Network and App statistics - Streak 5 General

Hey all, I've been trying to get an app that tracks what app uses how much data in the background. So far no luck, none of the apps can get the data from my streak. I'm on a O2 locked streak running DJSteves 1.9.0. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

i hd also tried lots apps ........but none support this feature....
if u concern abt ur data usage restriction .....try software juice defender which can used to restrict data access when phone is ideal...

I use 3g watchdog pro from the market to monitor usage although it can't monitor specific apps on the streak.
I use apndroid, also from the market to turn data off and on, it has a widget for use in your launcher.

Thanks for the replies, its not that I'm concerned with with my data usage, I would just like to know what apps use how much data and when. I'll have to email more app devs and see if I can get someone to sort this. There are apps that do this, just not with the streak so far.

No access to some apps in app market

Has anyone else found that some of the apps were/are not accessible from the market.
Pre 2.1 it was pandora, after 2.1 its myplayer amongst others.
I'm guessing dell haas blocked these some how?
Any one got any info on it?

Also noticed a paid app called national rail is missing from my download list and the market.

Found it out.....
Apparently the new rom needs to be registered with google for it to have full access. Well at least that what the htc replied in a forum reply in the link below. Sounds like a way that the providers can limit or access to bandwidth hungry apps

Bandwidth Monitoring App like SPB Wireless

Loved SPB Wireless monitor in winmo , In android found 3g watchdog which works ok and have seen netcounter app also. But none of these can give the detailed stats which SPB Wireless monitor used to give.
For example, I need to know which is the most bandwidth intensive app, how much bandwidth was used due to my video viewing and other such purposes.
Anybody have seen such an app on android or anything closer to it..
You can use trafficstats app in the market.

How do I check data usage?

This may sound like a stupid question, but when I first got the G2 I was about to check my data usage, but now I forgot how. I've gone to my.t-mobile.com and I've check the My Account app. My memory has lapsed!
Checkin' the ole data stream...
Once upon a time it was #DATA#, but I don't think that is the case anymore...
You can see you're data usage on T-Mobile.com. Log into your account, click on Account Use, click on the phone line in question, then scroll down and you will see the Data section.
There are a few apps on the market that monitor usage. But I imagine they also drain the battery.

Those apps only moniter when there on. So if u dont run the app all the time it wont give you the right data. But yea log into t mobile and ur see it there

Now for another question, why is my.t-mobile.com so SLOW?
3G Watchdog is a really nice app to handle data consumption and is very lightweight on both the system and the battery. Look it up on the marketplace.

BAH!! That's just minor surfing and listening to Pandora. No tethering.

App killers and battery life

I used to have advanced app killer and used to manually kill apps like crazy, but then I read that they actually hurt daily battery life. Do you guys still use them? It sucks to manually go into settings to stop apps. Discuss.

They are counterproductive with the new versions of Android.
Use watch dog to monitor for "misbehaving apps"

I have used Watchdog since I got my phone. It has twice alerted me that the browser was using extra cpus. It gives an option to kill the app right there so I did and everything was cool. Nice app.
1+ watchdog task killers were needed back in the day with 2.0 and below but android handles it pretty well nowadays
I only use it after boot up, but after that I only use it if I start getting lag.
Agreed. Avanced task killer and similar apps are rubish now days. Watchdog is Great because it alerts you about apps using top many resources.
New users and sales people tend to assume android uses ram like a computer does; the more free ram the beter. Android keeps certain apps available in ram so that its faster to open it you when needed. If the system requires more ram to function it will remove unused apps from memory.

Thanks for the watchdog recommendation. I checked out the app in the market place and it looks pretty cool. So you guys use no app killers at all?

i've with and without task killer, i always get longer battery life with, and have never had any issue's with using it.
No app killers period for me.

[Q] Social Networking

How often does the Social Networking app update? I can't find any options to change refresh time. Also there's no manual refresh option...

I actually uninstalled this app using titanium backup

That didn't answer my question. I did some self testing and came up with about 2 minutes as the time refresh rate. The app is actually quite useful as you can get all your messages in the Universal Inbox.

It is useful if u pay for unlimited 3G connection, not my case. So i prefer to download each social network app I use and manually refresh what I want.

Serious? You might not like it, but there are actually people who like Blur. You like it or not, just accept and respect that please.
About the refreshing: I've been looking for it too, but that option isn't anywhere to be found. I've also found the interval for syncing social networking isn't 2 minutes for me... Longer I guess.
Manual syncing is possible, but you have to disable syncing completely for a few seconds and re-enable it. Syncing will start after this.
Not sure if it's of use, but there is the option to only update the Social Networking apps over wifi which can be found in the Data Manager section of Settings.
Cheers,
Steve

I;m not worried about sync or data cos my plan has about 250MB a month...I am planning to upgrade to 1GB a month...
just annoyed about refresh issue that's all.
250MB... that's quite small ammount. With my plan I have 2GB a month, and I'm using about 700MB out of this
Yeah. I dont download music or videos on my phone. I use my PC for that.
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA Premium App
the reason yours is updating so often is perhaps cuz u have quite a number of friends on ur social networks. what u can do is u can filter which updates you'd like to see from which friends. that could significantly reduce how often your blur updates itself.
another option would be to do what steve suggested....theres an option in settings where it syncs ur social networking over wifi only. that should work
the best option however is to get urself an unlimited data package. 500MB-1GB data allowance would be sufficient, but if ur heavy on skype and other data intensive apps or sights a 2GB package would be recommended.
