Anybody notice when saving numbers to existing contacts.... - EVO 4G General

that it does not ask you if you want to over ride the existing number with the new one you are putting in? if someone text/called me and i wanted to save the number from there, i would just long press and the menu would ask me if i wanted to save to existing person, if i said yes and the field that i was trying to save to was already populated it would ask me if i wanted to overide. now it just makes another entry for the type of number im putting in (ex mobile, work etc etc).
anyway to change this back? its kinda of frustrating when i do it and i go back to the person and i dont know what was the old number or what was the new one.

Yeah change the new numbers setting to primary and delete the old number if you don't need it anymore
Edit, thanks for responding back :/

how do i do that? cant it just go back to the way it was when saving a number under a populated field asked you if you wanted to overwrite?

Clipboard driving me nuts

I have recently bought an XDAII and am very happy overall. One thing driving me crazy is when I have a missed call and view the number in the call log there is no way of adding the number to an existing contact.
You can add to a new contact but not new contact - even just being able to copy the number to the clipboard would be good...
At the moment I have to write the number down from the log and then go into contacts and enter the number manually. MANUALLY! this isnt supposed to be what technology is about! :?
Can anyone help.. please?!
If the number is not in your contacts, adding as a new contact is easy. If the number is say, a new / alternate phone number for an already exisiting contact, the only was is to create a new contact then copy the number, go to your existing contact and paste it. Then go back and delete the new. temporary contact. It is a bit of a pain but I can't think of any other way at the moment !
Ravi
Thanks for the reply. That is the way I am doing it at the moment but seems very long-winded! Have been looking for perhaps a third party app which makes clipboard functions available from apps which dont have it as standard (such as call log).. no luck so far.

Adding a new Number to an existing contact..

Hello!
suppouse I have Someone's Cell phone in my contact list and that person calls me from his house's phone. Having the new number on screen, Is there any way for me to add that new number to that persons contacts space ?? Everytime I hit add to contact the tytn automatically opens a new contact entry and does not give me the option to add it to an existing one.
I know it can be done manualy, I'm just wondering if there's a better way...
Thanks.
um edit and do it manually ?
you could try to type in the exact same name of your contact, not sure if it would make a new one or ask to add to old one you can try that.

Contacts numbers problem.....

Hey guys... not sure if i'm dumb, but i cant seem to figure out how to add additional numbers to the saved numbers in contacts without saving them.
for example, i have a contact named "keith" with the saved tel number 1234567. i do not want to change this. But if i were roaming and needed to add some numbers how do i do it? let's say i needed to press *108*611234567#... how do i add the additional numbers without saving it.
Thanks in advance!
Not sure I understand you.
You want to be able to add new numbers to existing contacts WITHOUT SAVING THEM?
Is this correct?
If you dial a number and you want to save this to an existing contact you can do this.
Its very simple. Simply select the number you want on your phone dial screen > Push Menu > Save to Contacts > Yes, To existing Contact > then select contact
thanks for the reply spartan...
if i can make it clearer....
i already have a saved number... "1234567" but if i am roaming overseas i might have to add a code to be able to call out. i do not want to permanently add these to the saved numbers. With sony ericsson, i just had to call the contact, cancel the call and add additional numbers on the dialing screen.
Unfortunately I am not aware of any way of doing this.
What may help is if you ring somebody. Obviously there number will appear below there name on dial screen. Now that you can see it you can type in their number again with code infront.
Hopefully I am mistaken and there is another way of doing this. Maybe somebody else can enlighten us. I will try searching and see if I can find anything. If I do I'll report back!!
yeah tat's what i am currently doing, but my memory's not too good so i have to write it down... thanks for your help.... i've tried searching about this too but didnt find anything... if i manage to i will also post it...

how to save contacts with first name first on the fly

what i mean is if i get a call from a number that is not in my phone book and i decide to save that number after the call, when i save it it will usually save it as last name then first name. is there a way to change that. i know that if i go through contacts and add a new contact it will let me choose how to file that contact but is there a way to do that with "on the fly" contact saving?
you can change the name order before you save it for the first time. there is no need to save the contact then return to the contcat and change the name order.
The other option which i have used is a cab file which switches all the names with last name first around. Cannot remember what it was called, i need to find it again myself. will have a look for you!
regards
EDIT: just added the cab file below, hope this is useful in any way.
no i mean when i save a number directly from the call log or from the phone application, it will only give me three fields: first name, last name, number and the type of number (i.e mobile, home, etc.) it doesn't give me the option to change the file options. i know that this is possible through the contacts menu.
when you say file do you mean the order in which the names are shown in the contacts list?

Is anyone familiar with a phone number in the format xxx?xxx?xxxx

They are coming up when I start to text someone and their name and number start to list in a "predictive" area, not sure of its real name
In this number I gave you, obviously the x's are the numbers and the ?'s DO show up between the numbers
I was thinking it was the SIM card number, but it just happened the last day or so, and I have been confused with some contact prolems, AND I am a total 'newb.'
My second question,..might this have something to do with this.
This is specifically related to the Samsung Vibrant. So if you are unfamiliar, please, feel free to ignore and move on
But with the phone, with the Samsung widget, Buddy ?, It is a square or ferris wheel type widget, I can select a contact put on it I can message or call them. BUT, Origininally I thought it was the FIRST number put on the widget if the person had more than a mobile number. But when I moved a couple of contacts mobile numbers first and I messaged them, and I got their HOME number, I knew that something waa up.
Might you know what that is?
AND might it hahve something to do with the number xxx?xxx?xxxxx or the SIM card numbers
Thanks a whole lot.
I am not as technical as a lot of you. It is greatly appreciated.
Quite honestly, I have no idea what you just said.
ETA: I think I figure out what your second question is. When you open a contact, press Menu > Mark As Default and select the number you want to be the default.
Never had/heard if this issue...personally if go to Tmobile and ask them what's up, maybe its your phone specific, maybe you somehow have another country's format, doesn't sound malicious or any thing though so I wouldn't worry too much.
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy
i think he's saying his contacts are listed as 123?456?7890
Yeah, that's pretty much it. I think it may have something to do with SIM card format. It happened right after I sent my numbers to the SIM card yesterday
Just as it says a format for a phone number, where ?'s are placed in between
Thanks
