List of links and GPS Fixes - Vibrant General

Here is a list of most of the known GPS fixes.
At this point no one should be suffering from lack of knowledge or or methods offered. One or a combination of these will work.
Please remember, the GPS on the Galaxy phone is GPS assist NOT pure GPS, so if it does not perform like your TOM-Tom or Garmin.......so what ...it was not designed to be as good as a dedicated device. That said here are the links, etc that will help you get the best performance out of your phone:
KWKSLVR Hardware fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878970 ....
this is a hardware fix for some phones the tab that is suppose to engage the antenna does not make good contact. This provides a fix for that
Software fixes from the market:
GPS Aids,--- this works pretty well
Gps restore --- works for some
Some Software fixes from postings:

I have Masters GPS fix patch attached in this posting.
Jellette (it could be Whitehawkx or Birgertime can't remember) of the EDT Team has a GPS fix as well I could not locate. Maybe someone can post the link or patch in here as well

I think this and the hardware gps fix should be put in the sticky threads

The digitaltoddy fix (Fixes me EVERY TIME):
You'll need to get into LBSTestMode by entering *#3214789650# from the dialer. Press Delete GPS Data, this will get rid of the bad GPS information that is probably still stored in your phone. Go to Application Settings and set the Start Mode to 'Cold Start'. Reboot your phone and go outside, run an app like GPS Test and let it lock onto as many birds as it can, once you get a good number (at least 5), go back into your LBSTestMode --> Application Settings and set the Start Mode back to 'Hot Start', reboot and all should be merry.
I had major issues w/ my GPS and was able to put this together with the help of various posts and a deeper understanding of how GPS on these phones actually works. Hope this helps!
Also, it's probably best to run the GPS Test application while you are driving around, let it lock onto as many birds as it can (I'd say let it run for a few minutes, I was able to get 9 the first time) before setting it back to 'Hot Start'. This way it will keep these birds in the list and allow you for a faster lock afterwards.

[APP][03•30•09][0.6.5] TrackMyRun - GPS Run/Walk tracking (Nike+ sorta)

I have started working on an app for Windows Mobile 6 phones w/ GPS to do run/walk/bike tracking like the Nike+. Here is a little Video of the app in action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIqKHCb21cg&feature=channel_page
Version 0.6.5 9s attached
- Smartphone detection is in
- Run Form updated to be smartphone happy, view log is next.
Version 0.6.4 is attached
- Calories burnt calc!!!! (put your weight in...lbs for now...kg coming )
Version 0.6.3 is attached
- 1 Mile/KM kills the app bug fixed!
Version 0.6.2 is attached
- I am not dead! I promise
- This is mostly a maintence update. All the tracking code has been pulled from the views and put off in modules (as it should have been from the get go) so I can get a Smartphone version working soon.
Version 0.6.1 is attached
- Audio updates - new sounds for mile/km passed and distance goal hit
- Audio updates - updates to how the power management is dealt with for audio, still not perfect, but better
- Center button (on your direction pad) now turns the display off and on and also it stops the phone from sleeping when you use that display off method. This is great for phones that get a bit wierd on their GPS in unattended mode.
Version 0.6 is attached
- New internal tracking code to improve performance and make new feature additions easier (this was more about me than you )
- First audible notices. Each mile/km and distance goal hit. It is just a tone right now, but I will record and add voiced stuff tonight.
- New Settings tab for audible notices
- Smartphone users can atleast start the app and track a run now! (still no settings or view log...that is coming)
Version 0.5.9 is attached
- Fix the View/Save log bug (I hope)...you might have to delete your Run Log (yeah for Alpha testing!)
- New way to calculate speed that is more accurate for me. This might depend on what GPS chip your phone uses...try both and see which you like more (change in the Settings Screen)
Version 0.5.8 is attached
- AppToDate bug fix
- Start of true metric support
- little bug fixes
Version 0.5.7 is attached
- I think the String->Date bug is fixed, please let me know!
- Added an "Action" menu under the left soft key for start/stop/save (silly non-touch screen phone users!)
Version 0.5.6 is attached
- EMAIL A RUN!
(that is a horrible name for the feature right now....since it just gives you a link to share...)
http://www.trackmyrun.mobi/viewrun.php?run_id=18&auth_code=5qii4mfy
Version 0.5.5 is attached
- Settings screen is up and working
- Goal progress is based on settings now (not just 3.1 all the time)
- All based on miles still, KM is coming soon fear not!
- Few more bug fixes and exception catches
Version 0.5.3 is attached
- GPS unattended mode updates
- Few bug fixes
- Ignore Calories/Pace, those spots are place holders/debugging right now...they will work in a later release
Version 0.5.1 is attached
- GPS stays up in unattended mode now (screen off by time out or hitting the power button)
- Few little bug fixes
Version 0.5 is attached
- KML support is all in now
- Go to view a lot (has to be a new one) and select View in Google Maps
- Change the line in the KML file to be green since that yellow was hard to see
Version 0.4 is attached.
- Fixed a few of the stupid SubString() bugs
- Added Experimental KML support! (start a run, do some stuff, then go to options->experimental->Build KML). It will put test.kml in your devices root folder
- Working on new speed tracking code, it is far more accurate...but not done yet (so ignore that it has like 900 #'s after the decimal point)
- Ignore what it says for calories burnt...that isn't what you think it is
ENJOY!
Version 0.3 is attached.
Looks good! I would definatly use this app!
Looks impressive. The auditory upgrade feature would be cool to add.
There are similar Apps. One in particular is also cool is:
GPS Cycle Computer v2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
How would this calculate calories burned if your activity differs?
i.e. Rollerblading vs. Running vs Cycling, etc.
or is it simply based on time and distance to give a general calculation?
Nice looking app, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this one. Keep up the good work.
Does this track coordinates? Or does it track via something else? Cause then I'm thinking that you need an active data connection for this to work :|

It tracks coordinates, so no data plan is needed at all for this. Just a working GPS. Now, I plan in the future to have online features for showing your routes on google maps and storing run data online, ect...but that is in the future...

There are some standard formulats that are based on weight, time of exercise and how vigorous the activity is. For walk, jog, run that is easy (since I now your MPH's). For biking, roller blading, ect that gets tougher.
This is looking awesome. Could really do with an App like this. Keep it up and hope your "about a week" estimate is correct for a first beta.
A question though; I have a Touch HD. Has the interface been written to be able to cope with a WVGA resolution?

I have only tested it on a VGA display (my Touch Diamond). I have played with it in the QVGA emulator and the Square VGA emulator. The layout is far from final (I am not happy with it at all right now), so that is in flux a lot.
Go ahead and try the current version if you like:

Please be aware this is a VERY alpha version. There are known bugs that throw exceptions that I don't catch...so be nice
If you do however have any failures or success, please let me know.

AppToDate Support
Could you possibly think about having this AppToDate Support. Since this is in the early stages of development, it would be great to run AppToDate to get the current version. Thanks.
Couldn't wait until I got home so just loaded it up here. Everything seems good until I tried to View Log when it crashes out on me.Unfortunately I don't have NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab installed installed so cannot view details.
Also +1 for Apptodate support!

Did you start and then stop a run? The log file isn't created until you do atleast one and I bet it is dying trying to read the log file (which doesn't exist yet for you if you didn't do a start/stop)
I will do some reading on AppToDate in a bit, see what all it takes to integrate it.

Yeah I had done and paced about abit; notched up 0.003 miles. Stopped the run successfully and then tried to view the log.
I've just jogged home from a friend's house (1.237 miles). This time when I stopped the run it crashed. No error code or anything; just said I had to quit and restart.
Sorry that's probably not much good for bug finding!

Yeah no problems there. Slight lag on speed changes but I guess that's to be expected/part of the suposed and much debated GPS lag on the HD!
No complaints about performance at all.
I'm really liking the look of the App, certianly looks good so far; will be awesome if/when audio feedback can be given.
Something that would be good is if you could make the data from the logs uploadable to a PC to plot onto a graph (via Excel).
Like I said, great work so far! Loving this, who needs Nike/Apple!

The lag might be that I only update the display every 5 seconds (that is for all data). I think I might update the speed in real time (there is a call back function I can attach to for that). I do have plans for graphing/tracking/mapping in the future via an upload to a website feature...but that is a bit down the road I want to get all the stand alone client features working correctly first!
Please let us know when you have completed a final version. this program will be very useful. I know its still in the early stages hopefully you will be able to find the bugs and get them fixed, so we can download complete version.

[CANCELLED]WANTED: Guinea Pigs for GPS fix

Update: It seems that it doesn't want to play well with at least some Vibrant modems so I'm not recommending it for Vibrant and please don't download. In looking at a drop of I897UCKB1 the libsecgps.so seems to have been updated as well, which might explain it.
I've been working on a GPS fix that has had a fair degree of success so far on the Captivate side:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957164
I *believe* it should also work on the Vibrant, just can't be certain yet. In fact, I believe it should work on any of the North American Galaxy S variants that use the Broadcom BCM4751 (no FM Radio) GPS module. The only thing in it that's AT&T specific is the certificate used for Secure SUPL connection, but I don't think it would matter and it won't overwrite any existing certificates. If it doesn't work just set Secure SUPL to off but I think it will still work fine using the AT&T certificate.
(In fact, if someone wants to look in /system/bin/gpsd/ and pull out a copy of the T-Mo .cer certificate file I'd be glad to cook up a Vibrant-specific version for testing.)
If there's anyone out there who's about to flash anyway, who has a backup of their settings they can use for recovery if needed, or whose GPS performance is just so awful they don't give a sh!# any more and will try anything I'd appreciate a few Vibrant testers.
Please report back with results and ROM/modem configuration.
Thanks, and good luck!
I've been following the GPS work being done in the Captivate forums with great interest (especially Da_G's and now your threads), and I have to say I'm very excited and appreciative of the progress you're making. Sorry I can't do any beta testing this week, but in the future I will definitely flash this.

Understandable.
In truth though the only reason it's really still marked as being in beta is that it I haven't been able to nail down why it seems to work wonders for some but doesn little to nothing for others. My suspicion is that it has to do with the modem but results don't seem consistent yet.
I9088 based modems (KP1 etc) seems to works well so far, as does JK4 which I why I thought to ask for Vibrant testers.
Tried it (on bionxi V 1.2) and nothing. No sats in view, certainly no locks.
Rebooted, and the samsung gps restore ap and and it is back to working but jumping arround as it was before.

Disappointing to hear. Hopefully others might have better results, and this could still be the case as the configuration is only one of the problems with Samsung's GPS implementation.
The Samsung GPS restore app does nothing to improve GPS really. All it does is revert back to the horribly flawed stock settings like the broken lcs-spirent.com LBS server. There are basically zero scenarios in which this could ever be helpful and you're almost certainly better off using another GPS fix of some type and changing the LBSTestMode settings to non-stupid ones.
What was the lcs-spirent.com server directing information to anyways? Is it an actual satellite data server or a typo on Samsung's part?

Short answer: at some point it apparently may have been serving as a Location Based Service (LBS) server which would provide satellite and approximate location data used for Assisted GPS (AGPS) augmentation to the pure-satellite GPS. By about launch time or so though the domain was no longer registered, and shortly thereafter it was snapped up by a spammy domain squatter who just sits on it and draws ad revenue from all the inadvertent traffic.
The fact that Samsung's successive "fixes" for GPS continue specify continue to specify this obsolete configuration could probably be taken as evidence that they're either completely ignorant or they just don't care.
p m when you want to test i ll give it a whirl

I will test it out. I drive 40 miles to work and my phone has never had the ability to navigate correctly. It will sometimes get close for a few minutes but then jumps again. Maps work pretty well but the navigation does not. If that is what you are looking for let me know and I will try anything to get it working better.
Edit: I didn't see a gpsd file but there is an agpsd file which I have attached.

I really don't think it should make much a difference though especially as long as supl.google.com is being used for LBS. It's not like it's carrier-specific or anything.
You can download the fix and pull the supt.att.cer file out manually and install it with adb push if you like. I tried to upload it directly here but it's not an allowed file type.

Unless there's a something.something.cer file in there it's not what's needed though.

Sorry, just realized I didn't really answer your question: yes, that's exactly what I was trying to fix and that would be a great test case.
With many of the previously published gps fixes it was possible to get a stationary fix but the tracking was just terrible. I re-enabled smoothing and some of the other augmentations to try to improve tracking. It seems to do a slightly better job at tracking, and in any case if it errs it recovers much more quickly now.
I would love to help test this out also. I sent you a PM Rrryan2.
Thanks!

I already made the changes manually to the LBS setting, I was just unsure if I needed to flash something else since the OP link was to the Captivate zip files.
Looks like the cert for ATT and T-mobile are different, but I am a bit of a noob also so...
I guess I will try to flash the USA file and Odin if necessary
Just tried it out: finding location and locking on. Unfortunatly it took 74 seconds to lock on as opposed to the "normal" 36-45 seconds. Here are the steps I took.
1.Download the .zip for your geographic region below
2.Flash with CWM
3.Apply the proper SUPL settings to LbsTestMode using dialer or SGS Tools - see pic above.
4.rebooted and waited till the os was fully loaded.
Running Trigger 2.1.0 (froyo) has KB1 modem. Used GPS Status to test. Will test navigation later today when I go to work.

Although the testing on Vibrant is still experimental for now, the files (except for the certificate) aren't Captivate-specific and seem to be common to Galaxy S series. Some of the elements of the fix were previously used for Nexus S, Epic etc. Plus they don't have anything to do with anything besides GPS.

Update: List available now of issues in Froyo (EB13) for Devs and SamsungJohn

Update: List of issues available
Dear All:
Since this thread began, we have vented our frustration here, but most importantly, we have done that in an organized manner, by listing our issues in categories. I thank you all for staying on topic, and providing the much needed information in such great detail.
The purpose of the thread was to provide a comprehensive list of all the issues/annoyances/bugs we faced after upgrading to Froyo's EB13 Build, to the developers on this forum, as well as to those at Samsung. Squshy 7, a diligent member of this forum, printed the whole thread(!!), analyzed the information and complied a list of all the issues posted in this thread and others, to serve the purpose of this thread. Great job, Squshy 7!
I hope that based on this list, which is, for now, attached to this post as a Word document (and is posted by Squshy 7 later in the thread), we can receive great feedback from the developers and can soon receive the fixed version of EB13 from our own and Samsung's developers. Wonders of uninvited, but essential, crowdsourcing models! I wish companies realized the benefits of such models of business in this day and age.
I have PMed a mod to insert a second post to this thread so I can paste the complete list in that post.
The following is the original post of this thread. Thank you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am aware there is already a thread about bugs resulting after the latest EB13 update, but I did not see a thread where all the bugs were listed in an organized way. It would be very helpful if we have all the bugs compiled as a list from this thread here in a dedicated thread meant to be seen by Samsung developers, especially SamsungJohn. It would be great if SamsungJohn, continuing the spirit of partnership with the community, can take this list and work toward providing a patch for all the issues after the update as soon as he/Samsung can.
I would greatly appreciate if people, who received their update OTA, would chime in, too.
I am listing the following information about my method of update and the issues/bugs I am facing.
Method of update:
I was on Stock rooted ROM (DI18), with some Sprint apps uninstalled, so I had to use Odin to flash back to a complete Stock ROM. After using the Odin method to flash a Stock ROM, I installed the "update.zip" file from Samsung's Web site to update Eclair (DI18) to Froyo (EB13).
List of issues/bugs:
Sound/Volume:-
- The maximum volume is less louder than what it was on DI18 (some have reported this issue)
- Sound playing at 70% (rough estimate) or above loses fidelity coming out of the speaker of the phone, which is quite frustrating and disappointing, especially when the issue did not exist on Eclair (DI18)
Android Browser:-
- Checkerboard issue
- Unable to open more than four links. The "Open in new window" option does not appear if there are already four windows open
Camera/Camcorder/Video:-
- While recording video in low light, the video lags a lot, rendering the camcorder essentially useless for capturing precious moments anywhere and everywhere
- Selecting the "Sport" mode on the camera force closes the camera app
- There is no option to stop the geotagging of the pics taken by the default Camera app (strange, to say the least)
Screen:-
- On occasions, the screen goes blank and does not come alive until several seconds seconds later, or does not come alive at all
- There is a significant lag (about 2 seconds) in rotating from portrait to landscape, and from landscape to portrait orientation
GPS:-
- Not much better than the buggy GPS in Eclair (even after six months!)
Wifi:-
- The connection to Wifi suddenly drops after a random number of hours. The attempt to turn Wifi back on, from the Settings menu, or the Status/Notification Bar, results in an error, or the Wifi doesn't turn on. To turn the Wifi on, the device needs to be rebooted, or, the radio needs to be turned off and on.
Gsensor:-
- The direction shown by the pointer in Google Maps is wrong by 180 degrees
Operating System:-
- I have several apps moved to the SD card. After a reboot, icons for the apps which reside on the SD card, do not load for a minute or so
- I also noted that the icons of apps on the SD card, organized in a folder on the Home screen, fail to load completely, several times
- A folder shortcut for Pandora fails to load it's icon after a reboot
Please list your method of update and the issues/bugs in an organized manner on this thread, otherwise, the purpose of the thread will be defeated. After we have listed almost all the issues with the EB13 update, it would be a good idea to create a poll to find the number of people experiencing each of the issues. A poll at this time is useless as we do not know the exact number of issues.
Anyone who will post, please organize your issues and categorize them (even if it is a very loose categorization), as it would be much easier for a developer on this forum or from Samsung, to use an organized list of issues and get us closer to receiving fixes as they would have enough information in the form of a list.

Have yet to fully test EB13 but the first glaringly obvious problem is Samsung's infamous "Time without Signal" issue.
First 6 hours running EB13, TWS was 50%
Hours 6 - 12 running EB13 and using "Airplane Mode Toggle" workaround, TWS was 1%.
Battery drain was significantly less after using the "Airplane Mode Toggle" workaround to temporarily fix the issue.
From everything I have read the TWS bug is caused by the phones modem.bin programing continuously hunting for a GSM signal. Since the phone is CDMA and has no GSM hardware it will never find one, causing significant battery drain. I have also read that this bug is not limited to the Epic, but effects multiple Samsung CDMA hardware platforms. There is no way that Samsung could be unaware of this issue.

Thanks for your input. I was hoping we would categorize our issues in terms of Camera issue, Sound issue, etc., so your issue is a battery issue. If you don't mind, I will place the text of your issue as the following, in this post:
Method of update:
Samsung update tool to EB13
List of issues/bugs:
Battery (and Modem):-
Battery drain was significantly less after using the "Airplane Mode Toggle" workaround to temporarily fix the issue.
From everything I have read the TWS bug is caused by the phones modem.bin programing continuously hunting for a GSM signal. Anyone who will post, please organize your issues and categorize them, as it would be much easier for a developer on this forum or from Samsung, to use an organized list of issues and get us closer to receiving fixes as they would have enough information in the form of a list.
Stock di18, unrooted, stock recovery...used update.zip, then dameons deodexed. same bugs throughout
Camera: terrible video lag in low light
Broswer:
prbly app related..all my bookmarks imported correctly, but from the browser I can't access the bookmark list or browsing history...there's literally no option to view them. And the shortcut from the old browser of holding the back button to view them doesn't work either.
And massive checkerboarding
General: overall rotation lag, even after calibration
Battery/radio: haven't noticed a terrible drain on the battery, but I too have the TWS bug. Hangs right at 50%. (On a side note, what's th airplane trick. PM me the answer so as to not clutter this thread)

I've had some of the same issues mentioned by others in many of these threads, but one I've had that I haven't seen mentioned else where is gaps in the Application screen.
I applied update.exe from a stock DI18. Since the Clock app added timer and stopwatch functions, I uninstalled a couple of other apps that were now redundant. But instead of the App pages condensing, I now have gaps when I'm in grid view. I'm sorry I don't feel like I'm explaining this well...
I have 7 pages in Applications grid view. In the past, removing an app meant that all the apps shifted so there would be one less App on page 7. Now, if the app I remove is on page 2, it creates a gap at the bottom right of page 2, and all the other pages are unchanged.
Sorry, OP, I'm not really sure how to categorize that for this list, but I hope this helps it get addressed.

Is there any way your can cross categorize this issue (Battery & Modem) as it is a Battery issue directly caused by a known Modem.bin bug?
What you are seeing is normal for the new version of touch wiz.
On the handset
Unlock Device
Press 'Applications'
Press 'Menu Button'
Press 'Edit'
Press 'Menu Button'
Press 'a-z sort'
That should resort the icon's to the way you are used to seeing them.
Thank you.
Update method samsung update tool.
Same issues as stated in the first post on this thread.
One more annoying bug that I'm also having is when I try to open the sms app it will often open a app that was previously running like contacts dialer or log I would find myself having to reset the phone to get the sms app to work properly. Oh yeah I noticed my battery is draining a lot faster too. To me this seems like dk28 was just renamed eb13. There is nothing that set this build apart from dk28 except the name change.

Holy crap, I had no idea. Thanks! I'd seen the new Edit option in the menu, but never thought to hit the Menu button a second time.
Was this documented somewhere that I should have seen?

I have re-categorized your issue.
The only purpose of this thread is to just provide a quick list of issues/bugs to the people who can use it to fix the outstanding issues, soon. Again, thanks to everyone going through the extra trouble of categorizing and listing their issues in an organized manner. I certainly hope this exercise produces the intended results. Are you reading SamsungJohn?

Mods, please delete this (my) post. I had misunderstood the above post as a solution to one of the issues I had listed, while it is actually addressing another issue in this thread.

Seems like you have issues with the SMS and Battery categories.
Please categorize your issues. Without categorizing and organizing issues, we will have a thread identical to the thread related to the bugs, which would make this thread redundant, and defeats the purpose of this thread. Thank you.

the bookmarks dont have an option , when you click the bookmark button at top near the address bar it brings them up
camera
Camera/Video issue.
Updated via Samsung tool from straight stock.
The video is blurry as noted in low light, but what's even more of an issue is that it force closes whenever you try to select "sports mode" It screws up the phone so bad that after it goes into sleep mode once force closing it will not wake back up. Only a battery pull will get it to respond. I've seen this issue noted across at least 3 other forums, but haven't seen it addressed in this one yet.
Thanks-

Thanks, squshy 7, for offering to compile a list of all the issues!
Method of Update:
Downloaded Samsung tool (.exe) from Samsung website
Bugs:
O/S - Time without Signal. Gotta toggle airplane mode to fix it.
Browser - Also seeing checkerboard effect when zooming/panning
Messaging - Not sure if it's the network, Handcent or EB13 but I'm receiving text messages with a space after each letter. If I restart Handcent it goes away but then comes back intermittently. Not sure if anyone else is seeing this issue.

*[GPS FIX] GPS Fix for all* roms

XDA member*mikel.canovas*created a thread with a method that he found while browsing our fora that will consistently allow the GPS in the Captivate (we know all this crappy phone with huge gps problem) to get a lock on within 5 seconds, even being indoors! This fix also working with galaxy note.
First off - All credit goes to h3llstorm, as this is his genius fix and I'm just making a thread about it since most people don't even know about it.*
This is for*- anyone whose GPS has long lock times, and is inaccurate in navigation.*This*SHOULD*work with all 2.3+ roms. I stress should because I have used this a while back with GB roms and am using it now on CM9 (ICS).
What it does*- replaces /system/etc/gps.conf with h3llstorm's modified version that has much more servers and various tweaks.Results*- I'm able to consistently get locks within 5 sec and ~10m with multiple sats. Even indoors, results are similar. Many (including non captivate users) have reoved results as well.
On my CheckRom I got no locktime at all. ( indoor!!!). Its instantly navigate!
Original thread is here
How to use it:
Backup your old gps.conf (located in /system/etc) in case you prefer your old configuration. But you can always flash your rom again to get it back as well
Download h3llstorm's gps fix --* http://goo.gl/Ti0pp SD CardReboot into CWM and flashReboot and enjoy.
GPSNOTE*- first lock can take much longer that normal. Don't be surprised if it takes over 1 min. Results should improve from there. Should get ~ 3 sec locks, with multiple satellites.
thanks for posting it here

Why would you want to fiddle with the Notes GPS settings? it works extremely well as it is. I always have a lock on multiplse sats within a couple of secs and rarely see less then 16sats beeing locked on after 10sec.
I just tested indoor where I got a lock on 17sats in about 3sec.
With the Galaxy S all tricks were welcome but with S2 and specially the Note with GLONASS too I se no point as it already is incredible.
By the way, did you read the posts on original thread? It is not working for every one. And than you post it here?

its better to edit the config file and add the server address of your local region. ..if you don't want to edit then third party applications are available in market. ..no need to replace the file
For lazy people it is a good solution
Thanks for sharing.
I can see that the NTP_SERVER is ''us.pool.ntp.org''.
So, maybe is better for Europe users to change it to ''europe.pool.ntp.org'' (or any specific country, for example ''gr.pool.ntp.org'' for my country) before flash it?
I really really don't consider it's meaningful
Note can obtain and lock so many sats signal within few seconds. I don't think it's meaningful to do any mod.

No wrong because we all use american sattelites. We all depend on us sattelites.
So wrong info, europe do not have own sattelites for navigate.

So what for there are different servers?
In any rom you can see different servers in gps config, for example rocket rom always using de.pool.ntp.org.
Faster Fix doing the same too.
Hmm another one getting credited for being "a genius " for using something thats been around for a long time (read years)...
They Must work for crappl

We use navstar and that is been set free by ronald regean vs president to use for navigation all over. In europe we use galileo but not for ower diveses.
Did you ever heard about poland lanching a sattelite, we all use the same sattelites. Three for 3d persion. Does not matter where you are ore what it say in gps.conf.
I think there is a misunderstanding here.
"Physical" satellite are american, and the same for all, obviously.
The servers you mentionned are NTP servers which allows for time synchronization, and quicker satellite fix time. It is related to A-GPS (stands for Assisted GPS).

[OT] Please spell check before posting. Three is not free [/OT]
NTP servers are time servers. Time has always been essential to navigation, even before the first satellite was ever launched. If all GPS users on the planet connected to the same time server to check time for satellite search, the servers would crash and you would never get a fix.
You CAN connect to any server you want, but the nearer (faster) the better.

Awesome GPS Config Fixer !!!

I attached a gps config file. It fixes my gps in just 2seconds!! it works very very well !!! Also a device using this awesome patch will lock onto 7 - 11 satellite !!!!
Just flash it. Also you can unzip it and copy gps.conf file located in the system folder of the ZIP file into /etc/ of the system folder of your phone using root explorer (rw-r--r-- permission) and then reboot.
Notice: Make a backup of your current gps.conf file before replacing.
Any user plz test it and write your feedback.

why don't you try this? replace the ntp server and the other servers with what you want (get it from your gps.conf), that's not the important part of the config... try this and then you can say if it is working or not, in your thread you talk about a bit faster fix... i can say you that this "random jazz with no real impact on gps accuracy" will get you a greatly faster fix and better accuracy
edit: you surely know that you need data connection on to use correctly agps

this forum is full of ...
best NTP server is the one CLOSEST to You, and for xtra data - better is official source, sorry
you got some random shenanigans mostly doubleing sytem settings or reffering to ones not working on i9000 - this shows lack of knowldge
INTERMEDIATE_POS and ACCURACY_THRES ends up in geetting 'partial' greatly INACURATE fix then slowly making it better - that is not faster fix - same goes to few other settings - dont tell me thats the idea, get 300m or more fix with partial data and then making it better - at the end normal settings will get the fix in the same moment as stock ommit those errorous and incurate data you want to get into consideration
long story short - when promoting something one call FIX do some research first - start from basics: learning how gps works on android and paricullar device
imho there is no better way than the google way - remember nexus s and i9000 main boards are the same (-nfc -led +sdcard)
edit: you surely know that when data connection of agps will be downloaded if wifi is enabled and in range
also agps is not needed for fix, it speeds it up a bit but if youre in location with satelites visible you will get a fast fix anyways
as long as your GT-I9000 got no problems with antena connection (after fixing that guys get fix indoors so...)
dont waste more of my time, thanks
btw the tittle: "Awesome GPS Config Fixer !!!"
there is nothing wrong with stock gps.conf or other settings files to begin with
only culprit is samsung to release device that got connection motherboard<->antena made so ****ty
