saw that. phoned in. still not taking my preorder.

That;s quite cheap compared to what we have here in europe. You always get lucky
How much a month would it cost with a 3 year contract?

You can make the preorder online, check on rogers website, and on the search bar put xperia play, they are taking pre orders until May 1st, you can choose either color and the plan, always with 3 years contract, they dont allow off contract preorders.

What I'm dying to know is if the Rogers Xperia Play will have an unlocked bootloader.

SE is in talks with the carriers to make that happend. Could be why Rogers and Verizon is taking longer to get their phones out. I always wondered why Verizon's phone comes with stock gingerbread instead of sony's skinned version.

I can't find this anywhere but I could have sworn SE was holding an event tomorrow.
Does anyone have a link?

Confirmed – Rogers launching Xperia Play and arc on April 28th!!!!

Here's a pic someone took of the home screen of the xperia play at the canada launch party. OMG! STOCK GINGERBREAD!
http://twitpic.com/4kizhu

now we have that info, i just need to figure out how to get the phone from rogers without going to canada

Vancouver BC is about 6 hours drive from where I live. Planning to make a mini weekender vacation trip if Verizon doesn't pipe up before the 28th...

The cheapest plan is around 55$.
200 minutes
Evenings (from 6pm) and weekends unlimited local calling
500 Mb of data (you can add 5$ for another 500 mb)
There's other options/extra available such as caller id, voicemail for a fee.

Without a contract you have to pay 500 euro's or more here (725 USD).

Also any news on the Bootloader?
What about Vanilla android? I saw the image a few posts back but it seems like a photoshop fail.

Here's a video of both the arc and play at the rogers launch party. As you can see it comes with the Sony's skinned version of gingerbread.

Its locked.
MarlowXim said:
Was there at the launch the SE employee who was streaming Asphalt on the TV mentioned it was locked.
What I thought of the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12923446&postcount=49
Software wise:
It has a skinned version of 2.3. I think it does have a custom launcher as well. All I remember it was all menus were light blue. (apologies we were downing to many drinks at the bar, electronics are far more interesting under the influence)
The unit I was using didn't have a properly working game launcher. When you pop the gamepad wasn't working, such that whatever you selected crashed back to home. Had to launch Asphalt from homescreen.
Didn't benchmark it to see if performance improved, since CES but the UI seemed pretty smooth. Both camera's worked infact you could stream via MHL to HDMI and play it on a big screen TV.
Thats all the info I can recall.. we were busy with the Arc benchmarking and whatnot and seeing how it compares to 2.3 galaxy s.
Didn't know any other XDA dev/users that were invited. We need to flash hand signals or something.

Just saw the video I'm in there for a couple seconds.

Double Post. Mod Remove

Wonder if the Xperia Play Rogers edition is SIM/Network locked. I'm betting probably, so if someone from the US bought one for the full non-contract price we'd still have to get the SIM unlock to be able to use it in the states.
And would they even sell the phone contract free to someone that is not already a Rogers customer?
If any Canadians on here could check that out, that would be killer... I could stay with AT&T instead of having to bail to get this on Verizon.
This info might help other Canadians too. Isn't Fido another GSM network up there?

It is locked for sure
There is a off contract price 499 I believe
Unlock should not be hard, and I guess u can just carry it around like a pap go when you didn't unlock it

When and where?

Does anybody know when and where you can get this phone when it comes out? I called T-Mobile (I know they're not going to sell it, but was hoping for some information) and they knew even less than I did. Everything I have read said you must purchase if from google. $530 with no contract or $180 with a two year agreement and you only have one plan to pick from. The supposed retail date is January 5th. You would think they would have done some sort of advertising or at least have something come up on a Google search.
9AM on the 5th @ google.com/phone is the rumor.

Google is in Mountain View, CA. South of San Francisco. Still in the same time zone as Seattle.
The press conference starts at 10 am, so who really knows. How likely are they to open up sales 1 hour before the conference starts? Actually, I would open up sales today if I was google, and let everyone order but the shipments don't arrive until 10AM the day of the conference.

We have root!!!!!
Stericson and PaulOBrien have successfully rooted the Nexus. Even with the price, this even more of a must buy for me now! http://twitgoo.com/aqr00
I'm more interested in the business model for the N1 in this side of the pond.
How much would it cost in Europe?Who will be selling it?Google or HTC? Which carriers would have it for sale?
So far there aren't any news/leaks/rumors regarding the n1 in Europe, so I guess only at 05/01/2010 we will have the full details.
Wow, didn't take long to get it rooted huh? Instant buy for me. Can't wait for that Android 2.1, AMOLED, 5.0 MP w/Flash, 3.7" screen, and 1GHz Snapdragon Processor. Just can't wait!
it will also be possible to buy it at google.com/phone and ship it to europe. Guys at engadget.com have the full terms of sale wich say that this will be possible. Only thing is you will have to pay taxes and the shipping ... but I don't care bout that, just wanna have that phone ;-)
has anyone read the terms and conditions, it says phone might be 430. hope thats true not the 530 thats a little high

I'd also like to know about European release. Hopefully it will be released with HTC Branding (hey I like to rep HTC )
I don't think the rumours of the webpage are true tbh. Although strangely in the terms they make you agree that you understand the phone is made by HTC and not Google =/
After the press conference details, this will be the hottest device on the market! A must have!!
guys, yall gotta check this out!!!! http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/30/nexus-one-trounces-3d-benchmark-gets-caught-in-high-res-photosh/
oh damn, they removed the 10 min video already!
Nexus One Group on XDA already!!!
Whats all the talk about $29 data SIM about? I wish Google would put some more information out there. I am really looking forward to grabbing one while they're hot.
If it gets released in europe (or ships from usa without tax) i'll sell my iphone and get it asap.

The search for a sim free LT15a (UMTS 850)....

There seems to be quite a few people wanting an Arc to suit AT&T, Telstra, Rogers, etc.
I have posted a message here:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...its-the-stores/comment-page-1/#comment-149670
And Rikard replied saying he will try to find out what is available for us.
If any one has any info about availability of the LT15a, please post it here.
Edit:
Late April for Rogers: http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/03/31/r...and-arc-launching-late-april-99-99-on-3-year/
I did add another request to make sure he sees the demand. Hopefully he gets some answers.
I don't like creating new post while there are some existing. Rogers will have the ARC out by end of this month (maximum in 26 days) has anyone else in the world getting arc working on 850? Brazil?
People with Rogers, have they release any price without contract yet?
Thanks
I found this page, where they say they have an HSDPA 850/1900/2100/800

Is it a mistake?.

and I assume that you have read the description too:
Quick Overview
The specifications suggest that Cliaro (possibly Xperia X12) will have TI OMAP4 1.5GHz processor, Android 2.2 (Froyo) and a 4-inch AMOLED 1080×720 resolution screen. The 10mm thick Xperia X12 is also expected to sport a 12 megapixel camera.

I called one of these re-seller which have no clue whatsoever about the arc. He said that this is what SE website stating and they have all the HSDPA band included in one phone and after I insisted, he went actually and test the phone with this sim-card and convinced that it does not have the 850 band.

Is there any generic LT15a? Telstra doesn't get one since they gave it to orange and optus
Rogers is the only one we all know is getting it but what about other countries in america?
Waiting may be dangerous for me
Rogers is releasing it between 14-21st of April ie what most sources and Rogers said

@ least its nice that you guys don't have to deal with ATT. I think their wireless department is completely dead.
I thought this is the only place I can share my pain (reminding me when I was waiting for my X10a) when it comes to gadgets I am like a 2 years old baby screaming.
Checking everyday for a sign of LT15a on ebay or anywhere else but no sign and more killer feeling. Am I the only one in pain?

There was a second price leak from Rogers showing the off contract price for 549 CA Dollar.
But I am assuming that lots of people get them and sell them on eBay. Its like taking forever now.
Sony Ericsson in the USA sucks in releasing information and services.

I am too even though the hardware specs on Arc don't get me too excited, I just want a change from X10a. I almost used X10 for a year. I wanted to give Galaxy S2 a chance but even that is pushed further and the wait is killing me.

Yes the hardware was important once for me when I got my HD2 as soon as it came out but then design was more important and hardware won't play a big difference for me since I am more for the design and how the phone feels. To me ARC specs are reasonably good for what it is.
I am also going from X10a and arc should be a good replacement. Galaxy S2 is pushed back to May or June?
Just called Rogers to see what it's going to cost to do an early upgrade from my X10a. They don't have it in the system yet so they couldn't give me a price :-( Will try later on.
Not sure if I should stick with branded Rogers to get retain that awesome warranty they have or if I should screw the warranty and go with a unbranded version. The warranty is important because I run & bike with my X10a (since I found a great fitness app) so I think it's just a matter of time before I kill it.

One thing that I am not sure is when you buy it from Rogers buy off contract would that be unbranded or not(I assume not) but unless you buy lt15a from Rogers I don't know anywhere else selling them at this moment.
This was the one last leaked out on April 4th HERE about pricing.
I feel your pain too Nimche.
I've tried contacting se to no avail. You wouldn't think they would make it so difficult to buy their products. No info from se at all.

Well, I just chatted with SE rep in the US and no news. They keep saying availabliity in some markets and I can't find any answer what market are they talking about. I should go find a friend in Canada to get me one as soon as it is out.
I checked here on Firmware roll-outs and it pretty much like LT15i except lt15a had one sooner than (i)

Hope to see some lights soon or find a contact @ SE with some answers.

Good Luck everyone.

Any dependable online store to buy Arc from ?

Righto, people here are ****ing incompetent when it comes to recieving some of new stuff immediately, so I guess I want to order online and save myself the trouble.
Tried Amazon.de, they don't ship to Croatia
Gummobile.com (where I got mine) does reasonable international shipping I believe. Cheapest price around in the UK as well.
Got mine from expansys. Think they will o intl shipping
I'm trying to get this phone in the US that has ATT freqs. All the ones I've seen are Lt15i version with 2100/1900. Anyone know where I could get the Lt15a unlocked version online. I don't want to go through the ATT on this, plus who knows when they'll get it.

I've only used Nokia/SE unlocked phones so excuse my ignorance. If I bought a Arc from Rogers. ATT still wouldn't be able to recognize my IMEI would they? I don't want them to throw me in a PDA plan or anything.

With Xperia X10 I did the same thing. ATT didn't have it at first and I was OK but once they start carrying it they will automatically charge you for it. They have the system to recognize your phone when they are selling the same phone (my x10 was unbranded and unlocked but still recognized in their system). Till this day, I have not heard any news from ATT releasing it but eventually someone will and better that not to be ATT

The VAT price you pay for them ( 20% ), my country has 23% - will I need to just add extra 3% on top of the already paid 20%, or will I need to pay double tax fee ?
Oh and.. if my credit card account shows Euros as balance, can I just directly pay with that and they'll automatically sort euros into british pounds, or will I need to swap currency on my account into british pounds altogether ?
Ow and, do they accept Visa electron ? ( expansys )
Seems gummobile doesn't as it ain't listed
Did you try GUMMobile on ebay?
HERE
Nah, they only accept payment by paypal there, afaik.
Apparently expansys has outlet in Slovenia that delivers to my country, but they only accept bank-to-bank account transfer, and on top of it I might get slapped in the face by having to pay another VAT when I go pick up the device ( EU VAT is 20% afaik, and Croatia VAT is 23%, it'd suck so bad to have to pay VAT again instead of just adding extra 3% on top of what I already paid ).
Dunno, I'm torn apart. Why does this country suck so bad when it comes to new stuff

I totally feel your pain... The country I live in sucks just as much.
I'm thinking about buying the Arc from clove.co.uk. Heard good things about them. Wouldn't have to pay the UK VAT but then when I pick it up here, probably gonna have to add 34%
Damn you government, for taking my money!!!
At the risk of sounding like an agent of theirs because I live in the same country, I'd like to recommend these guys:
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Brand-New-Se...ile_Phones&hash=item1c1ac8cfb7#ht_2118wt_1139
At the time of writing this, they still have a feedback rating of 100%, and I'm not surprised - their service seems to be pretty good. I've gotten a couple of phones from them and they both arrived sealed and untouched in the box.
I see prices are much lower than what some of the European sellers are offering, too. Currently SGD750, which is, what, USD590?
Still, this is only a recommendation. YMMV.

USA - May 24 Announcement, potentially all carriers!!!!!

May 24, New York City
androidcentral.com
almost exactly 11 months after this
intomobile.com
I am sensing SUNDAY June 12th AT&T release of Samsung Galaxy Attain (almost 11 months after the Captivate)!!!
How long was it from when they made the announcement last year did the Galaxy S actually go on sale on AT&T?
Here you go, last years dates I posted earlier
kreoXDA said:
Do you guys remember how the first Galaxy was introduced on the 4 carriers last year?
Let me remind you
June 4th - first release in Asia
June 29th - launch party in New York City where it was first announced that 4 models were coming to 4 carriers, with no dates. (+25 days)
Later on, gradually, release dates were being announced about 1-3 weeks prior to a particular release. The phone was released as follows:
T-Mob - July 15th (+41 days)
AT&T - July 18th (+44 days)
Sprint, keyboarded CDMA version - August 30th (+87 days)
Verizon, CDMA version - September 9th (+97 days)
We learned that SGS1 was even coming to the United States 3.5 weeks after the phone was released in Asia.
The quickest provider T-Mob got it almost 6 weeks after the first country.
The slowest provider VZW - 3 months after.
So give this some time, sit back, relax, wait for bug reports from the UK beta testers , and enjoy your fixed (or maimed) version in a few short weeks.
peace

Note the US Launch party last year was 25 days after first international release, and this event is around 25 days after Korea/UK release
lol after dealing with the ATT Craptivate for a year I'll gladly "beta test" the vanilla samsung GS2
good luck with your carrier updates. I'm done purchasing US phones "variants" that force you to use reorient kernels for the Roms.
Thanks for the release date info. Looks like they're following a similar schedule... just bumped ahead 1 month from last year =)
Still, as much as I'd like to wait for a US variant... I don't really want to have to sign a contract to get one, nor do I want to put up with the bloatware and filth they put on the phone. Rooting and flashing ROMs on my T-mobile spec Galaxy S was annoying, having to ODIN back to certain firmwares before being able to flash a new ROM.
And the one question that I'm still wondering... will the US be getting a tegra version? That would suck =(

i've been off contract since Dec. i had originally settled on getting the Infuse when it was first announced but instantly fell in love with the SGS2 and decided to wait. but... i need a new phone NOW. actually i needed a new one 2 months ago but decided to hold strong for the SGS2... but it's come to a point where my current phone is damn near unusable, so i think i'm going to get the infuse when it launches and roll the dice on the sgs2 coming out before the remorse period ends. or failing that just give it back and wait some more for the sgs2 to release.
I think the best option for some of us is to buy the carrier branded version on contract, sell it, and use that money to get the vanilla SGS 2. After dealing with all the Captivate issues as well I'm never buying a carrier branded Android ever again.

not to mention the Craptivate looks ugly as hell and nothing like a SGS
If i was on att there would be no doubt id go with international like you said no waiting for carrier update, no carrier branding and missing hardware features.
I really wish carriers kept the design the same as the international it would be so much easier to update and to port roms

That's one point where you're crazy. The Captivate is the nicest Galaxy S and has a lot less plastic than any other one. Everyone has told me they liked the Captivate over the other Galaxy S variants. I've been very happy with the Captivate, but not as happy about the AT&T branding and waiting for their crap.
I would much rather spend the money and buy the phone unlocked than buy it from ATT.

If i was on att there would be no doubt id go with international like you said no waiting for carrier update, no carrier branding and missing hardware features.

Only issue I see with this is warranty support. If Samsung US would support a UK model fine, but if it requires international shipping that would give me pause.
What if the US version has NFC? Would that change your mind?
Yes, NFC is useless right now, but wouldn't that at least lower your resell value of the UK version whenever one else in your area has NFC?

Given the fact (I hope) all 4 major carriers are getting it, and AT&T, VZW and T-Mob are in an NFC payment system alliance , the chances of US getting NFC versions are not extremely low

I don't see NFC being that important to me right away. I am guessing by the time it becomes important to me, I will already be looking at another phone.
Also, even though the UK might not be getting the NFC version, you probably will still be able to buy a NFC version unlocked from another country.
Hate to say it... but until the iPhone gets NFC it's not worth worrying about.
Devices still need to be upgraded in stores, airlines, and what not to accept NFC no? The above poster is probably correct, the phones are going to need to be widely available before companies spend the money to upgrade their equipment.

Why, because the iPhone has the market share lead and will dictate what the market will do? No, that's Android.

Seems like getting Nexus 6 from Tmobile will be faster than if you pre-order it?

" As of 11am EST, pre-orders have yet to begin. It'll be available in stores on November 12th according to a T-Mo press release, as well."
And sourcing from all the people that pre-order it will "leave warehouse on 21st", but T-Mo will get it in store 12th?!
This doesn't make any sense.
I honestly believe that google is purposely creating this hype, so all the media will be talking about it...well to get more people to talk about Nexus 6. Smart move, Google.

Of course they are. Just like Apple does with the iPhone and Sony does with their consoles. Harder to get = higher demand. People always want what they can't have. Simple logic. :good:
Yup. I'll be going to the T-mobile store on November 12 in the AM hoping they have some in stock
I have a feeling that date is no longer accurate. But I hope I'm wrong.
Hard to say? Google could have had a more than we think made but have a certain ammount set aside for each carrier?

Not my reply but somebody asked them

Apparently they are only getting the Blue version.
I've been with T-Mo for a year now and with the exception of the iPhone 6 pre-orders have been arriving either the day of launch or a day early on every major device since I joined up. Nexus demand isn't going to be anywhere near iPhone demand, so I am guessing that it will be the same here.

I've been getting mixed stories on this. Let's just hope they get the white.
Does anyone know if the T-Mobile version will be any different than the one from Google?

If they do then I'll be walking in and out with a 64gb white.
Some questions:
Will the T-Mobile version will be locked down to T-Mobile only? Meaning the resale value is going to tank?
Will it have any T-Mobile branding on the front and/or back?
Will the T-Mobile version be the only one capable of Wi-Fi calling AKA Wi-Fi Unleashed?
Can it be bought outright, or does it require a contract? I currently have the T-Mobile/Walmart $30 plan, and I'd like to stay on that if possible.

T-Mobile will be unlocked. The issue will be having the CDMA carriers adding the IMEI to their system. Using on At&t will not be a problem.
No T-Mobile branding
No idea on that one
If trying to buy our right make sure you go to a Corporate store. Retailers will most likely deny the sale of it without service. They will most likely tell you they don't have any.
Anyone know what time the online orders for the 64 will go live?

WiFi calling is actually a Lolipop feature, so theoretically all carrier versions will support it. That doesn't mean they will actually work when you try to use it, though - since VZT and ATT have not rolled it out yet it's doubtful that it will.
Worst case, you can route your calls through Google Voice via hangouts on the other carriers.

Going back & looking at my Nexus 5 preorder I had a ship date of November 22nd & end up receiving it on the 7th. These ship dates might just be placeholders
I hope they change their mind and carry the 64gb in store
