Hey there,
Broke the screen on my EVO (but it still works) and have a new one coming from Asurion today.
I had rooted my phone a while back and installed Mikfroyo.
Can anyone tell me the quickest way to make my new EVO just like my old one?
I purchased the pro version of Titanium Backup and installed on my old phone. Do I use this or NAND to make a full backup?
Do I have to root my phone, then install Mikfroyo and then restore from backup? Or is there an easier way?
Thanks for any help here!
Use titanium. It isn't a good idea to use a backup from one phone on another. (Recovery backup) just have titanium backup your apps and you should be good. If you don't have tour contacts on your gmail you'll want to back up those too.

Yeah especially because you don't want to accidentally copy over your old phone's RSA keys as they will be disabled when they get the phone.
Thanks guys! So, just to confirm, I do, in fact, have to root my phone and then install MikFroyo again, then restore my apps via Titanium?
Can I restore my email configs, wallpaper, and all that stuff?
Thanks!
If your staying with the same rom version sure. I wouldn't otherwise as it could cause problems. Yeah you will have to do all of it again.

Mmmm... ok.. well looks like I will just build a new phone then. I don't really have that many apps. Was more wanting to save my email configs and other misc things.
I rooted my first phone many months ago and sort of forgot which method I used to root.
Can anyone kindly point me to the recommended way to root these days? I would be very grateful for a link. Thank you.

My fascinate recently stopped recieving text messages and Verizon has sent me a new phone to replace it but I want to make sure the fact that I rooted it is covered up. I used the odin restore and it worked properly. Will this cover up the fact that I had my phone rooted?
Yes. If you did a full restore to stock with ODIN, it is now exactly like it was out of the box.
Check in your apps to make sure Superuser is gone. Then you should be good.

This is REAL good advice. I had to take my fascinate back to Verizon last night for an issue I couldn't resolve through these forum threads . I flashed back to stock, which un-rooted the phone (and got rid of SU) and as a thought uninstalled the apps requiring root and the backup folders for titanium and rom manager. The FIRST thing they did was look through my apps and folders. I just smiled and said thank you for their help and on the way home silently thanked the Devs at xda for all their hard work and advice. You people are gold!
I have had my X for around 6 months and have wanted to flash a rom but have been scared to say the least! I have a nandroid of my phone which is up to date OTA, rooted, overclocked, and otherwise stock. My question is if I flash this rom and for some reason don't like it, can I restore with my nandroid and get my phone back to the way that it is without any issues? Also, does this rom delete my contacts and other information? I really like the backup assistant for all of my contacts (over 500). Thanks in advance for any answers and advice!

As long as you take a nandroid backup you are safe =) I recommend syncing your contacts to google...then no matter what rom you use, you can always pull your contacts back down. So yes, it will wipe out your contacts.
Let me know if you have more questions! =)

Yeah if you didn't like the liberty rom you could restore your nandroid backup and it will literally be exactly the same when you backed it up... regarding your issue about contacts...when you flash a new rom... once its done installing and boots up its like the first time you turned your phone on so yes everything will be deleted... if you're worried about apps download titanium back up pro and back up your apps and data.. or it will download all yours all from the market...your issue about contacts, personally i used the back up assistant first but ended up just using google contacts because its the easiest way to restore contacts when you flash roms every so often... that's my opinion, i may be wrong...and if you're scared about flashing a rom... i think everyone was on their first time... you just gotta go for it!

Just wanted to thank you guys for your input. I went ahead and installed the rom, used Titanium to back up my apps and so far I LOVE IT! It is ALOT faster than stock, just have to get used to the new UI. I also took the liberty since I was experimenting with something that I can't live without and did the uncapped data mod. I am hoping that it will make a difference as well. I have alot of new things to test and play with tonight, just hope that I can go to sleep so that I can make it to work tomorrow!
A special thanks to the developers for this rom, it is AWESOME!
Don't just limit yourself to liberty...i agree when people say roms are a personal choice... so give all of them a chance!

If I use titanium to backup my apps can I load my apps into the rom I decide to flash? And how do you go about it?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah if you back up your apps with titanium pro..you just restore them once you flash the rom...ill make a nandroid of roms i like... but i always stick to apex... i like some blur stuff...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I recently took the leap and flashed my first rom a few days ago too. I ended up going with Apex and like it much better than stock so far. I am thinking of doing like hullie said above and trying out some different ones in the coming weeks like Liberty and GummyJar. It's definitely scary at first, but once that first boot up was complete, the look on my face was like a child on Christmas morning.
I agree-was scared at first like getting my first xxxxx! Lol-anyway, now its second nature as long as you have your backup. Try darkslide rom. Two versions. Blur and blurless..

Correct. By default I don't believe any of the custom ROM's (just a guess..can't recall for sure) come with google maps installed. You must pull this down yourself.
Thanks guys

Yeah, installing your first ROM can be quite nerve-racking, but once you've done it you say to yourself, 'that's it? i was so worried about that for nothing!".
I'm currently on my first ROM, which is Liberty, and although I love it, I can't use the camcorder for some reason to record movies. I tried installing both the aosp camera and blur camera, but both just FC.
the very minute before you install the rom make a nandroid and remember to ALWAYS wipe the phone before installing the rom. if you dont like the rom, reinstall dxbootstrp from the market and recover your nandroid.
as for your contacts: screw backup assistant. sync ALL your contacts with google and they will be automatically on your phone as soon as you sign in with you google account.

Did you update to the 2.3.340 update before installing LIberty? I was running Liberty on top of 2.3.15 and this is due to an incompatible library (.so) file in /system/lib
If you want the files for 2.3.15, let me know. I have them laying around someone :looks around:
The latest update I did was the one ota that included Madden. Is that 2.3.15?

No you are on 2.3.340. I'm not sure why you are having problems with the camera. If it really bothers you, I would suggest re-flashing liberty.

I am currently thinking about rooting my samsung epic.I was planning on going through with with the easy one-click root. My question about rooting is if I root it would I be unable to upgrade to 2.3 when samsung actually releases it?

From what I know when you root and run different ROMs you cant get OTAs. But its simple enough to restore your phone to stock
So root away!
And besides...once Gingerbread does come out the custom ROMs built off of that will make it worth it to root again
So check my signature for qbkings how to videos and get to it
Sorry I am really at both rooting and posting threads. How would i go about returning to stock when 2.3 releases? and then could I do the same process to re root after i get the ota? and I will check your videos, thanks for all your help man.
scratch what i just wrote about how to haha. Does the odin flash to stock erase all my contacts and current apps on my phone?

Yes, and the rooting process for Epic Gingerbread us still under discussion. If you upgrade from a custom froyo rom to a custom gb rom, you'll bypass having to root again and lose minimal data.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Do you mean the current gb roms that have been leaked and are out for rooted phones now? or do you mean when samsung themselves release the update that the update itself will be available for rooted phones in a rooted state itself? and if you meant the current gb updates that have been release are they smooth running or still a bit glitchy since they aren't the finished product? I apologize if any of this is common sense haha
If you root now and put a custom 2.2 rom on phone then you can just wait a day or two after the ota gb release before ace or someone else releases a custom rom based on the ota gb release. Then you will be able to flash the upgrade and not lose data. I would suggest Midnight, bonsai or syndicaterom frozen by acs.
Samsung Epic SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1
I actually have no idea what rom I am going to to go with after i root it haha. Ive just had this phone for a few months and feel like doing something new, i also want to put a free wifi app on there so i dont have to pay sprint more for a feature i had free on my old tp2. like i said I am a complete rookie to this besides putting cfw on my old psp and having android on my tp2 , and that means that if i just wait for the gb rom to come out complete after someone makes a custom for it than il just have to come back to the great xda and upgrade myself?
The newest syndicate rom would be right up your alley. Read the instructions, watch the video and you'll be fine.

I'm you guys are getting annoyed with all my questions so il aske a few last ones and will root my phone with in the hour. Does using a different rom transfer my apps and contacts? i wasnt sure if it acted as a new skin or a duel boot kind of like how my tp2 was. If i back up my phone right after the root I am guessing i can restore to back up if i am not a fan of the rom, or is there a different way? You guys are a ton of help thanks the root and lancelane.

Some ROMs back up your data, and others do not. It depends on the ROM. You should do a simple root, and backup with Titanium backup and do a Nandroid backup as well. Just in case. Apps and contacts usually are available when you log back into your gmail but if you save contacts on phone instead of google they won't. You can also export your contacts to google or your sd card.
Ask away. But also look at the videos.
the contacts are not that big of a deal since i do have it saved on my gmail, but i didn't think my apps could be saved and transfered. and random question i have a few games saved on tiger gba and psxondroid, would i lose those save files saved on the emulator on the new rom? I know i don't loose any of that on the root or so my research lead me to believe.

Again that depends on the ROM. Some, like Bonsai, now back up and then restore your data. If you root and use Titanium backup you will be able to restore data to those games if they get wiped.
Ok so somehow i suck at the one-click method. It says something about no phone being found. I guess i will have to get a bb usb cord and try again.

Most anti-virus and some firewalls see rageagainstthemachine as a trojan so will block it and sometimes delete it.
I have a rooted droid X and would like to install the Liberty ROM. I have installed custom ROMS before.
If I take a backup of my apps using Titanium backup can I restore the apps using the backup onto the newly installed liberty ROM?
Any guidance on this would be appreciated.
Nobody? I am getting anxious to try liberty.
_____
Yes.
_____
Yes. That is the process I've been following for any new ROM.
I really hope you use the paid version of Titanium... if not you will need to approve each app's installation individually when you run the batch restore.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
Liberty can actually backup and restore apps, TB can then be used to restore some game app data, so if you liberty, u have no need for the paid version of TB
I think everyone said it already but yes its easy as pie no worries
No. Don't use pirated applications. What do you think this is? an iPhone?
Also, don't bring back threads that are over a year old.

Two things here I will address...
First, this type of language will not be tolerated...
Second, the discussion of pirated and or cracked software, additionally will not be tolerated.
Thank You
Hi I have a second hand dhd from Irlands meteor metodik no pre loaded crappy no sim lock in fack all is good. I am running the latest update for this phone Android and fwd.
Question is I want ro use titanium back up one my mobile to back up my apps and what not. Tjej app says it needs rooting is this my only option to downgrade and Vindeln there as I would just rather isen my phone these days than use cfw gave that up a year or so ago.
Thancks for all yur input

Sent from my Desire HD
yup you need to downgrade then you can continue...there is alot of procedures you can find here in xda. good luck and congrats with your DHD.
Anyway, this titanium backup is overrated, especially for restoring backups
You need Root to use Titanium backup. "My BackUp Pro" will backup your apps and other info and it does not require root. It will not backup your app data. So saved points and progress in your apps will be lost.
Yes when you follow the rooting method you will need to install clockwork. You cannot simply just root the ROM you are on and stay with it.
And FYI, Titanium backup is far from being over rated. It is the best out there.
thanx every one for imput after reading an lookin at a few forums I went for mybackup pro.
I like my dhd an don't realty need a custom rom as it OS sim free this is from what I ave read the best none root option.

Rooting will improve your DHD performance and battery life. You should seriously consider it. There is a little work involved in downgrading and rooting but it is worth it...

Rooting alone, does not do those things. Using specific ROMS and/or Kernels will (maybe). Other than that, I would totally agree, that its worth the hassle.
