Cross Carrier - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I put the sim from my tmobile htc glacier in n e android carrier phone as long as its rooted? Like the Thunderbolt for example
HTC Glacier, cm7/Ice Glacier, 1.6ghz, 16gsd, 2300 Quadrant, Rooted Splash, Nexus 1 boot

I didn't think Verizon used sim cards, could be wrong, but they use a different network so I doubt it's possible. Should be possible with something like the atrix though.

Cant put it in the tbolt. It has a sim for 4g lte only. It is still a CDMA phone.

Basically just T-Mobile and att phones but data probpy will be slow

Not necesarily android, and also it must be unlocked, not just rooted (assuming it IS an android)
Yes, verizon sim cards are only for LTE data, and if you put it in ATT you will only get EDGE because of different 3g bands. Just clarifying all the I thinks and maybes.

Sure, if you want to install an LTE chip, SIM card reader, and then integrate firmware, software, and drivers.
Our phones are lacking the hardware to be compatible with LTE, unfortunately :/.

Without the pricing for the 4g plan on phones it might not be worth it. Also have to be near a tower.
4g mifi card?

What ROMs are tweaked for network data speed?

I know that it has already been asked but I just wanted some more feedback before I flash a ROM.
I'm running the Froyo Faux O/C Kernel on stock ROM and I updated the radio.
Are there any ROMs out right now that will give me faster network speeds? Also is possible to flash an AT&T radio IMG or some other way to use the data connection. I only have Edge at my house.

ATT and TMobile use completely different bands on their 3G network....you cant just throw an att radio and get the 3G...the hardware doesnt support it

What radio are you using and can you give the link
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I can fix your problem with only having edge... Get t-mobile.. At&t sucks ass at least here they do...
I'm using a radio from the HTC Glacier Radios post. 26.08.04.30.
I do have t-mobile but only get the edge network. AT&T has better data speeds where I live.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
really... Hmm well I guess at&t does have service... are you sure t-mobile has 4g service in your area
T-mobile only has edge in my area. If t-mobile's hardware doesn't support AT&Ts radio band then why do we have the option to sim unlock and use AT&T

Unlimited web on at&ts $50 prepaid plan

I was told that you get unlimited data on this plan.Does anyone know if this is correct.

Not for smartphones. Requires an over price data plan. I think its like $25 bux for one gig.

Ditto. They can cut you off if you go over a certain amount (most people say around 2-3GB a month), but so far I've used around that amount and been good. I know some people who have gone way over (5GB) and been fine too. If you use them, don't fill in the proxy fields in the APN, just the MMS proxy stuff. If you stream constantly, this service is not for you. However for anything else it's great. And you get real AT&T speeds (I've personally gotten up to 5 Mbps in some areas).

Yup ive used 2gb and been fine, and have also heard of people going over 5gb and been fine. But id say 2gb would be the safe zone, which is probably plenty for most. Just use wifi whenever you can
my sim will be coming soon and since im gonna be using a pre 2 i dont think data limits are anything to worry about. i just want stable reliable signal where I can text and get calls reliably from a certain area sprint doesnt cut it but ATT does. my question is i am a part time promotor for clubs so i send out a crap load of texts (on sprint i saw my amount and it was around 22000 lol)
if i decide to make this my main phone i will be consuming that much.....phone calls arent an issue i mainly talk only to my gf for long periods of time at night lol
will i be kicked off for this usage?
Hey if I only wanted 5-10 of data a month with no minutes or texts is that possible?and if it is how much would I be looking at for just 5 Gb of 4G data a month.I have a unlocked HTC sensation 4G a t-mobile smartphone.so do I order a sim card from straight talk?how much is a sim card?can I call and order a sim card and activate the sim for just monthly data?I would appreciate it if someone would please explain my qwestions. Thanks...

Texts don't really use data so you would be fine. Data use would be like Pandora.

You could get your cellphone activated on Clearwireless if it's available in your area. It works on HTC EVO, and I think it would on sensation... Just google "activate htc evo on clearwireless" to get on the right path... Good luck!

The Evo is a cdma device and the Sensation is a gsm device. They are not compatible. Clearwireless is a cdma provider (mvno).

I don't think GSM/CDMA matters in terms of 4G connection, rather Wimax/ lTE... does

Yes, it does. GSM SIMs and (for example) the SIMs used by Verizon (I don't, know if, Sprint has switched to a SIM based system for their up and coming LTE network) would not be compatible. You CANNOT USE A device like the Sensation on a CDMA network, period.

Sprint uses "integrated SIMs" for their LTE phones, which basically means they still use the same MEID/ESN system. Identical to the old 3G/WiMax system. And yes, you're correct. You can't use a GSM phone on a CDMA network period. You can, however take a hybrid GSM/CDMA phone (like a Droid 2 Global) and get it to work on GSM networks by hacking the radio not to ignore domestic networks like AT&T and T-Mobile.

Are there any I-wireless smartphones with J.b. 4.1

Does anyone know if I-wireless has any smartphones that have or will be getting the J.b. 4.1 aosp or sense version update or if there's any custom roms on xda for any of the I-wireless smartphones. If there is could you please list the names, model of phone or phones. Thanks in advance!!!

Any Sprint phone should work in theory.
So I could get any sprint smartphone and root & rom it and install J.b. on it.and also I-wireless service should work to operate the phone such as talk, text & web correct?

Call I-wireless and see. Just say you wanna bring on your own phone and see what phones you can put on their service.
iwireless partners with T-Mobile, not Sprint. iwireless is a GSM carrier, so DO NOT put a Sprint load on an iwireless phone. I too am waiting/looking for a 4.1 update on my iwireless Galaxy Nexus, which brought me here.

Sprint may be partners, but that doesn't mean sprint branded phones will work on iwireless. T-mobile may work, because they are affiliates. (T-mobile owns iWireless)
You could always shop around for an unlocked GSM phone. By buying an unlocked/international phone you are able to jump to any carrier with a GSM network and sim card setup. Even though the phone may cost more, it is well worth it. (it also retains its value much better for resale) I am using a international factory unlocked Galaxy SIII on iWireless with no problems.
I recently dropped AT&T to go with iwireless pay-in-advance, went from $102 a month for 450 minutes, unlm messaging, 3gb data to $57 for unlimited everything. Now, hopefully iwireless jumps on getting their hspa+ (3G/3.5G) towers up so I can fully enjoy the service instead of having edge all the time.
So if you were still looking I would check ebay if you want brand new sealed in box, and another site called swappa for used phones. I've personally used swappa, it is a buy/sell/trade for used android phones. A few friends also used swappa and I would recommend the site to anyone. If I'm not mistaken they also have something to do with the CyanogenMod community. HERE is a link.
Let me set the record straight.
i wireless is a T-Mobile affiliate.
HOWEVER,
i-wireless is another affiliate, but of Sprint.
They are two different companies.

[Q] In Europe with rooted MT4G

I've moved to Europe with rooted MyTouch 4G.

As long as you have a GSM compatible network's SIM inside the phone it should work, providing that it's unlocked.
Getting the right SIM can be tricky. Make sure you compare the one you get to one that works.
