[Q] Anyone tried superoneclick - Xperia Play General

Has anyone tried SuperOneClick or any other rooting methods on there xperia play?
How come this phone hasn't been rooted yet?

I've read in another topic people were reporting it wasn't working, probably because the new android has a new protection but I'm not sure about these things.

The Nexus S uses the same version of android.

While that might be true for the Version of Android, that doesn't mean previous bugs aren't fixed. Also, I don't think Super One click works with the Nexus S, as the only way to root it currently is to unlock the bootloader (which it allows you to do).
I tried rooting the Play with Super One Click and z4root, no success in both cases.

Moved to General, and closing thread...there is already a thread on this topic topic ---->HERE<----

Do I need to root to flash the Hero Rom?

I was watching a YouTube vid and someone said that you do not need to root the Magic in order to put the Hero Rom on the phone.
I just got my unlocked (AT&T) Rogers Magic and I was wondering if this is indeed correct?
I wonder that to, please someone give us an answer

It is my understanding that it is the rom that is rooted. Not the device.
So if you flash a Hero rom that has been rooted then you will have root. If you flash a rom (such as the original you should have backed up will nandroid) that hasn't been rooted then you will not have root.
Hope that helps
P.s some one correct me if I am wrong, that is how it has worked for me.
A better question would be why wouldn't you want to root? No, really. If your going through the trouble of flashing why not root? If you don't you can't get paid apps on the Rogers Magic, not sure on other brands but the Rogers phone does not allow paid apps stock. I had to root and install market enabler to buy apps. It just makes sense if our going that far anyway.

Good point. I went ahead and attempted to root, but at the point where I'm at fastboot mode and "fastboot boot recovery.img" instead of just saying "downloading" it just says "waiting for device". Any thoughts about what that means? The update.zip is on my sd card and the image is in my tools directory.
Are you sure your usb drivers installed properly? What OS are you running? If it's XP some people have had trouble getting the drivers to play nice, I didn't have any problems but some have. Here's the guide I used, about as easy as it gets. Just make sure the first steps work before moving on is about all i can say I'm brand new to this as well. Hope that helps you some.

Newb question
Hi.
I'm winmo user. Planning to buy HTC Magic next week. So i'm now advance reading topics about Android, HTC Magic in particular.
My questions are, 1) what is ROOT? and 2) how to install apps? I've seen files with .apk extension.
Thanks in advance.

Rooting is pretty much the equivalent of "jailbreaking" an ipod touch. It alows you to gain access that wouldn't otherwise be available from the vanilla google os. (ie tethering, running and storing apps from sd card, moving various caches from the browser and other apps to the sd to save space...etc)
What do you mean about installing apps? There is an app store the "android market" where you can search from many apps and just seamlessly install them to your phone (or sd card if you root).

How to root AT&T nexus one

Can I use the normal root procedure/how-to for the Tmobile Nexus one for my new AT&T nexus one? What is the best how-to?

bump, can the original T-mobile procedure be done on the NEW ATT nexus? or does a new method have to come out?
Have you tried the link in this post? Duh. Best thing I've ever read
That being said is this, try unlocking the bootloader first and go from there. There is no way that could brick you're device.
...
Seems to work the same
Yes - I just bought an AT&T Nexus One and was able to unlock the bootloader, install Amon_RA's recovery image, and then flash Cyanogen's 5.0.5 ROM the same way in which I did with my T-Mobile Nexus One.

Sometimes a little common sense goes a long way.
The ATT version Google Nexus One uses the same OS, so no there is no difference in rooting the phone with the existing guides. The difference is the hardware that allows to operate on the ATT UMTS frequencies.
I used the same instructions as are posted here at XDA and MoDaCo with my new ATT 3G Nexus One and had no problems.
Rooting and changing the rom had no impact on the 3G reception which is on par with my current Tilt 2.
BTW, I did read a lot and it took me a while to get everything straigh since the rooting procedure is quiet different than what you would expect from HARDSPL'ing your WinMo device.

Simple questions require simple answers
Thanks. I agree with couple of the previous posts. This is an almost $600 piece of hardware and the unlocking procedures were described for the Tmobile version. Since the hardware is different (the radio rom might be different as well), we just wanted to know whether we could use the guide for the tmobile version for the at&t version without bricking the phone. That was it. And, again a "yes" or "no" would've been a lot easier than posting a google search link. Anyhow, thanks to others who actually answered the question.

Rooting doesn't TOUCH the "Radio ROM", as you call it. More importantly, if all you wanted was a yes or no, YOU COULD HAVE POSTED IN AN EXISTING ROOTING THREAD!
Stop cluttering up the forum and ask a Mod to lock this thread already.
Just for reference, the upcoming Sprint/Verizon versions will be rooted the exact same way.
ITT: People who have NO business rooting a phone, are.
See the problem is the question was answered. You can't say you "Read around alot...." and not accept that a simple google search would have found the answer without the need to start a new forum. Another problem is, you prob actually clicked the link before realizing what it was. If you did, you really should NOT have a rooted phone anyways. Just my two sense, sorry for being an "asshole" I suppose....
The real problem is that there are too many mod wanabees in this forum.

How the root exploit (rageagainstthecage.bin) works

I was curious about how the root exploit that unlocks our phones for all this great dev stuff works. Found this explanation, and it was quite good. For those with sufficient unix/linux knowlege, this will be totally understandable, so I'd recommend following the link, and reading the in-depth explanation, complete with C code. For those with less background in this stuff, it's still worth a read, but you'll have to work harder to understand exactly what's going on.
Post any questions in this thread, and I'll be happy to answer them!
This is a good explanation, I read something similar when rage was released, may hve even been this. But I'm pretty versed with linux and am overly versed in C...to the point where I have nightmares....

Hi and sorry for the bump guys,
Does anybody know how to do the rageagainstthecage root with an LG Optimus One P503? I have tried everything - Simple Root, SuperOneClick, VISIONary, z4root, nothing is working! I really need this root because my phone did not come with Android market and I want to install it through ADB, and I think that requires a root correct? Even if I can't root my phone, is there any way to install an apk to my phone's internal storage and not my SD card?
Thanks for reading this!
By rooting lol
I know for the opimus s you have to force a flash of an older software for z4 to root.

no you dont need to root to install thru adb. just open up command/terminal,
adb install /blah/blah/phoneapphere.apk
alternatively you can put it on your sd card and use a file manager to locate the apk and install it on the phone.. for a nice easy root, use gingerbreak its the latest un patched exploit.. theres an apk version on xda it will root your phone no issues

What would be the best way to root this phone?
[HTC Sense, 2.2 Froyo, CDMA/GSM, Qwerty kb - it's main backbone i guess.]

Yes but thats why hes asking if it can be used for the other phone. Specs wise, both phones are almost the same internally.

specs don't really dictate which exploit will work on a device though.
If the bootloader is locked on the HTC, there's going to be a different workaround to root it.

A Root Exploit Idea

Now I have never actually created an exploit for rooting a device, but I had an idea about one, as I have a general gist about it. I don't know if this is what RazorClaw did, but surely something can be done with Asus App Backup? Seeing as it has read and write access to apps, is there the potential to add a backup that will install root in some way?

First of all, RazorClaw is the only option for SBKv2, and it was fixed in the latest update.
To the OP:
RazorClaw was used to invoke root user access, then remount /system as rw, and add Superuser, plus the matching su binary.

I would say it is pretty likely that Asus will continue to close root exploits as they are discovered. Especially so for ones that can be done via an installed app, as malicious apps can (and have in the past) make use of this with ill intent
That's fine, as I am sure I wouldn't update as quickly next time. I only did because it was on 3.1 and I had just got it and noticed huge lag on keyboard and device. Wanted to make sure it was updated, but didn't realise it was an Apple style mouse game of closing exploits!

1, You don't have to be rude
2, I haven't noticed that thread until I sent my message, and I saw after that it was there.
3, It's simply logic. If the user knows RazorClaw, and won't use it, it means the user have tried it already and it didn't work, so he wanted to find another hole.

[Q] ROOTING of Vision (Desire Z) 2.3.3 Not Possible

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can figure out, there is no way of rooting the 2.3.3 version of the Desire Z?
All guides start with downgrade to exploidable firmware, and that is not possible without gaining at least temporary root access, and all previous methods are broken?
Anyone has any ideas that work?

Of course it is! Don't you think there would be alot more angry people lol?! You have to obtain temp root on GB then downgrade to Froyo and get S-Off. It's a pain but I just did it on my friend's Evo Shift last month.
Thank you for answering I have spend several hours, and I can't get any of the temporary root solutions to function, they all seem to be ineffective against the current version?
Follow the XDA Vision wiki method. Shouldn't have any problems. I know someone that just did it last week and worked.

Can you go into more details? Like error code or anything? Are you sure you have adb set up properly? plus, drivers too?
If you can't get fre3vo to work (the only step which might not work, every other step is gauranteed to) use a different exploit, either zergRush or tacoroot will work.

I just wanted to ask, you say it is possible to root the 2.3.3. and you also said how. Actually I spent like 3 hours today by looking for the guides how to root this phone, and I am really scared to do it without previous asking.
all your responses were great, but I am really a newbie to these things, and those names you said (containing techniques how to root) didnt ring a bell in my head. Could you please just send me a link with a guide that will work?

I rooted and modded two G2 using this method and all went flawless, I read about ADB and how to use it, I read the guide several times to understand what was going to happen.
Read read read and then root and mod. The phones that I rooted were my first and second ever, I am NOT a dev nor am I an expert by any means. My point is that again if you read the entire post before trying anything then you will be successful. My phones were both on 2.3.3 and the process is not an easy one but works well. Hats off to those who took the time and effort to write the guide.

Thank you for your answer. In any of the threads somebody mentioned the CM´s rooting guide on wiki, I checked it out and I got the idea.
which one would you prefer? the one posted above or the CM´s?
The CM wiki is based off that xda thread.
I would recommend the xda one, as it includes flashgc (for goldcard generation), which the cm wiki doesn't.

I have a friend that just bought an HTC Vision(G2) with 2.3.4 and he has been unable to downgrade using xda or wiki. He thinks 2.3.4 is incompatible with these methods. He is familiar with adb and previously owned a Nexus One. Anyone know if his opinion is wrong?
These methods do work.
If for some weird reason fre3vo doesn't feel like working, you can use zergRush or tacoroot to gain temp-root (which I linked in a previous post in this thread)
-Nipqer
Adb can seem scary/difficult to setup to some, but it's not at all. Adb being a tool used in the rooting/unlocking process. See my signature for a link to a guide on setting up adb.
Please stay away from any so-called one-click rooting/unlocking solutions (especially Visionary), because a lot of them don't work, and some carry a high risk of bricking your phone. There is absolutely no risk of bricking your phone if you carefully follow the XDA Wiki guide. Read it first, and feel free to ask questions if you're not sure about something.

It can be done and quite easily (took a while but it was very smooth). I did it on my friend's EVO Shift recently with 2.3.4 which is very close to our devices (an uglier cousin one might say lol). Sometimes if you get stuck, it helps to take a break. Also, don't over complicate things. Commands while using adb have to be precise. I suggest using copy and paste. Also double check you commands before hitting enter. I am quite sure 2.3.4 still works with frevo. Maybe his drivers are mixed up. That's usually what it is. Make sure you can get all your functions to work before rooting like usb tethering and whatnot.
