I have this addition to the annals of Droid X strangeness...
I put a new sdhc card into the X last night - an A-Data 16 gb class 10 card. I copied over a bunch of the stuff from my old 8 gb card.
This morning I connect the usb cable to my main PC to copy over some photos to the new card. When I connected the cable, a Dennis Miller podcast (I had downloaded using BeyondPod) started playing. I didn't have the BeyondPod app running. Right now, every time I connect the usb cable, Dennis Miller starts playing!
This podcast is buried in the /beyondpod/podcasts/ folder. Any idea what's going on?
UPDATE: This looks like a bug with BeyondPod. Interestingly enough the problem is continuing even AFTER I uninstalled the program!
So, just to recap, with the new SD card, a podcast would start when I connected the usb cable to the computer - usb mass storage or charge. I finally uninstalled the BeyondPod app and the podcast still started when connecting the cable - so I deleted the BeyondPod folder that contained all of the podcasts. Now when I connect the usb cable I do get a brief ringing type sound, but no podcast.
What blows me away is that even with the BeyondPod app uninstalled, my Droid X was starting to play one of the podcasts when the usb cable was connected.
Does anyone have any idea why it would do that? I would like to reinstall the BeyondPod app but I'd like to get some understanding of what's going on first...
Thanks
Steve

... Wow HA HA HA HA HA HA... I'm terribly sorry and I know this post isn't informative, but I think that is the most interesting thing I have heard in awhile.
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been sitting here when it happened. It was surreal. I plugged in the usb cable and the beginning of the Dennis Miller show started playing - "Radio, a constantly changing art form. Marconi, Lakehurst New Jersey" etc. The podcast starts with the sound of an oldstyle radio being tuned in, so the effect was particularly strange. You had to be there...

Hey all, I just made the leap yesterday from my old trusty Dash to a G1. Only complaint I've had so far is I can't seem to get USB Mass Storage to work at my home pc. I suspect the issue has to do with a problem I've had with my USB circuits on my motherboard, basically USB 2.0 has to be disabled or I start having issues booting into Windows (all goes back to a power outage a year or so ago). The weird thing is it works fine via the Dash and WM5torage, works fine using my card reader, it's just when the G1 is hooked up directly it won't read the USB.
I've got it hooked up here at work and it does see it. The only other difference is the work pcs are still on XP SP2 while my home pc is on SP3. Just wondering if anyone has heard of any other issues like this? I've done a lot of google searching and nothing seems to quite be the same issue.
Thanks!
when you connect your G1 via USB, there will be an icon in the notification bar, swipe that down and tap "mount sd card".
this allows the USB to be used for mass storage.
i hope this helps.
nope, like I said, it works fine here at work, but at home it gives an error. First it says it doesn't recognize the device 'android' then it gives an error code 10, usb device failed to start (I will have to try it again when I get home this evening to make sure I have the number and wording right).
I'm quite comfortable in making sure I hit the notification bar and selecting mount.
sorry...i thought since you just jumped from your dash (i love my G1, but still miss my dash sometimes) that you may not have known about the mount/unmount part. i have 4 friends with the G1 and rather than read the instructions or try things themselves, they all turn to me to teach them how to do the most basic tasks. one of my buddies got his G1 in november and just asked me last week why he can't transfer pics from his PC to his G1...i had to walk him through connecting via usb and mounting his sd card...like i said, he's had the freaking phone for 6 months!!
good luck.
so yeah, apparently this is a *known* issue. For some reason the current firmware doesn't like USB2.0. Supposedly fixed in 1.5 so we'll see. For now I just set up andftp and filezilla on my pc so I don't have to bother with digging out my microsd reader all the time hehe
ya, i run into a similar issue. just rooted my phone today, it was tough, n i think i probably messed up too many times on the apps to SD part, that my sd card might have been damaged. it works, but when i link usb to computer, it won't recognize it. i have to use a card reader, very annoying. hope some1 could help! thanks!
My boys got a new tv off Father Christmas and after setting up I realised as well as having a card reader it has a usb port so on a whim I plugged the HD2 in, put it in disk drive mode and the tv let me play the divx, JPG and mp3s right off it. I wonder what else you can plug and play into, I have it in my BT homehub now and I am going to see if I can interrogate it.

Like you said yourself - it's in disk drive mode. It's just like a usb drive.
I have a usb connection on my car music system, the idea is to play toons via a memory stick as opposed to cd. it recognises wmv and mp3. so, my question is, if i can get hold of a lead with a 3.5 jack on one end and a usb plug on the other, will i be able to play the music on my HD2 on my car system via the usb socket on the car player?
Mike
is not possible.
USB cable handles digital files (bit), your car recognizes the pendrive as hd2.
the jacks 3.5 is a analogic audio, you should connect it to aux to play the car radio and HD2.
therefore there is no possibility of having a USB / jack 3.5
excuse my English, is a google translation
thanks for your quick reply
its a shame it wont work as it seemed a quick fix.
am i right then in guessing that a lead from 3.5 on the phone to the aux socket would work?
Mike
Well, what I dont understand is:
Why go so far ?
I would guess that the music on the HD2 is stored on your memory card, and not on the device itself.
So - Just connect the HD2 with it's usb cable to the car USB port (where you connect the disk-on key thingie), and select "DiskDrive" mode on the HD2.
It should work just the same.
Enjoy
(And - report back)
Another thing - if your car has a USB port, I would guess it has a 3.5 port (AUX) input.
Try connecting the HD2 3.5 port to the car's 3.5 port (the 3.5 to 3.5 male-male cable is not expensive)
ok, usb does not work. you do get the option of active synch or data when connection but neither allow you to access music.
have ordered a male to male 3.5 jack lead to try that connection cos the car sound system has a 3.5 out and says that it is iphone ready.
fingers crossed and will report back either way.
Mike
well, I tried it with my car.
I copied an mp3 to the storage card (to the root folder of the card) and connected the hd2 to the car's usb port.
When the hd2 asked I selected "Disk Drive" and the car read and played the file.

thats interesting, i didnt think of putting a toon into the root folder. all my music is in albums in the music folder on the card. guess this is why it couldnt see it.
having the music as separate tunes in the root not as albums wont work for me but may for some, which is great.
still waiting for my 3.5 to 3.5 male cable and will report back when it arrives. as the music ctr in the car is ipod enabled my hope is that i will be able to select album and tune via the phone and it will play through the cars system.
either way its another great use of the HD2

I have all my audio in folders, many 2 or 3 folders deep, and the HD2 plays them on my car stereo with no problem.
Technically, when you choose Storage mode for USB, it emulates a USB-ATAPI device. Generally, these USB MP3 players require you to insert a standard USB-ATAPI device that is formated in FAT16 or FAT32. Some USB MP3 players support other file systems as well.
Honestly, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

what connection are you using?
Mike
happy to say the normal usb lead from phone to music system works fine. as has been previously said, simply choose the storage/data option.
stating with a bit of a blush here, i was not patient enough for the system to find the music on the storage card so assumed it was not working.
yay, can listen to me toons now. what a great phone this is.
Mike
For future reference for anyone. Use the FM TRANSMITTER.
Weird, i just connect my phone with the USB cable and chose disc drive and the car stereo finds all my music thats on the phone.
EDIT: Aha, you've got it to work now
What's good XDA fam! I was trying to transfer some pics from my old sd card off my G1 and when I plugged the mini usb cable from the macbook to the Vibrabnt it wont recognize the phone after mounting it. Any Mac users out there having a problem?
had the same problem seems the only way to get around it so far is to turn on USB debugging (on your Vibrant) Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging hope this helps
Yep. USB-debug is the only way to do it so far, brother-man. As a Mac user, it's frustrating and annoying. Syncing solutions just aren't there, yet. So you gotta live like it's 1997, and drag files back and forth.
Hopefully, something nice pops up (or DoubleTwist sees a massive overhaul).
Still Not Getting it
Hello everyone new user. Just got my Samsung Vibrant in the mail today and finally got it to recognize on my Mac after reading this post. I created a Music folder and proceeded to add music to it directly from itunes, which worked fine until after i put 20 or so songs it said that i didn't have the space required. Any suggestions/ideas? P.S My version of Avatar says the version is expired, not a big deal but still would like to show off my new high resolution screen.

Dunno from avatar but there are 2 sd mounts listed. One is the built-in 16 gig and the other is the removable. Make sure you are using the right one...
I am so confused as to all of this and I am new to android and this is what happened with me
The story annoyed so much it took me 3 hard reset until I figured out the source of my problem
My story began when i noticed how poorly my note sounds on my car stereo using a 3.5mm cable so I decided to plug into the car stereo via usb as that will enhance the playing music on my stereo via usb cable.
Anyhow I bought the titantium pro from the market and ran the batch that moves all user app to sd and once I do that I noticed that my car stereo does not recgonize the gnote as a storage device and also I noticed the phone truns off once I unplug the usb cable.
So when i used I thought about moving all apps back to internal memory via titanium and my problem was solved.
Can someone shed some light on why this is happening and how to solve it, as I would like to be able to move my apps to sd card via titanium without affecting the phone's connection via usb
