I'm just having a really hard time finding an answer. I just had a OnePlus 6T T Mobile edition find it's way to me. It's carrier unlocked and Bootloader unlocked and it's running the latest T Mobile version 10 OOS. Since the bootloader is unlocked, can I just flash the latest non T Mobile OOS Android 10 version to it? In other words the US 6T edition? Or must I use the international version? I'm really confused and sure this has to be answered somewhere but just can't find it. Can anyone help and point me in the right direction? I have lots of experience flashing ROMs, but this one has me stumped at this point. Thanks.
I'm no expert... lol, but based on what I do know, I believe these are your steps...
So I'd take a look at this post-
[T-Mobile / Guide] - Full SIM and Bootloader Unlock + Root for locked devices
Background: I am writing this short guide for people like me that want all the info about the T-Mobile 6T unlock capabilities. None of this is my work. I wanted to have a central thread where T-Mobile users can discuss the T-Mobile specifics of...
forum.xda-developers.com
Follow Step 4, and then from that point allow the ROM to update via OTAs. The MSMDownloadTools are basically a fix-all, but set you back in time update-wise.
I do not believe there's a full TMo ROM for the latest updates, but once again, I could be wrong.
You could also use the International Version if you want, that is what I am running now, but if you want root access, I believe getting 11 working has some extra steps/workarounds (so i'm still on 10)
I initially changed to International because of quicker security updates and it works fine, no issues to complain about, but my wife (on TMo stock) seems to get better signal than I do in more rural areas.

Thanks for the input. I have seen all those threads, but the main purpose there was for people who did not want to wait for the SIM unlock. That got them past that and also got them so they were able to unlock the bootloader. I already have an unlocked SIM and unlocked bootloader. So I know I could load up lineageos if I wanted to without doing anything special. I would think I should be able to use TWRP to put the International version on using TWRP. And maybe the US version. But that may not be the case.
It just seems like any work on this device stopped after the above. Of course once you are bootloader unlocked, there may not be need for much more and people may just move on to other ROMs.
Thanks.

The more I search, I guess that it appears there are some privileged partitions. This method you mention gets around that irrespective of the SIM and Bootloader being unlocked already.... Sigh....

If I have an unlocked G1, can anyone tell me if I root my phone and update to some of the firmwares posted hete (RC33), is it possibel that my phone becomes locked again? I now have RC19 and the phone is fully unlocked, but I'm afraid it can become locked again if I root it or flash it with another firmware. I have enough technical background to do the rooting and flashing as I have expoerience with windows mobile, but this is something new for me. Btw - i totally love the G1 and regret not leaving windows mobile.
The Sim-Lock is in an area of the phone that can not be "flashed' by the user. You are good to go!
Thanks a lot for that !

I have been looking for this answer, as well. I have a brand new g1 that I traded my 3g iphone for. It's unlocked and on my AT&T account with no problems. But I had my iphone modded to the hilt and so of course I want to do the with the g1. That was the answer i was looking for!
Anyone else?
Yes. Please, anyone who has rooted and upgraded their UNLOCKED g1 , share experience. It may seem like a stupid question to some of the "advanced" users
bt remember - you weren't born with knowledge, so share it!
For example - an ulocked Iphone can be locked when upgrading so are you sure that the G1 won't lock as well!
What do you mean unlocked? As in sim unlocked, if so it can not be locked by upgrading software.
If you mean unlocked as in you have access to root. Then yes, but that is why you use JF's firmware.
alright ive got a rooted rc33 and im on at&t, ive upgraded from rc30..
so even when you upgrade you're good to go
I mean sim unlocked
I mean what unlocked means - SIM unlocked. My device is rc19 and came unlocked for any sim cards. I haven't done anything with it yet - root or upgrade and I wanted to ask if it's safe root and upgrade a sim unlocked device.
I was concerned it may become locked again because I don't know anything about the unlocking process on the G1 - I know there is a code that's generated according to the IMEI and tahat's about it but I wanted to know if this code can be erased by flashing newer firmware. I have read the steps described on this site for root and upgrade and I plan to do those with my device but I wanted to gather some opinions first. I hope this topic will be useful to others who have bought the G1 unlocked and are concerned.

youre safe to upgrade and root, ive done both and mine has stayed unlocked..
Ok. That sounds encouraging. I recall that there were more than one ways to unlock the Iphone. Is it the same with the G1 - I know the main way to unlock
it is by entering a code but I also know there are HARDWARE unlocked devices (as the developer edition of the G1) - Is yours only simUnlocked or is it hardware unlocked too? I'm sorry if I'm asking too much, but I don't want to pay 30$ to get an unlock code again.
It's not like the iphone. The iphone is has to be 'unlocked' by hacking the firmware, since apple have never released any legitimate way of unlocking it, and seem to take great delight in re-locking 'unlocked' iphones every couple of months (this is one of the reasons why my iphone sits at home gathering dust).
The G1 has a standard unlock code, just like just about every phone on the market. Once that code has been entered the phone is unlocked permanently. There's no such thing as a hardware unlocked device - it's merely never been locked to a provider. In the same way if I buy a 5800 from Nokia it's unlocked but it's no different to one got on contract, it's just never been locked.
Google don't care much if you run JF firmware or something you cooked up yourself... they give away the source code so you can do just that.
Thanks.
So entering the simunlock code is irreversible process, having nothing to do with the firmware. That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks guys.
Successfully rooted, upgraded to Jf RC33 with multitouch, put apps on SD and very happy now
With the S5 devices with the eMMC 15 chip to aquire an unlocked bootloader, which ROM's from other variants would they be able to use without issues. Just trying to get a thread going for users and Dev's to share their opinions for others to gain knowledge from. Along with Pro's and Con's and 'how to's'. Happy ROM'n
T-Mobile variant seems to be the most supported ROM-wise. It's not locked down to 5.0 TW ROM's like the G900V (Verizon Variant).
The Verizon variant is the most locked down.
That is the question and for any helpful users to post.. Which T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T(if any) and other variant ROM's can we "safely" install on our device. And what are the Pro's and Con's and the fixes(if any).... i guess this is more like a R&D thread to where everyone can post anything that may be helpful to people having questions of which ROM is suitable since we're now new to the unlocked bootloader and hoping more(the eMMC 11's) will be able to be unlocked as well. I'm pretty new as far as setting up a "guide" type thread. But as info is passed out, I'll try to update the thread for information of the ROM's and Pro's and Con's about them.

Well now that we have an unlockable bootloader... Well, that has to go to AT&T now
To my knowledge, most variants use a generic G900F rom, because those carriers strictly use GSM bands. Verizon and AT&T use CDMA bands, which aren't fully supported in these roms. @jrkruse has released patches (thanks ) that will help with compatibility, but I think these are confined to 5.X at the moment.
I **think** there may be some modifications made to Verizon & AT&T roms regarding firmware, but I can't be sure. It seemed there was more than just CDMA support in the zips provided by JrKruse.
When flashing a G900F rom (should be safe) without patching, you'll probably only have glitchy and cutting out 4G/LTE, with no calling or SMS. Some modifications of the APN settings can maybe help a little, not much. The use of third-party texting apps has been shown to provide some support, but not complete.
Of course, all of this is just based on my strange reasoning, I could be completely wrong on some parts.
Besides cell services, these roms will work fine. Quite fast, too.
As I have stated in the other thread, if a rom is 6.0 and not touchwiz as long as it has a dev build it will boot and work without much more than verifying the apns. 6.0 Touchwiz is simply a no go, just dont try it. It is not worth the headache to get it to work.
I know cm, aokp, aicp, and Resurrection remix all have dev builds there is a couple of others that I think but havent really looked.
@camcorder123 ATT doesnt use cdma technology, they were just dicks and locked the bootloader like Verizon.
@limeaide Oops, you're right about ATT. Sure, a dev build will be easy to run, the problem is that nobody makes them. We've got a few ported but no official developers (from what I know) are actively developing for the phone. That'll probably start up sometime soon but until then we need to find a way to make the generic roms work.
Upon further research, I think it's gonna be a *tad* harder to get G900F roms to work than I thought. The reason only LTE works is because the LTE standard requires a sim card, so there's no problem in getting the phone to read the card and connect to the tower. But, CDMA is separate from the LTE standard - each phone is whitelisted on Verizon's servers (I'm assuming with the IMEI number) and does not need a sim card to access voice and SMS. This is unlike GSM, where everything is through the sim.
So I dunno, we might be stuck for a while. I wouldn't flash roms made for variants other than the KLTE edition, it might be the same outcome even though they may support CDMA.
Since theres no straight forward answer and the guides seem to be all over the place i was looking for a straight forward answer.can this be unbranded to like the dev edition or something else?

Here is about all I can find from someone reliable.

--To me this says - it should be fine to flash the full US Unlocked RUU/firmware, which is x.xx.617.x, I think the latest is 1.91.617.1
I personally have flashed the pmic-8996-1.img from multiple firmwares including, International, US Unlocked, and Tmobile testing out WiFi drain. So, some bits are ok, but the aboot.img (bootloader) contains the partition, so anything other than VZW or the US Unlocked could result in a brick.
Until someone takes the plunge and reports back, or unless their are people out there whom have done this but not seen the posts asking the question. So hopefully if they are out there they will see this thread and comment.

Reviving this to ask a related question:
Can I safely flash the latest U.S Unlocked radio to my VZW 10 which has the latest VZW firmware?
If you flash the unlocked radio you will most likely lose all your verizon features such as volte and so on I would not if you use verizon services. For what purpose would you want to may I ask ? If you want to run your Verizon version on At&t or Tmobile there are threads on both I believe, but you should have support for other carriers already I believe as I think you will just get a non Verizon sim message is all but AndyBones can direct you on how to remove that nag.

I'm not actually using the phone on Verizon network, I bought it second hand and using it on Rogers network in Canada. Everything runs fine including LTE, but reception is weaker than on my M7 (purchased from Rogers) hence my wanting to try the U.S Unlocked radios to see if things improve. Similarly voice call quality is not that great though it has improved with the 1.82 firmware upgrade.
I don't mind testing out the radio myself, just need some assurance about being able to without bricking the device due to firmware mismatch or other incompatibilities. As pointed out in this thread very little information exists out there from people who have unbranded their VZW 10s or flashed non-VZW radios.
Have you tried running the latest RUU for the Verizon HTC 10 ? This may fix your issue if you have not already. Also I think on another thread Dottat posted a method to reset your bands of some some if you look on his thread for being able to use the unlocked 10 on Verizon he has it posted on there I believe. Resetting the bands or modem has worked for some people with issues with signal.

I'm not having an "issue" per se, I just want to see if I can get improved reception with a new radio, so I don't think an RUU flash would change much (I have already reset my modem for a separate issue).
Thanks for your help, I'm hoping that andybones or another dev can answer my question about being able to flash a non-vzw radio safely.

Is Rogers a CDMA based carrier (I legit don't know). You may need to do an entire us unlocked swap, not sure if anybody has tried that yet with a vzw phone.
No Rogers is a GSM network but my VZW 10 works fine on it.
If by debranding you mean to convert it to US Unlocked version, then Straightforward answer: Yes. You don't need to read further if all you needed was a yes or no, but I felt I should post what I did to convert it to US unlocked from Verizon for others who might need help.
Verizon 4G LTE devices are already unlocked. So, just to be sure, I S-OFFed my device first via sunshine. While S-OFFing, I chose the option of S-OFF with locked bootloader. Then I changed the CID to BS_US001. Didn't have to change the MID as it was the same as US unlocked version, i.e. 2PS650000. Flashed latest TWRP (for nand backup just in case). Flashed US unlocked RUU 1.8X.617.X. Successfully updated to 1.96.617.2 via OTA.
One thing that I immediately noted after converting to US Unlocked version was that the option of OEM Unlocking which was previously not present in the Verizon version became available in the Developer Options. Hope it helped.

Hi GrimJoke,
Thanks your post! Since I last posted here I've managed to do exactly as you described and ran the Unlocked RUU, updated to 1.96. Now running stock ROM and everything works great, and in fact the phone runs better than it did on vzw software.
I've noticed the same regarding OEM Unlocking. I read from Captain Throwback here that we should now be able to unlock the bootloader with htcdev and with superCID 22222222. I won't try since it's pointless for me.

how about from Verizon to complete wwe using wwe radios for international gsm network?
does volte work with tmo, att etc after gsm?
I'm on T-Mobile so I'll have the T-Mobile variant I apologize if this question has been asked a million times but from what I've read in other threads its Sim unlocking then requesting an unlock.bin from oneplus then boot loader unlock root with magisk. I also read you could change the firmware to international version and also unlock the bootloader is this without having it Sim unlocked and is there any difference between the T-Mobile rom and the international rom? Again I apologize in advance just trying to figure out everything before I grab the phone next week. I'm upgrading to the 6T solely for root. Thank you for your time.
Edit:Already grabbed it and rooted, loving it so far
T-Mo variant can be flashed to international variant then bootloader unlocked. Then root, etc...
Flash the 9.0.11 OOS Firmware. Do not flash the 9.0.12 firmware because OP closed the loophole.

Ok thank you for the heads up where can I download the firmware
International: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/tool-6t-msmdownloadtool-v4-0-oos-9-0-5-t3867448
T-Mo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/tool-t-mobile-oneplus-6t-msmdownloadtool-t3868916
I would download the T-Mo ROM to incase you need to switch back.
Follow the instructions in the posts for a hassle free installation. Also, you might want to take a look at this thread if you want to remove the SIM lock: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-sim-unlock-t-mobile-version-type-t3915269
You can unlock your SIM, request a token from OnePlus, and then legit unlock your bootloader on the T-Mo software. I am currently using INT software until my legit unlock token gets here.]Oh and as far as the differences between the two, The INT version does not have Google Feed but it does have advanced reboot menu and a couple other minor things.
Also no T-Mo bloat.
OTher than that they are the same.

Ok again thank you for the help, it will be nice to have just one phone that's rooted instead of carrying around two, my main phone and a rooted ZTE Zmax from 2014
I have an old Tmobile S7E on old ass firmware (Android 7.0 BQE1) and it's already rooted. I just went through Tmobiles Device Unlock process and I believe the phone was unlocked successfully. I'm looking to upgrade to the latest firmware that still allows rooting. I've looked through the Custom Roms threads and can't tell which one is the latest. I am also wondering if I need to use Verizon firmware or stay on Tmobile firmware.
For instance, this thread here: by jrkruse, he mentions to another user in the comments "This one or verizon one? This one just has the Tmobile csc stuff added and a build.prop for gsm carriers thats it" so it made me wonder if I'm using Verizon service but it's a Tmobile phone if this would work. I know Verizon is CDMA so him saying gsm carriers made me think it may not work.
I know this device is old and this thread doesn't get browsed as much anymore so hopefully I can get some answers. If I can't get this working I guess I'll just be getting a new 2020 model phone :highfive:
Thanks guys!
