[Q] In call volume low? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi
I've used XBmod WP7 ROM and the in call volume is far too quiet and people have a hard time hearing me on the phone (no Sound Enhancer can't make the caller volume any louder) and I was just wondering is this a problem that all WP7 ROMs share or is it just XBmod's ROM or is there a way to boost the caller volume? This is the only thing really stopping me from going to WP7 full time.

I've only used the original DFT rom & the Twilight rom. In the original it seemed louder than in the Twilight rom. I have to use headphones on calls or I can't hear much of the conversation. But I love this rom other than that, plus I don't feel like re-loading all my apps. Wish it was a little more simple to re-load them like on winmo. But don't get me wrong, I love WP7 & the Twilight roms, I just need to figure out how to fix this on my own, I think.
From what I've read/heard though, most roms are too quiet in-call for me especially.

Please Please PLease read FAQ thread before asking anything......

Anyways this is answer to your question,
Q - How do i increase the in call volume, its set to max (10) but is still too quiet?
A - Change this reg key : HKCU/ControlPanel/Volume/MaxinCallUIVolume from 10 to 15 (15 is loud enough for me, be careful going much higher)

This does not work, have tried it. It won't make the volume any louder. It just makes the increments smaller but DOES NOT change the volume. Just because it's a sticky doesn't make it true, lol.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

It does work.... I have tested it and thats why I am suggesting...Just not because it is sticky...I am using frantic ROM

I've tried it as well & it has made no difference in the Twilight rom. Many others have said the same. Glad it works for you, but it doesn't for many of us.

It doesnt work...it just makes the increments smaller, but the max output is still the same. I went as high as 30 and its exactly the same. Can anyone say placebo effect "hardik1us"...

Try this ROM by Ansar, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510444
You wont be dissapointed the volume level is quite good in all areas (Speaker/Headset/Phone)

Htc hd2 sound quality

When I talk on this phone, the sound is very poor... Although not too loud (like other complaints) but the sound crackles at high frequencies... The speakerphone is even worse...
Is anyone aware of some tweaks to improve communication sound on this phone?
Can AudioBooster be set up to work with the phone's sound not only the music player? Any other options ???
Thank you in advance.

I think the high volume on this phone is artificially boosted over what it's meant to be, i.e. HTC have modified the audiopara (or something like that) in the Windows folder to try and boost the speakers sound over what it's meant to be.
(Something that ROM coookers figured out on the Diamond I think).
I think, maybe someone can reduce those values back to normal? The speaker will be a little quieter, but it won't crackle or distort as much.

Which radio do you recommend? I have Leo_RADIO_2.07.50.27_2 and a terrible sound while on the phone.
Sound is to loud, impossible to lower volume enough. Much distortion even at lowest volume (which still is to loud). Bad sound in cable handsfree and BT handsfree.
Soundquality while playing music on the other hand is perfect in speaker, handsfree and BT handsfree.
Suggestions?
Since sound is often a pretty subjective matter, so I'd like to interject that the phone network only transmits from around 300 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Therefore the sound of a voice over your phone will never sound as clear and nice as it should, let alone like the 192 kbps-MP3-file you are playing
If it's worse compared to other phones however it's, as stated above, likely a problem with the radio. I use the 2.08.50.08_2 from [REF]The HTC HD2 Radio ROM Thread and have a quite decent quality.
I agree totally - if it sounds good or bad is individually. But, the sound quality in my HD2 is far worse than in my 5 years old SonyEricsson, and when I borrowed a Nokia the other day I was surprised how good (clear, crisp, distorsion free) a cell phone can sound.
I have a lot of distorsion and all too loud sound. Often I have to hold my phone 20 cm away from my ear just to avoid getting half deaf..
Thanks for the tip, I'll try the 2.08.50.08_2 Radio and hope for a better sound
you can try this hotfix...worked very well @my hd2
i got this from another forum.
little info: some users said that the soundlevel is now always set up to 100%...but try it on your own!

Thanks, trying it now, will report back after tomorrow's hardcore testing at work..
Return it if you can...
I had Nokia E71 before and it's speaker is fo another level better than HD2... BUT, question is: when I'm gonna use speakerphone on my HD2? ... almost never
Seems better, but a little to subjective at the moment. Will keep trying and report back!
Definitely better after the patch. Quite good actually. I have not seen any side effects yet, only clear sound, and better volume.
Thanks for the hotfix!
Will try it on my colleague's phone also now.
sound quality
I used the hotfix as well but it appears to have made no difference whatsoever to the quality of sound during calls , so my phone is going back to htc again and if it returns with the same issues i will ask for a replacement as due to the ammoun of posts on here this is a major flaw in the phone and a highly irritating one too , i love this phone but the audio quality during calls is appalling in comparison to all my previous phones .
After a couple more days of testing I found out that the patch gave no effect at all. BUT: I found out another thing: Even though the system volume is at lowest according to the meter, if you increase, you actually lower the volume. So, if you during a call first increase and then decrease the volume, it gets acceptable. Still to loud though.
So, it seems like what HTC really should do is to get the dialer use the sound mixer properly. Today it is obviously oversteering which creates distorsion.
this is a war we won't win

I've bought my HD2 back in Dec the 11th and since then I've been in contact with HTC about fixing this problem. They've given me a debug tool to run on my device, sent the logs twice and so far they've done nothing about it. I've given up. What I do for outgoing calls, while it rings I turn the volume all the way up and then all the way down before the other party answers. doing this you get a decent sound. Can't do much about the incoming calls,
As far as flashing different radios and roms... I've flashed about 30time already. tried all the possible radio/rom combinations but with only slight different results. Nothing to brag about!
the fix I attached helps a little bit!
If anybody finds and cure let us all know! please!!!!!

[Q] Low Media Volume

No doubt I'll get flamed for asking a question that must of been asked before. So I apologise beforehand, but I searched and couldn't find the answer.
I know it's known the Android volume is lower than WinMo, does anyone know of a way to increase it? I don't have issues with in-call volume. Just media volume like YouTube player and the Music Player.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.
I am also encountering this volume problem. Also when I recorded a video, the quality was great, but the video volume is extremely low. Hope someone out there has a fix. Thanks in advance.
i would also be interested in finding out about this, at least someone reffer to us to a link and help us find the answer please
Looks like the problem is common to Android in general. The most promising info i found that somewhat made sense to me was this thread.
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00649.html
But I can find the files... make one of the cooks can make sense of it.
Bangsters lastest has the best volume I've heard yet.. haven't tried the other CM based Roms though I'm kinda hooked on this one.. just need to update my sig
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
i think it is a general android issue , my x10 also has the same issue
What's wierd is that I know it has the potential to be ear-splitting, but android just limits it for some reason. Sometimes when I first start playing music, The sound will absolutely BLAST for like half a second, and then 'corrects itself' down to a much lower volume.
I'm hoping they crack this nut soon too. The volume on Shubcraft is *okay*, but I still find myself turning it up as loud as it'll go. I have a pair of Hello Kitty headphones with a volume dial built in to them & they're really good for boosting music volume. For anyone who's having a problem with media volume, I suggest getting some headphones like this(not necessarily HK-branded lol).
Thank you all for the replies, at least I'm not the only one who was wondering. If it's just a general Android issue then I'll live with it, use headphones perhaps like someone suggested (not Hello Kitty though)
I have noticed though, with the game Paper Toss, the volume is loud. However when I use the YouTube player or Music Player and I find it difficult to hear at times. Unless I'm in a completely silent room. Doesn't make sense if It can go loud, why it doesn't. Or there's no App to boost the volume, that I can find anyway.

My #1 concern with Android builds at the moment: Volume.

I know at first many complained of speaker volume being too low. So developers did something. What exactly was done?
I have noticed 3 things with all builds I have tried:
1. When making/recieving calls the initial volume is random, either too soft or too loud. The volume indicator (one that comes up when volume buttons are pushed) never seem to relate to the actual volume level. Often the volume indicator is all the way down while the volume is all the way up. And in order to turn it down I have to adjust the volume indicator all the way up and then move it back down which works. Weird.
2. In-call audio sounds bad compared to WinMo. It sounds harsh, like its very slightly distorted. Its as if there are audio/eq settings in Android that don't match the hardware.
3. Finally, why this is my biggest concern, I blew out my outside speaker when on speaker phone in Android (there was a little pop sound in the middle of a call, I could not hear rings or anything after that, in WinMo as well). I am starting to see others report this. Luckily I got it replaced. But I am now scared to do speaker phone in Android. I have used speaker phone with WinMo plenty with no issues.
I used to have inconsistent sound issues in some builds, I used Louder Volume Hack from the market to modify the volume for headset, bluetooth and in call boost (Range) and it works pretty fine. As for the external speaker, I can't really say... I haven'T noticed.
I have this problem too! My speaker phone blew up while I was using Mdeejay eVo Sense v. 2.3 rEVOlution. I'm pretty sad because I can't even get notifications anymore or rings. I have to leave my phone on vibrate. Speaker doesn't even work on winmo either. I tried task 29, new winmo rom, new android rom and tried to factory reset and nothing work. I'm pretty sure my speaker is done.
Froystone 2.3 on 7.6 the sound volume was great. No problems however going to evolution 2.3 I notice I struggle to hear on some calls.
i get great sound in skinnyevo by phireMOD. havent tried speakerphone though, doubt ever will after reading this thread.
I haven't had any issues with my speaker.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
My number 1 concern too.
I use the HD2 for navigation and playing around. I have a e71 for phonecalls.
The speakervolume with the latest kernels is an absolute dissaster for me.
I don't see any developers reacting on this issue reported by several people which frightens me a bit.
I dont mean to curb people from using their speaker phone. I am just one experience. But I wanted to see if anyone else had the the same problem. Particularly the not-so-great sounds issue in general.
What build was running when You had speaker failure ?
Try the [UPD][BUILD][01.11.10]|<<Mdeejay FroYo Sense Series>>|2.29.405.2\
Next Sense 2.7
Very loud. I had the same problem but this one is 1/2 volume just to be tolerable.

Ok, not one I tried but I hope this turns out to be bad luck and not a general problem !
You say others have had a similar problem ?
from a electronics point of view an impedance miss match speaker/amp would generally damage the amp before the speaker, speakers normally let You know if You are "over driving" them a good while before they burn out
I highly doubt the speaker loss is a general problem. But the less-than-stellar sound seems to be a general problem, and I am wondering if they could be related.
If I had the time I would dig into the builds myself to see how the sound settings are handled n such.
I just put XAndroid 2.2 (Froyo) on my Tilt2 and got it working - I always use the speaker phone when making calls... was very exited to see that it works - until I realized that when the speaker is on in a call - I can hear them - but they cannot hear me. If I turn off the speaker - we can talk again - but for some reason - speaker for me is mute for them... not sure where to post this as a possible bug.
I used this package: XDANDROID.2.2.1.AOSP.FRX03.21.11.10.FULL_PACKAGE
on an AT&T Tilt2 (Rhodium) running Windows mobile, I believe 6.5.
thanks for your patience - this is a big place - and it hard to find my way around.
updated my zimage and the speaker now works
thank you to everyone!

[Q] Low in call volume

Please help. I am running XBROM and everything is perfect except for low in call volume. I have looked for a tweak but am not sure how to fix this. I am new to all this. I KNOW IT IS NOT MAX IN CALL UI, also the media app does not fix this, it states that in the description of the up. So please help
If it's not this one :
•Q - How do i increase the in call volume, its set to max (10) but is still too quiet?
•A - Change this reg key : HKCU/ControlPanel/Volume/MaxinCallUIVolume from 10 to 15 (15 is loud enough for me, be careful going much higher)
Click to collapse
Then what could it be ?
UI only changes the amount of numbers in increases. So instead of max loudness being 10 it increases it to 15 but the 15 is the same loudness as 10.

You can use sound enhancer and media volume settings, avail from the htc hub, and market apps
Hmm i got the same problemen changed that key but didnt work.
Yea, it is way too low. Sometimes have to put calls on speakerphone to hear. Tried the fix given, but like others, it didn't make it any louder.
Media volume app does not increase in call volume either. Is there a registry tweak or not?
Agree definately too low ...
Same problem here...
I wish I knew how to fix this, I would. Maybe some of the roms are louder? I am running XB and moonlight wasn't any better. I might switch to android for this and tethering.

[Q] Need a few fix's for Volume & Camera

I'm running HD2O's new NODO rom.
Still havent been able to find a fix for the low volume out of the headphones listening to music, and very low volume for speakerphone. The camera also doesnt autofocus. Any 1 figure out a way to fix this yet? The last rom i was using before nodo, speaker volume was crazy loud. I would rather it be loud than very quiet. Also with WPbench, it shows that it's using 16 bit color instead of 32. Theres banding in the color transitions. Any fix for this, or is the HD2 screen just not up to par?

Yes it is newer and supposedly better. I'm downloading it as I write this.

Im going to see how ppcboy's rom is. his last one was awsome. nothing bad at all to sday about his previous build. Please let me know what you think of yuki's new rom. I dont have my usb cord to flash it tonight anyway.
You can possibly fix the volume by changing the general volume attenuation in HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\MaxdBAtten. Default (original DFT) value for this key is 45, it's often set higher in custom roms to reduce the volume. Setting it again to a lower value will make the device (headphones + speaker) louder. I wouldn't go below 45 though, thats already pretty deafening
There is no fix for the camera other than installing a different camera software alltogether, AKAIK
BTW, both topics are pretty extensively discussed on the forum already
Ive tryed the maxbatt edit. Doesnt have any effect, except for adding more bars to volume, for a more acute volume adjustment. Doesnt actually make it louder or softer. Ive been looking in the other forums for answers for a few weeks now, and no 1 has come up with a legit answer, except reflash another rom. Ill have to look into another camera software for WP7, and the color banding issue is still no fix in site?
Ok. So I tryed out Yuki's newest rom. It's pretty dope. The camera is nice, but volume still seems low on speakerphone/external speaker. Ring volume is plenty loud though. Awsome original WP7 boot screen, and what not. Didn't really care for the green button coded to blutooth/media player. Right now I'm running elMInStER blackSideSeven ROM. Love everything about it except for the no camera fix. If this rom had yuki's camera he has in his, it would have been perfect. The green hardware button is hard coded as the green phone button, and doubles as the camera after you open it. Volume seems a bit louder on that rom also.
Hey can you tell me how much the battery drain is on the blackSideSeven ROM?
So far, it's been decent. Had the phone on since 7AM unplugged, havent used it much, but im still @ around 80% @ 2PM
