My wife and I both have the mt4g and have been experiencing intermittent data interruptions at home, where we have a strong "H" signal. It will happen on one phone, while the data continues to flow on the other phone, suggesting a phone issue vs a tower/connection issue.
Basically what happens, when doing something like downloading an app or playing slacker radio, the up/down arrows under the "H" become less solid/consistent and the download or slacker radio stops. When this happens, I've tried opening the web and am unable to get any websites to load (I get the kind of 'unavailable' error, as if I have no data connection). After like 2-10 minutes, things typically resume to normal.
Again, this will occur on one phone while the other continues to operate normally. Btw, got the phones on Friday afternoon and neither of us have received the 2.2.1 update. Any ideas on what the issue might be?
I've had that issue occasionally on every Android phone I've owned. It's never happened THAT often, so I've kinda dealt with it.
I am also having this "problem".
Sometimes I'm updating an app, others, while browsing the web.
I've had this happen once, but I rebooted and all was good again.

I have just started experiencing this issue recently too. I am gonna step out on a limb and say it may have something to do with the update because I never had this issue before it was pushed to me.
Edit: sorry went back and read your original post and saw that you didn't do the update- it is anyones guess then.

I had this issue on the second day, it seems to have vanished on it's own. I kept having to enable and disable "airplane mode" to get it back to working instead of rebooting.
My next plan was to toggle the network connection off/on when this happened and see if it cleared up the problem immediately (probably similar effect to toggling airplane mode). I actually just now got the update pushed, but it seemed like the data connection was stuck during the push (over 30 mins nothing was happening, and data download arrow not working, web not working, etc.). I rebooted and turned on wifi, and update was ready to install within a minute or so. I was hoping the update would fix the issue, but sounds like it persists at least for some. This happens far too frequently for my taste. I'm thinking about asking for replacement devices to at least rule-out defective units. I guess I'll see how it goes for the next day or two and report back.
I'm having the same issues with my G2, so I'm interested to see how this device is doing. I might consider switching.
I've still been having this problem, and it still seems to be occurring relatively frequently - like maybe every 15-30 minutes or so, and with it more likely to occur if I try to do multiple things at once (e.g., some combo of browse, download, slacker radio, etc.). Btw, this is happening on mobile data, not wifi...haven't really tested wifi much yet tbh.
I used widgetsoid to give myself a mobile data toggle to use when I had a problem. It seems like when the data connection gets locked up, tapping this toggle fixes the problem fairly quickly...but it is kind of annoying to have to tap this when it happens, and it's not always clear when there's a minor hiccup in the data vs a stall that's going to require me to 'reset' things.
Also, I noticed that the widetsoid mobile data toggle actually has the same effect whether you are toggling it 'off' or 'on'...either way, it turns off data momentarily, then the data indicator reappears and the data connection resumes. Anyone have a suggestion for something like widgetsoid that will actually toggle mobile data off and keep it off when in the off position?
If you use the sense launcher there is a network connection widget.

Keep in mind that the G2 and MT4G are the first two HSPA+ phones ever. There are bound to be some kinds in the network in the beginning, but I would bet they get ironed out quickly.
My Atrix has been super solid. It does not have any issues that I have been reading. (misaligned lock button, wifi not connecting on a unlocked phone, random shutdowns etc)
I only have 1 problem.
The stock text message client will put the wrong time stamp
on the messages received.
EX) i sent a message at 6:03, it says i sent it at 6:03, then i get a reply 1 minute later and it says i received it @2:04
I live in eastern time zone (which works out to +4 with daytime)
I downloaded and use Handcent SMS now which works good and puts the correct time tag. However, I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this?
I tried automatic time by carrier, and also manually setting time to +4, but they both produce the same result....
Also, does your earpiece crackle on volumes greater than 50%?
I have to turn it down to below 50% which is still loud and fine for me to hear, but I was surprised that it cant even go over 50% volume without crackling
I like GO SMS Pro better than handcent personally - im not sure about the timestamp issue....

Known issue, its they way fido and rogers handle that timestamp. bell does it on the network while rogers/fido have the phone do it. since our device isn't from rogers, the stock app doesn't know to do that. You can go with handcent or search for sms timestamp fix in the market. for more on this issue you can search around in this forum.
I don't have the earpiece crackle problem though.
download an app called "SMS fixtimes" in the market. does the job
nice! I was thinking it had something to do with rogers/fido
too bad the crackle problem is only with my handset
Dear All,
I have Nexus 4 device with stock rom and I'm facing the following issue:
When I'm not using the device for few mins and someone sends me notification in whatsapp I'm not getting it. Only when I wake up the device and open the app I'm getting the notification.
Did someone face this issue?
I'm not sure but I think this is some safe mode or something like.
Please help me with that.
Thanks,
Yotam
What kernel are you using

What will 4.2.2 do with regards to this issue?
Wifi is probably going to sleep. Go to advanced wifi settings and set it to remain always awake.
This happened to me, latest franco kernel version is somewhat fixing it!
I'm using the original kernrl, didn't change it yet?
did someone using Franco kernel and stock rom?
In the mean time I Chaged thr ROM to CM 10.1 , but I want to check it also with STOCK rom.
does someone knows which rom is the original one?
wifi sleeps when display is off, so push notifications are delayed, its a problem with 4.1.2, I currently haven't found a solution and its not my modem, wait for 4.2.2,
when streaming, display must be on to complete transfers
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40065
A work around, someone pointed out in another thread, is to set wifi deliberately to turn off when phone sleeps and leave mobile data on.. when you get a notification phone will wake and wifi will switch back on to receive notification.
can confim this works, i leave 2g only on.
Check your APN settings cos mine was doing the same thing till I changed the APN settings.

I was thinking that APN should be also an issue. in the mean time I switched to CM 10.1 and this issue dissapear
Is the problem only when you are using mobile data or is it wifi as well. Have you tried it with whatsapp plus.

It's seems that I've the same problem. When I just turn off the screen I've the notifications but when the phone sleeps more than few minutes I don't receive notifications.
I have franco r71, I see if this fix the problem as someone said before.
Is this happening to everyone or just a few people (including me)?

WhatsApp on the Nexus 4 seems to be a complete and utter disaster. I don't know why but it takes 10-20 seconds to send messages via whatsapp, even when my signal is perfectly full and I could be browsing. On my old S1, it would send them almost instantly, the N4 seems to wait, dilly dally for a little bit then send them when it's happy to. I can't tell if it's a modem issue or a bug in JB but it's getting annoying.
I regularly receive clumps of 4 or 5 messages. They do usually arrive, even when in dormant, but they don't arrive like, one after the other, they just arrive all at once.
Its the standard jb WiFi issue described in Google bug report and happens to everyone.
Whatsapp is fine over 3g if.you have a decent 3g connection. In fact I use whatsapp on 2g and notifications are instant with the screen off.
As a side note, on fauxs latest beta kernel I haven't had the signal bars turn grey.

Not for me. It's fine over WiFi. Totally b0rken over 3G, takes ages to update and send messages
FYI this also happens with Facebook messenger

Can't decide what it is. Internet browsing seems fine on this phone, but WhatsApp is ****ed.
Even further problems today, surely this is to do with the baseband?
Hi does anyone have issues with sending messages in whatsapp with the nexus 4?
One issue I have only experienced after getting the nexus 4 is quite often messages take a while to send.
I have attached a screenshot.
As you can see its 5:45pm, I have messages I sent at 5:43pm and 5:44pm, and still have not sent yet.
When I first noticed this issue I thought at first it was a issue with my data, but as you can see here I am still receiving messages so my data connection is obviously ok.
I didn't have this issue with the One X or the Galaxy S3, I am still using the same sim and provider. This is getting very frustrating.
I have also noticed a couple of times that I have closed whatsapp not noticing it hasn't sent and only to find a bit later after opening whatsapp again that the messages still haven't sent!
Try.... taking your sim out and in, upgrading to 4.2.2, test in wifi and 2g mode
Check your network...sometime it is the culprit.
I have no problem in China and HK but when I went to Indonesia last month it was behaving same as yours.
Initially I thought it's my phone. The data signal is full but message sent was slow and at time you received several messages at the same time.
I'm back in HK and experience none of this now
PS.
Network = 2G/3G....try to test it with reliable wifi
Used to happen a lot with 4.1.2 but since I flashed PA's rom, this issue has been solved, thankfully!
thanks for the replies, I've noticed it wasn't happening in wifi but I am still using the same sim as the one X and S3, so its not likely to be an issue with the provider.
I have updated to 4.2.2 and it is still happening.
This is starting to seem like an issue with whatsapp and the stock rom?
Have you tried cleaning the sim?
I am having this exact same issue.
I also seem to get s load of whatsapp messages through at once when the the phone has been sleeping for quite a while (even on WiFi)
Which provider are you with?
I'm currently on a orange (ee) contract

Nope, but I don;t see how this would have any issue, data and phone calls are all fine.

I am in Hong Kong and using PCCW.
I have just reinstalled whatsapp and reset my APNs and still having the same issue
I think this could have to do with what network you are on.
I know this isn't 100% the issues your having. But it looks related...

that's related to wifi, and while the messages don't sent I am able to receive messages,
Has anybody reported this bug to Google and WhatsApp? They should both be informed, because we can't know whose fault this is.
I am from HK and useing PCCW too , i am using QQ2013 , and it also show cannot send message :silly:
I am on PCCW in Hk Too, I do face this issue sometimes. It takes a while to send a wtsapp msg. Besides wtsapp. There are also some issue in using mobile network. Sometimes when I want to use the network, The H logo shows full reception. but without the "loading arrow" besides it, So that the pages doesn't load. I have to solve it by turning off the data and reopen, Then, The "loading arrow" appears and the network back to normal.
That's annoying
Uh oh, I'm seeing a pattern here. I'm in HK on CMHK.
Though WhatsApp message-sending is the big issue for me, it seems like there's some lag/timeout when browsing the web as well.
Experiencing t same issue on watsapp as well as the browser. It seems t ping is really slow. At times need to reload the page. Also it is not specific to browser. It happens with different apps. T network all t time is full. However not yet noticed anything like tat on wifi.
Any clue to fix t issue. Its really annoying.
Thanks

I have the same problem on Telenor in Sweden.
I have noticed that, when I have a message waiting to be sent. If I start the web browser and reload a page and return to Whatsapp it has been sent. I can reproduce this problem 100%.
So the problem doesn't seem to be network related. I would imagine we get a bug fixed Whatsapp soon.

I suspect there's an OS problem. WhatsApp may be able to work around the issue (tricking the OS into getting its act together and sending the packets that need to go out), but it's Google that needs to release a fix.
I just created a bug report here: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=52260&thanks=52260&ts=1362026130
Star it if you want to be notified of developments (and show Google that you care about the problem).
I added a comment to the bug report you made, but I'll post my experience here as well. I find that sometimes the phone doesn't switch from 3G to HSPA when it needs to. It happens to me in WhatsApp but also on other apps like Twitter or Facebook, where I send a message or refresh the feed, and it just stays stuck there. No data is transmitted, so it doesn't even switch from 3G to HSPA. Eventually it seems to "wake up" and realizes there's something requesting a connection and it goes through.
Hi, I recently purchased a S4.
I am more than happy with my phone but there is one major problem in it,
The internet. Its not always on.
Many a times, the connection times out. and its like it connects everytime whenever I open a page or something,
I mean
I have tried 3 different networks and even if the network is full, it takes few extra seconds for me to open up a site for the first time.
Even in the case of whatsapp, if I am not using whatsapp then manyatimes I receive messages in a batch and not when the sender sends it.
and when I wanna send a message after not using it for a long time, the same issue happens, It gets sent after some time...
please help...!!!!
I have tried using EDGE as well as 3G
earlier I had Galaxy R, and it was the coolest phone I ever had,.,, It had no such issues....
Are you using any battery saver app?
I use Battery Defender, it disconnects the Internet when the screen turns off and automatically connects to the Internet when the screen turns on.
So, in this way you tend to receive messages in whatsapp in a batch rather in real time as the sender sends it.
