Well, I first want to state that I did a search in the forum and could not find anything on this topic. What is the best ROM in your opinions for the Atrix? By best I mean fastest and best looking. I currently have GingerBlur. Thanks guys!
try Q&A/General..WRONG SECTION
First thing, there is a Q&A area for a reason...
Second is there are only 2 choices gladatrix and gingerblur. If really did look then you will see both on the front page.

My apologies, I thought I was in the Q&A section. Also, is there not one called adeo? I did look at the ROM's just could not distinguish a difference in speed between them by just looking at the forum. Has any tried both which can reply? Thanks guy

hey man, i am currently using Gladatrix 4.2.3 the the 1.5.7. it runs with pure awesomeness!. on top of the rom itself im using ADW launcher and that app is pure beauty.
i tried gingurblur and didnt like it all that much personally. so i cant say much about it.
Well thank you guys for the advice, I will surely try gladiatrix! Once again, my apologies for writing in the wrong section; I am not here to make people's life more difficult. Thanks guy!

Back ... and forth ... and back ... and forth ...
funny. i like gingerblur more than gladatrix. the gallery and gingerbread mods are way better to me visually than the gladatrix with its stock look.
First off, there is no perfect ROM. Here's my run-down of the current ones available:
1.) GladiAtrix by Ririal
- Offers a closer-to-stock (before he added the Xperia Arc theme) version with speed enhancements and functionality enhancements.
- Now offers a clean, refined Xperia Arc theme
2.) GingerBlur by yours truly
- Offers a close to Android's stock Gingerbread look with much of the functionality present on a stock Gingerbread device. Also contains similar (to GladiAtrix) enhancements... deodexing, build.prop tweaks, etc.
Soon there will be yet another ROM in these parts as I release my next project! It'll feature a new theme created by me as well as the latest mods, speed fixes, battery enhancements, etc.
Remember that "best ROM" threads have generally never been accepted on XDA-Developers. They're unproductive as they insinuate that there is a one-size-fits-all ROM. I'm sure this thread will be promptly moved by a moderator.
Make sure to check out the Development section and look for the [ROM] tags. You can use "changelogs" as well as features sections (and maybe screenshots) to determine which ROM is right for you.
Before I appear ungrateful/self-important, let me preface my opinions on the two (current) ROMs with a HUGE thanks to Ririal and kennethpenn both for their tireless (and awesome) work on making my Atrix (and everyone else's) a worthwhile device.
With that out of the way, on to my experiences with the current versions of each:
I was on GingerBlur pretty much since its release. Overall, it's a very nice ROM, with some essential theming changes. It felt smoother than stock, but this could have been placebo effect (adrenaline surges resulting from its coolness can distort reality). Some of the Atrix's stock color themes and icons (perhaps stock Froyo?) like camera and contacts needed some improvement, and kennethpenn stepped up to the plate.
Just recently, I thought I'd give GladiAtrix2 a try. My initial reaction was that GladiAtrix2 seemed a bit smoother upon opening of app drawer, rendering of contacts, and the like. I got my highest Quadrant score ever with GingerBlur (2999; yeah, one away from the big 3K), but GladiAtrix2 got pretty close (high 2800s) after fewer runs. I'm sure it would have gotten there after a bit more stress, and its smoothness actually made me not really care about the quadrant score. My biggest disappointment with GladiAtrix2 is something really trivial (the fact that checked/unchecked settings are harder differentiate vs the green-black contrast in GingerBlur).
To answer your question, jism31, both are a huge step up from stock, and the largest difference is the look: the theming for GingerBlur is black/gray/green while the theming for GladiAtrix2 is black/gray/silver. Both improved battery life, and for now I'm sticking to GladiAtrix2 to see how it does for a week or so. When either adds a major change, it will be worth a switch/update.
Both of these guys are wizards, and I trust in their ability to continue to mystify us and eventually create something truly magical (perhaps through combined efforts?). Again, thank you kennethpenn and Ririal for all of your enrichments to our purchases (not just in these ROMs, either)!

I second this comment actually. I just switched over to GladiAtrix2 just to try it out while kennethpenn is working on his other ROM and updating Gingerblur. I found GladiAtrix2 to be smoother and faster for some reason and I'm not using the theming at all (just stock), but I miss Gingerblur's theme. Once kennethpenn updates Gingerblur with significant updates, I'll be right back on the Gingerblur train.
Well guys thanks a lot for the comments! I did try both and i must add that they are both remarkable. I achieved my highest quadrant score with GingerBlur, but Gladiatrix seemed somewhat smoother. I am currently reflashing to stock, clearing all the cache data, and basically wiping the phone clean and then retrying both. One thing i must note is that for some reason with Gladiatrix, I kept having huge crashes while in many programs. I actually just turned the phone on once and the crash screens started with the phone. I will need to give them both another try and see what happens, but for now GingerBlur worked a little better. (No offense to Gladiatrix developer! You made a great ROM!)

What happened to all the 2.1 fun? A leaked 2.2 drops and all of a sudden 2.1 dev'ing is a ghost town. 2.2 leak was ok, but I prefer the flawlessness of my TW2.1 set-up.
I take it everyone moved on?
2.2 brings alot of benefits to the platform as a whole, as a result alot of developers were actually waiting on 2.2 before starting development (ie. Cyanogen - however not sure where it is heading at the moment). There are some developers who started on 2.1 just because it was all we had at that time, but now that 2.2 is available there's no point in going back.
Why not? 2.1 is stable as hell. Until CM is released I see myself staying on tw final r1.

And...I know it is all about moving forward, but I didn't really see much difference on a 2.2 rom. Our devs are so good, no discernible difference was to be had (for me).

Just because you didn't notice the differences, doesn't mean they are not there. Flash player, copy/paste features, voice actions, etc...
I know it sounds silly, but I really like the drag tool when you are editing a line of text with the little drop down.
Like you said, 2.1 was already, "flawlessness" and "stable as hell" why mess with something thats not broken and room for little improvement as opposed to 2.2, where the development ceiling is much higher
Yea...I like seeing progress and will update to 2.2 once things get a bit more stable (admittedly I haven't used the new features--I'm pretty boring). I just feel like sometimes everyone looks to the future asap and once a dead horse is almost beaten no more support goes that way and those who like to play it safe only have a few flavors left.
I just really like 2.1--and would want a 2.2+ that makes me smile just as wide.
there are several 2.2 roms that are stable. i have tried them all and i am currently running obsidian v5 for now. having flash and all of the other goodies makes it worth it.

there are plenty of solid 2.1 roms. when tw has a bionix final and a fusion that's either final or close, plus aosp like roms, plus all of eugene's roms, 2.1 has been done thoroughly.
i'd recommend you try one of the good, new 2.2s like axura, obsidian, or macnut and see if it changes your mind. it's not just new features of 2.2, i went from 1.2ghz oc/uv core kernel with fusion to stock kernel obsidian, both with no lagfixes, and was benchmarking about exactly the same, which i found pretty impressive.

I tried onyx...it was really nice.
I tried mac nut...it was nice as well.
I just love my bionix final and core r310 more. It's just me being picky...when I had a mt3gs I had tons of options. Samsung has screwed the pooch and thus we are limited. Like I said earlier, I'm kind of boring...i like flashing, but rarely use things to the entire extent.

1day 13hours 50min since unplugged (at full charge, i'm reconditioning the battery) with 35% remaining... with what's probably considered light usage: some web browsing (mostly on wifi), moderate texting, a little angry birds and sudokus, etc.
i'm using axura 2.0.4, first time i've flashed axura and i've been very impressed with it.

+1. I love that too.
And yeah, honestly, even though it's a "leak", 2.2 has made it to the stable levels of 2.1 ROMS. I've been using Axura since it came out, and even the first build was just great, and now everything seems to have worked itself out, I literally don't have one feature I cannot do on this ROM, everything works. And if for some reason something doesn't, it must not be that important to me because I haven't noticed haha.
Lol this is an insult someone complaining for old firmware..... how retarded move on everything your had in 2.1 plus more in 2.2 lol

Eh, the term "leak" scares people off, including myself actually. But once I saw so many positive comments about Axura that's when I finally took the dive. I know people seem to love Obsidian, but everytime I enter that forum it's just posts upon posts of people not only having problems, but with bricked phones/having to odin to stock/ etc etc. I highly recommend Axura, I've never used Odin to recover or get anything working. It's real easy, and even more rewarding.
PS This isn't a post to spark defense for Obsidian, obviously it works for some people, but just my observations.
kinda goes without saying, but: you are always free to carry on the 2.1 development torch if you think it's a worthwhile venture.

I agree...at this stage 2.1 baked firmwares are stable as hell...which is also why there's little reason to bother tweaking them further.
It's really about resource and time management I think. We're weeks away from 2.1 being a distant memory officially, so there's little reason to play in that pond anymore.
To beat the dead horse even more:
Not much more can be done with Eclair.... and frankly, now that there is a froyo (with JIT compiler) why would you want to keep wasting time on it? I understand (and agree) that the Eclair builds we have are incredible ones... and there is of course things that could make them better, but why bother?
Froyo is a daily driver, incredibly stable and it brings a lot more to the table. Any developer is going to want to play with the new toy, and this is it. When there is another leak or OTA, THAT will be the new toy. And THIS leak did come from a T Mobile employee (who will continue to go unknown for his services) so there is no real worry issue here.
People on XDA tend to want this too... I flashed my phone probably 7 times in the past 2 weeks. Not because I needed to, but because there was a new rom or a new update... always going to want the latest/greatest.
Also, I am positive my froyo is faster than any eclair you have, it has very good battery life and it can do more....
REALLY wanting to see Axura 2.0.5 available....
I have had probably 8-12 Android handsets. I recently switched to an iPhone from my EVO and I hated my iPhone. I wanted to go with something pretty similar to my EVO so I checked out the screen, specs, user reviews, etc. The Droid X sounded great, but since having it, it locks up, freezes, and Lags like a G1. This NOTHING like my EVO and is disappointing to say the least.
I'm really hoping that a custom ROM can speed up the interface and possibly help with the battery life. Any recommendations? I don't want to theme, or skin...no interest in changing the bootlogo, etc... I just want a nice and FAST phone.
I use a lot of apps...I DON'T let any apps refresh automatically though. I also use Launcher Pro. Thanks in advance.
(Please don't tell me to read the sticky. I have. I need some real life experienced reviews....maybe people who have had an EVO or who understand what I want. Thanks)

LMFAO, i wrote the sticky, which has instructions on how to root and while I havent had the time to update everything I did cover some ROMs which include what you have asked for, so not quite sure what else you could be looking for.... But if you really want an explanation:
Root the phone using z4root and then try out a ROM like Rubix Focused 2.0.1. Drod2169 built the ROM and I am currently using it. The interface is very quick and responsive. He has added in multiple governor settings for overclock which include a conservative governor to allow for better battery life. You can use apps like Droid Overclock (jrummy16) and setCPU to change these governor settings as well. Rubix does very well when overclocked if that is something you are interested in.
If you are looking for a ROM that still has some Blur components in it, then try out Apex 1.4.1 or Rubix 2.0 Blurry. Both are very responsive and have some of the blur that certain people out there are looking for. Last but not least, it seems a great majority of people like Liberty 1.5. I used the ROM for quite some time, and it is very responsive, but a lot of people seem to have issues with lag or reboots. I never had this issue, so I can't quite speak to that issue...
ROM's are really more of a matter of personal choice. Try out a few and see what you like.
As far as a comparison to the EVO... my roommate has one, and 2 of my other best friends have one. I have done MULTIPLE benchmarking tools on their phones to compare against my X (on multiple ROMs). None of their tests have beat mine... In my opinion, the only differences between the EVO and the X is this:
1) Evo has unlocked Bootloader to allow custom kernels so you can run ROMS like CynanogenMod (but given time, CVPCS is compiling CM for the X)
2) Evo has front facing camera for those who can't wait to talk to people via a webcam.
3) Evo has a slightly quicker GPU (graphics processing unit) than the X, but winds up limited to 30FPS for the most part. Some of the benchmarks I have seen on the X jump it up to 62FPS on tests I have run.
4) Evo runs sense from HTC. If you want a "Sense" feel... some have made themes that look just like Sense....but you said you don't want a theme.
That's about it...

The sticky is EPIC...honestly, it's just data and info. I guess I am looking more for opinions. Thank you for the insight.
I had an EVO and that thing had not once, ever, locked up or froze. 2nd day on my Droid X after a hard reset and it is SO laggy.
Unlock screen even lags to get to home. IDK.... I def don't want the "blurware", but the benchmarks on this phone are impressive. It's response and use have not been, in my opinion.
My wife has the Samsung Vibrant and the specs are amazing for that phone too, but NEVER have I seen a phone lock up and freeze so much. She gave her old G1 to my mom and it's like they run at about the same speed.
I'm real tech savy, a huge phone nerd, etc....I just really didn't like my iPhone. I use Apple products for everything else as I am an audio engineer by profession, but the iPhone was SO limited. I had to hack the crap out of it to get basic things that are available on freebie candybar phones.
One thing I have noticed is that it seems to build my photo cache REALLY slow. Now... I have 14 GBs of photo/video on their, but everytime I open a gallery it takes forever to load. It is getting better about this, slowly but surely....do you think my unit is defective, I am expecting too much, or the more I play with it and let it buld a good cache, etc, it will run better?
Thanks for responding, and THANK YOU for the sticky... If I decide to root that thing will be a lifesaver!

I think the type of sdcard you have also makes a difference. If you have a new class 6 card instead of what the phone comes with (I think it is like class 2 or 3) then the read/write speed should be a lot better. I have been using the latest Rubix ROM for about 2 weeks now, and I don't experience any lag or reboots/freezing. I really like this ROM, and actually talk to Drod2169 (the developer) a decent amount. I would take a look at Rubix or Fission 2.5.7 as these are both blur-free ROM's.
I am also a huge tech nerd/geek. I have tweaked the crap out of my X. I have probably tried every ROM/theme there is for this thing, and right now I'm sitting solid on Rubix. I also used Darkslide 4.2 Blurless for a while. It is a ROM built by BBCrackman and some others over at mydroidworld. I would suggest trying Darkslide out. It is pre-themed by the makers of the ROM but I think it has been the most reliable and snappy ROM I have used besides Rubix 2.0.
If you have questions, shoot them at me in here, or hit me up on gchat.

A backup of your files plus a flashing of a new ROM takes about 15 mins max. That's just to get a feel of the ROM and it's functions. So just flash them both, or even more and decide what YOU like.
If you want to test out the battery life, well that will take using the ROM for a few days. No one can truly tell you the difference in battery life because we all use our phones so differently.
I will say this tho: I've used both , and was a diehard TW ROM fan but then I used Trigger. I LOVE Trigger. But it's mostly because of the themeing and because of how involved the dev is in his own ROMs thread with answering questions and taking the users advice, requests, and opinions.
But again, it's really up to what YOU like. Don't listen to dumb quadrant scores and such and others battery opinions. Try them out and see. Both are great ROMS with their own pluses and minuses

A backup of your files plus a flashing of a new ROM takes about 15 mins max. That's just to get a feel of the ROM and it's functions. So just flash them both, or even more and decide what YOU like.

Hello eminembdg, I have been a loyal fan of teamwhiskey and their rims. However, I am about to try triger out this weekend. I just want to know if I will need to disbale voodoo and if there are some other caution I need to take before flash triger's 2.8 rom. I am presently running bionix 1.3. Thanks for your expected response.

No need to disable voodoo if you're flashing from the red recovery. It was an issue with the original voodoo kernels (JAC's) and the ulf ones, but not anymore (in my experience, at least). I was also a TW fan until I tried out Trigger a month or so ago. Haven't changed since.
OP, gonna have to agree with the others. It's your phone, your usage. Try each one out and stick with whichever one you like best. They're both great rom's though.

As long as your rom is currently running voodoo then just as the post above mine stated, no you do not have to disable voodoo.
Hold down power button, click recovery, and if it takes you to a red recovery then you can just flash away like normal.
BTW, Trigger just updated to 2.8.1 today with a nice memory tweak and a couple other small tweaks. GREAT ROM
Thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate your responses. Will do just as advised. Thank you.
I havent used trigger so I cant comment on it, but Ive been a huge TW fan since Nero 4. Stayed with it and I'm still super stoked about the look and the performance.
Vibrant, Bionix-v 1.3.1, Overstock 2.0, Voodoo...
I used to be a HUGE fan of TW and their roms. I used TW roms since Bionix 1.3.
But ever since I tried EDT roms especially Trigger, I dont think I'm gonna bother with TW anymore. Its just that much better.
Been using bionix v 1.2.1 for a while now. Love this rom.

Right now im using bionix and loving it. Trigger is wonderful as well and it seem faster. they have diffrent thems and small differences here and there. so close i basicly had to nit pick to pick one. trigger i had sms problem had to have it a certain format. could this be fix proabably so. for some reason i had a data issue as well other than that everything was great on trigger fast and smooth. Bionix didnt have those issues for me so i went back im trying to find a problem to send me back to trigger but i havent found one yet im about to test battery trigger had a great battery life for me with overstock 1.5. when i checked the system slept pretty well. it would be at 1% over night while charging. time to test bionix see if it compares thats it
Can't download Trigger 2.8.1
Hi everyone,
I am totally new to modifying phones but I am quite computer literate. I like the Vibrant alot but obviously the original software does not perform too well. I have tried to download the Trigger 2.8.1 ROM via the link in the developers section but I get nothing more than a blank page staring at me. Am I doing something wrong? I would have posted there but since I am new I am not allowed
thanks

So i was thinking of changin my rom to Cm7 just for android 2.3, is it laggy? dose it drain the battery more ?? Advice please
Im using CM7 and im loving it my battery seems to be better with cm7 running and its not laggy. However i did mess with the cpu settings and my battery died proper quick but now ive restored its all good again. Try it out and see if you like it
IMHO CM7 provides loads of additional features to the Buzz handset. O.k, as a custom rom it has bugs here and there but that's par for the course and most major ones get sorted. CM7 is the way forward ... there are new roms challenging the top spot but aren't quite there yet. You can always backup current rom and restore it if you don't get on with CM7 so no harm in trying it!
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
As said above, I would say to give it a try. Take a Nandroid backup beforehand, and, if CM7 doesn't suit you, you can always get back to your backed up Stock ROM.
Its definitely worth switching though. I am extremely pleased with it.
Only bad thing about CM7 is the font size. It is extremely small that it looks pixelated and takes out the wow out of the UI.
HTC sense looks best IMO, only reason I root is to get app2SD. Thats it.
I always use stock ROMs. Sorting out the bugs itself is a big time eater. I hate it.
Wtf is wrong with the font size on CM7? It's the same for me and was the same on stock/wildpuzzle... and bugs? pfft lol, that's why you stick with the stable release.
Anyway it's your choice, if you're happy with sense/stock, stick with stock or wildpuzzle or the DK sense rom, if you don't like it and wanna try something new and has heaps of themes, get CM7.
Besides, Font Size can be increased as per your will in CM7.
stay with the stock rom, is better, CM7 allways have a lot of bugs

Most of the designs on CM7 are made for high resolution phones, Wildfire having a lower resolution doesn't look great. Post screen shots of your app-drawer, desktop so on.

Bugs are not enough reason to ditch an OS ?. One bug scares people away. Just one bug.
I am not a developer, just an average user. If you can't satisfy me, then you won't sell anything big. Unfortunately, its so.
I don't get orgasm about any new version of anything. I want things that work seamlessly. Changing versions without solving bugs won't help.

This was true, not any longer, after nhnt11 made the required changes to make CM7 look like it is supposed to on LDPI Devices.
Anyway, its unfortunate that CM didn't suit you, but that is exactly why I think all posts in this thread ask the OP to try out CM, No ROM is perfect, everyone knows this, but, a particular bug for someone may be no big deal to another person. It's all about preference. As for me, even I am an average user, not a dev, and, yes, I am not saying CM is bug free, but, for me, they are no deal breakers.
Who said anything about changing versions? I just said stick to the stable releases, not change whenever a new nightly is released, and if you want the bugs to be resolved, post it to the issue tracker, or tell the devs about the bugs and don't whine about it.
It will get fixed eventually, all you have to do is wait.

I spend money/time on something not to wait(spend more time) but to use it. You still don't seem to be able to understand the viewpoint of someone else. And haven't posted any screenshots. What else would be a way to compare ?
Stable release ?. The number of stable releases devs make kinda doesn't go with "stable" actually. There hasn't been a developer version of ROM without bugs.
I go for perfection, bugs just puts me off.
A guy asked which he should use Stock or CM7. And we gave our views from experience with both. As 3xeno said, its all about preferences.
Even this stock ROM has bugs, but chances are big that you will find some more on CM7, altough I've never worked on it. But the nice thing about it that on CM bugs will be fixed eventualy, whilest on stock ROM you're left alone with it..
Perhaps a first step is to go away from sense. I liked sense, but installed Homelauncher pro just to try, and I have found out that I liked it even more than sense. I am now in the stage where I gradualy change all the stock things on my ROM (for so far it is possible). So I know now that I ceryainly will change my ROM once I can.
So you really have to try: you don't realize what can get better unless you have seen other options. And if you are hesitating because of the 'big' step of changinf ROM, perhaps try to change some typic stock things. You will see for yourself if you want to go and see more of what other ROMs have to offer you.
Or that is at least my oppinion: as stated, I've always worked and am still working on the stock ROM.

So after having been running ICS roms for the past 2 months or so, I decided to switch back to my favorite Gingerbread rom for the hell of it, to see exactly what I'd been giving up for ICS. And WOW, was I blown away. I remember GB was a lot faster than ICS, but geez I did not remember it being this fast. EVERYTHING opens and closes quicker, touch responsiveness is amazing, screens swipe lightning quick, and I'm sorry, even though I did realize ICS improved battery life a little bit from my initial impressions, GB is giving me better battery life than most of the ICS roms I have used. Most importantly to me though, my phone has simply just become more of a joy to use. And less of CHORE. ICS makes texting a pain in the ass. And not only that, but basically doing anything, browsing, having to constantly re-press anything, scrolling.......omg scrolling. Going down your facebook newsfeed is definitely a chore on ICS. Seeing as it goes up a little, half the time you scroll down. But typing is probably the biggest thing for me, since I text a decent amount. I even installed the same GB keyboard I'd used on gingerbread roms (it's a modified stock gb keyboard called "gingerbread keyboard") which I had been able to type so quick and so accuretly with (except for the occasional double letter that the keyboard puts in), but on ICS it was just as inaccurate as any other crap keyboard I'd try out. You just have to type slowwwww, and press hard. Who the hell wants to use their phone like an old person? I sure don't. ICS makes my phone a chore to use.
I'm looking to get some other impressions here, and from both sides (mostly ICS fans, if you don't mind), and just get an overall consensus of what the deal is. I knew I'd missed GB, but I didn't realize it was this much!
Things I'd be missing from ICS: brightness minimum and maximum (having a lower min is really appreciated in my room at night - some later GB roms have this implemented though), the updated Gallery (soo much better on ICS), some features that are nice to have but I don't really change anyway (screen mode, gamma sensitivity, etc.), Chome (LOL jk, chrome sucks **** on mobile), better default video player, having my phone say 4.03, 4.04, or 4.1.1 that's about it. Lemme know some other things you'd miss from ICS if you were to revert back.
Also, I have tried most roms for ICS, ranging from AOKP, AOSP based roms, CM9, Sammywiz ones, MIUI variations. Just for reference, I've tried Shishir, Ressurection AOKP, Foxhound's roms, Basically all of Kaffee's roms, cMIUI, RGUI, AdyScorp's V4, AOKP official, Rootbox, etc. My favorite of those personally was probably Ressurection, and cMIUI. Not a huge fan of AOKP (or the wole CM interface), so cMIUI a bit more.
Btw, the GB rom I'm referring to is AdyScorpius' MIUI GB. Fastest rom I've ever used, period. Battery life from what I remember was not even that good (I mean it's MIUI) even compared to other MIUI's. So considering that I'm noticing it to be on par, if not better than ICS I was running, is noteworthy.
Lay your comments down below.
EDIT: Oh and I've tried a few JB roms already, including CM10, Kaffee's CM10, and X-treme's CM10 based rom. To be honest it's really smooth (coming from ICS though), however it's wayyy too early in the game to compare it to GB for me. To be quite honest, it's really smooth and relatively fast, but since it's still based on ICS, I doubt it will ever feel as good as GB.
I do agree but i got used to ICS and the little problems bundled with it. When samsung decides to update our phones to JB, i hope it'll be a different story

Well, I'm not an pure ICS fan - both versions have their advantages - but I like CM, AOSP and MIUI - and Samsungs camera app. As almost everything here at XDA and other boards is about ICS and now JB I have not expected someone coming up with a thread like this, thanks
I must admit reverting to a 2.6.9 GB MIUI (external link to Fluxi's MIUI GB thread) quite often, too - It somehow just "feels" better than any ICS ROM I tried so far (only 2 months \w I9100, i9000 before, always working on kernels) - touch sensitivity and wakeup lag definately are two reasons for me, too. Battery seems to be almost equal to me.
I'm still looking for "the" firmware, currently testing MIUI 2.7.27 which seems to work quite well, too. But I have a feeling that I'll switch back to GB tonight...
Read in another thread you posted that the WIUI dev might update the GB version, may I ask where you have that information from? Interesting.
Gingerbread was far better than ICS from a raw performance standpoint, i was 100 and 1% happy with the way my phone performed with GB and then i flashed to ICS and got used to extra features (and im the kind of person that doesn't like to be behind the curve).
If google had ported all of the new functionality to GB along with some of the work they did with project butter we would have a MUCH MUCH better platform than we are currently stuck with.
Having a device that doesn't respond the way you would expect to touch input and has noticeable jank and lag in this day and age is NOT acceptable when you have the likes WP7 and iOS out there.
Time is running out Google (& to a degree Samsung) , I've been an Android user since the G1 and 3 devices on my patience is growing short.

I downgraded from ics back to GB 2.3.4 due to ics bugs, lag on the touch screen (sometimes felt like a resistive screen) jerky swipes between home screens, black screen of death, random shut down and disappearing widgets. Like the op says, GB was a revelation again and the galaxy feels reliable, responsive and fast again. I'm staying put now till next year when my contact ends, I came from iPhone to android and maybe it will be wp8 next, or maybe a galaxy s3.....
I miss the face unlock, swipe to dismiss notifications and the task manager of ics, that's about all

I'm hoping the same thing man haha. But honestly I'm not having my hopes up anymore. I know that the CM10 preview builds don't have HW Accelerator working, and that the sensitivity does seem a bit better than ICS (more in the 'ok-eh' category instead of 'bad' like ICS), but I've seen a couple builds that claim to have HW Acceleration working, so if that makes a drastic improvement we'll see. Honestly I thought when ICS came out that it was just early in developemnt and that they'd work out the jags and stuff....yeah no. It's 3 months later and performance-wise it's relatively similar. AOKP has gotten much smoother though, but there's only so much you can do.

I really appreciate your comments, especially coming from someone who has experience with kernels, it gives the whole discussion a little more validity. Wake lag is definitely annoying, honestly that's one of those things that by itself, you would think could be dismissed, but when added to the touch sensitivty, and sluggishness, just makes you think..what the hell.
Btw I was actually looking at WIUI last night by chance and also saw that he actually is updating his GB version. I had to re-read it a few times to make sure I wasn't mistaken. He's got a 6.29 version out, and in the comments he said he would do 8.4 (around there). I'll probably flash that, as my April GB rom is probably really outdated....hah.

I agree with you that it probably would have made a lot more people happy had they stuck with a thoroughly upgraded GB instead of making a new platform. However although ICS sucks performance-wise (interface, anyway), it is actually pretty good in terms of efficiency. If you notice while restoring text messages or installing something via titanium backup, or shutting off your phone, things run quicker on ICS. ICS is more efficient, for sure. Which is why I hate even more how it is, because it has potential but for some reason still just completely sucks.
I'm gonna have to rant on google: *these are new thoughts just realized a minute ago* Google is definitely behind the ball in terms of what they're releasing. Google has always been out of touch with the people[/B. I'm only 20 but I was able to pick this up over the last couple years. They suck at knowing what people want, or at least are too hung up with their own projections that they don't see the people in which they're serving. You can tell google doesn't know what they're doing because you see it in everything they do. Example 1) Changing Android Market to Google Play Store. Obviously, there are plenty of reasons for them to do that (main probably being to get their name out - not everyone knows android is google based, and also to put all their apps into one [google music, google books, ect]), but they could have done that without changing the name to something EVERYONE HATES. Example 2) Google chrome (desktop). I use Chrome on my home PC. It's really fast. Other than that, I hate everything about it. The interface is styled, but looks like it was organized by an amateur, and is poorly structured. Functinoality is splintered and not well thought out. Firefox beats it in every single category, except for performance. Wish I could go back to firefox. Example 3) Chrome (Mobile), this app is unstable, and probably the slowest browser on the market...and yet it is the only video playing browser available on JB (no flash anymore)... Firefox BETA is 300% more stable than chrome's Non Beta app.
GB was fine, but ICS's regression is total bull (and I'm not talking to official update - samsung), and honestly as mentioned above it is just debasing them for the future. Honestly, I had an itouch for a couple years, and have used countless friends iphones over the years, so I know what it's like. Just the simple fact that going back to MIUI GB has made me the happiest I've been in a while...is saying something. I hate to be the ass who brings up negative things, but if they had been doing things right in the first place, things wouldn't have to be mentioned. I'm not too picky, but I do demand quality. Although I've never even considered it in the past, I'm looking forward to seeing what they're rolling out for the iphone 5, cus it may actually make a difference in my next phone.

Yeah I mean if you haven't rooted yet you're definitely missing out on like 50+ roms to try. There's plenty of different categories and types. You'll probably be amazed when you flash one of the latest (or last) GB build roms. They're blazing. Ady MIUI is like iOS on steroids. Cept the battery is meh. That's the only problem. And of course GB seems outdated now, but it's still got higher usability, imo. Part of what kills ICS is it takes so much longer for you to do things on your phone. I bet it drives up screen on time

Oh I gotcha. Yeah honestly stock camera blows all the other cameras away. Stock ICS camera is pretty decent too, but the button on stock gb is the best. feels more secure, and focus is instantaneous with press. MIUI (GB) is decent too except I found the quality a little worse and instant focus a little less accurate. Anti-shake is terrible on MIUI camera too.
Wow GB. Amazing memories .I think the best GB was XXKI4. But what can I know... I had GB for 2 or 3 months since this year's winter and then Boom! Boot loop. You know why guys?? I had brand XWKI4 and there were battery mods for XXKI4.So I flashed those ;p. And then came XXLPS.Now I am on LQ7 but It's not the same. Thanks bro I was waiting for man wich will lead me to GB. i would love to try a few if they are really faster than ics (smoother).
was so close to try cm10 but so much stuff needs to be fixed...
for me the most important thing would be cam and a smooth feeling.
and can i use nova launcher prime on gb (is it looking the same?)
i never tried gb (my s2 came with ics, so....)
I haven't used GB since I got my S2, but I used it exclusively on my original S. When I moved from phone to phone I found the speed increase of GB on an S to ICS on my S2 simply mind blowing. I know it's nearly a 200% processor boost, but still. Now I'm using JellyBean. I get a full day of near constant use with an extended battery. (I'm a teen, we text all the time, so it gets a pretty heavy workout.) and the speed BLOWS AWAY Gingerbread and ICS without question.
So no, I don't miss it personally. And I'm using SwiftKey, which is an absolute dream. Way better than any stock kb I've ever used.
