Recommendation's for ARIA repair's - HTC Aria General

I recently sent my daughters ARIA in for a screen replacement. The repair shop was in Texas and did a good replacement (of the screen) but messed up the phone. Sense we have gotten the phone back the proximity sensor only works in extremely bright light (the repair shop says it was faulty when it came into their shop and that I would have to pay to have it repaired). At times it won't come back on unless the battery is removed. I have been reading that the prox sensor is a somewhat sensitive item with HTC's. It would appear this is a common problem after repair, with many HTC models. Does anybody have steps on how to rectify this problem or does anybody recommend a repair service that is know to be able to fix this issue?

That sucks that they are not taking responsibility for the problem, especially since it is actually a pretty common issue for the proximity sensor to stop working properly after replacing the digitizer. I doubt the sensor itself is damaged. Most likely the problem is that they didn't get everything lined up exactly right when they put the new digitizer on.
If I were you, I'd probably try to force their hand and make them fix it, but if you can't get them to do it without having to pay for it, then instead you might consider disabling the proximity sensor on the phone. A less drastic thing you can do is to set the phone so that the proximity sensor is only used when the phone is held vertically (i.e. up to your ear) and not horizontally (like when you're holding and looking at the screen). This is possible with the CM6/CM7 ROMs but I don't know if it is in the Sense ROMs.
Is your phone rooted? If not, are you willing to root it for this purpose?

Agreed what i did, because of there lack of offering to fix there problem, was put a claim in through paypa.l Paypal then, made them refund my payment. So having them fix it now, is out of the question!

Well yes and no, with the problems involved, I needed to purchase another one for my daughter so I am trying to fix this one to resell it

If I'm not mistaken there was a post up a while back where someone posted the htc authorized repair centers list you could try searching around for that I can't tell you what it would cost but it's worth a try.

Oh, yeah. You can take the digitizer off yourself and probably make sure everything is lined up properly, put it back on, and see if it works. But some people aren't comfortable doing this because it can be pretty tough to not leave fingerprints or dust underneath, etc. You can also just try taking it to another repair center and see if they can do it. It wouldn't require buying any new parts (since you already have a replacement digitizer) so it might not be too expensive to do.
Check some of the other threads in this forum -- I'm pretty sure there are a few that talk about how to remove and replace the digitizer. You might look at those to see if you think it's something you trust yourself to do.

Digitizer Non Responsive

Hey guys.
Owned the phone for a few months now and have started to notice a really odd problem. For a while the screen was being fairly unresponsive to touches and I couldn't figure out why. Taking the screen protector off fixed it temporarily but now the issue is back.
I finally realised that the issue was a black smudge that would appear whenever I pushed too hard on the screen. I'm assuming this registers as a touch on the screen and prevents it from working. Rubbing the stylus over the area usually makes it dissipate and the screen becomes responsive again, but it would come back not long later after general use.
Also there's some fairly odd rainbowing underneath the digitizer that moves around when you press on the screen. It circles around the smudges when they appear.
I know that all sounds fairly vague, but any help on the issue would be great. Is a new digitizer in order or could it be fixed by just dissassembling it? I've tried using a suction cap to make the problem go away, the rainbowing disappears but slowly comes back again. Also I haven't dropped the phone, left it near anything etc, besides the digitizer problem the phone works fine.
Thanks in advance!
(On a side note, I bought the phone off eBay and had to use a serial number locater to determine the region of the phone. Found out it was destined for India when I'm in Australia. Fairly odd, but what are the warranty implications? Is it still covered?)
Same problem here!
I've sent it to HTC for repair, since my Diamond2 has 1 year warranty and I only bought it in May/09. HTC said that screen issues are excluded of the warranty and that I have to pay about €70 for the screen repair, because, they say, the problem is due to misuse - wich I don't think is true.

You have collapsed your layers between lcd and digitizer.
Some folks here use duct tape to repeatedly pull the layers apart and it fixes their issue for a while.
Thought it'd be something along those lines. I'll give the duct tape trick a try, can you point me to some other threads? I tried searching but was probably using the wrong terms.
Also vasco that's complete bollocks. I've kept my phone in its case the whole time I've had it, never put any pressure on it or had it in a rough environment. I'd throw a few customer complaints their way, especially if other people have had the same issue. Nice to know I'm not alone at least.

The issue is being discussed here:

I've already filed a complaint to the comm's regulation office. I'me presently waiting for their response.
had the same issue.. I just replaced the digitizer, it's a bit tricky but certainly possible.. yours is not that old so it should be repaired under warranty if you can have that done (have no clue about your situation there..)
digitizers are cheap on ebay

Here is my thread about this.
I am in the same boat as you - phone was destined for somewhere in Asia, and I am in Australia. I contacted HTC, and they also told me that the problem could be caused by misuse, even though I KNOW it wasn't, as my phone is always in it's case unless being used, never dropped etc. It sucks, but I think I will just replace the digitizer myself.

CDMA Hero Bugs and Manufacturer Defects

I'm starting this thread as a central database for CDMA Hero owners to share defects and bugs in Hardware and Software.
My apologies if this has been addressed else-where.
Found with my Girlfriend's and my "with Google" Heros that we both have a noticeable amount of dust under the screen (glass). I thought this was addressed with rev. 2 of the phone?
Anyone one else with the same issue?
paint on case is VERY easy to chip...
I agree the finish seems a little delicate. I've been using a cheap hard plastic case since I got mine in dec. Helps alot with wear and tear, and isn't too bulky or hard to get out of my pocket.
i agree with the paint issue.
my end button is totally red not silver and red
I had a dust issue with my first (unbranded).
The first thing I did with my replacement (with google) hero was to apply an invisible shield to it. I have not noticed any dust under the screen whatsoever.
Also, although it isn't exactly pretty, I found while applying the invisible shield that it did not cover the gap between screen and button pad. As a quick fix to this I cut a thin piece of invisible shield material that was left over and applied it over the crack/screen protector/button pad protector. Just for some extra protection.
For shocks, I have the phone in the HTC silicone case. My phone has taken a number of falls/skids across the ground and stuff and this combo has protected it completely.
Edit:
Almost forgot, my original also seemed to develop a wear mark on the metal button pad finish. It was as if a part of the layer had rubbed off and tarnished in a circular pattern.
about the dust under the screen...
i contacted htc about before. the person who i emailed replied to me saying that htc has a permanent fix for the problem, so you can send it in and they'll replace/clean the screen and apply some fix to it. catch is, you have to pay for S&H and you'll go without a phone for a bit

I have a ridiculous amount of dust in the lower left hand corner of my screen... so much so that part of the screen isn't visible anymore. Do you think Sprint would just let me exchange it for a new one? Or would I still have to go through HTC?

well i e-mailed htc about this twice. the first time they said that if the dust got bad enough, i could send it to HTC and they'd repair it. they also said this:
I understand how frustrating it can be for dust to collect under the screen of your device. We have recently learned that Sprint has a process in place to resolve this issue. Please contact Sprint for the location of your nearest Sprint Service and Repair facility. They are equipped to clean your device, and in doing so will be able to keep the issue from recurring in the future. I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

That's great to hear! Nice to know it's not like my Mogul was. They just kept giving me broken phones until I bought my hero....
I had heard about the dust problem before, and was glad that I didn't have that problem yet... After reading this thread, I decided to look again.... Now I do have dust in the bottom right
It seems to me that the problem is dust entering between the keypad and the screen, and then getting up underneath of the digitizer which doesn't seem to be against the LCD, which is strange, I think. Most handhelds I've taken apart have the digitizer glued around the edges directly to the LCD. Thank god that HTC and Sprint are actually addressing this problem. If someone does know how and where this seal is applied, I'd love to know. I might be taking mine back before too long, and I always would like to know what they're going to do beforehand.

Seriously you guys should have no problem exchanging that phone in warranty without TEP IF you take it to the shop and they cant resolve your dust issue they will ship you a remanufactured phone.

This is 100% inaccurate. I'm a Sprint tech and there is no process in place for repairing Hero's with dust in the screen. Sure I can take your phone apart and blow the dust out, but it will come back.

At least it isn't near as bad as the Touch Pro. My buddy and I both had one; he still has his... His volume buttons literally fell off, and all of the chrome stripping is held on with scotch tape. The sliding screen has a slight swivel to it. And, thanks to Microsoft, all of his texts are from 1016.
Actually, I'm considering taking my Hero apart and trying to figure out a fix on my own. I think I'll wait just a little longer... just to make sure nothing fails and I can't take it back. Or, is there anywhere I can buy those black stickers for the screw-heads?

Interesting, I loved my Touch Pro, the only flaking or issues with the aesthetics I had were from where it met pavement once...there's also a .cab file your friend can download that will fix the date issue...I'd post a link but I'm not sure of XDA's linking policies to other sites, just google ".cab fix for touch pro sms date," it's one of the first results.
As far as bugs and manufacturer defects with my Hero go, I've had the phone for a little over a month now and haven't anything to report...it does lag a little at times but I've yet to find a rooting process that works for my Hero for whatever reason, it's the newest version with the "with Google" branding. The "one touch root" or whatever it was titled from unlockr didn't work, nor did the one I found on android forums.
I didn't get stuck in a bootloader or anything for either process, it's simply that neither one had any affect; I did follow both process to a "T." I'll get around to trying the tutorial I found on here (XDA) one day when I have time, although I must say, I kind of prefer the hacks and tricks of WinMo at this point.

FP scanner replacement..

My FP scanner stopped working recently...figured it was software related so i went ahead and wiped the stats..restarted, installed new custom rom...no cigar.
I have dropped my phone in water so im assuming its water damage.
Anyone got any ideas where i can get a replacement and get it fixed?
Thanks!

If water has affected the hardware, i doubt that you can ever fix this problem( if i were you, i would dismantle the phone and try and clean-and completely dry any water off it- the FP scanner and see if it works....but i would not advise you to do such a thing if you are not comfortable with it).
If, however it's a software issue, Flashing a new ROM would have fixed this problem.
The good news here though is that you can use the traditional lock, which many Atrix users prefer over the FP scanner.
another option is too look for a bricked phone or one with a cracked screen for parts to replace the FP scanner.
funny thing about water damage....i dropped it in may...literally 3 months ago..and now its causing an issue...guess i have to live with no FP scanner..

you might not need both, but to be safe spend the extra $5. I haven't used the one I bought since it appears to be working fine.
This phone is very easy to torn apart.
yeah its actually one of the easiest out there

you won't have to go beyond step 6 for this repair.
There is an onlilne outfit that supplies replacement parts for the Atrix, but doing so is not for the faint of heart.. The site is located at www.repairsuniverse.com
I considered going through them to replace my glass when it lost a battle with gravity and a concrete slab, and noticed at the time, they have just about any part that you could need, including the board that contains the FP scanner.

I bought it before I saw your post. You are right. The cover actually rests underneath the FP scanner itself.
In stead of buying the entire scanner, what I did was super glue the sticker back down. It's not exactly pretty, but the scanner still works flawlessly.

it gets into the fastboot....but no display...i didnt tried it...but i dont think it will fix it...and if it doesnt fixes then ill loose the recovery...so didnt do that...
I dont think that factory resetting and flashing stock rom will do...coz all that happens in recovery and i can see any think that just a white screen...sometimes faint....must be a display or a motherboard problem....
but when it comes to display it is not broken or got damaged....might be motherboard must be burnt...but if so then why will the cell boot up without issues...
are there any chances of screen damaging due to heat...?coz it has got heated and i got this problem...
And all functions are working even calls sms wifi....everything w/o issue...just no display..
Should think on it..
Can any1 detect where the problem is so that I can fix it...
If you can't buy a new screen assembly to troubleshoot whether that's a possible issue then the only thing I can think of is wiping the phone and flashing the google factory image.
Are you able to download this and flash it through the command line using fastboot?

Hey sturdy I hope your phone carries an Indian warranty !! If yes the best way is to flash back the factory image and get it to your nearest lg centre !!
If u are not covered under warranty lg guys charge around 4.8 k INR for front screen with digitalizer !! You get a screen replacement on eBay for around 2.5 k !! If its the motherboard it can burn a dent in your pocket !!

i dont have warranty....ok i need to detect the problem...so that i can fix it....You can read the previous posts i have written....
Anywayz firsstly i opened up my monster...cleaned the thermal paste..re-applied it....Ok nothing is burnt on motherboard....everything works even usb....my computer is reading the device....just no display thats it...i tried to disconnect the display and see...still everything works no heat up...
so it takes me towards the screen problem....
Now is there any chance to screen plug getting damaged from the motherboard.... there are just two slots i dont think it has any chance of damage...
And also the screen is responsive but not display...i can swipe and receive calls and everything....just no display...
So what is damaged ?
As there are two parts of screen..
This is the exact thing whats happening
After a lot of research...i found that from the three parts which i thought i had problem with is that...lcd digitizer and gpu...
there is no digitizer issue...after my research...now left if lcd might have burnt out or gpu might have burnt out...

I'm really guessing here but like I said before, i'd say restore the factory image from Google to see if there's any software issues at play like a kernel issue.
At least then (if that doesn't fix it) you have the option of either sending in the device to LG for a fix, giving it to a third party repair shop, or buying the screen assembly yourself and replacing it that way.
Like NABENDU1 said you can get one on ebay or other sites, find the tutorials on youtube and you already seem to have the necessary tools so that'd be the cheapest way.
Though i'd say make sure you get the whole assembly to make replacing it easier, or it can get quite fiddly.
If it still doesn't work after that, then it may be a problem with the motherboard which would also need fixing.
Good luck figuring it out though.

The white ring stays even when it's off?
If you're sure you reconnected all the ribbons inside and wiping everything and flashing the factory image didn't solve the issue then it's safe to assume there's a hardware fault somewhere. Unless you or anyone else can think of what else it could be, it looks like it's time to try replacing the screen assembly.
Don't know where you'll be able to find one in India. Ebay might have one, aliexpress might also be worth a look, I saw one on there that ships to India from China for Rs. 4,070.40 / piece with free shipping.
Again good luck!

Strip of unresponsive screen when powered on for a while?

So something I noticed on my old note 4 is that the screen has a strip unresponsive to touch (pen works fine).
The thing that weirds me out is that when you reboot the phone, it works perfectly fine, but after being on for a few hours, the middle part of the screen just stops responding.
Rebooting revives the part of the screen, but not for long. Factory resetting it does nothing different and it's running completely stock firmware and software.
Any ideas as to what's causing this? I'm not sure if replacing the screen would help since it seems to work fine for the short duration that it does.
It sounds like a digitizer problem. I wonder also if the heat of the phone is causing something to change or even physically warp to cause the unresponsive part.

Either a blown display or mobo.
A trace, solder joint, micro weld or junction failed.
It's possible it could be a connector/ribbon cable failure in which case easily repairable.
Check the display/mobo ribbon connectors...

I'm pretty sure it's not heat since you can turn it on, leave it on a table, idle without anything running, and it'll be completely room temp and the part of the screen stops responding.

I'll give them a look over, hopefully reseating connectors may help

Could be literally 100s of thousands of parts that could have failed; semiconductor junctions, resistors or caps.
Solder failures aren't uncommon either.
If you spare parts, use the process of elimination. If you really like that model having a few parts queens around is a plan.
Hopefully it's a connector contact... check all connections including grounds.
For $650 you can get a Note 10+ 512gb in excellent condition... don't got too nuts trying to fix it.

i'm not using this phone, it's my dad's old phone that i just want to mess around with since he put it in a drawer a while ago. I don't really plan on putting much into it. just hopefully get it running well and to **** around with roms on it.
Also $650 still isn't cheap for a phone when you're paying cash outright :v
at least a lot more expensive than a $50 screen replacement or $35 motherboard

I gave you a top shelf example.
Lots S-10s etc.
There's no guarantee swamping out parts will fix anything. The devil is in the details.

Sorry to hear that.
Some devices seem to defy being repaired.
45 years ago Tom Schall owned a TV repair shop. He was an excellent technician with a engineering degree in electronics.
He swapped out a trouble filled Magnavox chassis with a known good one for a customer after repairing the original one at least twice only to have another circuit fail.
After a month he did the swamp but continued to try and fix the original. He repaired completely different sections of it only to have another one fail, HV, tuner, horizontal output, audio, and more.
Never once did it survive a couple days of burn in, sometimes only hours. It got to be a running joke. Hundreds of test point checks, scoped it, testing isolated components pondering how it could be so cryptic to repair. At this point no one else would even touch it... but Tom persisted for at least 3 more years in his spare time.
If there's a heaven or hell I'm sure Tom's still tinkering with that chassis. RIP
They weren't called Magotboxes for nothing

See if this works for you, it did for me after i thinking digitser was kerputt.
on Dialler, dial: *#2663#
if a menu comes up, choose the top left option to upgrade the fw for touchscreen, wait for complete, then hit home button and see if it works. Maybe best to try after your screen goes funny, it should fix straight away

That worked at first, but I rebooted the phone and it seems to be doing it again. I tried to update the firmware again, and it's not working. Any advice? It worked fine for over a day without any issue after doing that at first, now it's back to doing it again.

Sorry late reply, I didnt get a notification. It worked for me and I haven't had to do it again, it likely sounds like you have a hardware issue unfortunately.
Only other option maybe, is putting on a custom rom, which will instigate a full system wipe and a new fresh software install to a more modern Android version. Possibly may be worth a shot?

Alright, update.
i tried again, and it fixed it, but a while later, it did it again. Since that seemed to fix it for a bit, i can't imagine it being solely a hardware problem.

honestly, that's the plan as of right now. As much as I like the S-pen features on this, it'd be for the better if it fixes it.
Update, TWRP + new rom installed. Still does it.
With Refined Nougat N7FE, I'm able to open the screen firmware menu from the dialer and update like with the stock rom. It sometimes fixes it for a while, but ends up doing it again.
