[Q] wont power on after rebooting into recovery - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need some help. Im not root-clueless as I have been on the rooting side of things since the G1. I was doing a very basic Rom Manager update from the Cyan7 Nightly and clicked on the install button after it finished downloading. It powered down instead and now it wont power back on at all. It been charging over night and had 83% battery when i attempted this. I am at a complete lost on what to do from here. Can someone please help?

Unplug it and pull the battery. Leave it sit with no power and no battery for a half hour. Then put battery back in and try.
Sounds like dell tech support... but it has worked many many times.

Bricked Aria

After I flashed CM7 successfully, I continued to install the google apps package but it froze. So I decided to pull the battery out. Wrong move, as It will not turn on at all now. I tried turning it on with and without the battery in, using the charger, but to no prevail. Any incite? I am about to cry.
Go here: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#liberatedAria
All the developers are in there chatting. They are really helpful. I always go there and have that chat open while I flash. Hopefully they can help you.
I second that they have always been there to help when I needed it, especially in desperate situations

what if you have the battery in and plug it in to wall charger (i.e. plug it in but don't push power button or anything, just simply plug it in.) -- does it boot to clockwork?

I tried that, It does not boot at all. Thanks for suggesting though
Did you try holding the three buttons?(trackball, volume down and power)

Once when I was trying to customize my Aria, I started remove apps from the rom I was using. I ended up getting stuck in bootup. What I was told by one of the devs in the chatroom is that as long as you can get into Clockwork, then you haven't bricked your phone.
So go into the chatroom and see if they can help you get into Clockwork.

officially bricked

I tried to load up the new gingerbread roms from my current one. I downloaded its content and tried to install it via clockwork.
I first deleted system, logo, and cache followed up by a restore format. When trying to download the new rom, I was getting a weird error that was stopping me from completing the full installation. So basically was in a chokehold because I didn't have any backup files or another working rom in the sd at that time. I just restarted the phone and it for a few times was stuck on the M screen, but now its just green led when I plug it into the computer usb. When plugging it into the outlet, it imediately turns on stuck on the M screen and shuts off when unplugging as if the battery isnt charging at all.
Sounds like ur going to have to sbf.

bootloader is such a rare occurance for me, i just had it come out but it was flashing low battery. the thing is, im not quite sure if its charging if i have it plugged into the computer. when i have it plugged into an outlet, the M splash screen comes up so i'm worried that draining the power..
edit: now it flickers for a split second, am i supposed to hold on to it til something shows up? been like 1 minute
i dont think bricking phone blows your battery. at least i hope it doesnt, was working fine before.
Plug it in without the battery if a question mark comes up you ned to use another battery cuz it won't charge in boot loader and the boot loader should pop up right away hold power volume down and camera button it takes about three seconds
swyped from my DROIDX using XDA App
well its basically the same thing. when plug into the outlet it shows the m splash screen with or without the battery.
when its plugged into the compuiter however, its just flickers once. when it is done with the battery in, the led is on forever
EDIT: OBSERVATION
when on the wall, it is actually charging, but REALLY slowly because of the fact that the splash screen stays on. found this out because i had it in for30 min and then tried to connect mit to my comp with bootload and it loaded for a few minutes with the low battery flashing.
is version 320 the latest?
Okay. so it isnt charging as I though because its not working at all... problem is, I dont know if it truly is a battery defect. If I were to Buy a new battery, how would i know if it is charging if it doesnt boot and just stays stuck on the M logo screen?
perhaps I should by a battery charger where i take the battery out and charge it through there? because my bootloader always gives me the same low battery.
Do you have any friends with the same phone? There is also a macgyver (spelling?) Method of doing this by cutting the USB cable open and attaching the cable ends to the battery. However I would only do this if you're really desperate
i just really need make complete sure that this phone is INFACT dead battery
when not plug, it doesnt turn on what so ever with a white spark on the led.
when plugged nto outlet the logo shows but i isnt charging because it isnt booting
when plugged into the computer it is a solid green which i think represent a dead or a low battery state(can someone back thisup?)
Your battery is dead, as in drained, but should work fine once you get your phone to a bootable state again. The problem is that, in the state your phone is in, there's no charging capabilities. Bootloader won't do it, neither will sitting at the M logo. So, you just need to find someone with a compatible battery to let you use it to SBF your phone. Then, boot the phone up completely, and let your battery charge to at least 50-60% before trying to install a ROM. Preferably, I'd go with a full charge, just in case you end up in a similar situation again.
This is nothing to freak out over, you'll be fine.. the only problem you have is that your battery has no juice, as confirmed by the low battery warning in the bootloader, when you successfully got it to load.

thanks for the reassuring comment, however, i think i need to bootload.
i accidently did the partition hat formats everything.. cant recall if it was under clockwork because it didnt have the same interface, i was all light blue text with an ok button on the left corner. Anyway, i've completely destroyed the phone as in no roms no factory.
can I possibly get a dock to charge this battery and then get into bootloader for an sbf session
? Even if I did have battery, im pretty sure i just hover at the logo screen

You definitely need to use the bootloader, and I was implying that in the first reply(SBF'ing requires going into the bootloader). If you had a stand-alone battery charging cradle/dock, that should do the trick. Just make sure to let the battery charge sufficiently. I've successfully gotten an SBF completed, starting with only 30% battery. SBF takes about 7 minutes on my laptop(not that I've timed it, but I usually light up a smoke when I start the process lol). So, as long as the battery is charged enough to no longer give the "Low Battery" warning in the bootloader, you should be fine.
You got your usb cable and put the ends where the battery goes that's how I got mine working try it

Not recognizing battery

So after a long fiasco of installing an old GB leak before installing the latest version, to running into force close loops and freezing at the M logo. So finally i reflashed everything and rebooted and bam! i finally got 596 to work. But i noticed that my battery logo had a question mark and that it basically wasn't recognizing my battery. I thought maybe a simple reboot will fix it, went in cwm and flashed the 596 deodexer and rebooted. Got into the lock screen when i noticed it immediately said Connect Charger. When i unlocked the screen after about 10 seconds it went black and my phone wouldn't turn on. If i connect it to pc the led flashes blue for a second meaning the battery is dead but with the battery not being recognized it cannot charge. If i connect it to a wall charger it loads up the M logo and goes to the battery charging screen, when you completely drain your phone and need to wait til its 5% to turn on, but again has a question mark in it. I don't have any external chargers either. Whats my best course of action? Do i have to go out and buy a new battery...? All helps appreciated.
im very sorry about bumping my thread.., but my phones just sitting here useless and its very aggravating and extremely inconvenient so once again, any and all help is appreciated please gentlemen(ladies).
If you can boot even for a second, boot into clockwork recovery and find the option to wipe battery stats. I would try that.
Also, even with a charge, booting while plugged into AC causes it to show the charging screen. Unplug it, turn on your phone, and in the middle of booting THEN plug it in.

Thank you for the reply, ill try wiping the batter stats asap might have to end up ghetto rigging a charge into it. Ive heard that car chargers/external chargers will still charge it, is this correct? I would love to try your second idea except for again i don't even have a charge anymore. i tap the lock button and the led flickers blue for half a second, which if im not mistaken means the battery is completely dead. While i guess its always possible, never really expected my phone to just randomly stop realizing there's a motorola batter inside of there.
Edit: also if im not mistaken i believe that i had tried to plug the charger into after/during boot up and it still says its not a certified battery or whatever the message is and refuses to charge.
Not entirely sure about the car charger idea. It might work. Kind of skeptical on that if it won't even charge when connected to a computer. You could always purchase a new battery, maybe the extended. If it doesn't work just return it. If you don't want to purchase one, I possibly could ship you an extra one just to borrow and try to see if it's a battery or phone issue.
If you have a friend with another droid x you could try borrowing his or her battery to see if the actual battery is the issue without buying one...
It sounds to me like the battery stats on your phone got corrupted when flashing the new software and need to be cleared, which as said before can be done in CW recovery. There is also an app called BatteryCalibration which will help the situation also after you actually get booted up.
Hope this helps!

I have actually seen the app before, at the time didnt really notice what it did but i understand a bit more now. If any of the actual charging methods work ill definitely try that. Might just have to hook it up to a split usb for a while to get a decent charge.

Thanks for all the help man, really appreciate it. Ill try the car charger i suppose, wont hurt. Worst case I do actually have a friend with a DX so i can see whats up with that. Ive been meaning to pick up the extended for a while now just never really got around to it, guess this might give me an excuse. thanks for the offer to send out a battery though
No problem. I've got a bunch of unused stock batteries for various phones from all the extended battery upgrades we've gotten.
In any case, if you can't wipe battery stats, trying a friends battery or something would be the next best thing.
What I would do if you borrow a battery, if it STILL shows the question mark then it is a phone problem. Boot into CWM and wipe battery stats while using your friends battery, then try your own.
Even if your friends battery works without giving the question mark, wipe stats anyways and maybe it will stop doing it for yours.
Best of luck to you with this!

Great news gentlemen! so after trying the usb split usb method to charge my phone, the first time it didnt work. i just figured i didnt have the wires pushing on the battery poles enough so i retried it. Ended up forgetting it was plugged in and about 30-45 minutes later took it off. plug her in and my phone started up, good signs so far. Finally my os loaded and lo and behold, there's my battery showing green! So i quickly throw it on my wall charger and its charging too. Wiped my battery stats just in case anyways and reflashed everything. Got 596 loaded up and running and deodoxed. After trying to install a battery mod i got a few boot loops but after a wipe didn't work luckily i made a 596 nandroid before trying it. Flashed back to that and everything loaded up fine. Cant thank you guys enough for the help you've been. making a nandroid once my full set up is back to normal haha

Transformer won't boot.

I've seen these topics before but mine is a slightly different case. Here are the particulars:
It shut itself down when using the Gmail app.
It was at ~84% battery
Tried holding the power button for 10 or 20 or 30 seconds to reboot with no result.
I tried plugging it in to PC to see if storage still mounts but it does not.
I was able to get it into APX mode by holding power and vol down (or up, I can't remember) as it showed on the windows PC that it tried to install APX drivers but failed.
After holding power again it came out of APX mode but nothing displays on the screen.
I don't think its just a busted display panel because if it did reboot I'd see the storage mount.
It had a custom ROM on it and it is SBK2.
What do you folks think? Bricked?

Thanks for the tips guys. I left it off the charger overnight and the battery died so when I went to power it on today I got the dead battery on the screen. Plugged it in and it booted fine! Phew.

For anyone who may encounter this in the future I'll post this here so searching may help them.
The Transformer shut itself off twice on me with the same issue. I had full (or close to) battery and it shut off and would not turn on.
I believe it was still "on" in some way as after leaving it overnight and trying to power it on in the morning The depleted battery icon popped up on the screen. I plugged it in and it booted.
The second time it died on me I was using skype (first time using gmail) and I had to again wait for it to run out of battery before anything would display on the screen.
I have since restored back to stock (no root or CWM ) and am waiting to see if it happens again. If it does I'll update the post.

Stock SGH i337 - Won't Power On

I'm not a complete n00b, but this phone has never been rooted. Was working normally and it powered down at complete random. When I reinsert the battery, it powers up for about 2 seconds. Shows the logo, vibrates, and shuts off. Dead as a door-nail. It doesn't appear to begin booting, When entering safe mode or recovery mode it does the same exact thing. If the phone is plugged in, it shows no signs of life. No charging light, no logo screen or vibration. Nothing at all. I'm out of warranty.
Guys, if there's anything I should do before buying a new phone, please tell me. because I am lost.
Check charge port for corrosion. Try a new battery.
The problem mysteriously went away on it's own, but I'm taking your advice. It did seem electrical.
Though, AT&T told me it's because I only had 400mb free space on the disk, but they don't know what they're talking about. Amazing they have jobs as technicians.

It just started working again on its own. I pulled and reinserted the battery for the 100th time and it booted.
Do as was said and clean the charge terminal.
