Hi guys
I have a problem getting MMS to work. I THINK the problem started when I changed my phone number using an app "My phone number". It was incorrectly set so I fixed it and that allowed me to see the correct portrait in my sms conversations but mms won't work.
Before anyone says change it back, I have no idea what the phone number was before I changed it! Any help would be appreciated.
Using HD2 - With pongsters GBX V12 - T-mobile UK.

No one got any idea? Tried everything I can think of.

Well your number can only be one of two ways. Normal, or with international dialing at the start.
It cannot change the actual number, else the phone couldn't take calls, or even register on the network.
Example, mine starts 07763, but my phone stores it (and indeed half my contacts are listed) as +447763 since +44 is the UK dialing code.
If I get a txt/call that identifies itself as starting 0xxx and its in my contacts as +44xxx then I don't see the caller id, just the number.
Ok well in that case it must be something else, perhaps it was just a coincidence. I have checked and double checked the APNs for TMobile UK and still struggling.
Oh well back to the drawing board.
when i install any non-sense android ( im on O2) it always sets up several, giffgaff, tesconet (both piggyback on o2 network) and 7 (yes, seven) o2 ones, two for data, two combined data/mms and three mms.
The main problem is that five of the o2 ones has APN type that includes mms, and add to that the details aren't correct in each one, and some are for the ifoney access points which doesnt work, and i never ever get a correctly working mms until i have deleted the oddball ones, and fix the password in the one mms one that i want. Data seems to work, but i suspect that is because the settings in teh first APN in the list are correct for data, but when it tries to do mms it always fails, because of the combined data/mms ones, i believe.
All in all its a real ball ache, and the main reason i never wipe the phone between rom version updates.
Well after about a week of trying i fixed it!
I have no idea why this works, but i installed a different messanger client (GO SMS) and mms worked straight away? I have noticed that other using cyanogenmod roms have had mms problems for no reason so perhaps there really is a bug somewhere.
Anyways, thanks for the help samsamuel. And anyone else who has a similar problem, try a different sms client.

Hi all,
I've got this problem on my Dev Phone 1 - the "From" number of any SMS I receive has a form of "+<countrycode><operatorcode><number>", instead of just "<operatorcode><number>" or "<number>". It doesn't get looked up in an address book because of this.
I've never had this problem with any other phone, and it's really annoying - most of the time I have no idea who sent me a message.
Thanks in advance
I'm not sure about the dev phone in particular, but T-Mobile has always recommended storing contacts in that format. Google may have taken the hint from them when they spec'd the OS. In that sense, it might not be a bug, but a feature.

Thanks for replying.
Well, I tried storing the number with +<countrycode>. The result is that SMS senders are looked up correctly, but the incoming call caller doesn't get looked up now. So, it's "either SMS sender name, or Caller name" situation.
I tried it with sim cards from two operators (with different callers / senders), same results.
isn't it one of the main differences between US and UK firmware?

What country are you in?? filling in your profile, would help us without asking question like this.
What firmware are using? stock...modded?

Sorry about that. It's Georgia (country, not the state), the operators are Geocell and Magti. I'm using stock adp1 firmware.
Maybe it has to do with operators using different formats for calls and SMSes.
The calling numbers are in 8<operatorcode><number> format, but SMSes come from +995<operatorcode><number> (I forgot about the leading 8 in the original post, sorry).
Note that my previous phone (Nokia N73), and every other phone I've used, and all of my friends' phones have absolutely no problems with that.

Thanks for the link.
The only place I could find a setting for a country was in google account settings (timezone and an optional country field). Didn't make any difference (I did a sync and reboot).
I found this link, but I'm not sure if it's related - maybe just an old Windows Mobile issue.

very annoying
hi,
am having the same problem in here ...
sms'es include country code in the FROM field, whilst calls do not !
as a result if I want to have a contact to be rocognised to calls and sms, i need to add two entries - 1st with his number only, 2nd -> with the country code - ....
is there a way ( reg hack ) to make the phone remove the country code when receiving an sms, or the other way round ...
i have had no problems with nokia and SE phones before ... sms would still contain country codes, but for these phones , these two numbers would still be recognized and treated conveniently...

All my contacts are stored as +<country><number> and I have not had a problem with incoming calls not being identified. I am in the US using T-Mo. Phone also properly identified calls when I was using a different sim overseas. Looks like ymmv?
It was fixable in WM by going editing the registry key: HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIdMatch and changing the value to something like 7 or 6 instead of 8. Later on, HTC made it automatic by either grabbing the value from the provider or having a DB of presets for each country.
However, on Android, the problem still persists. More than 1 year later and it's still there, even on Android 2.2.

Actually, I haven't had this problem for quite some time now (I'm on cyanogen 1.6 now). Fixed some time when I switched to JF or Cyanogen, don't remember exactly.
I don't know if anyone else has encountered this problem, but it seems to me my SMS/MMS manager is messed up. I had a SMS conversation with 2 contacts and they received all my messages at once, 3 times.. I also received several errors at once "message could not be delivered, stored as concept" (needed to press 10 times OK). I received a MMS but couldn't download it (mms worked perfect with my previous phone). I sent 3 MMS's, but only the first one was received. When I try to open "sent items" my manager "blocks" (and does weird things when I keep scrolling down), but I can go back to the other folders. Is it normal that every message I sent is stored in Outbox?
Another q, how can I display "time" in my topbar? I know it was possible with my P3600, but since HTC Home it's a bit difficult to find this (non-existing) option.
Thanks.
I don't have this problem with my Snap - I have an unlocked HTC-branded device (not obtained from a network provider), OS details as per my signature. You?
To get the clock to show in the Windows Mobile Standard icon bar you need ClockOnTop.exe - there's no facility to put the time and date there otherwise (as you could with Windows Mobile Professional).
See here.
Thanks, I got the clock installed now.
I also have an unbranded HTC device. ROM: 1.19.404.1, Radio: 3.45.25.30A.
So you can access "sent items" without a problem? And your outgoing messages, are they stored in "Outbox" or "Sent items"?
I did something wrong during the first setup of my device:
When asked for my internet connection, I pressed "cancel" since my internet provider wasn't listed. Therefore the setup of my device wasn't completed and that's why my message system was driving mad. Probably also the result of receiving a few messages before completion.
I performed a hard reset, chose a random provider and everything's working fine now!
SOLVED!

Well I had the same problem and it was really screwed up, my settings were listed and applied. That night it sent my messages time after time to all the contacts I sent messages to previously. I thought there would be something wrong in the network but my operator ensured me the messages originated from my device at a +- 10 minute pace.
I contacted HTC support in the Netherlands, I was told to do a hard reset and it was fixed. I recommend hard resetting all new Snap devices upon first use to eliminate this problem. I also received a message from a fellow new-Snap-owner who had the same problem, so watch out with this as it will tear up your phone bill!
My Snap is unlocked HTC branded and everything else seems perfectly fine!
Thanks for the clockontop tip btw!
ozone unlocked
does anyone know what i need to do to add mms settings or how to unlock these settings ,when i go into the settings everything is greyed out new edit etc,i have all of my other settings done internet etc im useing this on tmobile and i have wm 6.5 onit email me at [email protected] if anyone knows.
Hi,
I'm using a Sim Free Touch Diamond 2 on T-Mobile UK. Got a strange problem going on at the moment.
When someone sends me an SMS (From any network T-Mobile, Orange, O2 etc). I usually get the MMS with the picture downloaded within a couple of minutes. I can view this on the phone as you would expect. BUT, two days later I will then receive a TXT from T-Mobile saying that someone has send me a MMS, please go to http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/pmcollect - When I go and login the same picture message is waiting for me...?
Anyone else had this problem? Strange thing is that this only appears to have started happening since I returned from a trip to europe.
I've tried T-Mobile customer service - all they can suggest is that this is probably a setting on the handset....
Can anyone help or throw any light on this?
Cheers,
A.
Hi
I am having the same problem.and also experiancing sms coming through late or not at all. however i actualy work for T-Mobile.. and know its not a problem with the D2..it is more likely network issues. but am not aware of any issues..i will speak to technical next time i can and will let you know what they say..i is starting to bug me as well but it is some thing that started for me back in June and i was using my D1 at the time..
Hi there,
I have a similar problem.
When I receive a MMS I only get a sms/text notification saying that I have received a MMS and that I have to go to the t-mobile website. I can't view the mms on my phone.
Is this because I need to install a program to view the MMS?
I am able to send MMS, I just sent a MMS to myself and I received it without a problem, but as a sms/text message, not the MMS itself.
Really annoying!
Hoping to get an answer.
Cheers!
It sound like a problem with your settings...
Go to the t-mobile website :
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS
and send the settings to the phone once installed do a soft reset.
you should install both MMS and internet settings...
if this still doesnt work then you may have to try setting them up manualy ..
Heres a link to the manual on how to do it and the settings you need:
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=selectphone&phone=HA176
if that still doesnt work you will need to call customer service there maybe a problem with the settings on your account. tell them you have done the above steps cos they will want to do them again with you and if you get someone in the phillipines this not a easy task.. they should transfer you to technical support and they will sort it..
any more problems just ask as i have worked for T-Mobile for nearly 4 years..
Thank you!!
It worked!! Thank you very much!
The first option didn't work as I have a dutch number. I did try to send the mms options to my phone via the dutch t-mobile site but they don't have the settings yet for this phone!
I then googled for "t-mobile mms instellingen" (settings) and I found them. Did it manually and now it works like a charm.
For the dutch people interested, here is the site with the settings:
https://www.t-mobile.nl/persoonlijk...lgestelde-vragen.aspx?q=algemene instellingen
Thanks for pointing me in that direction!!
Cheers!
You normally get that text about going to the website to get your MMS when the network thinks your phones not MMS compatible or you don't have MMS messaging live on your acc.
Hi sorry only just getting back..
managed to speak to technical and what they said is they need 5 examples.
date time number and postcode of area you where in.
so they can raise the problem and get your mms profile reset and should then be fine.
Hi,
I have a Samsung Vibrant. As I'm in Australia, I was playing around trying to connect to another frequency via *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information. I set it to AUS and backed out (pretty sure that's all I did). Then I couldn't send any texts .... at all. Failed.
I switched back to Automatic frequency - no difference....
I have re-falshed the OS with Odin, both with the most recent 2.1 release and also with one that is supplied on the xda post "OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images" (I'm not allowed to post links) (I've still got this one installed right now). Both made absolutely no difference.
I deleted all user data... no difference.
Now I have a stock phone entirely, that will not send any text messages.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Andrew
I've noticed that SMSC is blank - I tried to set it to the right number: +61411990001, but it just returns 'update error'. So I tried 0411990001. It didn't 'do' anything, but didn't return an error. It disappeared when I backed out and came back in. it didn't fix the problem.
Is there a trick to updating the SMSC that I've missed? It seems likely to be the error??
there is also no information in 'Your Phone number', and I recall that the default way to access voicemail never worked because of 'no voicemail number on the sim card'...... does this all add up to my sim card not having the correct default information? Is there a way to fix this?
....help

Here are a few tips:
1 in mobile settings click apn and make sure there is a green circle on thee right of the name for your apn. If not just tap on the circle once and out should turn green.
2 in mobile settings, click automatic network discovery then try step 1 again
3 open mms app, press menu and go to settings. Make sure auto retrieve is checked.
Let me know if this works or not.

@crazy25000: Thanks heaps, that led me in the right direction to correct the texting issue. I had no apn at all - no options and had to add it manually. I'm not sure that it worked, but perhaps. I did get to the right settings menu to fix the smsc number though, which is great.
I still feel like my sim card is not quite right - there seems to be no default data for the carrier on the sim.
Immediate problem solved though. thanks again.
i have done the same thing while fiddling with my vibrant. sms wont send because the gateway # is blank . what i did was pop it in a friends iphone and type **5005*7672*61411990001#
(61411990001 is optus smsc # yours may be different)
then i put it back in my vibrant and viola!
altho i still cant send or recieve mms..

Glad to great it's slowly getting resolved. If you don't have an apn, click on automatic network discovery in mobile settings and it will automatically generate the correct apn for your carrier. Keep me posted because this it's relatively easy to resolve so don't stress

I have just bought a brand new (unlocked) Dell Venue Pro. It had Windows phone 7.5 pre installed and I have installed all the updates. After I finished setting up my account and settings, checked the marketplace... I tryed to send an SMS - and got a nasty suprise. The phone won't send any SMS messages to anyone. It receives them OK, it can make calls, use data connection and everything but it won't send a damn SMS. When I go to the messaging settings, the messaging center number isn't there. When I enter it and tap save, the field just goes blank again. I have tryed rebooting the phone and reseting it from the about menu but it still won't send an SMS.
So I tryed a different SIM card (the same provider) and here the message center number was entered and the SMS was sen't successfully. So why won't it work with my SIM card?
Settings - > cellular -> edit apn
Set your apn info from your provider.
Also next time search the forums first. There are already a few threads about this
I think that you need to read my question again. NOT MMS! I have trouble sending SMS messages. And those don't need the APN - which is set and the mobile internet is working.
I've seen SMS get screwed up when the MMS settings arent set. The only other possibility is that you need some AT commands sent from your phone.
I have just tried the logical step - I sen't an MMS. The MMS was sent without any problems and was delivered to the other phone. But the damn thing still won't send a bloody SMS.
Call your provider up and have them activate sms on your sim card.
I don't see any reason why they should be deactivated. If I stick my SIM card into my old Motorola Milestone I can normalny send SMS messages.
Well I fixed it. It took a little bit of magic but it is working now.
I took the SIM card out and inserted it into a cheap samsung dumbphone and changed the SMS centre number to an incorrect one (if I entered the correct number it didn't show up), then I inserted it back into the Dell and the incorrect number was shown in the settings. So I changed it into a correct one and this time it remembered the number. So everything is working now.
I have same issue
I tried the SIM trick, I did manage to change the number in a dumbphone, but I still could not read or change the message center number in the DVP. I just did the latest update through zune yesterday, but that had no positive effect.
Any other suggestions? Maybe a hard reset?
