Clipboard driving me nuts - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I have recently bought an XDAII and am very happy overall. One thing driving me crazy is when I have a missed call and view the number in the call log there is no way of adding the number to an existing contact.
You can add to a new contact but not new contact - even just being able to copy the number to the clipboard would be good...
At the moment I have to write the number down from the log and then go into contacts and enter the number manually. MANUALLY! this isnt supposed to be what technology is about! :?
Can anyone help.. please?!

If the number is not in your contacts, adding as a new contact is easy. If the number is say, a new / alternate phone number for an already exisiting contact, the only was is to create a new contact then copy the number, go to your existing contact and paste it. Then go back and delete the new. temporary contact. It is a bit of a pain but I can't think of any other way at the moment !
Ravi

Thanks for the reply. That is the way I am doing it at the moment but seems very long-winded! Have been looking for perhaps a third party app which makes clipboard functions available from apps which dont have it as standard (such as call log).. no luck so far.

How to add a standard part to a group of phone numbers?

Hi!
I'm thinking about using my M1000 with my company's Sim.
Problem is that to dial personal numbers I would need to add "46" before the number I am dialing (this is for cost control... the company pays for phone call of collegues and clients, I pay for my personal ones).
Now, I am afraid that due to this restriction I would not be able to tap a personal contact number and have it dialed and also that I would need to delete the whole number from the phone display in order to add the 46 at the beginning.
Is there any application that would allow me to easily add the 46 in front of personal numbers before they get dialed?
THANKS!!!
Chris
Are you saying that you can't simply add the "46" to your personal phone numbers in your Contacts list? I just added "46" in front of a number in my contacts list and dialed it. It did not work on my network, but it did dial it.
I could but...
I could add the 46 in front but...
0) do it for all of my contacts its a long work...
1) It would be difficoult to revert should I change sim
2) I would get all my contact screwed if I try for example to dial from my PC or share them with someone
3) I don't need the "46" for SMS... so if I put it for SMS they would not go...
4) Incoming calls would not be recognized becouse the caller Id could not match the caller with the 46...
So it would be best if I could just add the "46" with a botton to the end of a number I would like to dial, just before I dial it...
Thanks anyway!
Chris

Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and paste

Thought I'd throw this one in incase I'd missed something.
There appears to be some basic failings in the ability to cut and paste phone numbers between various applications on the WM phone.
Take the example that I receive a SMS text message from someone not in my contacts database.
I know who the person is and I want to create a new contact entry using the received phone number.
There appears to be no way of cutting or copying the phone number from the messaging section and pasteing it into a new Contact.
Or it may be that I already have an entry for the person I just don't have their mobile number number in the contact record (or what ever new number is received).
Have I missed a trick here - or indeed is this a limitation that exists. If there is a work around I'd love to know. i just have such an appauling memory for numbers that I couldn't even remember between flicking between applications - let alone the scope for error.
Thanks
Re: Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and p
Open the message (instead of just reading it from the list or notification window). You'll note that the From: field is already selected.
Press the Menu softkey, then Save to Contacts.
Simple as that
OK so that allows you to create a new contact. Once you have them in contacts you can do a copy of the number and paste it into an original record. Then delete the new contact just created. Ideally I'd like to miss out the intermediate step of creating another new contact - for those where I know I already have a contact entry, but just not with that particular number.
I agree with you.
There should be an extra choice after save to contact.
Like new contact/ add to contact.
The same with email. If i want to add an emailadres it makes a new contact.
An other problem i find is that copy/ paste is not always available when i select a text.
When I rename a file in file explorer I can't select the word and copy/paste by "tap and hold".
Now i use GSPocket Magic to copy/ paste
You would have thought that on the, what is it, 3rd iteration of WM they could have sorted this out.
It is behaviour like this that can make all the diference between something that is really user friendly and something which is torturous.
Hopefully there are some influential people who read this that can feed it back to the powers that be.
You can try PQz fot copy/Paste : http://www.nicque.com/PQz/
This there too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343
open up the message, where is says the from tap and drag on the screen to highlight the number then tap and hold on the highlighted but then when the menu opens click copy

adding number to existing contact?

Is there a way from the call list, to add the number to an existing contact?
It is pretty annoying to only be able to add it to a new contact. I end up with multiple entries for the same person unless I cut and paste the number to the old contact.
cheers
JK
yeah, I would like to have this option too
THis would also be a useful option for me.
For me too. I am looking for any soft which can do this function?

Adding a new Number to an existing contact..

Hello!
suppouse I have Someone's Cell phone in my contact list and that person calls me from his house's phone. Having the new number on screen, Is there any way for me to add that new number to that persons contacts space ?? Everytime I hit add to contact the tytn automatically opens a new contact entry and does not give me the option to add it to an existing one.
I know it can be done manualy, I'm just wondering if there's a better way...
Thanks.
um edit and do it manually ?
you could try to type in the exact same name of your contact, not sure if it would make a new one or ask to add to old one you can try that.

One more thing about this junk...

Did you notice that it's not possible to add a missed call/received call/outgoing call number to an existing contact in the address book using the dialer app?
You can't even copy and then paste the number manually into the address book. So, you have to memorize the number, or write in in a paper, and then editing the contact.
What a piece of crap.

Sorry but what are you talking about?
Do you have the correct firmware actually?
I mean you can perfectly add any number to contacts,
I do it all the time. The dialer is perfect BTW.
And actually all the new numbers from dialer can be simply written in Notes and copied from that.
I honestly don't know what is the problem with your device
but it's certainly not true.

BTW, You can't copy/paste numbers from the dialer app into any other application.
And I've have MR2 firmware.
And in the Xperia X1, you can add a new number from the dialer to an existing contact (a contact that's ALREADY on the address book, not a new one).

Jolo I'm sorry but something is wrong with you or your phone.
I can add any new number from Dialer to Contacts.
I don't see a reason of adding existing contact....
And you can YES copy the number from the dialer to notes.

You receive a call from an unknown number.
You answer it, and you notice that it's Mr. John Smith, one of your clients. You already have the Mr. Smith contact on your address book. But, this number is new because he has a new cellphone or a new cell line.
So, you might want to add this new number to the ALREADY existing Mr. Smith contact.
BUT YOU CAN'T.
It's that difficult to understand?
In other phones, even my old Z750, or the X1, or of course the iPhone, you can do it.
If you can do this, can you please tell me how to do it?
And not, i've tried again and YOU CAN'T COPY A NUMBER FROM THE DIALER.
Jolo.
Yes this is a crappy bug. My phone behaves the same as Jolo complained.
However there is a workaround.
Can you imagine a bug that also has a bug? Well this one has. In Phone app, go to menu>options>advanced and tick add new phone number to Contacts at the end of the call. When this box is checked, at the end of the call you will be prompted to add the number and yes it allows you to select an existing contact to add the number to.

Every WM device has that too.
should you try this?
from dialpas screen:
menu/tool/options/advance = tick to ADD NEW PHNOME NUMBER TO CTC AT THE END OF CALL.
after your phone call - x2 ask do you wanto to add, it will come up default wm6.5 contact and you can easilyyyyyy add it ...
happy trying

It works here fine.
Ok so the fact is you can copy numbers from Dialer to Notes
but only in the space you actually write number, not from the history.
And I usually add numbers from this prompt so I didn't see that adding from the history makes a new contact.
It's interesting if it's a general WM 6.5.3 thing though.
