I was just browsing the ATT site cause I'm due for an upgrade. The only phone running android other than the aria worth getting is the captivate, but I still love my aria and its gonna take one monster of a phone to get me away from it. Anyway, I stumbled on the aria's product page and read a few 1 star reviews from the "average" person... They generally hate this phone, they don't understand simple concepts... like using the phone correctly... It's so depressing, I'd hate to be such a primitive minded person in these technology driven times, I'd post a link to a guide to root the phone if I didn't already know att would delete it, and possibly punish me for breach of contract.
CES is less than 2 weeks away. HTC and ATT are supposed to announce a premier partnership, and unveil a Dual core HTC Android that is supposed to kill everything lit there.

Fo Sho! My friend is pretty excited about it! The HTC guy said that there are going to be some pretty amazing phones at CES. There was a post a while back on a website, and the guy said that he was testing a 4" screen HTC model with front and rear camera. Wish I could find the link, I have been searching for hrs.
Look man, I am just telling you what I have heard, take it as you will!
Does XDA have an ignore feature? This forum would be much more enjoyable without Kaschenberg.
Oh man, yeah, I can't wait for a dual core android... portable n64 anyone? lol, prolly won't go THAT far, but it certainly will before you know it, now... if only I could connect my ps3 controller with bluetooth...
Awesome, I just checked the Aria reviews on the AT&T site and mine was the #1 most helpful! I'm glad I can help sway some opinions in favor of the Aria.

While it's very l33t and in line with this forum in general to root your phone, in no way does the Aria require rooting. Anyone giving it a 1 star rating probably should just stick to Razr's.
My wife's Aria is stock and she loves it. It's fast, smooth, and besides her seemingly ALWAYS getting "select vs dial" confused in the dialer, she has zero problems with it. Only minor problem she has is seemingly inconsistent battery life.. Sometimes she'll get 2 days, sometimes it's 12 hours, even with her fairly constant type of usage.

oh yeah, I completely agree, the only reason I finally rooted MY aria was for the overclock kernel so I could fully enjoy the SNES emu I paid for. I was so reluctant to root originally cause stock was just so enjoyable for me.
Also, please don't dis the Razr :'( My last phone was a gold Razr V3xx which had bookworm on it with a game scoring over 28 mil, and the sickest tower defense game ever put on a phone via .jar files... But I do get your point

Yeah, it will. There's some super bulky prototype models you can go buy from personal sellers that run you about 300 bucks and is basically an N64 just with a custom plastic molded case for handheld use. But I bet a hacked 3DS will be around much sooner than a phone with native N64 support... Hopefully, I'm wrong, but the best part is, doesn't matter if I am!

That shouldn't be too far off the horizon. There is a playstation 1 emulator already and graphics-wise they were very similar.

To the untrained eye the graphics of a PS1 and N64 may LOOK to be very similar. But there are WAY more factors involved other than how the graphics may appear to look from each system. An N64 emulator as I've read to believe requires almost 5 times the power of the hardware required to run a PS1 emulator. Possibly even MORE hardware power is required depending on the game you want to play (like games that used the expansion pack). The N64 portable emu (short of a modified N64) is a little further off than you may think... But I wouldn't be surprised if some betas spring up sometime this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if it booted on a phone. In fact, I'd be surprised if it didn't. What I was saying is that the framework is probably made specifically for tablet size displays. It'd probably be all broken on a small resolution.
Edit: If it did boot, you might be able to increase the software DPI but then everything would be super tiny and unusable as a day to day. Plus I don't know if the Adreno 200 GPU drivers would play nice with the new 2D/3D acceleration. So it might not work correctly or even boot on our EVOs.

You make some very good points. I did boot, within the emulator, to a 4.3 inch screen and it looked usable. Your point about the drivers is well taken though. That could be a big issue. Hopefully some enterprising dev will try to find out.
By the way...anyone know how to change the screen orientation in the emulator?

Update: Basically, Sony just dropped a bombshell that brought an amazing amount of games to Android, obviously to compete against both Windows Phone 7 having Xbox integration and against Apple's formidable App Store. How, UNLIKE Sony to be thinking ahead.

I'm sure we will get it, 2 years from now when the 2.3 update comes out... :/
This has the potential to be enormous for Android, and for handheld gaming in general. The only concerns I have are:
1) The number of handsets that will have access, and if Cyanogenmod will count among them.
2) Piracy. As rampant as it was on the PSP and NDS (and yes, it was rampant), there is no doubt pressure within SCEA to take more advanced measures in combatting it. Android isn't the most securable platform at the moment (see: Netflix), and though I too am weak to 'unlimited' trial periods on games (hah), for this to really drive Android, it NEEDS to be profitable.
Hopefully the cost of games will be more in line with existing digital downloads than with past off-the-shelf prices.
I think it's great the Sony is supporting Android to such a degree. But, the PSX emulator is already out in the market. It's been out for quite some time now. Some of the roms don't work though. Hopefully, with official Sony support, all of the roms will work.
I would buy an official psx emu straigh from sony than anyone made by a third party (I don't mean offense, I have the emulator and enjoy), even though I paid for one already. I'd even buy the games straight from the sony store if they're priced good enough

If you're being serious, I've actually put some thought into it. The echo is a good idea, and I really like it for it being the first of it's kind, but the hardware just isn't up to par at all for what it is supposed to be doing. A first gen snapdragon trying to run two programs at the same time would underachieve quite a bit. The two screen thing isn't gonna work (for me and a lot of people anyways) until they get a dual core (or even quad core) processor powering it, when they can make the device thinner, and when they can eliminate they strip in between the two screens when its open. And it would also help if the phone wasn't a kyocera
The Echo has more letters in its name.

LOL I know I have been one, if not the biggest critic of the Echo, but I think if done right, there is potential to a dual screen phone. Most likely it's because of the hype that lead to the event that people are so hard on it, but it might be cool or innovative after all.

If the Echo were announced this time last year, people would be going ape**** over it. I guess in 2011, we're too busy looking for dual core superphones with 2000 mAh batteries.
To be honest, I really wanted to like the Echo. As soon as I heard it had a first-generation Snapdragon, though, most of my hopes went out of the window. If only HTC would give the concept a shot.

Urrgh, still kinda pissed off about the failed execution though. If it had something like dual 4 inch screens, I'd be much more interested. As it stands, 3.5 is still too big a downgrade from my Evo's screen, even if the Echo has two of them.

Sarcasm is not easily conveyed in a forum post.
No but really..... they obviously had porn on their mind in the concept.
I know it's a joke, but:
- 2 screens = [approx.] 1/2 the battery life
- Very custom UI = much longer to put out major updates
- Kyocera
The fact they had to optimize several stock Android apps makes me think that there won't be much in the way of dual-screen support... Unless it's a REALLY well-polished app with next-to-no bugs on it, I don't see many developers trying to add support that could break a thousand more things with their apps.
Most apps will probably run similarly to how GBA games run on the DS and DS Lite (I know comparing the phone to the DS is getting overused, but it's the closest example I could think of). You'll probably be able to choose which screen you want used as the display, and that's the one that will be used for those apps without the support.

Epic 2 seems like it's simply an "updated" Epic that is targeted towards new users in the high end Android phone realm who want a keyboard that might hesitate at a year old phone. Doubt they had current Epic users in mind when they made the thing. Plus there are probably a few people that are sold by the "2" on it. To me, Epic -> Epic 2 is like moving from the old PS3/XBox360 to the new slimmer ones.

Yes, this was going to be my plan also, but now I'm seeing tweets about a GS3 quad core by Christmas. Now what? lol

Family plan and add more lines? LOL
How many threads will there be about this. Please use search next time. On topic I guess(so as not to be taken as a troll), Epic 2 is not worth it for us epic owners. Wait for the WiThin.
Sent from my Epic 4G, awaiting official Gingerbread.

i would grab it if it had a keyboard. i cant give it up man. touchscreen keybords drive me crazy regardless of how accurate some are. plus i gotta be able to use a game-gripper on it =P
Seems like the only difference is the 8mb camera and stock 1.2ghz, well, I already have 1.2ghz, GB, and could careless about the camera. I think I have the epic 1.5.

Im thinking this is a version of the infuse. Honestly I would have considered an epic 2 had it been 4.5 inches. Dual cores are a boner contests. Single cores run every just fine.

Yeah, if I didn't need a keyboard, I wouldn't have gotten the Epic in the first place.
Its not a bump like the Evo got, but its going to make a very ridiculously nice midrange phone. They will probably bump up the ram and give it gingerbread and give it a Super AMOLED+ screen, which easily puts it on a level playing field with any Tegra 2 phone on the market. There is no real need for dual core right now. For people with an original Epic, there is no need to upgrade to an Epic2 of course, but the Epic will remain a very capable and very high end phone at least until 2012.
My next upgrade will probably be a quad core phone sometime in early 2012. Nothing coming out now, not even the super sexy GSII is that big of an upgrade form the Epic. If Samsung could get us gingerbread soon and if we could get some AOSP or CM7 on here, there will be zero need to upgrade to anything else for a LONG time.
