[Q] Camera won't save an working picture - EVO Shift 4G General

Hi,
So i have a rooted htc evo shift and the deal is whenever i take a picture i can go to my gallery and the picture will be there. However, in about 5 minutes or so, the picture no longer shows and instead there is a grey backround with a mountain , an exclamation point, and a sun image. This started happening randomly (or can't remember any instance where i changed something and then this happened...). Before i took pictures and they would save, and i still have some of those pictures, but not all as some of them changed to mountain exclamation things.
Also when i move these gray mountain files to my computer or use root explorer, the pictures don't load either.
Any ideas on what i can do to fix this?
could it be my sd card? (I did switch to a new one off ebay (bad idea), but I didn't start having the problem until maybe around 2-3 weeks after the switch)
Any way i can get back my old photos that have the gray mountain thingy?
Please help,
Thank you

Just an update on this. I removed some music to open up some memory to make it so i had more than 8gb free (possibly my card was only like 8gb even though marked 16, damn ebay. I also used the sd card program checker thing from another forum on xda and it said it had probelms)
So if u have this problem, it is probably sd related.
So anyways, now my pictures are storing again, but is there anything i can do to get my other pictures back? They were important/school related.

Just realized files have gone missing/deleted from the external card

I just came across this realization last night, and it is very, very disconcerting - to say the least.
I have had my EVO since day one launch - no problems with it. I am not rooted, and have the latest OTA update applied.
I actually have the two Transformers moves from the HD2 on my memory card from a friend, as well as a couple more he ripped/formatted for our phones (he now has an EVO as well). The night before last I was bored/tired and stayed up in bed watching parts of both films. One day later (last night) I was out with friends and one of them asked me to show another how good the video looks on our phones. I fired up Meridian (what I always use to watch movies on the EVO) and was shocked to find the two TF films were nowhere to be found. What's more, the listing of "VIDEO00__" files from the EVO camcorder seemed suspiciously short - like some of those were missing, too. Now, I know that at least the TF films were on there the night before.
I got home, removed the card from the phone and fired it up on my laptop. I used two file recovery programs: Recuva and Pandora Recovery (both free) to analyze the card. I found the Transformers files as if they'd been deleted. I also found a whole host of other files that have been deleted. The vast majority of them seemed to be media of some sort, from photos to Video files (taken with the phone). Since most of the media produced from the phone are "IMAG00__.jpg" or "VIDEO00__.3gp" and I DO manually delete some of them time to time, it was hard to tell what was intentionally deleted and what wasn't. HOWEVER, there were definitely media files I would NOT have deleted, like pictures from my Wallpapers folders, photos from other folders I manually renamed based on the content, etc.
I don't know how long this has been going on - I know that the file recovery program Recuva tell you what file overwrote another. Using that, I could see that a movie I would not have deleted (Iron Man) was overwritten with a photo taken with the phone that, based on the file number, was taken on or about July 4th. Flipping through my video gallery, I am certain I am missing many of those, too, as videos from a certain event (family gathering) that I know I had a handful of files for now only have one.
I've had the phone now for basically a month and a half - and while I am normally good about backing up here and there I have neglected to do so often with my EVO as I've been very busy (getting married in about a month) and I didn't think I'd need to have a backup short of physically losing the phone (have never lost a phone). This realization scares the heck out of me, and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced it or has any ideas about it. Until last night when I happened to be looking for a specific file(s) I used the night before, I didn't have any idea this was happening.
If it helps, in between the night when I watched the movies that later went missing and the night I realized they were gone I connected my EVO to the computer via USB to transfer a file and charge it. I realized recently whenever I connected the phone the computer would automatically read/access the card without me ever having to choose the option from the pull down menu. I thought that maybe that kind of activity could be the root cause of missing files (you know how flash drives don't like to be fiddled with while reading/writing). I did some searching before starting this post and found out that behavior is caused by a setting in DoubleTwist which I have since changed. Still, I have a hard time believing that's the root cause of files which just seem to be deleted without me ever doing it.
Any thoughts or ideas? Any way you members can check to see if you seem to be missing any media (or other) files?
Sounds like phone corrupted card. Sorry, you're sol. There's another couple of posts relating to this subject and a possible remedy for future occurrences with this problem. Either look for post with subject of corrupt card or files disappear. It's in the same section as this one, you might have to look through a few pages before you see them. Good luck.

It all makes sense now, Optimus Prime destroyed the data when he found out you ripped them.
No doubt

For a freebee, try virtualrecorder. Cool features. Sounds excellent.

Really? I'll look for them but I would have thought a corrupt card would manifest in some other way - like not functioning when you try to record or save something, not systematically deleting files. Strange.

I've only used my voice recorder a few times. After reading this, maybe I won't anymore.
I just had to chime in that this very thing happened to me and with the same movies that i got from the files of the hd2.
All i know is that i had a gig or so left on my card and then the next day i had over 6 left.
The good thing is i had the card and all its content backed up on the wifes computer.

Update:
I used that recuva you recommended and it worked! Got all my pics back. I've been wondering what on earth caused it to be lost in the first place because I haven't installed anything lately. I am rooted and I noticed alot of titanium backup files were also gone. Sprite backup files were gone. A mystery indeed. I've learned my lesson though. Backup. More. Frequently.

Lost photos

Hi all.
Today I noticed that in last 2 days I had lost around 300 photos from the SD card. I had around 600 photos on Thursday, more than half are gone (randomly, couldn't see a pattern for leftover photos). On Friday I upgraded the phone to .6 from .3, it wiped out the phone but was not supposed to delete anything from SD card. My music and video files seem to be not affected, ebooks are also untouched. SD card itself seems to be working fine, no corrupted files, no unusual files/folders on it. I don't think it was the upgrade but have no idea what could have happened. Before the upgrade I had to install HTC sync, to get the driver. Does it do something by default? Does it sync/remove any files?
We just came back from vacation. Most of the pictures were taken on my camera, but I had good amount of shots on the phone. It's my fault for not coping everything before the update but I wanted to know if you had seen anything like that.
My only hope is to check the work computer that I used for upgrade, but I don't think sync would move files without any notice.
This may not be what happened to you but i did have a friend that did the upgrade OTA, there wasnt enough space on his SD card for the OTA file, plus i guess it also needs extra space to swap files. Therefore, in his situation files on the sd were randomly overwritten. Anyway this im getting 3rd party from him so it might not apply to you but thought id toss it out there.

Did the pics get moved to LOST.DIR? Sometimes when you plug your phone into a computer and don't eject or unmount the card, some files get corrupted and moved there. It sucks cuz it removes the extension, and changes the file name to a number, but sometimes you can just add the jpg extensions and save the pics. It's worth a try.

Yep. Same thing happened to me. I wasn't doing any kind of upgrade or anything. Still had 4+ Gigs free on my SDcard. Opened up the gallery and it only had 10 pictures in it. 90something pics just gone. I checked LOST.DIR and there is one big file in there around 140MB. Can't find a way to extract it.
Luckily, I had a backup on my laptop that was only a couple of days old so I got most of my pics back, but still annoying.
LOST.DIR has one small file.
I didn't think about not enough space on SD. I had around 300Mb when started the update, I didn't have to copy anything to the card, it was ran from the computer.
My lesson (again and again): there is not enough backup.
Thanks for replies!

Media vanished!

I just noticed that all the media (pictures, videos, etc.) I had saved to the internal storage are all missing now. Just out of the blue, up and disappeared. Has anyone else experienced this? I even checked the available memory to see if the space was free'd up. But, it just shows my whole memory being available. :-/

On e day when I unlocked it, a whole bunch of my apps were unistalled. it was wierd...
Come to mention it, Samurai Vengence II was uninstalled. I didn't even think to check which other apps were possibly missing.

I'm starting to think this is due to some sort of virus. Now pictures taken don't even save to the internal or external storage card. After restarting the phone applications which were just installed are missing. This is really frustrating!

Lost media
I have noticed I loose the media every time I sync with Motorola media Link. It is still in the phone but you have to go into the file explore and pull it up some reason it disconnects, once you find it it will be available from the camera app. OR what ever media you are looking for. It also screwed up my Ringtones now it plays random children bible verse every time some on calls me. Not a virus but it grabs things off your PC and place them in there and then because it can't find the media you setup "ringtone" it just plays random stuff. I did that Sunday school program 5 years ago forgot it was on my PC but media link found it and installed it on phone. Think how that sounds when you are in a business meeting a scripture starts playing when your boss is talking.
Here's the deal, evertime I take new photos they save to the storage, but if I turn the phone off and restart they are missing all over again.

mine vanished after a motorla sync thingy too.
Ok, called at&t they had me format my internal storage card. Thought that would help but pictures and media still delete whenever I turn off the phone. Very frustrated! Now I know that my internal storage is automatically re-formatting whenever it reboots!

are you rooted? or attempted to?
Yes, I'm rooted. Do you think this could be the problem
Sent from Atrix using xda app.
perhaps.. haven't had my media vanished.. but i'm leaning more towards the motorolla sync thing causing it..
it happens when you root and don't take out your Sd card.
Happened to me once, so to confirm it was the root i unrooted and rooted again a few times and sure enough the SD card gets unmounted and all the files get deleted.
Probably the same case for you.. if you tried to root.

[Q] Restore deleted photos, strange problem

Hi there, I really need your help!
Whilst setting up an owncloud server and messing with the app on my phone it had somehow created a duplicate camera folder. Now instead of looking in that folder to check photos (they both said they had the same number in) I just took another picture, checked what folder went up in value and deleted the other, STUPIDLY!
So as you can guess, 90% of my photos and vids were in the folder I deleted. I've tried all ways to get the nexus 4 mounted as a drive but to no avail. I used a piece of software called Dr.Fone and it did actually see all the missing photos but upon restoring them most were screwed when you actually wanted to open them (thumbnails were fine) or the resolution/file size was not the same as the original.
Now, if I browse my phone and go to my camera folder I can see EVERY file in there, 10GB worth and all the right file sizes etc. My phone says I have 12gb free space so something is obviously up. I can't seem to copy these over or view them either. Again if I got in to the photos app I can see 95% of the thumbnails fine but they just won't open.
Does anyone have any ideas if or how I can get these photos back as there are lots of my young daughter on there including her 1st birthday party
Quite ironic really that it was the setting up of the backup solution for ours phone that led to this!!!!!!
TIA
Do not take anymore pictures or add anymore files to the disk or you will further corrupt it and overwrite the old ones.

[Q] Photos have been corrupted somehow?

First post so, sorry if this is in the wrong section or doesnt have the right flair or whatnot mods feel free to move this/edit if need be.
So onto the problem. Heres the situation I was taking a lot of photos (possibly at the time 200+) and I was telling the phone to put them on my extSD card. The SD card is the officially branded Samsung 64gb version. So when I was finished taking all these photos I went back only to realize that about 15 were showing up normal in the Gallery. The others has that weird symbol with the crack/lightning bolt through it. Weirdly enough even though the images don't load the thumbnails do, on some of them. And the ones that I have gotten to load are extremely blurry and not very hi res.
Some things that I should probably write here to help narrow down a solution. I am running the default Android 4.4.2, the phone didnt get too hot since it was out most of the time. I had it turned up to the highest resolution 5312x2988. I'm currently on vacation so I didnt have a carrier, or connection to the internet at any time. The photos are also taking up the amount of space they normally would so I have no idea whats really happening.
I have tried opening it in windows directly and to my surprise a few of the thumbnails did load but when I went to click on them windows photo viewer or whatever said it couldnt open them. I tired then opening the photos via IE but that didnt work either. I'm just wondering if theres any way to get them back or to see whats wrong with the card. If you need any clarification what so ever please let me know. Thanks a bunch!
I have the same issue
