
123
456
789
Instead I should have a load of symbols like _ all of the numbers across the top of the keyboard are in the correct place but all the symbols are wrong.
The keyboard worked fine with cm 6.1.0 I have upgraded the radio and hboot for cm7 but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with which country I'm in or if I can change the settings within the phones keyboard options.
Any help with this would be great or if its a bug then let me know what I can do to help.
I am in the UK
Thanks,
Dave.

I am definitely having this issue with my G1 (English). Lost my question mark among other things due to the keyboard mapping. If you were able to fix this issue, let me know with a PM or something as I am in need to that file fix.
Thanks,
i wish i had the correct file! i have tried to edit the cm7 files by changing the keys via windows notepad but when i save the file and try to run the flash again it wont let me due to a verification error
if trout-keypad-v3.kcm.bin was in with cm7 like it was with cm6.1.0 then it might of worked but it doesn't look to me that the english version of the g1 has been added to 2.3.1 i would like to get in touch with the devs about this but i dont want to annoy them!
i also tried to copy and paste the correct files from cm6.1.0 to cm7 but there was also a verification error!
i have also just done a little bit of searching into creating my own rom and signing rom files for flashing but i am not that clever unfortunately!
maybe i can take the correct layout and post the zip file on here or email it to someone for it to be signed by someone else that knows what they are doing and then the signed.zip file could be returned?
DEVS! HELP! lol
philly2va you will be pleased to know that this post i will send you has the correct v3 keypad file within the rom, i haven't flashed it yet but i am about to. . .
i have downloaded the top one in that list.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9987696&postcount=2
my keyboard works fine now
well after messing around with all of that and getting the keyboard working i thought i would freshen up the phone a bit, i put rc7 back on to make it stock android 1.0 (it was quick i must add) i formatted the sdcard put RA 1.7.0 on it again and then cm6.1.0 it works fine and i'm happy with the result, the phone is just for messing around with as i have a wildfire but i got bored, im just waiting for a root option for the hbooted 1.001.0010101.1.010.101.1. wildifre lol
An "easier" way to update the keys/keyboard layout...
I did :
1. Grabbed GINGERBREAD-DS-Alpha-20110129-1.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9987696
2. Unzipped it to 'gingerbread' directory
3. cmd
>adb shell
# mount -o rw,remount -t yaffas2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# cd /system/usr
# mv keychars keychars_o
# mv keylayout keylayout_o
#mkdir keychars
#mkdir keylayout
# exit
> adb push gingerbread\system\usr\keychars system/usr/keychars
> adb push gingerbread\system\usr\keylayout system/usr/keylayout
Rebooted and works like a charm.
( I than went back and deleted the keychars_o and keylayout_o dirs...

Just read instructions again.. begin at the top.. maybe you missed something in the process.. ex. typo error.. because system work on me..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004740
I just re-read through the instructions and I have done it all correctly. I backed up a friends floyo (he has dualtouch) and restored it onto my phone and it still doesn't work
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
This happened to me too, using minicm rc1, Elelinux v3 and Nexus-x8 v2 also no luck to get it.
Minicm RC1 - using update-minicm2-2011-04-13-signed.zip (9.44 KB) after update,
no dualtouch, loose OC.
check with hw_config.sh, the code is at the bottom.
# dx: our modded touchscreen driver
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8gesture.ko
Install again 3 custom rom - minicm rc1, Elelinux v3 and Nexus-x8 v2
with factory reset
Manual Installation for the dualtouch and oc
I had added the code at the beginning
# dx: our modded touchscreen driver
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8gesture.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko # x8 overclock
As a result, Im only get the OC.
Edit: I had baseband 015, and i did adb shell command check also
adb shell
dmesg | grep X8Gesture
It returned a same output in the command prompt.
I had try with Multitouch Visualiser 2, always showing 1 touch
Add insmod line to the top of /system/bin/chargemon. I did that and it's working.
hi blagus, you mean add
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8gesture.ko at top of the line /system/bin/chargemon,
and how about the insmod /system/lib/modules/x8gesture.ko at the hw_config.sh,
leave it there or delete the command line?

Remove insmod from hw_config and put it as the second line in chargemon.
In my case, chargemon looks like this:
Code:
#!/system/recovery/sh
insmod .../x8gesture.ko
insmod .../x8oc.ko
[...and so on...]
I think this is better method that hw_config because chargemon is the first thing executing on boot.
Hi blagus, my chargemon is start like this
#!/system/bin/busybox sh
/system/bin/charger
cat /dev/input/event 1 > /dev/keycheck&
sleep 3
Kill -9 $!
.... and so on ...
So i need to add like this ...
#!/system/bin/busybox sh
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8gesture.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko
/system/bin/charger
cat /dev/input/event 1 > /dev/keycheck&
sleep 3
Kill -9 $!
Edit: after test with Mr. Blagus method..the result still the same
OC worked but multitouch failed (I think is my hardware problem)
This didn't work for me either
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
I doubt that it's HW problem... I suggest you to flash baseband 015 again to make sure you have latest kernel.

this didnt work either :\ beginning to think it may well be a hw problem but i really dont understand how that could possibly be
No, it shouldn't be HW problem. When did you buy your phone?
ya..didnt work for me either, Im from malaysia, i also dont understand why will become like this..Now, only OC worked for me but i satisfied what i had now, actually the multitouch not very important for me, just curious to know what happened

Me too, so it CAN'T be HW problem due to new revision... it's somewhere else.
First, chmod x8gesture to 777 (chmod 777 /path-to/x8gesture.ko)
If that fails...
Reflash stock FW (you can get it in my Mediafire folder), root, install xRecovery, then flash custom ROM, copy modules to /system/lib/modules and put insmod lines to chargemon.

I had tried before using Root Explorer, tick all at the permission on x8gesture.ko, but dont know this step will be same as your method..will try later on. (Now im using minicm rc2,best rom atm only compass not work)
Edit: after chmod 777 - x8gesture.ko (rwxrwxrwx)
As a result - multitouch didint work, i lost root again (this is 2nd time, first time install floyo theme), now restore back RC2
Dont really want to go back to stock fw, ill wait a while for an update and then see about going back. Thanks anyway really appreciatedappreciated

To Blagus,
Reflash stock FW (From your Mediafire folder) and the Build 2.1.1.A.0.6 provided by mohakrastogi, is it the same method?

Testers needed: Default Orientation Portrait v2

Testers no longer needed...turns out there is no improvement to the old version. Back to the drawing board.
Hello all,
I made a slight change to the PhoneWindowManager.smali and it seems to improve how quickly the orientation switches to portrait after a reboot (has been working immediately after first unlock for me). From my limited testing I also feel it will be less glitchy as sometimes weird things happened with the orientation in the current one. I am looking for a few others who would be willing to test and make sure everything is good.
The PhoneWindowManager.smali is attached
The instructions on how to install are here (Advanced users only)
Thanks for your help
Do you need to install the original portrait mod that you linked to to use this?
It's a smali script, it only relys on the original file to modify.
I'm willing to test for 191 if you make the edited policy.jar

Don't need the original mod, just follow the same steps only use the smali file attached to this thread.

I am stuck at the 10th point of ur instruction that is :
10. Put dexopt-wrapper into the correct folder with the correct permissions
> cd /system/bin/
> busybox cp /sdcard/dexopt-wrapper . (yes after dexopt-wrapper is a space and a period)
> busybox chmod 755 dexopt-wrapper
> cd /sdcard/
when i give 2 and 3rd command, it says
cant stst /sdcard/dexopt-wrapper: No such file or directory
Ok...........it was all done properly
But what result i got is . it now stucked in landscape completely and it looks really odd
waited but still its lanscape
yeah it seems to be still the same as the old one...the easiest way to get it out of being stuck in landscape is to open the camera app...Testers no longer needed as it is no improvement over the old version.
Testers
Hello jhotman
I'm sorry i saw this post too late, but if you need any testers in the future please PM me.
