I've verified this on my Focus with Chevron and NoDo.

I have the focus in USA w att. I followed all instructions and was able to get the nodo update, yay.however i can't side load apps. When i launch samsung tools it said to uninstall. It seems to relocked. Prior to installing nodo, I did use Samsung tools and checked prevent relock. I noticed after reseting it relock was unchecked.however noticed it was still unlocked hence the nodo update. I tried to run chevron again no luck. I guess I have to start all over again? Is anyone experiencing relock issues after nodo? Can someone help out bc I did use Samsung tools to try to prevent it from unlocking. Thanks in advance.
Chris
I'm stuck in the same boat. At some point after installing Nodo it relocked and now I'm stuck without being able to sideload. I guess that was the inherent risk of doing this update, anyway.
Did you guys use SamsungTools to prevent re-locking before updating?
I luckily have a dev account so I haven't tried to sideload since updating, but I can always unlock it again anyway.
If I recall (based on previous conversations that the guy who put out Chevron officially stated) Microsoft has closed the loop on the tool and essentially "fixed" the hole in the system. As Nodo rolls we're all kind back to step one... now that the guy that did Chevron has kind of stepped away from supporting it we'll need some smart people to put together a Chevron v2...
Hey all. I am currently an android user looking into trading for a focus.
Problem is, the phone had WP7 chevron run on it and now has the nodo update.
My question is; since MS said no more updating for phones with chevron run on them, can I remove or revert to a non chevron installed state? From what I have read here, nodo "breaks" chevron, does that mean I can install future updates?
I just want to make sure I dont trade for a crippled phone...
I got the Samsung update after the NODO. Mine was Chevron 7 updated for NODO.
Where did you get the Samsung update? How did you apply it?
Also, is there a way to flash the original OEM firmware to get a "stock" phone?
Waiting to see
I used Chevron on my Focus so I could debrand it and used the timing trick to get NoDo myself, so after the MS release, I spent a while poking around online. As near as I can tell, what MS was warning against was the use of the chevron updater tool, not the original unlocker. MS had already said NoDo would basically "fix" the original chevron hack, so, I think they had that covered. If it was just an unlocked phone that got the update naturally through Zune (even if by trickery), it should be within what they expected. But, the updater apparently forced the NoDo update using some other function on the phone, and that seems to be where the worry is coming from.
But, in the end, if you don;t have a Zune backup from before the update (mine didn't successfully keep them, so, no rolling back for me) the only thing any of us can do is wait for either the next release and see what happens, or for someone to figure out how to get a rom. So far, I'm expecting to see the update first, but, you never know.
I am new to WP7 and would hate to get a crippled phone. Thank you both for your info.
I used the chevron ulocker. It ran in a DOS command window. It did the pre NODO, then it did the NODO. A few days later, I connected it to ZUNE and it announced there was a Sansung update. It went fine.
1.Chevron actually will not affect ur update. What MS said was using Chevron Updater MIGHT prevent you from further update, but what actually happened is that people used Chevron Updater still got Samsung Firmware update.
2.Get rid of Chevron unlock, is easy, just do a factory reset.

Pretty much what this guy said. I did the NODO timing update on my debranded Focus. Samsung update wouldn't show up in Zune until I did a Factory Reset.
I have the Samsung Focus and have Unlocked it with Chevron Unlock Tool. I already updated to the latest firmware version, the one with copy and paste and it seems that the Chevron Unlock is still intact as I can still sideload apps.
I want to reset the phone to wipe all my personal info since I'm going to sell the phone, so:
1) would resetting it wipe the Chevron unlock even though I've installed the Samsung tool that prevents relocking?
2) Would I still be able to use the Chevron Unlock with the latest firmware on the Focus? (in case the next buyer wants a Chevron Unlocked phone)
TIA.
If you do the format reset then yes the phone will be relocked. It will be in the same state as it was when it was new in the box.
Chevron is just "Dev" unlocking the phone, allowing code to be installed and run that is NOT signed and vetted etc... for marketplace.
It isnt a true "Jailbreak". All you are doing is installing a cert and then Dev unlocking the device so a reset clears all those settings.
The latest OS upgrade will NOT chevron unlock. You can reset, unlock and then update via the official AT&T updater with zune and it all works and stays unlocked. I have done this to 7390

So you mean since I already updated to the latest firmware, Chevron unlock would no longer work?
You are using the term "Firmware" and I am referring to the NODO update. So if you are at 7390 then no chevron doesnt work.
I did the official AT&T update and was able to use the backup it made to revert to the original OS, chevron unlock then NODO update and am still unlocked.
If you want to make the phone "unlockable" for the next user,
I would use the Zune backup to revert to 7008, if that's still possible, and from there, do the "reset"
This would remove the unlock, but the new owner of the phone could unlock again in this state.
If your backup doesn't restore the phone to 7008, but 7390, there is currently nothing you can do to "reset" the phone and make it unlockable
im currently in 7004 and unlocked my focus and installed samsung tools, i ckeched the Prevent relock and would like to update, will NoDo itself relock my phone or will Zune sync relock? since im using the SamsungTool can i now update to NoDo 7008 then 7390
The steps are located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101344
The only thing I had changed is that I could not use AdvancedConfig.1.2.0.0.beta.xap for whatever reason, I had to download the Samsung Tools which are located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924497&page=12
I suggest getting the updated tool that 4epec4yp posted because it will tell you when you have the registry settings changed to prevent it from re-locking.
Honestly it really is as easy as:
- Flashing the original ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131022)
- Use ChevronWP7 to unlock
- Install Samsung Tools (above) and set to prevent re-lock on update
- Update to NoDo
The hardest part for me was unlocking with ChevronWP7, for me I just had to disconnect my computer from the internet and put my phone in the windows market and that did it for me, not saying it will work for you.

You can update safely. I did the same as you plus unbranding (clear ATT-US) and now on NoDo, unlocked.
You can check if "prevent relock" works by syncing in another computer (fully, not Guest) and then going back to the comp you unlocked to check Re-Lock with Chevron. That's how I tested mine. If you sync to another comp and don't do the steps to "prevent relock" before that, Zune will lock your phone on the new computer sync, and when you check on the original comp with Chevron, you will see "Unlock" instead of "Re-Lock".
For those (like me) looking for the info: you can update your Focus (i917) from 8107 to 8773.98 in Zune and keep your unlock (WindowBreak or XAP-Interop).
I just updated my 2 unlocked Focuses (AT&T & Rogers) through Zune from 8107 to 8773.98 and even if apps are revoked, if you WindowBreak before, it you can restore the interop unlock after installing 8773.98 by running *#9908# in Diagnosis and re-running the unlock (Save).
Update: Just make sure that you do NOT install any Samsung update, if you're offered.
