Android Central: HTC Says 2.3 for DInc This Summer - Droid Incredible General

Android Central has this from a customer that contacted HTC.
The bigger question for me: which version of Sense will it get? (2.0? 2.1? 3.0? something entirely different?)
[Could someone post the link for me, still can't put outside links in]

First off, here's that link you wanted...
Second, if it gets Sense 3.0 I will **** myself. Likely 2.0, but still...

I really like that lockscreen in 3.0.
Also I guess its worth speculating over which gingerbread it will get. The rumors about the Droid X update had 2.3.3, but supposedly 2.4 is in the works.

As i said with Froyo, I'll believe this when I see it.

I think its "impossible" for us to get sense 3.0 because well its built to run on dual core phones as you see only two phones have been "announced" and not "released" that will run sense 3.0 and both have dual core 1.2 ghz processors and i dont think htc would give us sense 2.0 since sense 2.1 is so similar so if we get sense 2.1 or 2.0 it will be 2.1 because of it's similarities and thats only a slim chance that we will get sense 2.1 because we might stick with out original sense which will be very sad but as the other guy said if the incredible gets sense 3.0 i will also **** myself hehe.

Unfortunately, it's official - HTC will not be supporting Sense 3.0 on non-dual core devices. So it's Sense 2.x or bust for us.
http://mobiputing.com/2011/04/htc-sense-3-0-will-only-run-on-newest-phones-tablets/

I would imagine HTC would port Sense 2.0 to the Incredible, rather than working with Sense 1.0. That being said, I've been wrong before.

And the clarification:
"Clarification: aspects of the latest HTC Sense won’t work on some previous devices. We are working to incorporate other aspects that will"
Perhaps Sense 2.1.1? Or 2.2?

Odds are we will be on sense 2.0. Engadget just posted an article saying that only the newwer phones will get 3.0 so that's a non-issue. HTC did say we will get gingerbread by end of 2nd qt 2011 so we should be good on that.

The big question is... will be it worth unrooting and loading back on all that bloatware for the 2.3 update?
I'm sure a couple of the devs around here will help all of us not make that decision.

We wont be getting Sense 3 thats for sure, but once again I don't really care what we get since I'm rooted and will always have the best stuff available before stock users

Compared to the Evo Gingerbread leak yesterday, the Inc might get stuck with Sense 1.0...

yes but that leak can turn into sense 2.0 within a day

I'm concerned that we will get locked from being able to root after the update. I think that happened with the Aria when AT&T pushed out the 2.2 update where the phone was unrootable after that?
Am I mistaken or is this a legit concern? I'm kind of a newbie to the root scene so I could be being a total idiot here.

Hey incubus any chance of that getting ported to our incredibles?

I'm still happy with CM7 so IF we get it I probably won't install it.

I could be mistaken, but given that you can set S-off, doesn't that pretty much guarantee that you can always flash a custom recovery and then, flash a rooted ROM?
Besides, even if the update is "unrootable"... I have no doubt that smarter people than I will be able to find a way.

HTC EVO to run Froyo?!?!

I just found this, any credibility here?

i highly doubt this ! how come they updated the sense ui for the froyo release so early when it took the too much time for eclair ?
i think its true. with current versions of android not supporting front cameras, hdmi out, or 4g they would have to be running an updated version

That doesn't necessarily mean froyo. 1.5 doesn't support CDMA yet both the Hero and the Samsung Moment have 1.5... All they have to do is hack support for those features into their version of 2.1. Doesn't rule out 2.2, but i doubt it.
But it is true that Google is pushing out Android development a lot faster than manufacturers are able to customize their phones with it. Plus Google and HTC are in bed together.
I remember these days.....
nice bump!!! can't believe they got it done. Really, what is this; Feb. 2011 or something?

Froyo (2.2) to have extreme performance gains and full flash support

Hey guys check out the Linpack scores they are getting on a Nexus One running Froyo.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...-it-compared-to-2-1-oh-only-about-450-faster/
450% faster than 2.1??? Seriously? ;o
I hope we can get to a point where it's easier to get the stock roms on the hero and other phones. Maybe the mode 'module' design I've heard discussed will help things along.
Sean
tbh im think this is whats holding up 2.1. i think the hero will get 2.2 and sprint will skip 2.1 all together, makes sense if you think about it.

So Gingerbread (2.3) is here and I wanted to be the first nagging user to ask when we are going to see the port for the Aria?

This was a rumor a few months ago that was pretty much shot down. If you need proof, look at the G2. There's no way they would release it with an 800mhz processor if Gingerbread required 1ghz.
Yeah, you can't limit an OS because of processor clock cycle. Clock cycles in these days isn't as important as it used to be. We are in the new age of multi-core and instruction sets for optimization. Hell, look at the G1, it's running Froyo - now that's impressive!
Don't know if you guys saw this or not( http://www.xda-developers.com/android/breaking-news-gingerbread-2-3-running-on-droid-eris/ ), but punk.kaos got Gingerbread kinda working on the Eris. In terms of power the Eris is sort of a bottom feeder so if it can run on the Eris it definitely can run on the Aria. But we will have to be patient, unless someone knows how to port the source to the Aria. I am loving 6.1 right now, so I can wait for Gingerbread at the moment.
A guy got a hacked port to boot on his HTC Wildfire which is slower than the aria. No this does not mean a port will come to the aria yet.

It was also assumed by many that Android 3.0 would be Gingerbread. Instead, Gingerbread is 2.3.
With 3.0, there are rumors of higher end graphics and processor requirements.

True. It looks like Liberty/Slide/Legend will be included when CM goes to Android 2.3.
I am not sure about 3.0 though, if it's going to be targeted exclusively at larger, more powerful, higher resolution devices. Time will tell how successfully that stuff will be supported on MDPI devices it's not intended for with 1 1/2 gen processors, even with decent GPUs.
Gingerbread's already ported to Wildfire, which only has around 528 mhz. So we might get it. if someone works on it.

Currently the Gingerbread ports are messy patches to the emulator system.img which happens to be for qualcomm/snapdragon type chips.
Just be patient and wait for source, anything we get before then will be hella slow and missing functionality.
Seeing as the Gratia launched with Froyo it woudln't suprise me if we get official Gingerbread at some point.

I know I'm not going to hold my breath for an official release. Based on what I've been reading on several forums, there have been rumblings that the Aria might not see an official 2.2 (Which quite frankly I had already given up hope on).
Who knows though, perhaps AT&T and HTC decided that since it's deployment on 2.2 was so late, that they would wait until 2.3... or 2.4... 5, or 6.
Either way, thanks for everything devs, CM and Liberated are both great Froyo ROMs, and I've used both without a hitch.
I think 2.3 will come to Aria (in CM), but I will wait at least N1 got updated. (Propably N1 won't got official update for marketing issue)
Don't trust rumors about the 1GHz bla bla bla, if Gingerbread is not 3D based and lots of effects and still require 1GHz to run smoothly, I believe it's a buggy OS (based on the NS, it's just like an big update for Froyo).

Google has already pledged that Nexus One will get Gingerbread, so no issue there.
HTC said back in the beginning of the year that any device launched in 2010 will get upgraded to Froyo, so that includes the AT&T Aria, so we'll definitely get official Froyo for that.
Whether the AT&T Aria will get Gingerbread officially is up in the air, but I'm all but certain that the Gratia will, given that it just launched with 2.2.

im SURE that when the roms hit for the evo 3g, rom developers for the DHD will be coaxing/ manipulating some features from there
All websites are stating that the Evo 3D gets Sense 2.1. Unless HTC are making to versions of 2.1 we'll get it to.
The current TestROMs of Gingerbread with Sense 2.1 doesn't have those nice features, but they are TestROMs, so maybe HTC will include them on release.

Come On HTC where's my Sense 3.0

HTC have proven that they will listen to the community by announcing future unlocked bootloaders.
Having just had a play with a Sensation I do like the look and operation of Sense 3.0. I know there are custom Roms ported from 3.0 but what I really want is an official upgrade. My DesireHD is plenty fast enough at the moment so I don't want to shell out big money for a dual core handset just to get Sense 3.0.
So perhaps HTC could prove they love us for more than 6 months (normal product cycle) by producing a Sense 3.0 for their handsets that are up to it AND unlock the bootloader at the same time. If enough people think so maybe just maybe we will be heard.
They already stated that they wouldn't be providing any sense 2.1 handsets with a sense 3.0 upgrade.

They also locked the bootloaders. And said no GB for the Desire. If enough customers want it and make it known, then maybe they could spare someone to produce a port of 3.0 for the lower res screens.
My OTA update to 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1 went without a hitch (so far so good).
I had fun trying all sorts of ROMs on my Hero (and still do) but the DesireHD is 'mission critical' and I need it to all work all the time. I am in awe of the skills of the ROM cooks but sometimes the product still comes out half baked.
HTC will *NOT* sacrifice user experience for new features (if any). Don't forget that Sense 3.0 came with the dual core Sensation. Yes, it can be made to work good-ish but you'll never see HTC overclocking their phones. Unlocking the bootloader does no damage to HTC (especially if it voids the warranty) so they did it. This has nothing to do with Sense 3.0 - we are more likely in the position of the Desire users: GB can run on their phones but it doesn't meet the performance standards of HTC. So no official GB for them... and no Sense 3.0 for us...

Half baked you said. There are more than 8 stable, more faster and smoother roms for DHD here including 2 powerful roms with full sense 3.0 support. Check the threads, hardly a discussion about a bug anymore just themes, rosie and what not.

nochance of that happening as the first poster said, im currently using RcMix3D 1.9 which the dark v3 patch which is sense 3.0 and its wikked i love it, ive tried all the roms on here and this is the best
recently i bought dhd unfortunately by mistake up dated the machine, now i can not go for sense 3.0. a,m about to got rid of the machine if will remain on sense 2
any help from XDA .
I think its HTC marketing strategy. They may think that now one would buy the Sensation or Evo 3d if some of the older Phones had 3.0.
But if you watch the videos how poorly Sense 3.0 runs on the Sensation maybe their honest with the performance and they can´t make a smooth runnig Sense 3.0 update for the DHD.
Don´t know wich is worse but you´ll have to flash a custom rom if you want Sense 3.0.

True. Everyone has his own feel over how thinks should work. I had the chance to buy a brand new Sensation, so I decided to compare it with my DHD running LeeDroid with Sense 3.0 port. Can You guess which one is laggier and slower? Surprise, surprise it's the Sensation. Even though the CPU is 0,2 GHz faster and a dual core, it seems as if the two cores are not syncronised and do not use the RAM in the best possible way. Sure for multithreaded apps the Sensation is faster, but how many of those are out there? And the heat. They say DHD has a overheating problem... Try using a Sensation or a SGS II for more than 30 minutes. They'll burn your hand I bet the next HTC will be 1,5 GHz and will be called the Untouchable (LMAO)
