I've seen these topics before but mine is a slightly different case. Here are the particulars:
It shut itself down when using the Gmail app.
It was at ~84% battery
Tried holding the power button for 10 or 20 or 30 seconds to reboot with no result.
I tried plugging it in to PC to see if storage still mounts but it does not.
I was able to get it into APX mode by holding power and vol down (or up, I can't remember) as it showed on the windows PC that it tried to install APX drivers but failed.
After holding power again it came out of APX mode but nothing displays on the screen.
I don't think its just a busted display panel because if it did reboot I'd see the storage mount.
It had a custom ROM on it and it is SBK2.
What do you folks think? Bricked?

if u have a ROM on it than try to get it into recovery.. Hold Vol down+ power button till screen come on

Tried that as well, nothing will display on the screen at any time, no matter what I do.

I have had this after rooting. Leave itplugged in to charger for about an hour, then try again. Have alook at my previous posts aout this. Went back to stock.

Thanks for the tips guys. I left it off the charger overnight and the battery died so when I went to power it on today I got the dead battery on the screen. Plugged it in and it booted fine! Phew.

For anyone who may encounter this in the future I'll post this here so searching may help them.
The Transformer shut itself off twice on me with the same issue. I had full (or close to) battery and it shut off and would not turn on.
I believe it was still "on" in some way as after leaving it overnight and trying to power it on in the morning The depleted battery icon popped up on the screen. I plugged it in and it booted.
The second time it died on me I was using skype (first time using gmail) and I had to again wait for it to run out of battery before anything would display on the screen.
I have since restored back to stock (no root or CWM ) and am waiting to see if it happens again. If it does I'll update the post.

I followed the steps to get Ice Cream Sandwich on the kindle from this link<redacted> and used burritoroot3 and kindle fire utility, after some hick-ups with the Yellow triangle for twrp 2.0 I got everything working last night, or so I thought. I went to bed, kindle was probably 30% charged, but I think it died. Today, it will not power on, not will it recognize it is being charged. I've used an outlet and the usb cable from the pc.
If anyone has experienced this or knows how to fix, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Thank You
anyone? I'm really hope I didn't just make my KF a paperweight, but I can't get it to boot, charge, etc. I've tried holding the power button 30+ seconds, nothing happens. A few times I've gotten the power button to flash green then nothing.
I've never had this problem but perhaps you could try the debrick utility in development? And I'm assuming you tried holding the power button for like 30 seconds while charging on the wall?

Nevermind, shew....i just kept trying and eventually it booted and i restored the the backup I made before putting ics on there.
You experienced the sleep of death I think. If it happens again just hold the power button for awhile. Other than that ICS runs good, don't be scared to use it

I was trying to downgrade from ICS back to honeycomb because I was getting tons of random reboots. It was booting then it went black. I havent been able to power it up since. Have tried holding power for a long time, holding down vol + power, and holding up vol + power. Have also tried hdmi cable in case it was just the screen. My transformer simply wont turn on.
How did you downgrade (method you use). You rooted, recovery ect?
I'm rooted. I use CWM recovery to install the ROM as a zip. I installed an old gnufabio revolver rom. I think 3.6. It didn't quite boot right. I installed the rom a second time and as it was booting it quit on me and hasnt come back since.
I've contacted asus support but they are as slow as hell. Also I'm worried that because I was rooted and using a custom rom they may void my warranty. The tablet isn't even a year old yet...
I think ICS installed a new kernel. You may have to go back to the old kernel
I would try but I cant even turn on my transformer. It just stays at a blank screen, never powering on.
Did u try plugging in your usb cable and plug it in to your pc to see if your pc recognizes it being on? ive also read somewhere that it actually is on but the screen wont turn on and u have to wait for the battery to die before it resurrects itself.

Plugged it into my PC don't really get any sounds. Plugged in HDMI cable and can't see anything. It actually seems to be off.
I would give it a week or two before declaring it dead...im pretty sure ive read a similiar situation to this before. Keep trying.

thanks, i figure ill keep trying but that's a really odd problem if that's the case. I don't get why it would just up and die on me and not turn back on...
I've seen posts about this too.... i think what they did was leave it plugged directly in tab for a few hours then try to boot up with the cable still plugged in (AC). Also i think they held the power down for like 30 seconds.
You could also try power +vol down for 30 seconds too.
Hope this helps
when i played around a bit with my transformer plugged into usb i found the following
holding vol up plus power button results in a weird sound.
after hearing this weird sound if i hold power button down it makes a disconnecting usb sound
At no point can i see the memory card. i cant see the ttansformer under adb devices
how much charge was in the tf before you tried to flash back to hc?

That sounds like you are entering Apx mode.
Try plugging it in to the wall and hold the power down for like 30 seconds.

I think the best way to test different solutions is, the first set to charge at least 30 or 40 minutes.
try booting into recovery, power + volume down, then volume up .
even if you see the black screen, check if the pc recognizes the tablet as adb device.
I understand that you have already tried without getting it to boot in recovery mode , but you can start apx mode: power + volume up.
Take a look at your TF box, you may get lucky and have a B60xxxx, and you can use NVFLASH to restore system.
Fixed it. Used the razorclaw to nvflash a good 3.2 stock rom. Not sure how but i apparently borderline bricked my transformer. Thanks for all the advice.
Im having a hard time re-rooting this thing though. It's been a while. I have a B4O

the easiest way today to re-root your tf , is vipermod 4.5.
only for root , install cwm with installrecovery.app
So i turn off my nex so it can charge faster after 1hr I notice the battery charging display wasn't showing so I decided to turn it back on it wouldn't start I pressed the power on button for at least 20min straight it wouldn't start I got very upset I kept on clicking then I got a logo does any one know what causes this to happen I'm stock with 4.2 update and this is like the second time it does this

You really press power for 20 minutes lol?
Next time just unplug the charger and wait a bit then plug back in. Do it several time and it will work.
and I do not know what cause the problem. It might be battery issue. or you usually left the battery die and Nexus 7 turn itself off? If you did that, that might be a bit of the problem!
Hope this help~
you don't need to turn it off to charge, you can just turn on flight mode...i leave our in flight mode overnight but charging and it barely uses any battery

Interesting you mention this. Last night I went to fire up mine and nothing....nada. Hadn't used it all day so I knew battery was charged. Waited a bit then pressed both power and volume (+ & -) at the same time and it booted. All was well.
Read where this has happened to a few other but not very often. Thought I might be looking at an RMA. 4.2 JB Stock ROM/rooted only. Keeping a wary eye on this development.
So, my phone ran out for battery and died. Plugged it in over an hour ago, but the phone will not switch on. Anything I can do?

Nope!
Something similar happened a couple of days ago. Held the power button for around 10 seconds and a red notification light came on. I think it was flashing as well. About 10 or so minutes later the screen came on. This time the phone is just dead...
Have you tried any button combos like- power + volume up + volume down.
Also did the phone run out of battery normally or was there any battery drain?
This doesn't look good for n4.
Hold power and vol +/- to enter recovery mode and then restart.
But before make sure ur charger or outlet works.

None of the combos work. It's as if it's not charging...
Weird. Plugged it into my laptop to check if that worked. Nothing. Plugged it back to the mains and a red notification light started flashing. After about a minute the screen came on with the battery animation. I managed to switch the phone on now. The wallpaper was reset to the stock one, but everything else seems to be fine.
I placed my nexus 10 on charging yesterday, and after a while (2-4 hours later) when i came back, i found the device to be turned off, I tried the power button in all the combination with volume buttons, but still no luck (even held the power button for 3mins) I searched online, and couldnt find any help on other forums. Some said to keep it on charging overnight and then try powering it up. But still no luck.
I dont get any notification when i connect it to charger, although when i press the power button while connected the screen lights up, and battery charging sign shows up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you cannot even get to the recovery?
You ether over charged it (very unlikely to happen) or you have a faulty N10.

No, can't even get to recovery. But i have been using the device for over two months now, nothing like this ever happened. What about the charging sign when i press the power button. It might be some kind of a sleep mode or something, no?

Could be a bootloader corruption, software issue, hardware issue or some part of the hardware "thinks" that it is still on when it is not causing it to not switch on.
Have you noticed any issues before it just came off like extreme overheating?

Well, yes the tablet was getting overheated after a long session of hd videos, or games, but that use to happen all the times.
I believe this is normally called a "Sleep of Death" or sometimes "screen off death". Hold power + vol up + vol down at the same time for 5 seconds and you should boot into fastboot. From there hit the power button to turn the tablet on. Then go about finding a better ROM/kernel combo that doesnt give you this problem.

Are you using the charger/cable that came with your device?
Its working.
Weird how it was taking any input from the power button though. I kept the tablet on charging over night and i tried turning it on in the morning and it worked.
Thank you all.

I've had my Nexus 10 for less than a week, and this morning I encountered this problem. I was working on setting up syncing through an app called FolderSync and SugarSync. Syncing of one of the folders seemed to go into a loop. The device locked up completely a couple times. I got the process running again and left it running while I went for a workout. When I came back no way could I get it turned on.
I had tried all the things suggested here before checking here for help. I'll try your "solution" of leaving the device on charge overnight. If I can't get it going tomorrow morning I'll return it to Staples, where I bought it.
I have an iPad and have never encountered anything even close to these problems. Bought the Nexus 10 specifically to run the Vim Touch app for Android. The only Vim app for the iPad is horribly crippled.
Sounds like this thread pretty much exhausted the possibilities by the time epicbearman discovered his "solution," but if by chance anyone has any further suggestions I would be grateful.
Thanks,
Eric Weir
I had the exact problem as the OP and none of my chargers worked. I then googled and found someone that said to try to charge via their PC USB instead of the wall charger. I left it plugged into the USB for a couple of hours and the charge went to 4% ( so it must have been very dead ) and all is well.
I charged it via the usb charger, and connected it to my pc overnight. Try doing that.

Thanks. If I'd gotten this in time, I suspect it would've worked. But when I couldn't get it started after trying everything else and leaving it on charge overnight, I returned it to Staples.
Will order a Nexus 7 from Google. If I can get Vim Touch running successfully---my reason for wanting an Android tablet---and I find the screen to small for heavy writing---I want to get by with a soft keyboard---I'll order another 10 and give the 7 to my daughter.
Thanks again,
Eric Weir
