I am positive that there are others out there that occasionally allow kids to play with their phone. Also, I am positive that I am not the only dad who has kids that like to touch the buttons.
I have toddler lock which is OK, but I would like to show my youngest 19mos a cartoon, but I want to try and disable the buttons or screen, so she doesn't turn it off or mess it up?
Any thoughts, other than shock therapy every time she presses the home key? Maybe an app (like toddler lock) that has a pattern to turn the buttons back on? Maybe like toddler lock except have whatever is running on the droid be the background?
Thank you in advance!
Are you talking about hard or soft keys?
I know that for touchscreens,(not sure which OS), there's an app. My buddy has this app that displays colors for his daughter to play with and when she touches it, it shows stars and such. If I can dig anything up, i'll reply back. I'll shoot him a text, too.
Do you want to disable the touchscreen or the four buttons on the bottom?
Just disable kids.
Why not actually play with your kids instead of stuffing some electronic device in their face to give you more 'me' time?

Ugh, do you have kids? The phone is a great tool for times when you have a little one at a restaurant and they're not happy about sitting there. I honestly don't know why people even feel the need to post crap like this.
And the app that locks the phone down is called Toddler Lock.
I'm interesting in an app that will lock the touchscreen down for movies. My little ones love watching them at restaurants or the grocery store, but they accidentally touch the screen and it pauses the movie or stops it all together.

Wow that was helpful. No advice but you did manage to slam his/her parenting ability with nothing to base it on.
To the OP - I don't know of any apps to lock the buttons, but I found that many of the "finger painting" apps go to full screen so the kids can draw with it without getting lost.

Yeah, I do, and that's why I said you should actually play with them in lieu of handing them the phone.

Didn't 'slam' anyone's parenting abilities. I offered a suggestion.
You don't give a kid a gun and then post a message saying 'any device that will keep the gun from going off while the kids play with it?'.

Seriously? You're equating a child watching a cartoon on a phone to giving a gun to a child??
Why don't you do your trolling over at reddit. You'll get more mileage there.

Two things kids shouldn't be messing with, your phone or your gun, not a stretch.

i doubt it
Not a chance.
So do most people around here actually refrain from putting their phone in their pocket??
"people sometimes forget that they don't go in pockets"
Front pocket sure, never the back though.
Well the dude must have had some boney bones on his ass. Anyway, what was all that compression test/bend test/tumble test video that they released about? Made up?

Not made up, just more evidence that such failures are a result of the user and not the phone itself.
For the LED's to break and leak like that, there had to have been some major neglect. It isn't a car key scratching it, then it spreading... it is the screen being compressed enough to impact the LED. That takes some talent!
And this is true of any phone, BTW... google's response is a little "odd" but any touch screen phone has a "no pocket" warning. Take a look at the HD, HD2, Touch Pro 2, et al... even the amazing iPhone, they all have this happen, they all have warnings about not putting them in your pocket, especially with other items or the screen facing out, and back pocket is the absolute worst of all!
I don't get people... I broke my phone, HTC should have to replace it because I am a moron!
I couldn't believe how tiny the box was, then when I opened it I couldn't believe how absolutely huge the EVO is! It is massive, and the screen is amazing! No lag what so ever. Everything is lightning fast. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

jealous!! congratulations man!
no it hasnt trust me..
I have asked the other people this question but apparently it was too much to ask for..
I just want to know one thing..How is the volume on the phone during a damn phone call in say like a car with the windows down?
For me HTC has always kinda been a bit low on actual in call phone volume and many times i struggle to hear with the windows down talking on the phone.
I'm getting the phone either way but it would be nice to know.
How are the WiMax speeds around Atlanta and the latency on 4G? Thanks!

Be careful not to get a ticket for being on the phone. In NJ that's a $100 ticket.

Quick question, how do you hang up the phone after each conversation if the screen is off? I don't think I see any hard call or end button like the rest of the HTC phones.

i've been meaning to mention to ya..even if the volume is low, once the phone is rooted there's an app available that allows you to up the phones volume levels (in call, speaker, bluetooth, and even headphone jack). So there's no real worry in that regard (ps if you already have a rooted phone, check out Louder Volume Hack...i love it)

Just called my old phone from the Evo and the proximity sensor works just like the iphone. The screen turns off when it's next to your face and lights up when you pull it away.

Hey congrats on getting the phone and thanks for taking your time to answer silly noob questions
Qik video camera is so neat. I had no idea you could stream right to the web. You can also easily toggle between the front and rear cameras.
I've heard that Sprint TV doesn't work with wifi. Is there anything else, Qik for instance, that doesn't or won't utilize wifi?
And please tell me what the call quality is like when riding a roller coaster. Thanks!

How fast does it get a GPS lock? The Incredible gets a lock in about 5-10 seconds max.

And I was scratching my head wondering "why?" in regards to the person who wanted the wii style wrist lanyard for the EVO...now I get it!!!
This is weird but pretty sure there's an explanation. The screen on the x10 is touch sensitive so no pressure is needed to move or type things right. It's all in the electrons running through your veins.
I was talking to my gf on speaker phone when I happened to breath on the screen of my phone.
I noticed that my beautiful home widget suddenly moved
and I felt the phone vibrate.
I started to mess around trying to change screens just by breathing on the screen...and..
Bingo I managed to swipe the desktop screen without touching the screen or any buttons.
** I didn't blow on the screen I breathe air, like when you fog up a window, and it has to be very warm LOL.
Someone confirm this please, its kinda cool when you consider that your not really doing nething physical to the device, just air. Why does this happen?

Welcome to the exciting world of Capacitive Touchscreens!
can't seem to do it is it cos I've got a screen protector on?? BTW I have come from the HTC Reboot (aka desire) forum section - so I'm knew to this part of town
You all have way to much time on your hands! I love it! My new pick up like.. hey baby breath on my handy please. No really..
Yeah, it really sucks when I'm crank-calling someone...
I try to breathe heavily into the phone, but it bloody causes me to hang up...
Give me resistive touch screen for crank-calling any day...!
i think i need more oxygen,,, it makes me exhausted!!!!!!!!!
Breath in ,,,, Breath out
mmmmmmmm, i can imagine
imagine the games you can create with this. Got it working on my phone,
The question is.. what were you doing breathing so heavily on the phone to your Mrs ;-)

What I hate about the X10 touch screen is using it or trying to when its raining ...try that ... calls get made when you dont need them widgets get placed when you wasnt even trying letters get typed with raindrops its a pita
I was reading another thread and noticed another user flicks the kickstand in and out when they're bored I do the same thing how about you guys? Just trying to make small talk before I ask you all out. My name is Yevo.(fututlrama reference btw not actually looking for a date)

If I'm not doing anything, I'll mess around with the kickstand. I don't stay still very well you see...
Haha I do, everyone looks because it makes that clicking sound when it goes out then in.
I do the same... When Im on the phone at work I flick it... Or I hold the phone by it and spin it... I Probably shouldn't do that but oh well...
I'll admit, I fidget and mess with the kickstand whenever I'm in a boring meeting or whatever. Wore out the kickstand a bit on my first EVO doing that...
Yea, I flick it open and close all the time
I actually use it to prop my phone up. lol I use my Slingbox A LOT. I'll miss the kickstand, but it won't stop me from upgrading.
I know it is early in the thread, but not one penis joke?
I mess with mine all the time, I foubg that all it takes it a little pressure on the hinge side and it pops right open.
Haha yeah I do the same. I'll be standing somewhere reading on it while flicking the kickstand. It's become a habit of mine
yes i play with mine occasionally.
lol i do too when i am bored...
Only when my wife's out of town.

yeah it doesnt take much to get my kickstand standing haha i dropped it when i was playing with it once and it fell on the kickstand, now it closes easier, opens quick, but stays locked in whatever position i leave it in
Haha, yeah, I flick it in and out all the time!
I'm actually surprized at how well it's held-up. When I first saw it, I was like well....that's going to break in a month!

Agreed! It doesn't look nearly as beautiful, however, since these S-Pens are only $20 or so, the converted/cut one can be used for more practical use while you can still keep a normal S-Pen to have as well.

How about you just pay attention, or if your letting a kid play your $800 phone which is stupid, take the s pen out and put it somewhere else. When anyone mentions kids it sounds like parents that don't know how to parent

We agree that this should be common sense, however, we know that some things are inevitable. Phone laying on the table, kid comes up and plays with it for 2 seconds is all it takes, no matter how good of a parent you are.
Being the ballsy "DGAF" person I am, i shoved my pen in backwards like 20 minutes ago after a friend mentioned people complaining it was getting stuck. My first thought was "HA. Idiots... How do you jam it in so bad it gets stuck? And why?" So, I slipped mine in and and thought well, it wont go further, maybe its breaking when they try to force it? So I gave up and tried pulling it out. got like 1.5 inches out and....stuck. Like 45 seconds later, unstuck. All I did was turn the phone screen down and it slid right out

Sorry to say, it sounds like the black lever that it would get caught on may be 'broken'. It's a spring lever so it shouldn't move based off of the phone's orientation.
interesting way to "fix" the issue. Cosmetically it doesn't look as good at the bottom, but then again, who really looks there.
