Downgrading Optimus 7 - Optimus 7 General

Hi guys,
I just got my Optimus 7, and I managed to do a simple debranding to get it to NoDo. However, I forgot that ChevronWP7 doesn't work on NoDo (I've been waiting for my student developer account to be approved, but it is taking too long), and I plan to downgrade. There are selections of ROMs in the development section, and I have downloaded a few of them, but not sure which one to choose. Can anyone suggest which one is suitable for my phone? Also taking into account the possibility of future updates, which region will get the update the soonest?
FYI, my phone is bought through Singaporean carrier, but weirdly enough, was branded Optus Australia (that is why I had to debrand, as Singaporean carriers already had NoDo, but not in Aussie yet).
Thanks...

Oh, WAIT! Do not DO IT!
Hahahaha.
LG Optimus 7 does not need that buggy Chevron unlock.
Visit the developer forum for this device, just a couple of lines under this one, and you will find a MUCH simpler way of unlocking your device.

Can an ulocked G1 be locked by upgrade or root?

If I have an unlocked G1, can anyone tell me if I root my phone and update to some of the firmwares posted hete (RC33), is it possibel that my phone becomes locked again? I now have RC19 and the phone is fully unlocked, but I'm afraid it can become locked again if I root it or flash it with another firmware. I have enough technical background to do the rooting and flashing as I have expoerience with windows mobile, but this is something new for me. Btw - i totally love the G1 and regret not leaving windows mobile.
The Sim-Lock is in an area of the phone that can not be "flashed' by the user. You are good to go!
Thanks a lot for that !

I have been looking for this answer, as well. I have a brand new g1 that I traded my 3g iphone for. It's unlocked and on my AT&T account with no problems. But I had my iphone modded to the hilt and so of course I want to do the with the g1. That was the answer i was looking for!
Anyone else?
Yes. Please, anyone who has rooted and upgraded their UNLOCKED g1 , share experience. It may seem like a stupid question to some of the "advanced" users
bt remember - you weren't born with knowledge, so share it!
For example - an ulocked Iphone can be locked when upgrading so are you sure that the G1 won't lock as well!
What do you mean unlocked? As in sim unlocked, if so it can not be locked by upgrading software.
If you mean unlocked as in you have access to root. Then yes, but that is why you use JF's firmware.
alright ive got a rooted rc33 and im on at&t, ive upgraded from rc30..
so even when you upgrade you're good to go
I mean sim unlocked
I mean what unlocked means - SIM unlocked. My device is rc19 and came unlocked for any sim cards. I haven't done anything with it yet - root or upgrade and I wanted to ask if it's safe root and upgrade a sim unlocked device.
I was concerned it may become locked again because I don't know anything about the unlocking process on the G1 - I know there is a code that's generated according to the IMEI and tahat's about it but I wanted to know if this code can be erased by flashing newer firmware. I have read the steps described on this site for root and upgrade and I plan to do those with my device but I wanted to gather some opinions first. I hope this topic will be useful to others who have bought the G1 unlocked and are concerned.

youre safe to upgrade and root, ive done both and mine has stayed unlocked..
Ok. That sounds encouraging. I recall that there were more than one ways to unlock the Iphone. Is it the same with the G1 - I know the main way to unlock
it is by entering a code but I also know there are HARDWARE unlocked devices (as the developer edition of the G1) - Is yours only simUnlocked or is it hardware unlocked too? I'm sorry if I'm asking too much, but I don't want to pay 30$ to get an unlock code again.
It's not like the iphone. The iphone is has to be 'unlocked' by hacking the firmware, since apple have never released any legitimate way of unlocking it, and seem to take great delight in re-locking 'unlocked' iphones every couple of months (this is one of the reasons why my iphone sits at home gathering dust).
The G1 has a standard unlock code, just like just about every phone on the market. Once that code has been entered the phone is unlocked permanently. There's no such thing as a hardware unlocked device - it's merely never been locked to a provider. In the same way if I buy a 5800 from Nokia it's unlocked but it's no different to one got on contract, it's just never been locked.
Google don't care much if you run JF firmware or something you cooked up yourself... they give away the source code so you can do just that.
Thanks.
So entering the simunlock code is irreversible process, having nothing to do with the firmware. That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks guys.
Successfully rooted, upgraded to Jf RC33 with multitouch, put apps on SD and very happy now

official tango push out--anyone got it yet?

dell pushed out the update for unlocked DVP. has any tmo and att branded phone users got the update officially yet?
edit: DVP only.
If dell really did push out tango for the VP, could anyone updating please download and run fidder while doing so to capture the URLs?
Assuming there's new firmware bundles or any new cabs
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for these updates to roll out on AT&T and T-Mobile. People had torches and pitchforks waiting for the official Mango updates to roll out. Now, with Tango, an update which is primarily meant to limit features on brand new low-end handsets sold outside the U.S., the demand is much lower, and it will be a low priority for the carriers.
I used the cabsender method for all three post-7720 updates, and it worked fine. Knowing that the WP7.8 update cabs will be posted here long before the U.S. carriers' rollout informed my decision to keep installing via cabsender.

Looks like the firmware version is the same for unbranded DVPs after Tango update and before the update... don't think there's a fw update unfortunately. Wouldn't mind knowing the URLs to confirm cabs are the ones we already know though
http://www.wpcentral.com/dell-shocks-world-again-tango-update-pushed-out-venue-pro
I'm mainly interested in the fw bundle cabs as we only have the TMO and ATT ones, the unbranded ones noone's bothered finding the urls for and noone is willing to downgrade and reupdate to find them.
Unfortunately it's not even 8779, the urls for 8773 are already known now
Dell + android definitely spoiled us as we can reasonably easily get the equivilent of FFUs for the majority of the roms (as that's how dell normally hands out android updates, as full flashes)
Hi All,
Just wanted to report that even though i did not get the Tango update pushed to my unlocked and unbranded Venue Pro, I was able to successfully use the force update method through Zune.
I updated to 8112 first, and then (using the force update again) to 8773.

I didn't have to force an update on my unlocked DVP (was notified on the phone last night) though I did have to run update twice. First time it updated to 8112 and after the phone rebooted I received another update notice and updated to 8773
got an official tango update 2 weeks or more ago on my unlocked dell venue pro. im in the UK on the o2 network (the network does not matter as i bought it sim free unlocked from the dell website). not sure why other people with unlocked phones are not getting the update?

I am in USA on ATT, may be this is the reason why i did not get the update pushed to my phone... i bought my dvp from dell too...
The network itself doesnt matter, but what carrier firmware bundle you have installed.
AFAIK the only variations are:
EU Unlocked
US Unlocked
TmoUSA
At&t
If someone had an unupdated EU or US unlocked device and got us the Unlocked firmware bundles, you could turn the TMO one into an unlocked one.
(By unlocked it has nothing to do with sim locking, it's simply the name of #1 and #2, they're generic bundles not customized for any carrier)
I have EU unlocked device and recieve official update 8773 a one week ago. Nothing visible changes thought... Waiting for 7.8! )

So guys, the V35 was my dream for months, and finally got an Ebay unit that fit can ship here. It's already coming.
I read that LG imported to Brazil the AT&T version, not the korean, with jut a Br ROM on it.
Will this flash work? need the unlocked bootloader for this ? or just LG software ?
You will save yourself some serious inconvenience by making sure it really is sim unlocked before flashing away from the AT&T rom. You can read about someone else's experience on that here:

Tnx for the link. I've received info that the phone is fully unlocked, and already tested in Brazilian carriers. The previous owner already lived here and used the phone here with no issues. Will keep reading about it nonetheless
Hi mate, I also got an AT&T from USA, (I live in Spain) and I flashed V350AWMH10a_05_TCL_MX_OP_0124.kdz ROM from mexican carrier Telcel.
I use patched LGUP, and it works fine. No unlock bootloader needed.
Also is an Oreo ROM, not Pie, but I prefer, because Pie Roms had problems with call recorders app.

NEW V35 [7/2020] Stuck on OREO?

Just bought this phone about a week ago, it is an Unlocked AT&T Model. It tells me basically that it does not need a OS Update - that it has the Latest 8.0. I am giving up on LG Support already!
Using their APK to update via USB told me that it cannot even check the Version of the OS, so definitely NO Update for this SUCKER!
Can anyone here PLEASE help me find a way to UPDATE this nice Smart Phone?
THANKS!

This is what LG's response is to me about getting my AT&T Unlocked V35 Updated fm A. 8.0:
Hi Michael, we appreciate your time in getting back to us. I will be happy to assist you today.
In response to your inquiry, for carrier unlocked phones, the only way to get it updated is, you need to have a service again with the original service provider for them to send or push the Software update to your phone. While LG has no control with the software updates for carrier unlock phones, compared to manufacture unlock phones it automatically receives the software updates that was released OTA (Over the Air).
I hope I have provided all the information and wish it has been helpful in addressing your query. It has been a pleasure to help you out to the best of my knowledge and my skills.
Should you have any other questions, please feel free and don't hesitate to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-793-8896. As this email is used for outgoing mail only, you may send file attachments, replies, any information and further inquiries over to the email section of support https://www.lg.com/us/support/email-appointment and we will do our best to assist you without you having to repeat the details of your previous message.
Thank you for choosing LG Electronics!

I heard from LG Support and they said that since it is an AT&T Unlocked Phone and not unlocked by them - I have to sign up with AT&T and noot my T-Mobile too get Updated....RATS....I just left
AT&T for better and cheaper service from T-Mobile and now I have to go back....guess I will and if/when they upgrade this NICE phone I will leave dem again!
Or as I suggested, you simply cross flash to North American Open Market (NAO) firmware via Dev Patched LGUP.
You can also try temporarily putting in an AT&T SIM card (not even activated) and that can trigger AT&T update, if left for a few hours.
But people in other countries just cross flash to NAO as they don't need AT&T firmware whatsoever.

Yes, people report AT&T SIM card will do the trick. Either prepaid or postpaid, they are both the same. Supposedly they don't have to be activated -- as long as you have AT&T firmware on your phone.
Some say a Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO) SIM card will, also. While Cricket (owned by AT&T) SIM card will not.

Latest firmware for the V35 now (AT&T does have an early version of the Android 10 update, but kdz not released. We have to wait for a ULM kdz to be released to flash the 10 and update. Until then we're on Android 9 still) is the 04/2020 update. Sort by date on lg-firmwares.com, for device choose LMV350ULM, you want the ULM as its the unlocked carrier free version of the V35, and crossflashing the AT&T version is completely safe (I'm using an AT&T V35 in Canada on Koodo with the ULM software). In the software list choose GFI or USA (I'd recommend the USA version, unless you're on google fi).

Buy one of these AT&T SIM cards. Less than $3 with free shipping.

Just follow this video for upgrading your V35 to latest firmware
so, (directed toward Chazzmatt) I'm just needing a recommendation on which one to do (or wait for). Ive got the ATT unlocked model on MetrobyTMobile. (LM-V350AWM) I first updated it via modified LGUP to V350ULM20d (V350ULM20d_00_NAO_US_OP_0612), then to V350ULM20f (V350ULM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0218). ((it still shows as V350AWM in the sys info, but all bloatware is gone))
Now, a while back I went into an ATT store and got them to sell me an un-activated sim card, and tried to update that way and failed (not knowing you had to wait a couple hours or overnight). My question is, would the simcard ota update work for me, and if so, would it be the full blown bloated att version of 10.
Or, should I just keep patiently waiting for the NAO KDZ (V350ULM30?) like you've been screaming for us to do since the very beginning! lol
(apologies for the gratuitous use of parentheses)
*Update - They're now saying we will be getting LG's new Velvet UI, should I wait even longer for that to be released???

The AT&T SIM card trick only works if you still have AT&T firmware installed.
If you cross flashed to another V35 firmware you need to wait for that KDZ to be released. It's coming. LG is just slow. Same deal last year with Pie.

ah, thanks for clearing that up! I'm guessing we might have to wait even longer now that they've announced we'll be getting Velvet UI and need time to add that to the KDZ, or is the UI update something that will come later on?

T Mobile One Plus 6T Unlocked and Bootloader unlockef

I'm just having a really hard time finding an answer. I just had a OnePlus 6T T Mobile edition find it's way to me. It's carrier unlocked and Bootloader unlocked and it's running the latest T Mobile version 10 OOS. Since the bootloader is unlocked, can I just flash the latest non T Mobile OOS Android 10 version to it? In other words the US 6T edition? Or must I use the international version? I'm really confused and sure this has to be answered somewhere but just can't find it. Can anyone help and point me in the right direction? I have lots of experience flashing ROMs, but this one has me stumped at this point. Thanks.
I'm no expert... lol, but based on what I do know, I believe these are your steps...
So I'd take a look at this post-
[T-Mobile / Guide] - Full SIM and Bootloader Unlock + Root for locked devices
Background: I am writing this short guide for people like me that want all the info about the T-Mobile 6T unlock capabilities. None of this is my work. I wanted to have a central thread where T-Mobile users can discuss the T-Mobile specifics of...
forum.xda-developers.com
Follow Step 4, and then from that point allow the ROM to update via OTAs. The MSMDownloadTools are basically a fix-all, but set you back in time update-wise.
I do not believe there's a full TMo ROM for the latest updates, but once again, I could be wrong.
You could also use the International Version if you want, that is what I am running now, but if you want root access, I believe getting 11 working has some extra steps/workarounds (so i'm still on 10)
I initially changed to International because of quicker security updates and it works fine, no issues to complain about, but my wife (on TMo stock) seems to get better signal than I do in more rural areas.

Thanks for the input. I have seen all those threads, but the main purpose there was for people who did not want to wait for the SIM unlock. That got them past that and also got them so they were able to unlock the bootloader. I already have an unlocked SIM and unlocked bootloader. So I know I could load up lineageos if I wanted to without doing anything special. I would think I should be able to use TWRP to put the International version on using TWRP. And maybe the US version. But that may not be the case.
It just seems like any work on this device stopped after the above. Of course once you are bootloader unlocked, there may not be need for much more and people may just move on to other ROMs.

The more I search, I guess that it appears there are some privileged partitions. This method you mention gets around that irrespective of the SIM and Bootloader being unlocked already.... Sigh....
