I just rooted my 2.2 vibrant! (came stock with 2.2) ! now im trying to flash clockworkmod but i get this error when i re-installl packages in the vibrant recovery screen.??
Can someone please show me a step by step on how to probprly make a 2.2 vibrant recongnize the clockwork recovery screen?!
You would have to ODIN to a ROM that comes with the 2E recover such as (eugenes froyo that doesnt brick) or a kernel that you can odin that has a modified 3E recovery that disables signature checking. Once you do that you can flash a kernel that has clockwork embeded into it such as overstock, tigers blood, voodoo, eugenes dead horse.
i think i need a step by step way too noob to understand what 3e and 2e is and what is ODIN i hear soo much about it! I bought the phone with 2.2 already on it so i havnt used ODIN at all to update my firmware!
Read the vibrant bible for about a week then try messing with your phone.

the bible specifically doesnt tell you everything but it links you to everything you need to know if you are still having trouble read the noob guide.

after youve read that then go through the stickies posted in the vibrant general section and make sure you know what you are doing.

your easiest method to get CWM working (and i'm assuming your end goal is to flash a rom) is to odin BACK to JFD (the stock shipped 2.1 rom for the vibrant) and then flash your rom.
There is no other easier way to do it (especially since you're not really sure what odin is, so using the other method to replace the stock 3e recovery with a fixed 3e recovery requires SOME technical knowledge of mounting partitions and getting root using superoneclick).
I sEE its starting to make sense now! After i switch back toJFD using ODIN will i have to re root my phone or does it stay rooted?

if you're end goal is to flash a rom, and you've already used CWM before using the update.zip method, unless you've deleted the update.zip from your sdcard, there is no need to root when using 2e recover (the stock 2.1 recovery) to get CWM working. You will have to manually boot up the phone into recovery (using vol+ and vol- and power) and then reinstall packages.
Thanks alot i appreciate the help! Ill try this after work and report back if i had any more issues.
ODIN a stock+voodoo kernel, reboot to recovery, flash a rom with cwm

If you're entire goal is to get root in order to flash a Rom, why go through all the trouble (which by the confusion your having, there will be) just to flash a custom Rom?
The easiest way is to odin jfd to your phone. Then put the cwm update.zip on your internal sd card as well as your Rom of choice and flash that way.
The way that you're currently wanting to do requires you to get at the very least temp root, mount /system as rw, the copy over a modified recovery file, all assuming you don't run into errors about having enough free space on /system.
Now, which way seems easier?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Wouldnt it be ezr to download the recovery 3e.zip to your download file on phone directly from the internet, then copy the zip file and move to the appropriate file on phone useing a file manager ..then just robooting to recovery reonstallingand completly avoiding a computer
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well, you have to have root first. To get rust on your 2.2 rom requires a computer and there's also the fact that you may not even have enough room on your /system partition. If it were easier, the easier method would have been told to you within the first 3 posts.

the info below is on page 12 on the above link F.Y.I
1. get superoneclick root application (its on the forums just search for it.)
2. plug phone into computer then open superoneclick application
3. click on shell root (i used psneuter method) in the application and let it do its thing
4. Once you get a message that you have shell root, download the 3e recovery from OP and unzip to desktop. (DO NOT restart phone!!!)
5. run the .BAT file in the unzipped folder.
6. go through the steps and choose to restart when done (it will show as recommended)
You are now done!
Let me know how it goes

Sorry for the noob question here, but I have rooted my Samsung Epic 4G and I am positive I am going to install the Froyo rom. However, there's a few things I am not sure on.
1. I downloaded rom manager, but after that, what do i do? Do I install that rom onto the phone and flash the clockwork recovery? Also, do I have to download the clockwork app off of the market first?
2. I know flashing roms requires a wipe, so is there any easy way to back up all my applications and data? I have heard of titanium backup, but I am not sure how to use it.
3. Does owning a mac affect any of these steps when it comes to downloading stuff?
If anyone can explain/post a video about these questions, I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks
Edit: during the clockwork recovery app, what are the controls?
I am still quite a noob myself but I can give you a little guidance. Find a root that includes the clockworkmod (I personally used noobnls all in on root method, it was simple and self explainitory, you can even unroot first and then reroot with it), once you have the root with CWM you can then use ROM manager to flash a ROM. Download the .zip of the rom, make sure it is an epic 4g compatible ROM. Put the .zip on your sd card, then use ROM manager. I don't use it though, I just shut the phone off and boot into recovery, the text will be green if CWM is running. Do a backup, wipe to factory, wipe cache, then install .zip from sd. Locate .zip file and flash it. Reboot and you're done. If you are going to flash a froyo rom make sure you read the first post of the thread, it will usually have instructions of what else you need to flash, how to download it and where to find it. Hope this helps, please remeber that I am still a noob and might not be perfectly accurate. Good luck

Also, I forgot, the appbrain app allows you to sync all your apps so after you wipe and flash a new ROM you can dl appbrain (free from market), and then reinstall all your apps, bad thing is I have not figured out how to do it all at once, and had to install each app individually.

Okay I think I get it, but what's the difference between flashing from the rom manager and boring up the clockworkmod?
Also, can I install the rom directly to my sd card?

Yes, you can dl the rom directly onto your sd card, I boot into cwm so that I can do everything manually and make sure it gets done (its just my preference you don't have to do this). Rom manager makes it easier, you can just select flash rom frm sd card, find the .zip file, it give you the option to backup and wipe and then boots into cwm to finish. Most roms, kernels and themes that I have looked at say wipe 3 times before flashing, that is the other reason I don't use rom manager, because it only gives you the option to wipe once.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Okay so the froyo rom doesn't require a wipe which is nice. Last question, do I need to have the usb plugged into my device as well as a computer? Thanks so much!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
For a froyo rom I am not sure, everything that I read said youj need to use odin to flash the dk17 modem and pit, I haven't done that, but you will need a computer and usb to do that. I'm not sure about the rest, a look at the first post of the various froyo roms should tell you how to do that, I think the viper rom had some good details if I remember. Take a look there in the developers forum and see what you find, let me know how it all turns out

There's a new version of CWM in this link for the Froyo leak of Fascinate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937499
I got Froyo just fine, but I just noticed as I'm trying to install a Froyo theme for Fascinate. I'm having trouble getting the new CWM Recovery to "take". Now when I go through ROM Manager to Reboot Into Recovery, it takes me to the stock recovery, but going to "Update.zip" makes a loading bar load about 1/4 of the bar, then it reboots, shows Samsung logo, and is back at stock recovery. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, any help? Is there any .TAR of the new CWM, so I can maybe use Odin to force it on? Thanks.
Get rid of the theme. That's probably the problem. And this should be posted under general or in the thread of whatever ROM you're using.

Oh good, I love Odin and I was hoping for such a file. I'll try this when I get home, thanks!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Posted this in another thread but this is how I did it.
Download the first file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 and rename it recovery-update.zip put it in the clockworkmod folder on sd card, replacing the old recovery-update.zip.
Download the following file and place it at the root of your sd card, make sure its named update.zip.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17566514/update.zip use it to get into cwm.
Then boot to recovery, (apply update if you get blue writing, choose apply sdcard:update.zip). Once in green cwm choose to "install zip from sd card,"
navigate to your clockworkmod folder then choose the recovery-update.zip file.
Lastly go back to the main options and choose "apply sdcard:update.zip." you should be good to go now!
CWM should be red for now on, and should say voodoo lagfix.
Enjoy! I hope that clears things up!
I can't get past the blue I think when I get home I am odining everything back to normal

This version says Voodoo but isn't, the programmer was to lazy to change that (or a voodoo update for froyo will be here soon). Also the bitmap error happens to everyone so don't worry about it.

Well you have Froyo, you must be using a ROM even if it is stock. Did you follow the directions closely when installing Froyo? And there are no custom kernels for DL30 so no worries about accidentally putting on voodoo.
Ahhhh!
I am having problems with CWM to the point where I can't install any roms nor can I reboot into CWM recovery. I just flashed DL09 and I am trying to flash froyo but I kinda need CWM to work in order to do that... I have an odin package for the version of CWM I supposedly need but it doesn't work, so should I go back to an older one?
Cant get to Green anymore
I updated to Froyo last week and everything is working fine except my battery life sucks...
Im going to upgrade to EB01 and try Super Clean
Ive installed the new CWM but I cant get to Green Recovery anymore.
Everytime I run update.zip, it simply brings up the Blue Recovery.
Try Taka's post on the first page. It worked for me, I'm now rocking the red CWM and running Incognito.

If you are trying to run a Froyo ROM, even without voodoo, then in this situation you will be using a RED CWM.
Specifically, the one that was posted earlier or can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Even though it is red, even though you don't want voodoo, this really is the correct cwm for Froyo at this time.
I have an Epic myself and the security of this new HTC phone threw me for a loop. Anyway , I was trying to put CM7 on his phone , starting from stock. I managed to get CWM 3.0.0.5 on it and then flashed the CM7 from here. Now it is stuck on the white Tmobile screen , Ive let it sit therefor an hour and nothing. But the real problem is that I cant find a way to restore to stock and start over. With the Epic we use a windows program called ODIN in case something like this happens. Ive tried using ADB but the phone is showing offline so I cant push any commands to it. Is there an app like ODIN that will let me factory reset this phone and try this again? Thanks
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Sounds like you rooted and flashed CM7 onto it without having s-off. If I'm not mistaking there is another thread similar to this one somewhere. Also you need cclockwork 3.0.0.6 to flash back and fourth from stock and other roms.
you need pd15img.zip on your SD
pd15img.zip reboot into hboot with that file and the part7-0000000000.bin file on your sd and it will load and ask you to push volume up to confirm then wait, it will restore the phone i know i did it, took me 3 damn days to figure out you need that part7.bin file on your sd with that pd15img.zip file...or its a no go, trust me this WILL def work...its a life saver, i did the same thing you did...had clockwork and no s=off...now i successfully restored it and sent it back to tmobile because before i solved it i panic and called for a replacement, told em it wont turn on, they sent the new one, and about 20 mins ago i flashed cm7 after folling this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 to turn s=off...works great good luck

It was creates with you permanent rooted it.. should be on your SD card. In the rooting instructions it tells you to keep that file around.

Just make sure that u dnt keep tryin to flash the rom cause u gonna end up gettin the cant mount cache & data errors, which once that happens nothin can b done with the mt4g.. So if u used the gfree method to root the phone u should have the part7-xxxxxxxx.bin file, stick that to the root of the sd card & put the pd15 file to the root of the sd card, powerdwn or battery pull, reboot into recovery & let the phne do its thing..
I don't think he has that part7-xx......bin file for his mt4g phone since he did not run gfree patch. You can't do stock nandroid restore also because that requires CWM 2.5.1.4 but you can always give it a shot.
Good luck with your boss, hope you don't get fired.

I didn't use the gfree method for getting perm root.
So i never got that part7 file that you speak of....
I have found them online to download but even using someone elses i still doesnt load the .zip from hboot :{
I downloaded the glacier file , like 350 MB or something , renamed it to PD15IMG.ZIP (had to leave the .zip out because windows). Then I found the part7.bin file from another thread. Put both on sd card. Vol down and power, it found the pd15img file and started restoring the image. 15 minutes later the phone boots up just like brand new! Thank you to everybody who helped with this! Sometimes I dont know what i'd do without this place!
P.s.- he still wants gingerbread any suggestions as to best rom?

I think you made a fine choice with CM7. Just make sure you are rooted and have flashed the latest clockworkmod through ROM manager (3.0.2.4 I believe) and it should flash without issue.
i've been lookign and looking, and just can't find a solution to fixing my problem, not knowing any better I attempted to partition the phone through clockwork and now it no longer fully turns on (goes black after the S screen) and I've tried installing the stock Rom with Odin but it just simply does the same thing, is there a way I can delete the partition I created? i'm pretty sure that's the problem, but i'm not sure how to detect the phone's internal memory without having the phone on and mounting it...

I think my dropbox links might be working now. Go to my sig and click on CWR and download it. Open folder and put the update.zip (it is 1.7mb and make sure it is labeled Update.zip and not CWR.zip) on the root of your Internal_sd so it the only thing labeled update.zip on there. Make sure you have whatever ROM you are going to flash on your External SD card and know where it is. If you have the Superuser.zip on your internal, then move it off.
Boot into stock recovery (blue) and scroll down to Reinstall Packages. Hit it and let it cycle through. It will come back to stock recovery (blue) . Scroll down and hit it again. It will cycle again but this time it will go from blue to green (CWR) . Scroll down to Install from SD and find your ROM you wanted to flash and hit it. Follow whatever ROM's OP.
