[q] Unstable USB connection - Galaxy Tab General

hello guys... I know that is werry likely that unstable connection can by caused by 100 things in the PC itself. (I will try to eleminate that myself). And physical cannection looks good. (moving/pushing/shaking - no problem)
So I ask you about ideas what could be wrong with tab. (I flashed form stock att to roto-JME, I still have white line problem so I need to flash boot).
When I was flashing the roto, I had to do it about 10x before I succesfuly flashed, (the connection was droping in midle of flashing)
Now when I try to copy files to SD across usb it still drops in midle of the copy. The strange thing that I don't need to press umount on the tab again. (the tab is not noticing disconnect).
Another strange experiece was when I unlocked the tab in middle of copy It dropped connection but the thing was that icons on the tab were missing labels. Like out of memory. And ram use was wery high. (files were about 1.1G in size).

Have you tried on a different pc?

WM6x memory leak, virus or memory corruption issue??

All,
I have had issues with my factory (1.14) ROM for my HTC Touch which resulted in the points outlined below. I thus decided to upgrade to the new official ROM (Orange HTC Touch HD ROM Upgrade 1.59.61.2) in the hope it would sort it out. However, it does not - symptom indicator is in the screen shots below.
I cannot find any threads on this matter, unless I am missing something (?), so I would appreciate some help from members here as I have seen occure in the past on my old Trinity model as well so it must be WM6 related and not ROM related.
1) I just upgraded my 1.14 ROM to the new ROM version and within 2 months I had trouble with it corrupting the internal MicroSD card.
This resulted in a format and reinstall of all data.
2) The Phone ROM seems to get regular corruptions on the display after a period of time where the Task Manager (upper right - see screen shots) has missing icons.
The resulting workaround is a reboot.
3) Same corruption issue causes the Wireless Internet to not work correctly.
The workaround is a reboot.
4) Sometimes during calls the phone will drop the call for no reason and it is found the same corruption has occured.
I never had such extensive issues with 1.14 except the minor corruption of the Task Manager so am very annoyed. Anyone else had this? By the way all data was backed up before any upgrade. The ROM worked for 2 months before it corrupted as above.
first up, i dont know about the data loss.
maybe rubbing salt into the wound, but they do say to ensure all data is backed up before flashing any device (be it pc, phone, or anything else).
did you flash with SD card removed?
the other faults sound like you need to perform a hard-reset.
i tend todo this twice, immediately after each other.

Mass Storage problems, mounting/umounting

Most all my searches returned something about rooting, how to mount via console, etc, so I started a new thread. If someone knows of one off hand, please LINK to the thread in your post. I'll ask a mod to lock or delete this one IF and WHEN a good answer is found... thanks
I'm using froyo, and up until yesterday mounting the sdcard via my mac's usb connection was painless. Gallery works fine while not connected, and copying files between the mac and the nexus is flawless also.
the problem comes when it's time to use the sdcard again on the mac. 'disable mass storage' dialogue just hangs, and after 30 seconds or so i just pull the battery. i've tried:
umounting fomr the mac first, then quitting usb mass storage on the nexus
and
quitting mass storage on the nexus THEN umounting on the mac
doesn't seem to matter, it just makes the nexus hang, and a battery pull is required to make it usable again.
any tips ?
also, if this is a common problem, or a bug, please let me know and i'll ask for a thread close/lock/whatever.
use a new kernel, from either wildmonks, intersectraven, or pershoot (in the persianown thread)
I just looked at the three kernels mentioned above and they are all UV/OC kernels. (Maybe I missed something) Is there one that is on .34 that not but has the USB mount/unmount problem fixed?
I've had this exact same problem before, unmounting would always freeze. But I also would experience a hang when copying over a very large file from my computer to the phone via USB. Turns out in my situation the SD card had gone bad (it produced some other weird behaviors when not used with the phone), and using a different card immediately solved my problems.
Not sure if this is the same in your case, but it wouldn't hurt to try a different card and see if you experience the same issue.

Hit up wildmonks, and see if he can make you one. Even with OC, it won't OC unless you set it too. Otherwise it's at 998mhz.

I can't seem to work this Android/Galaxy world out ?

Perhaps its just me getting old, I dunno...
But I was so used to the windows mobile world, that I just can't seem to get used to this Android and Galaxy S device, here is why, maybe I am doing it all wrong.
1) I can't seem to get my emails to come through instantly, even when I run refresh, even though they have come through on my Laptops outlook it sometimes take over an hour or so later to appear on my device, on my old WM phone I would simply click send and receive and the mail would appear.
2) When I plug in the USB, I get all these options, so I have been trying mass storage, sometimes my USB connects sometimes it takes forever, even though its says usb connected, I then have to pull down the menu thing and hit USB connected and then Mount, then it say s turn off USB and I then get some explorer windows pop up on my laptop...for the life of me this confuses me, I used to simply plug in the USB and it would be connected.
3) Even though I have had these applications running fine, I seem to be getting this big pop up SORRY, The application has stopped unexpectedly, Force close, please try again, what the hell have I done.
4) Now I used to test out and update custom roms on my old Touch HD and all you had to do was run a file on your PC and it would basically flash the device with a new ROM...do a backup restore and your away, for the life of me I haven't got a clue what all these custom things are, you have firmwares, lags, Kernals, samsets, froyos, FJ, FP's...god its confusing.
Perhaps I am just not ready for Android yet, I used to love customising my old Windows mobile device, but I simply can't seem to do it with this one...HELP
Coming from an Touch HD too
Hi, we are in a similar situation. I switched to Galaxy S from a Touch HD last week.
Are you using Exchange e-mail? I receive e-mail fine from a POP account and hotmail. The integrated e-mail app is slow, but there are other clients on the market.
There are 4 USB modes. You first need to install the drivers that come with the Kies software. I've configured the phone so it asks me what mode to use each time. I've tried Kies mode, mass storage mode and Internet Share mode successfully.
I do not see force close pop-ups on mine. It depends on what apps you run, of course. Most apps on the market should run fine on Android 2.1. Also, I'm running ROM JM5 now (erased the one from my carrier loaded with logos and demo apps).
The issue of the lag, I don't know where they see it, mine is ****ing fast. At least for someone coming from Windows Mobile XDD. The GPS works better with this last ROM too, 30 seconds to first fix, 10 metes accurancy while on a bus, 5 meters walking.
Flashing is the same as in the Touch HD world. The flasher program is called Odin now. You need a PIT file, and the firmware you want to load. The firmware has 3 parts. PDA, Phone and CSC.
Do it this way:
- Open Odin, select "repartition", select the PDA, Phone and SCS files
- Power off the phone. Remove SIM and microSD card.
- Press vol down + Home + Power on. This will enter download mode
- Connect the phone to the computer now. It will install new drivers
- Press start on Odin. Flashing takes 5 minutes
There are leaked and cooked ROMS. The lastest Android 2.1 ROM is I9000XWJM5. By default it will boot in russian, go to settings, language and change it
There are some Android 2.2 ROMs now, but they are not worth the trouble, too unfinished... we are waiting for an official 2.2 ROM. (and then will erase everything on the phone and start over with a clean, good, official Froyo ROM).
Thanks for your advise, what made you move from a HD to the Galaxy then ?
Do you prefer Android ?
I have been searching for the JM5 firmware and I am downloading it now, but cant find this pit file, have managed to find Odin.
What is Samset ?
I am on JF1 at the moment is it worth moving to JM5 ?

SAMSUNG FIRMWARES
Yes JM5 sort of fixes GPS and it's overall faster etc.
Odin, PIT file and ROMs can be found on the site linked on previous post.
I have been testing Android on the Touch HD for 3 months. Of course it's a lot slower and the battery is gone pretty fast. This is a proper Android phone, more CPU, more RAM, better drivers... Moves videos and 3D games very well.
I do not like Apple restrictive policies and censorship, so iphone is ruled out. Motorola Droids, HTC EVO and other recent models are not on sale on this country, so I settled for this heavily carrier-subsidized (80% savings) phone.
I like the bright, capacitive, multitouch screen the most. It's a nice change from the one on the Touch HD. The swipe keyboard works fine too. And the Hummingbird CPU moves pictures, videos and games like a Playstation. The camera has good color and detail, but more noise that the one on the Touch HD. The EXIF data says ISO 50, but they look like ISO800 on my digital camera. HD video recording is fine.

Notes:
A. some issues are windows phone 7 related that we should wait for microsoft to fix them see the list here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836373
B. I will request the next rom update to be an hd7 reg edited as default , so that we will only need to use the activation code without cracking the phones security with (chevron wp7.exe ) as with the next microsoft ypdate we will not be able to use it any more.
C. All problems are being repeated now , i think the list above includes it all ,one more day and i will be reporting all these issues on the chinees forum , or to cotulla ,
A very big problem don't let your phone empty its charge as it can't be charged while it is off and it will die unless you find a way to charge it externally
I hope that cotulla this repaired
Speciall the camera
wifi problem, phone don't open the site but is connect to the router
WiFi problem - I can't see all WPA secured WiFi networks, I can find (and connect) my WiFi at home, but at work, HD2 doesn't see WiFi there...
Yesterday I answered the phone and the opposite side can't hear me (radio 2.15.., I don't know, just the last version)
Sometimes the phone is little bit laggy, I think, that the problem is in the SD card, when I used the phone w/o card (before hard-reset ofc), everything was faster
1. Speaker is very loud
2. Hope Market will be soon available for all.
I will be updating the list issue periodically and I might register to dft forum to report it all if he is not going to xda anymore

It's a MagLDR issue

Known issue with Magldr.
Warning!
Installed win phone 7 on my HD2, and it formated my 16 gb memory card in a secured partition, all data was erased, and i could not format it using any windows tools, so the only solution for me was to "Hard" Format it using a free software called SDFormatter, it formated and brought back to life my microSD Card.
So people, back up your data before flashing.
So far one issue: it takes quite a lot of time to turn off the phone
Regarding the camera, using flash gives green tint. No other problems from the reported ones.

I had the same problem. I've noticed that the wlan channel from my wlan router was 13. I switched the channel to 11 and then WP7 find my wlan...
So, WP7 doesn't support wlan channels higher then 11...
wifi mac address will change if you reboot the phone.
The type isn't clear when you scroll down or up in the system menu, it takes a little bit time when the type is clear again.
The next problem for me is that I don't know how to set up wireless synchronization, I think I've done everything according to Microsoft pages, but it doesn't work for me.
And then I have the same problems like you, loud speakers, camera...
Well, after reading most of the posts here I guess I was lucky, WiFi and Mobile data connection worked for me, the phone was fast (faster than Android).
The whole WP7 seems to be 'airy' and not so heavy as Android, I liked the look of emails, large and clear fonts, easy to read and navigate. But on the whole, the system seems to be too closed off, not much customization is available.
I did manage to unlock it and install some 3rd party apps but soon the phone would give me a message that 'Microsoft has revoked' the particular program. Also the phone keeps locking itself over and over. I got tired of unlocking it every time I wanted to install a new app. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not. Had to either reset the phone or PC many times in order for things to work.
Does anybody know a solution to this?
I could have asked MS to give me the 'key' so that live services could be used but was not sure I want to keep this OS on my phone. It may be similar to Vista issue, a nice looking OS but buggy. Somehow I have a feeling that a new and (much) improved WP7 is around the corner.
Couple of tips:
If you want to sync your contacts, calendar, etc., the easiest way is to go through Google. If you used an Android ROM before this should not be a problem. Back up all your contacts in Android by using your Google account, once you are in WP7 go to Settings - People - Gmail and sign in. It will automatically sync your contacts to the phone - painlessly. You can also choose not to have your Facebook contacts mixed with the phone's ones. Up to you.
If you want to revert back to WinMO 6.5 or Android:
- take out your SD card first
- turn off your phone and then hold the Vol Down key as you press and hold the Power button (get into Bootloader screen)
- flash the official ROM (3.14 RUU is recommended)
- use your photo camera to format your SD card (if you have a card holder, stick in, and then format)
- if you wish you can format your SD card again once you put it back into your phone and plug it into your PC
It worked for me. I am using my SD card again to run Android (flawlessly)

After unlock the phone, you have to use 2 softs :HTC Connection Setup and Tom WP7 Jailbreak in order to prevent from MS remote lock. Have you used it before?
some issue
My Leo restarts after about an one-two hours .
When I click the red phone, then again, Leo wake up after one minute , restart or doesn't wake up .
The second issue is when Leo is restarting , all information disappear - just like in hard reset .
It's not very stable and vast ;(

[Q] USB file copy errors after rooting

New to the N7 - only had it for a few days and in the early days it was fine copying stuff to/from PC.
Now, after rooting, the xfer speed is much reduced (on multiple PCs) and quite often the copy process with timeout part way through.
Before rooting I quite happily copied 8GB onto the N7 but now I'm having trouble copying 20MB - sometimes it will copy, sometimes it won't. Just hangs. Need to remove USB cable and re-insert and copy in small chunks waiting for it to happen again.
Never seen this on my (rooted) One-X or Desire in the past.
I would ask if this was an artefact of MTP storage but it was fine before rooting. Rooting method was Wug's without installing a custom recovery.
Anything I can change or do to get this working reliably again?

Pre-rooting I could xfer 8GB with no problem. Filename currently being copied shows in the Windows Explorer diaglog box as it rattles through them.
Copying the same set of files and you can see it hang on a single filename for what seems like ages and then get a Windows 'device has timed-out error, skip or retry'. Both options fail.
It's not a case of leaving it 10-15 mins because it *fails*
I'm rooted with the stock rom at 4.2.1 and my Usb transfers are every bit as speedy as before rooting. Big files, little files, lots of files, doesn't matter. I get very fast transfers. I did do an fdr after the latest update.
