Generic App icons after reboot for apps on SD - G2 and Desire Z General

I just noticed this...
First the preliminaries:
T-mobile G2 rooted stock Froyo ROM & baconbits kernel. (though this preceeds the kernel change) OC'd to 1.1GHz.
After a reboot, any applications that are on my SD card get a generic app icon and not their real one. If I remove and readd the app to the home screen, all is golden until the next reboot.
Has anyone else seen this?

[Q] So what is the best Option for booting on my nook?

I rooted my nook when I got it. I can read books, and can install games, apps etc. And it has the market.
Am I missing out on not loading something like the CM7 or some other ROM?
Will we see the nook running a fully working version of HC?
If you want to try CM7 (or anything else), make a bootable SDcard. There are instructions around, and although it might not perform as well as if it were internally installed, it's an instantly-reversible way to give ROMs a shot.
I like the dual boot myself.
Once you set up 1.2 the way you like it, I recommend setting up dual boot with stock on one partition and CM7 on the second. Then you can still use the stock reader and you can easily overclock and update CM7 while realizing the nooks true potential. Just move stock to the second partition and put Cm7 on the first boot position so that you can easily flash updates.
Dual Boot is an option. Have read of (rare) issues with futzing the partition table so, for test drive purposes, loading CM7 via SD as chinly suggested might be prudent at least at first....
Hey for any newbies out there when you perm. Root your phone and add a custom rom to it and later you feel like changeing your rom to a different one (like switching from gingervillan1.5 to cyanogenmod 7 witch I think is better) all you have to do is put the new rom file (probly zip) go in to recovery mode on your phone if you wanna back it up first the do a wipe to factory and wipe cahe the instal your new rom from your sd card reboot your phone and you should be golden!!
With cyanogenmod 7 you need something new called google addons that I don't have the link for @ the moment but you can find it on these blogs.
All you need to do is add the GAPPS file (witch is the google add ons in a zip) to your memory card and instal it from recovery mode..on my HTC G2 it took a while to get all the google apps on it but after it synced with my T-Mobile network and after a couple of reboots it started to work just fine
If anyone else has anything else to add feel free to for any newbies out there!!
All of these was based on my personal experience.

If you want BlueTooth, a 1.3 GHz overclock kernel, and very smooth video playback then you should give CM7 a try. If, however, you're using the nook for kids books and magazines, you're pretty much stuck using the stock B&N image... however you could always load up CM7 to an SD card and boot that to your hearts content.

Liberty v.5 problem

anyone else having issues running the liberty customizer on liberty v.5 for gingerbread? I download the 100 files, and then it runs a setup screen for ever and never loads. I let it sit for a couple of hours. Suggestions?
Charging issues, myself. Stuck at 60%, wont charge any more.
Apparently,(and what worked for me) you have to go into the SD card and delete the zip and folder and redownload. Doesn't allow me to add quick contacts still though.

delete the zip and folder for the liberty rom?
You go to your SD card and find liberty-customizer.zip and the liberty-customizer folder. Delete both of those and redownload the customizer. Its due to a possible faulty download on 3G, from what I've gathered.

It worked! Thanks everyone!

Liberty question

I installed Liberty3, v2.0 Gold on my D2 today.
I downloaded the zip from here: teamgummy.com/downloads?did=17 and installed using ClockworkMod Bootstrap Recovery.
The install went easily, but when I go into Settings -> Liberty Settings, the Mod version says v1.0
Anyone know what gives? The zipfile is called Liberty3D2-2.0Gold.zip
Seems like it should be the right file.
I've been using the same Rom, I absolutley love Liberty. From what I can tell, as long as you can change your lockscreen to Honeycomb & all the other options, you are running 2.0. It might just be small text things the developer forgot to change.

Yep, happens to me also.
You're not really losing the app, just the icon for the link.
Remove the link and replace with the link from the application list.
It's a PITA, I know, but it works.
Still no go. That is my app drawer, I just make folders to organize.

Try clearing your ram.
When Google talk changed to hangouts my s3 kept the shading for talk but clearing ram fixed it
In case you don't know how
Hold home button> bottom left button> press the ram tab> click clear memory

When this happens, check to see if your SD card is mounted ok or not. (launch your explorer app - ES explorer or MyFiles or whatever app you use to browse files) - and navigate to your SD card to see if you can access the files on it.
(or go to settings/storage/scroll-to-bottom and see if card is mounted)
I have a similar issue happen at start up. The icons are greyed out, but I can still access the application. What gets me is not every app moved to the SD card gets the greyed out icon. It doesn't seem to affect the performance, other than visually for me. The icons have been coming back at varying times, usually if I install a new app, or do some other moving around of things. Unmounting and mounting the card does not seem to have any affect on the icons.
I am new to android, but I figure as long as I can still use the app, it really doesn't bother me too much if the icon doesn't look flashy. I pretty much know where the shortcuts to them are, anyway.

I thought I tried this already, but after two reboots, the icons still seem to be showing the right way again. Cool beans.
No problems with sd card. Mounted fine and can access items with es file explorer. Would it have to do anything with my rom or kernel? Remember I have 64 gb SanDisk. Root stock mf9 with ktoonsez kernel.

So I was having the same problem and looking for an answer as well.... Don't know if you tried this but this is what I ended up doing. I'll assume you are on a third party ROM as well as kernel as I was. Well I simply went back to the stock ROM and kernel to fix the problem. Now on reboots there is on occasion my app icons will be grayed out but once the system scans/recognizes the sd-card they usually appear.
At this point I'm not sure if it is the ROM or the kernel, but I have a feeling it is the ROM because I seem to remember running the stock kernel and third party ROM when this started to happen and tried fixing it with a third party kernel.
Hope this helps.
BTW I'm also using a 64GB SanDisk sd
OP is on stock rom. I have the same setup and problem, stock rooted MF9 with ktoonsez and only program that this is happening is Homerun Battle 2. I had to reinstall and quickly move it to internal storage and it stayed after that.

Don't think OP mentioned which ROM, but it is definitely the kernel. Flashed 3rd party ROM with stock kernel and no problems after reboot. Flashed a ROM that included a version of the KT kernel and lost the apps. Went back to stock kernel, reinstalled the apps and redid the move and no more lost apps.

I do agree with you. It looks to be kernel related, not rom related.

I have the exact same problem on MJ7. Apps moved to SD card are grayed out (not all of the moved apps), but they still work.
looking for a fix.

Clean rom with all 7 ciq frozen

So I've had cleanrom for a while now... Just the att 1.1 version mind you. I had all the 7 ciq things turned off via system tuner.
I downloaded carrieriq spy and this is what I saw... I renamed the files to .bak but the app still registers it.
My question is... Should I delete these 2 files that I renamed or are they in some way needed?
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Your phone will not boot if you delete those.
The CIQ is pretty embedded in the stock rom. Freezing the processes will still cause them to show up in apps that check for CIQ but they should not be running or causing you issues having them there if they are frozen
